Ghanashyam Das is an ordained Vaisnava Priest and Hospice Chaplain at Community Hospice and Palliative Care in Gainesville, FL. He lived for 11 years as a brahmacari monk in New York City at the Bhakti Center before transitioning to the Hospital setting and becoming a professional spiritual care provider. At New York Presbyterian Hospital he worked conjointly with the Pastoral Care Department and Palliative Care Services for 6 years. He teaches Bhakti Philosophy and Meditation at several Yoga Studios in NYC and Florida, and was the Co-founder of “End-of-Life Matters,” an End-of-life initiative for care givers offered at The Bhakti Center, a Vedic Cultural Center and Temple located in downtown Manhattan. He also previously served as Hindu Chaplain at both New York University and Columbia University. Episode #33 - Grieving: Br. Ken Spivey joins us to talk about Grieving God's Way. Br. Ken serves as an Associate Pastor in the Pastoral Care Department at Healing Place Church. He also serves the community as a Chaplain for the Ascension Parish Sheriff's Office and Fire Districts in Ascension and St. George. He also leads our Grieving With Hope Ministry which is a Small Group for couples or individuals working through the grieving process.

This week my guest is Larry Easterling of the Spiritual and Pastoral Care Department of Mountain States Health Alliance.  He has written an article that will be published this Fall in the Journal of Pastoral Care and Counseling, entitled “Spiritual Care with Appalachians:  Beyond Stereotypes.”   He is also an organizer of “Prays Well With Others:  The Use of Meditation/Prayer in Various Faith Groups.”   Dr. Easterling describes the seminar and article in this way: The whole purpose of our seminar “The Use of Meditation and/or Prayer in Various Faith Groups” is to learn about how “the other” practices their faith. The article I have included helps us get beyond stereotypes prevalent about Appalachians. And our seminar hopes to do that as well with diverse faith groups. The first session was September 16th.  Remaining sessions will be on the following Mondays:  September 30, October 21, and October 28 at 7 pm at the Votow Auditorium in the Palma Robinson Center across from the Johnson City Medical Center.   For more information visit the Facebook page.
