New York City is a fine place to sneak a peek at some unreleased devices, and that's just what we did this week with the LG G3 event (streamed from London to an airy presentation room in a Chelsea skyscraper) and AT&T's ASUS PadFone X announcement (held on a posh rooftop lounge near the Flatiron). At one of those events, Daniel Bader of MobileSyrup was our seat neighbor, so we thought we'd invite him on this week's podcast to discuss the more globally significant of these high-profile launches. Join us as we share our impressions of the LG G3: how it stands on its own and how well it will or won't be able to compete against other smartphones on the market. Then stick around to hear how our minds are blown, not just by the ASUS PadFone X's dual citizenship as a smartphone and a tablet, but by its insanely low price tag. Stay till the end and you'll hear our thoughts on the surprise of the week: AT&T's new Galaxy S5 Active. All that, plus a sneak peek at some forthcoming changes to the podcast and a healthy helping of outtakes, await you on episode 098 of the Pocketnow Weekly. Fifty. It's the golden anniversary number, the measuring post by which successful marriages -and podcasts- are judged. And while we plan to celebrate many more anniversaries of the Pocketnow Weekly, we thought we'd mark this occasion with a small thank-you to the community: an LG Optimus G giveaway. The dead-simple details on that giveaway are contained in this post. Before you go, though, fire up episode 050 on your favorite listening device to hear The Original Triad of Brandon, Anton, and Michael talk everything from Motorola's flashy new logo to Samsung's un-flashy new ATIV. Everything from iOS 7's new back gesture to the sad state of retail electronics stores. All that, plus more Nokia EOS/Zoom/1020 talk and some long-overdue listener mail, after the break. You've worked hard all week; slake your thirst for slacking with the soothing sounds of scrumptious tech talk. Today's installation of the Pocketnow Weekly podcast is here for your listening enjoyment. Send feedback, questions, and requests to podcast [AT] pocketnow [DOT] com. We think it's pretty fair to say that MWC 2013 was one part IFA and one part CES: a few stark disappointments peppered among some really amazing stuff. We've seen technology this week ranging from the incredible to the absurd - from the third iteration of ASUS's wild Padfone concept to the improbable debut of a Kyocera Echo lookalike. The big guys have come out to play, too, but they're a little shy this time around: neither Samsung's Galaxy Note 8.0 nor Nokia's midrange Lumias blew the roof off the joint. Even a few has-beens came out to confuse us with their wares, some of which will be discussed in today's podcast. The grand spectrum of awful to awesome we witnessed at MWC 2013 is a beautiful thing, and we want to share it with you. So put your stunna shades on and throw some olives on your pizza, because this week's special edition of the Pocketnow Weekly just rolled out of the brick oven. And, incidentally, we've got new tunes on the front and back side, so we think that's pretty rad. Send feedback, questions, and requests to podcast [AT] pocketnow [DOT] com.
