Recent brides and their fathers who paid for the wedding won’t be surprised to learn that the average cost of a wedding in the U.S. is between $30,000 and $36,000, depending on the couple's choices, incuding the wedding location and number of guests. One of the major costs of any wedding is photography. In an image-driven society where pics of the most mundane activities are posted online for public consumption, capturing the biggest day of many women’s lives in pictures is often complicated. Along with conflicting emotions about body image, and the stress of a major financial investment, unlike the informal pictures of a birthday or a vacation, wedding photos capture a rite of passage and who doesn’t want to look their best for posterity? Wedding photographer Katelyn Craven of Butterflies of Hope Photography knows how to ensure that the money is well spent. Butterflies of Hope Photography is a family-owned photography studio founded by Katelyn’s mother, Heather Banker. Working out of their Prairieville studio, Katelyn leads all wedding photography under her own brand, Butterflies of Hope by Katelyn, and frequently travels across South Louisiana— from Baton Rouge to New Orleans, Lafayette and St. Francisville—for weddings and engagements. During the pandemic, many brides were either postponing big-ticket weddings or opting for smaller backyard unions at home. As a result, couples have become more aware of the environmental impact of their special day. Invitation cards, welcome bags, and other plastic props and tchotchkes that were once trendy but too often discarded are now passe for the environmentally-friendly couple. Wedding bouquets and flowers aren’t immune to the trend either, with planners noting fewer boutonnieres and more pocket squares for the groom and groomsmen. But what of the bride and her maids? Inspired by her own disappointing experience with a wedding florist, Lauren Bercier co-founded Something Borrowed Blooms, a rental service featuring premium silk floral collections that couples can rent for about 70% less than fresh flowers. What started with a dozen weddings a month has grown to more than 2,000 weddings per month during peak season, with over 55,000 weddings fulfilled to date. Out to Lunch is recorded live over lunch at Mansurs on the Boulevard. You can find photos from this show by Ian Ledo and Miranda Albarez at itsbatonrouge.com. RU6: STEVEN REISNER ON THE DANCE OF THE OCCULT & UNCONSCIOUS IN FREUD https://renderingunconscious.substack.com/p/ru6-steven-reisner-on-the-dance-of Rendering Unconscious episode 6. This episode of Rendering Unconscious is a lecture by Dr. Steven Reisner “On the Dance of Occult and Unconscious in Freud” given at Morbid Anatomy Museum, NYC, October 2016, as part of a lecture series hosted by Dr. Vanessa Sinclair on Psychoanalysis, Art & the Occult. In this lecture, Dr. Reisner explores Freud's interest in the occult and its implications for psychoanalytic theory. Reisner argues that Freud's curiosity extended beyond sexuality to include phenomena beyond sensory perception. He discusses Freud's experiments with telepathy and thought transference, emphasizing the importance of integrating denied knowledge. Reisner also highlights Freud's cautious approach to disseminating such knowledge, balancing scientific rigor with public perception. Additionally, Reisner links Freud's theories to contemporary issues like resistance to knowledge and the impact of narcissistic or traumatized parents on their children's sensitivity to occult phenomena. This talk was first presented at a conference organized by Dr. Vanessa Sinclair and Carl Abrahamsson, exploring the intersections of Psychoanalysis, Art & the Occult, held in London, May 2016. The Fenris Wolf 9 is a book of collected papers from this conference anthologized by Sinclair and Abrahamsson. https://amzn.to/3XXcwnd Steven Reisner, PhD is a psychoanalyst and political activist in New York. Welcome to 30 Tips in 30 Days! Over the entire month of November, I will be releasing a short, bite sized episode of Fearless Presentations every morning covering things that are absolutely essential to being a better presenter. Whether you've been speaking professionally for years and years or are looking to just start your public speaking journey, applying just these 30 tips I cover here will instantly and easily make you improve as a speaker. There is nothing more normal when you're about to give a high pressure speech (and not everyone's version of a high pressure speech is the same) than butterflies in the stomach. It's your body telling you that what you're about to do is new, harrowing, or something you think you're not experienced enough for. The thing is, if you've prepared and done every bit of prep you need, your body is wrong. You are ready and the butterflies are normal and everyone, no matter how experienced, gets them. It's just about recognizing that they are normal, incorrect, and you are experienced and prepared for the speech.Show Notes: 101 Public Speaking Tips For Delivering Your Best Speech(https://www.fearlesspresentations.com/101-public-speaking-tips-for-delivering-your-best-speech/)

'N2STAL5IA' es una oda melancólica a la crisis de la mitad de los veinte. La de los cuarenta es un tópico y la de los treinta, casi una norma; pero la de los veinte no la vimos venir, quizá porque creímos que, al menos entonces, seríamos felices. La tensión entre la juventud eterna y la incertidumbre de no saber quién eres oscurece las canciones del segundo disco de Natalia Lacunza.Además, el director de cine Paul Urkijo responde a nuestro cuestionario cultural en FAQ! Humans aren't the only ones that have to adapt to a colder climate during the winter months. Jack, Lynne and Matt McFarland track the migration patterns of Canada geese. Why do they fly south for the winter. "Whiffing" is a landing maneuver used by geese. What is it used for? Matt talks about his love of the film "Predator: Badlands." Go and see it. Down jackets worn by birds in the winter is a real thing. Birds have remarkable winter adaptations. Pets and winter boots is a hilarious sight to behold. It was a disaster for The McFarlands. Road salt and how it effects birds his highlighted. Deer LOVE salt. Why? The trio discuss these creatures adoration for sodium. Matt doesn't recommend using salt on your walkway. What should you use instead? Cold water has a higher degree of oxygen than warmer water. ITS THE TRUTH!Marathon "runters" is good for a laugh.Coyotes and their winter homes become a focus. What do grasshoppers, prescribed fire, and peer pressure have in common? In this episode, we sit down with Dr. Jason Harmon, the new head of Oklahoma State University's Natural Resource Ecology and Management department, to find out. From his early days counting insects in Wisconsin to leading research on pollinators and rangelands in North Dakota, Dr. Harmon brings a wide-lens perspective to land management - one that blends ecology, culture, and community. Hosts John Weir, Dr. Laura Goodman, and Dr. Mark Turner chat with Dr. Harmon about everything from cattle grazing and monarch migration to how landowners manage for appearances rather than outcomes. They also explore how Oklahoma's ecological diversity - and its people - are shaping the future of conservation. Whether you're passionate about prescribed fire, curious about critters, or just love hearing smart folks talk about working landscapes, this one's for you. Takeaways Dr. Jason Harmon's background blends insect ecology with rangeland research. Cultural perceptions influence landowners' willingness to adopt ecologically diverse pastures. Fire remains an unmatched tool for managing range health and reducing woody encroachment. Oklahoma and North Dakota face different stages of similar land challenges. Pollinators are not just bees-grasslands can host hundreds of native insect species. Milkweed interactions with cattle are species-specific and under-researched. Oklahoma's ecological range-from alligators to bighorn sheep-mirrors the diversity of its management needs. Interdisciplinary collaboration enhances natural resource problem-solving. Prescribed burning is a proactive solution that prevents larger wildfire disasters. OSU's natural resource programs offer versatile career pathways through specialized tracks. The State of the Butterflies in the United States project demonstrated that butterfly populations across the US are dramatically declining — they fell by more than 20% between the year 2000 and 2020. There are multiple causes, but one of them is the loss of caterpillar host plants. Getting more host plants into our neighborhoods and parks is essential — but what happens if those plants are contaminated by pesticides and they are toxic to the caterpillars that need them?To talk more about this conundrum is Aaron Anderson. Aaron is no stranger to Bug Banter listeners. Aaron is a member of Xerces' pesticide reduction team, where his work focuses on reducing pesticide use in residential landscapes, including promoting alternative pest-control measures and pollinator-friendly gardening practices. More pertinently, he recently was a coauthor on a study of pesticide contamination of butterfly host plants.---Photo Credit: Kevin BurlsThank you for listening! Most people crumble the second someone hurls an insult their way. You, me, everyone. But this short episode throws a Zen-sized wrench into that reaction with one of the simplest, hardest truths in spiritual awakening: You only suffer when you accept the insult that was handed to you. Will reads “The Gift of Insults,” a powerful parable from The Monk and the Butterfly that reveals why your peace isn't actually as fragile as you think...it's just mismanaged. And then he goes off-script into a raw, honest reflection on triggers, the pain-body, energy dynamics, and why letting people “take your peace” is a decision… not an inevitability. This is one of those deceptively small episodes that lands like a tuning fork in your chest. What You'll LearnWhy insults are “gifts”, and how not accepting them changes everythingHow your pain-body hijacks your reactions (thanks, Eckhart Tolle)Why people try to steal your energy, and how offering it freely disarms themA practical approach to staying grounded when someone comes at you sidewaysHow triggers point to deeper inner work you've been avoidingWhy protecting your peace is a skill… and one you probably haven't mastered yeWill digs into:How this same lesson plays out with his daughterWhen “not accepting the gift” becomes spiritual bypassingWhy understanding the energetics behind conflict changes how you handle itHow to stop giving away your power without becoming cold, detached, or numbWhy This Matters If you're on a spiritual path, you're going to be challenged, often by the exact people who know how to push your buttons. This episode gives you the framework to stop getting dragged around by other people's emotional chaos. It's not about perfection. It's about awareness. Control. Choice. Perfect For You If:You're tired of absorbing other people's crapYou react too quickly and regret itYou're working on boundaries or emotional intelligenceYou're ready to level up your spiritual resilienceWant to Support the Show? Hey there friends and weirdos! This week we add a little entomology creamer into our New Age spiritual enlightenment coffee with the tale of...the Butterfly People. When a massive crop circle depicting the Vitruvian Man as a Butterfly Man pops up in the Netherlands, skeptics and believers alike are baffled. Was this design man-made, as the lying media would like to suggest? Or is it alien, perhaps even cosmic, in its design? We tie this event into a bizarre phenomenon that would occur only a few years later: the Butterfly People of Joplin. All this and much more!

Strap into your tighty-whiteys folks, because this week we take on Something's Gotta Give, a movie that opens with Crazy Town's “Butterfly” and only gets more bewildering from there. Nick, Elise, and Anthony wade through a Hamptons fantasy land where everyone is wealthy beyond reason, morals take the day off, and Jack Nicholson wanders around in tighty-whiteys giving new meaning to his SAG card. We did not plan to hit this one, but Diane Keaton's passing continues our accidental tradition of rearranging the watchlist every time Hollywood breaks our hearts. Once the shock wears off, the real questions start piling up. Why is half the cast named “Beauty,” and why does the movie treat CPR like a party trick? How is Keanu Reeves the only person behaving like he belongs in a functioning society? And at what point did Nancy Myers decide that age gaps large enough to trigger a carbon dating session should be adorable? Step aside Geoff and make room for Fair Weather Manny who decided that this is a world so disconnected from reality that he tapped out of this episode. By the time we wrap, we are staring down the film's unbelievable box office numbers, the critic scores that feel like clerical errors, and the troubling fact that Nicholson's undercarriage has more screen presence than some billed actors. Pull up a chair and pour one out for Diane Keaton. You deserved better, we all did. https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0337741/

What happens when the pursuit of belonging turns darkly funny, heartbreakingly real, and deeply human? Rebecca Greene sits down with Oxford PhD student and author Heather Colley to explore her brilliant debut novel The Gilded Butterfly Effect, a darkly observant look at campus life, beauty culture, and the messy search for belonging. Together they unpack how sorority life, loneliness, and female friendship collide in unexpected ways. Heather shares the inspiration behind her unforgettable characters Penny and Stella, the Shakespearean roots of her title, and why fiction helps us feel less alone. Through laughter and reflection, Rebecca and Heather explore why young women crave connection, how easily identity gets lost in the crowd, and why every generation faces its own version of the fitting in struggle. It's a raw, smart, and deeply relatable conversation about growing up, finding yourself, and learning that sometimes being different is the truest form of belonging. Guest Host James Lott Jr talks about Butterfly McQueen! Butterfly McQueen was an African American actress and dancer, best remembered for her role as Prissy in the classic 1939 film Gone With the Wind. Her distinctive, high-pitched voice and expressive personality made her unforgettable to audiences — but her legacy extends far beyond that one film.Forgotten Hollywood is on Facebook. The books are on Amazon.
A documentary making its St. Louis debut this weekend takes a familiar format — the rock concert movie — and adds a few unexpected elements. As St. Louis Public Radio's Sarah Fentem reports, the film "Matter of Time" uses the genre to introduce audiences to a rare skin disease and the people searching for a cure.

This week, I talk with Wen-Yi Lee about her adult fantasy debut When They Burned the Butterfly—a fierce, Sapphic story of rage, inheritance, and transformation set in post-colonial Singapore. She shares how her homecoming to Singapore shaped this deeply personal book, how real history and mythology intertwined to form her world of fire magic and girl gangs, and why female rage and found family remain at the heart of her storytelling. We also dive into her creative process, from “chasing the shiny thing” when writing to reimagining real-life places and histories that have since disappeared. If you've been following Nature's Archive for a while, you might be familiar with the idea of “leave the leaves”. It represents one simple act of omission - not raking, blowing, or mulching leaf fall - that is resoundingly positive for the environment. But even if you think you know why leaving the leaves is helpful, I invite you to listen to today's guest, National Wildlife Federation naturalist David Mizejewski. If you are unfamiliar with David - let me just tell you his skill and enthusiasm for nature interpretation is second to none. Today, David walks us through all the ways leaves help the environment - and how bagging them up and sending them to a landfill makes a bad situation much worse. We also discuss useful tips for keeping leaves even if you have an HOA or difficult neighbors who might think you are neglecting your space. So if you still have leaves in your yard, please listen and take NWF's pledge to leave the leaves, and reap the rewards for years to come.Be sure to follow David on instagram, and get David's Book "Attracting Birds, Butterflies, and Other Backyard Wildlife". Throughout the planning for this episode, we jokingly used the term "Electro-Bangers," with credit to panelist Rob White, knowing full well we wouldn't use it in the end. But then we figured... why not? This episode is full of excellent electronic music and they are all bangers, so there you have it. Some are from places you'd expect like Yakuza: Like a Dragon, Stellar Blade, and Shin Megami Tensei V, but others may surprise you!We were also supposed to encourage you to revisit Rhythm Encounter 119 - RPG Dance Party, but since we all got too invested in today's picks, consider THIS your reminder to listen to that episode as a followup. It's magical gang warfare in Singapore, circa 1972. All the politics, history and gender you could ask for but folded into a plot that moves at breakneck speed and never lets you lose interest. We really liked this one.
Send us a textButterflies don't build marriages—choices do. We open up about the rush of infatuation, the friction of the fight for power, and the quiet strength of mature love, weaving our 26-year story through the science, the pitfalls, and the simple practices that help couples grow. You'll hear why dopamine and oxytocin make those early days feel like a dream, how cortisol and stress twist small annoyances into big battles, and what it takes to move from me-versus-you to us-versus-the-problem.We break down the three stages of love with honesty and hope. From late-night balcony confessions to the seven-year itch, we name what changes, what hurts, and what actually heals. Along the way, we offer concrete tools you can use tonight: summarize-before-you-respond listening, ground rules for hard talks, the three-to-one affirmation rule, and a pause, pray, plan approach for high-stakes decisions. We also tackle comparison, stonewalling, and scorekeeping, and we share how weekly family meetings, shared values, and small, daily touches restore trust and affection. If you've wondered where the spark went, or feared you've fallen out of love, this conversation reframes conflict as the classroom where love grows up. Mature love isn't less passionate; it's more secure, more generous, and far more sustainable. And yes, the butterflies can return in moments—when your habits make space for them. Want more? Our new book, Butterfly Love, tells the whole story and hands you the tools we use. Listen, share with someone who needs it, and leave a review so others can find the show. Then tell us: which stage are you in, and what tool will you try this week?GET THE BETTER MARRIAGE BOOTCAMP HERE:Better Marriage Bootcamp (kenandtabatha.com)Better Marriage 90-Day Devotional:90 Day Better Marriage Devotional - Ken and Tabatha (square.site)DOWNLOAD THE FAMILY MEETING OUTLINE HERE ⬇️https://www.kenandtabatha.com/pl/2148103888

President Donald Trump's privately funded plan to build a 90,000-square-foot ballroom has Democrats like Sens. Bernie Sanders and Elizabeth Warren fuming about “luxury” while they've shut down the government. Presidents have remodeled the White House for over a century—from Harry Truman's gut renovation to Barack Obama's basketball court—yet only Trump gets scorn. Victor Davis Hanson breaks down the hypocrisy on today's episode of “Victor Davis Hanson: In a Few Words.” “Do we really want to know what belittles the White House? I mean, we're just coming off the Biden administration, where cocaine was found in a carrel in the West Wing. … Do you remember when Barack Obama was president? He brought in a whole cadre of Muslim Brotherhood people that were tied to Hamas Islamic terrorism. He brought an entourage, in 2012, into the White House. I remember, 2016, he thought it would be neat to have his favorite rappers in the White House. Kendrick Lamar—“Pimp a Butterfly.” Remember those lyrics about killing the police in the White House? That rapper—‘kill po-po,' as he said. “We could go on with the embarrassing incidents. I won't mention what transpired between Monica Lewinsky and Bill Clinton right off the Oval Office in the presidential laboratory. But nonetheless, the ballroom was needed.
