Why does the Ascension of Jesus—one of the great feasts of the Church—end up celebrated on a Sunday in most dioceses, while others keep it on Thursday? And what does that tell us about our faith, traditions, and the challenges of Holy Days of Obligation? Father Dave and Deacon Bob unpack the significance of the Ascension within the Paschal Mystery, showing why it's more than just a “tag-on” after Easter, but a powerful reminder of Christ's victory and our shared destiny in Him. But as usual, sports, movies, and mild chaos before the theology kicks in. Join them as they recap the NBA and NHL playoffs, share stories from the Indy 500, Monaco Grand Prix, and Coca-Cola 600, and offer a review of Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning (complete with seat mix-ups and a D-Box adventure). They also chat about Father Dave's solo Thai food outing, pay tribute to the late George Wendt—aka Norm from Cheers—and reflect on how these everyday moments can point us toward joy, gratitude, and community. The episode wraps with humor, brotherhood, and a reminder that no matter where you are—whether at a car race, a movie theater, or Mass on Sunday—our true hope is in Jesus Christ. And yes, the Topps Pope Leo XIV baseball card is still on their wish list. Highlighted Sections (00:00) Playoff Plot Twists, Fast Cars, and Father Dave's Almost-Trip to the Indy 500 Father Dave and Deacon Bob kick off the episode with a rundown of the latest sports headlines, including the Pacers and Knicks battling in the NBA playoffs, and the Edmonton Oilers and Florida Panthers making waves in the NHL. They also discuss the excitement surrounding the Indy 500, the Monaco Grand Prix, and the Coca-Cola 600. (12:07) Movie Review: Mission Impossible + Solo Movie Etiquette Father Dave recounts his solo movie theater adventure to see Mission Impossible: Final Reckoning, complete with a funny seating mishap and his first-ever D-Box chair experience. They reflect on the perks (and occasional awkwardness) of going to the movies alone, and whether movie theaters are best for deep conversations or just a chance to unwind. (20:03) Thai Food, Pity Tips, and Remembering Norm The conversation shifts to Father Dave's recent solo Thai food experience—one of the best meals he's ever had, which he may or may not have posted about on Instagram—and a reflection on how dining alone can be a quiet joy. They also pay tribute to the late George Wendt (Norm from Cheers)and share laughs about a show that captured the essence of community in the most unexpected places. (26:13) Relics on Display and Catholic Curiosities The hosts dive into the story of St. Teresa of Avila's relics being publicly displayed, exploring the beauty, reverence, and quirkiness of Catholic traditions. They discuss how relics inspire faith, connect us to the saints, and remind us that the Church is both ancient and alive. (28:41) Thursday or Sunday? The Ascension's Place in the Paschal Mystery Father Dave and Deacon Bob unpack why the Ascension is a crucial part of the Paschal Mystery, how it's celebrated differently across dioceses, and why it's much more than just a calendar quirk. They encourage listeners to see these Holy Days as not just “rules to follow” but as moments to pause, celebrate, and remember the story of salvation. (37:45) Closing Blessings, Pentecost Prep, and Hope in the Everyday The episode wraps with reflections on Pentecost, Holy Days of Obligation, and staying grounded in faith—whether you're at a playoff game, a movie theater, or wrangling kids at home. Father Dave offers a prayer for graduates, families, and the entire They That Hope community, with a reminder that hope is our anchor—on Thursdays, Sundays, or any day in between. There is a famous story in the book of John and it involves an act of amazing grace by Jesus. It changed one man's life forever. As we discuss walking by faith this week, make sure these stories find their way deep into your memory.2 Corinthians 5:7 says, “For we live by faith, and not by sight.”In our story, Jesus meets a man blind from birth. He tells His disciples that, incredibly, the man will be the catalyst for God's glory to be displayed to all who know him. Jesus then puts mud on his eyes and tells him to go wash in a nearby pool of water. When he does, for the first time in his life, he can see! Simple faith released a miracle that lives through the ages.Notice that the man listened to the instructions of Jesus, and then made the decision to believe Him. By doing so, a whole new world opened to him.Darkness disappeared into light. And that can happen for us, too.Let's pray. Lord, you teach us always to believe in simple faith. And when we do, good things happen! Thank you for that. In Jesus' name, amen. Change your shirt, and you can change the world! Welcome to Day 2637 of Wisdom-Trek. Thank you for joining me. This is Guthrie Chamberlain, Your Guide to Wisdom Day 2637 – Wisdom Nuggets – Psalm 68:28-35 – Daily Wisdom Wisdom-Trek Podcast Script - Day 2637 Welcome to Wisdom-Trek with Gramps! I am Guthrie Chamberlain, and we are on Day 2637 of our Trek. The Purpose of Wisdom-Trek is to create a legacy of wisdom, to seek out discernment and insights, and to boldly grow where few have chosen to grow before. In today's Wisdom Nugget, we've arrived at the triumphant conclusion of our trek through the powerful Psalm 68 in the New Living Translation. This psalm has taken us on an incredible journey, revealing God as the mighty Divine Warrior, the compassionate Defender of the vulnerable, the faithful Leader through the wilderness, and the triumphant King dwelling in Zion. Now, in these final verses, the psalmist brings these themes to a magnificent crescendo, focusing on God's enduring strength, the future recognition of His sovereignty by all nations, and the ultimate source of power for His people. These verses offer a prophetic glimpse into a future where God's glory is fully revealed and His reign is universally acknowledged. They would have filled the ancient Israelites with hope, reminding them of God's ultimate plan amidst their present circumstances. Let's conclude our exploration of Psalm 68 by reading verses 28 through 31: (Reads Psalm 68:28-31 NLT) Summon your might, O God. Display your power, O God, as you have in the past. The kings of the earth are bringing tribute to your Temple in Jerusalem. Rebuke these enemy nations— these wild animals lurking in the reeds, this herd of bulls among the weaker calves. Make them bring bars of silver in humble tribute. Scatter the nations that delight in war. Let Egypt come with gifts of precious metals; let Ethiopia bring tribute to God. Guthrie Chamberlain: The psalmist begins this concluding section with a powerful plea and affirmation: “Summon your might, O God. Display your power, O God, as you have in the past.” This isn't a request for God to somehow become more powerful; it's a fervent prayer for Him to activate and demonstrate the immense power that is inherently His. The psalmist recalls God's past acts of power – the Exodus, the victories in the wilderness, the scattering of enemies – and asks for that same mighty power to be openly displayed once again. It's a prayer rooted in confidence in God's unchanging nature and His historical faithfulness. This display of God's power has a remarkable consequence, a vision of a future reality: “The kings of the earth are bringing tribute to your Temple in Jerusalem.” In the ancient world, tribute was a sign of submission and recognition of a greater sovereign's authority. Kings bringing tribute to Jerusalem, the site of God's Temple and His dwelling place, signifies the acknowledgment of God's supreme kingship by the rulers of the world. This was a truly audacious vision from an ancient Israelite perspective, given the power and arrogance of the empires that often dominated their world. It was a prophetic hope that one day, all earthly power wouldbow before the Almighty. The psalmist then calls for God to deal with persistent enemy nations, using vivid animal imagery: “Rebuke these enemy nations—these wild animals lurking in the reeds, this herd of bulls among the weaker calves.”
The new solo play “Precipice” was conceived by actor and self-described “memory activist” Damaris Webb. It’s part of the offerings of the Vanport Mosaic Festival she co-founded 10 years ago. The play, like the festival itself, centers on remembering and reclaiming history and telling the stories of people who have been marginalized or forgotten. We talk with Webb and playwright Chris Gonzalez about this new work and what they hope audiences take from it.

Investigative journalists Mandy Matney and Liz Farrell and attorney Eric Bland unpack the continued fallout from the Alex Murdaugh trial, and the four new felony charges for former Clerk of Court, Becky Hill. They dissect the charges against Hill, clarifying that she faces misconduct, obstruction and perjury allegations... but not for jury tampering, despite Team Murdaugh's narrative. The hosts reveal how Hill seemed to embrace the attention, and how 'Backstage' Becky's actions, like charging high fees and allegedly showing sealed photos of victims' bodies to media at a party, raised all sorts of alarms. Did the Murdaugh defense team see Hill as an "easy target" to base an appeal on and what was the role of attorney Joe McCulloch, present throughout the trial for... a screenplay? And what was the complicity of media members who viewed sealed evidence... Will there be consequences? We hope so. Despite these issues, we strongly believe Alex Murdaugh received a fair trial, and question the credibility of anyone alleging that jury tampering occurred. Plus, we address the P. Diddy federal sex trafficking trial and why transparency matters. ☕ Cups Up! ⚖️ Episode References“Murdaugh clerk of court Becky Hill facing perjury, misconduct charges” - CourtTV, May 14, 2025

Pastor Rob Byker joins us with a message from Isaiah 61, titled “A Planting To Display His Splendor.” God's people were in exile and in despair. They felt like ashes. Their life had fallen apart. Sometimes we can feel that way too! In Isaiah 61, God promises to restore us and give us beauty for ashes. He will give us the beauty of a righteous character. Indeed, we will be called “oaks of righteousness for the display of His splendor.”(verse 4). But this gift is also a task. A task to praise His restoring grace, prize His promise to beautify and pursue His righteousness. Want to learn more about Connections Church? Visit our website: https://myconnections.church/

AP correspondent Ed Donahue reports new rules are in effect for ticker sellers.
Mother's Day is a day we set aside to celebrate some of God's strongest creation. When we think about moms, we think about comfort, courage, and consistency. But we also know this day comes with a heaviness for many—loss, longing, or weariness. In 1 Kings 17, we meet a widow—gathering sticks, with just enough for one last meal. She felt like she had nothing to offer. But Elijah gave her a word from God: The flour jar will not become empty, and the oil jug will not run dry. The Bible says: She proceeded. She stepped out in faith—and God proved His faithfulness through her and to her. God has uniquely created every woman to reflect Him. And when we trust how He's designed us, He can use what we offer to make a lasting impact. Listen to this Mother's Day sermon about how women are designed to display God and how He can use you.Check out our video version of this episode: https://youtu.be/Tn-LIht3sC4Subscribe to our YouTube channel here: https://youtu.be/8wmeCwBf_zkLearn more about us at chestnutmountain.orgFollow us on Facebook & Instagram @chestnutmtn_Don't forget to subscribe to this podcast, leave a review, and let us know what you think.

Once, trains chugged right through the heart of Kalispell, making it a bustling railroad hub and commercial center in Northwest Montana. A spur line linked the town to Somers on Flathead Lake, where passengers and freight moved daily between Kalispell's Great Northern Depot and the steamboat terminal. Though the trains stopped running decades ago and the tracks removed, their impact still echoes today. At the Northwest Montana History Museum, visitors can now step back in time through a detailed model railroad display as part of an exhibit highlighting the region's timber industry roots. Find out about the volunteers who made the display happen with Daily Inter Lake's story Traveling Back in Time. Read Heidi Desch's full story online. Eric and Cameron Swithin My name is Eric Swithin, and I have loved film for as long as I can remember. God made us in His image, and He is the ultimate Creator, so by default, we are His little creators—like Father like son. I never imagined that I would end up being involved in film-making, probably because I thought too little of myself and my talents. Looking back now, I realize that I've always loved telling stories. Film is an outlet for me to put God on display and to communicate the messages of God in a uniquely powerful way! I have ZERO ambition for notoriety! I long for people to come to know the heart of Abba, our perfect Father! My name is Kameron Swithin, and I've always had a passion for performing arts, especially film. I started acting professionally around the time that I started talking! But, over the years, my creative interests have transitioned into directing faith-based true stories, along with writing, singing and song-writing. Our current society is so disconnected from the Heart of Abba. My husband and I are on a mission to put God and His Love on Display—to Make Him Known—so that more will fully surrender their lives to Him and experience His goodness.WebsiteInstagramFace BookYou TubeTik Tok
In Part 2 of Awakened By Adversity, we take a closer look at Job's suffering—not as a detour, but as part of God's larger story. Job's faith under pressure exposes Satan's lie that people only trust God for the blessings they receive. His endurance becomes a living display of God's wisdom, echoing beyond this life into the unseen spiritual realm. When you trust God in the middle of pain, your story becomes part of the evidence that silences the enemy and lifts up the name of Jesus.
