She's been recognized multiple times by Thinkers50 and co-wrote one of Harvard Business Review's top 100 most-read articles in history: Stop Telling Women They Have Imposter Syndrome. She is the author of Inclusion on Purpose, MIT Press's top-selling book of 2022 and now her newest book, Uncompete: Rejecting Competition to Unlock Success (Amazon, Bookshop)*. A lot of people think about work as a competition for resources. But what if, by inviting others to the table, you created more for everyone? In this conversation, Ruchika and I explore the opportunity for all of us to uncompete. Key Points Many of us are so socialized to compete that we don't realize the benefits of collective collaboration. Reach out to someone who inspires you. Praising someone for something awesome about them, without an accompanying ask, is so rare. Display genuine curiosity. Don't confuse “nice” small talk for depth. Ask bigger questions that get to the heart of who people are. As you build trust, talk numbers. In the professional context, real relationships of trust demand this kind of transparency. Take regular stock of relationships. Take people at their word and also watch how their actions line up – or don't. Invite others to the table. The bigger your circle, the more you create for everybody. Resources Mentioned Uncompete: Rejecting Competition to Unlock Success by Ruchika T. Good afternoon, I'm _____ with today's episode of EZ News. Tai-Ex opening The Tai-Ex opened down 87-points this morning from yesterday's close, at 27,816 on turnover of $7.7-billion N-T. Taiwan ranks top in Asia and 7th in world for internet freedom Taiwan has once again been rated the freest country in Asia for internet use and seventh globally in the latest Freedom on the Net report released the US-based Freedom House. The report assessed internet freedom in 72 countries between June 2024 and May 2025. It measures obstacles to access, restrictions on online content, and violations of users' rights. Taiwan had a score of 79 out of 100 and that was unchanged from last year, reaffirming (再次肯定或加強。) its status as one of the most open online environments in the world. Japan placed eighth with 78 points. The list was topped by Iceland with a score of 94 - while Estonia, Chile, Costa Rica and Canada rounded out the top five. China and Myanmar remained at the bottom of the list with scores of 9. Trump-Epstein relationship in spotlight ahead of key vote on files Donald Trump's relationship to late-sex offender Jeffrey Epstein is still under scrutiny ahead of key vote that could release more files. As Nick Harper reports from Washington. Russia Launches Attack on Kyiv Russia has launched a massive attack on Kyiv, causing fires and scattering debris across the city. Local officials report at least 11 people were injured, with five hospitalized. The attack continues today, prompting officials to urge residents to stay in shelters. City authorities warned of possible power and water outages. The strike came as European Union officials warned this week that Ukraine must continue to crack down on corruption following a major graft scandal that has put top nuclear energy officials under scrutiny (受到審查). But they also offered assurances (保證) that aid will continue to flow as Kyiv strains to hold back Russia's invasion. Borso D'Este Bible on Display in Italy One of the most spectacular examples of Renaissance illuminated manuscripts is going on rare public display as part of the Vatican's Holy Year celebrations. The 15th century Borso D'Este Bible is known for its miniature paintings in gold and lapis lazuli (青金石). It was unveiled Thursday in the Italian Senate, where it will remain on display until Jan. 16. It is usually kept in a safe at a library in Modena and is rarely exhibited publicly; it was transported to Rome under heavy security. The Bible was created between 1455 and 1461. It will remain behind humidity-controlled plate glass while in Rome, but visitors can “read” it digitally via touch screen displays featuring ultra-high-resolution images. That was the I.C.R.T. A lively roundtable on the big question: can curation be art? We compare collection-building to composing music—layers, sequencing, and narrative—plus mixtapes/DJ sampling, museum installation, and how display choices (binders, walls, set runs) create meaning. We draw a line between accumulation and authorship: intent, coherence, and communication turn a pile of cards into a personal statement. Along the way: eye appeal vs grade, why some sets read like albums, and how a collection can transparently reflect identity—even if you don't call yourself an “artist.” We finish with chat takes and a palate-cleanser lightning round: GOAT Halloween candy (Rockets/Smarties, Twix, Reese's, KitKat, Nerds Candy Corn, and more). Highlights Curation vs creation: When selection, sequencing, and presentation become authorship Music parallels: Layering, sampling, mixtapes, and “binder as album” storytelling Aesthetic judgment: Eye appeal over label; why some 9s beat 10s Display matters: Frames, binders, themed runs—the message is the medium Community voices: Chat pushes back and builds on the “art or acquisition?” spectrum Sign-off: Next streams, Expo schedule note, and the time-change reminder If you're into deep-dive hobby conversations, subscribe to Sports Cards Live and tap the

Here's what was covered:Macro Musings - As Nick and Gerardo head to the New Orleans Investment Conference, they discuss how the commodity supercycle is accelerating instead of ending. Governments and private capital are “all in” on critical metals, pouring billions into uranium, copper, and gold. The pair note that despite pullbacks, gold and silver remain in strong uptrends, consolidating healthily around key support levels, with gold holding above $4,000 and silver near $49. The Fed cut rates another quarter-point, and while bond yields ticked up briefly, inflation data shows a clear softening trend—setting the stage for another cut by December and the next leg of the bull market.Market Takes - The flood of institutional capital into the resource sector is accelerating. JPMorgan's $1.5 trillion national-security investment plan, which includes a $255 million injection into Perpetua Resources, exemplifies how serious the U.S. is about securing critical supply chains. Meanwhile, Saudi Arabia and the UAE are launching massive mining funds, and the Westinghouse $80 billion nuclear deal highlights the global uranium shortage. Gerardo calls it “a bull market across the board.” Both stress that investors must separate quality from hype as capital floods into the sector.Bizarro Banter - In Spokane, government finally caught up to the will of voters. After two years of dysfunction and wasted tax dollars, city officials reversed course and banned homeless encampments following a failed “compassion-first” experiment that saw zero people accept services. Nick calls it “a case study in government inefficiency,” while Gerardo reminds listeners that these same cycles—delay, denial, and reversal—play out across every level of politics. The segment ends with laughter, catharsis, and a reminder that markets may be irrational, but government is worse.Premium Portfolio Picks - For paid listeners only. In this episode, we dive into the political chaos heating up across the country:
This show has been flagged as Clean by the host. Hello, again. This is Trey. Welcome to part 3 in my Cheap Yellow Display (CYD) Project series. You can find Part 1 in episode 4472 and Part 2 in episode 4488. We previously left our handy hero searching for a solution to an amateur radio signal propagation dilemma, while he is trying to become proficient with Morse code. The CYD technology is simmering in the back of his brain – an answer in search of a problem. Hah! I love trying to create the feel of a vintage radio or television series with the intro and outro for these episodes. But I am by no means the hero. I am simply Trey – a grumpy old man and tinkerer. Instead, the real hero in this episode is Keith VE3SVQ-THE SHAKY KEY on YouTube. So.... Let's see. Where were we? Oh yes. I have been trying to learn Morse code -.-. --.- -.-. --.- (CQ CQ) That was me, tapping out "CQ CQ" in Morse code using the practice set I keep on my desk. This consists of a set of code paddles, connected to an Arduino Nano, which I built several years ago based what I learned watching Code Practice Oscillator; Aka: The Three Arduinos on Jmhrvy1947's YouTube Channel, and based on the code from his GitHub https://github.com/jmharvey1/ArduinoCPO . I did need to make modifications, both to support the Ardunio Nano on which I chose to run it, and for my own sanity, as the way that I learned to write code for Ardunio is very different. I focus on readability and flexibility. You can see these changes on my own GitHub ( https://github.com/jttrey3/PracticeOscillator/blob/main/PracticeOscillator.ino ) Anyway, I have been studying. I have been watching videos. I have been practicing. I might actually be learning some of this stuff. If you are interested in more details about the resources I am using, leave a comment for this episode, or drop me an email using the address in my profile, and I may record an episode about it. The result is that I have been learning. But also, the google and YouTube algorithms have been learning about me. And they have started to feed me more videos about Morse code. It is both helpful, and super creepy at the same time. So one day, when I opened YouTube, a title in my feed caught my eye. " NEW CW OP USE THE REVERSE BEACON NETWORK TO IMPROVE YOUR CODE ". I said to myself, "Self, this could be interesting." I watched Keith's video and learned about the Reverse Beacon Network . According to their website, "The Reverse Beacon Network (RBN) is a revolutionary new idea. Instead of beacons actively transmitting signals, the RBN is a network of stations listening to the bands and reporting what stations they hear, when and how well." Let's pause for a second and discuss amateur radio beacons. These are stations which repeatedly broadcast their identity on dedicated frequencies. Other operators around the world, who hear a beacon, can evaluate the signal propagation between their station and the beacon location. The RBN is just the opposite. Here, the station operator can transmit a test signal with their call sign, using CW or other digital modes. Then, they can look at the RBN website to see which RBN listening stations received their transmission, and even get a signal report. On the main page of the RBN website, one can observe a world map with paths showing where signals were received, and where they originated based on the registered grid square of the originating call sign. The table displayed below the map reveals the sending and receiving call signs, their distance apart (In miles or kilometers), the frequency, the mode, the type of transmission, the signal to noise ratio, the speed of the transmission, and the time/date using UTC. This information is collected by a network of volunteer reverse beacon receiving stations all over the world, which monitor the various radio bands, decode transmissions of CW (Morse code), RTTY (Radio Teletype), and PSK31 or PSK63 (Digital modes using Phase Shift Keying). These receiving stations report what they receive as well as the signal strength back into the Reverse Beacon Network to be recorded and published over the internet. Dave Casler discussed the RBN back in 2016 on his YouTube video The Ham Radio Reverse Beacon Network, AD#32 . This gives very good detail of how the network works. This sounds like exactly what I have been looking for. All I need to do is come up with a way to reliably, accurately, and consistently transmit "CQ CQ CQ TEST DE" followed by my call sign three times at a constant 20 words per minute (WPM). If I can do this a few times, I can then check the RBN to see where I was received. By including the "TEST" string, recipients know that I do not wish to start a conversation. I can get accurate reporting of where my signal is going and how strong it is. But remember that my morse code skills are still inadequate. And my radios do not have "Keyer memories" like those which can be found in higher end transceivers like the Icom 7300, enabling programmed messages to be sent at the touch of a button. But there is a fairly inexpensive solution to this problem. One which has been nagging at the back of my mind. Maybe, I could use the Cheap Yellow Display to effectively add "Keyer memory" to any of my radios by simply plugging it in to the code key input port. These stored messages could be transmitted by simply touching their specific icon on the touch screen. Now we have a plan. But how will we do it? What else will we need to learn? Will it even work? Tune in to the next episode in the series to find out the answers to some of these questions and more! Provide feedback on this episode.
There's concerns from some that a Canterbury museum's displayed World War II Nazi artefacts without context. Geraldine's Military Museum showcases tanks and machinery of war, alongside a Nazi flag and mannequins wearing the uniforms of Hitler's elite bodyguard. In the leadup to the “No Kings” protests, Trump and Republicans widely derided the protesters as extremists, criminals, and terrorists. Then the protests actually happened. They were a wild success: Peaceful, enormous, and representative of a very wide swath of American society. So what did Republicans do in response? They just kept on calling the protesters criminals and terrorists. That MAGA smear is sharply contradicted by countless on-the-scene accounts. We talked to writer Ana Marie Cox, who has a great piece for The New Republic capturing what the protests looked like in a red county in Texas.
