Welcome back listeners and today we welcome Jacqueline Suskin for today's conversation centered on her latest book, The Verse for Now. Its theme is embracing our planetary identity while acknowledging our intimate, vulnerable human side amid the climate crisis.Jacqueline's Website @jsuskin on Instagram Jacqueline's Facebook page Book order page: https://www.flowerflowerpress.press/shop/the-verse-for-nowHere is an outline of the conversation:Evolution of Creative Cycles:"Jacqueline, welcome back to the show! In our January conversation about A Year in Practice, you emphasized the cyclical nature of creativity and the reflective power of winter. With The Verse for Now, you delve into the idea of accepting ourselves as both vast and intimate—planetary yet personal. Can you share what inspired this shift and how your approach to creativity has evolved since then?"Nature as a Muse:"Your latest work invites us to find guidance in moments of contemplation: kneeling by a rushing creek, walking city streets, or sitting under an old growth redwood. Could you describe a personal moment from your creative journey when nature transformed into a profound source of poetic inspiration?"Spontaneity vs. Craft:"Given your impressive portfolio of over forty thousand improvisational poems through Poem Store, how do you balance the spontaneity of in-the-moment creation with the intentional craft required for a cohesive work like The Verse for Now? What role does each play in your creative process?"Teaching & Community Impact:"As a teaching artist with InsideOut Literary Arts and the mind behind the Poem Forest curriculum, how does engaging with communities and young creators influence your own writing? In what ways do these experiences inform the themes of interconnection and transformation in your latest book?"Message for Challenging Times:"In a world marked by environmental challenges and rapid change, The Verse for Now speaks to finding solace and agency through poetry. What message or practical guidance would you like to share with our listeners who are seeking to nurture their creativity and connection to the earth during tumultuous times?"A special thanks to our sponsor, White Cloud Coffee Roasters. Hit us up at @cityafterdark so let's dive into the episode: Charlotte panics about her 'bed-manner' when her lover Dr. Bram Walker dozes off in bed once after a grueling day of surgery, so she takes a tantric sex class given in a very hands-on demonstration by a psychologist couple. Sam not only proclaims the dawn of pan-sexuality, but actually agrees to have a threesome with gay couple David and David, who lose interest in the idea just when she was running hot. Carrie bumps into (the cigarette of) very cute film composer Patrick Casey. She is puzzled how reluctantly he takes further steps until he confesses to be a recovering alcoholic, but when she is the one hitting the breaks...
Send us a textCoryne & Francene are back this week with episode 15 - which p.s francene forgot to press record at the beginning of the show... therefore less pre-show banter! sorry y'all Miranda considered Sunday a nightmare because children swarm everywhere, there is even a family hour at her gym, but it did allow her to meet hunky Simon Cobb, indulgent divorced father of rascal Simon, who loves to push the elevator's buttons, and his; when Simon surprises her naked in the lo after a hot night, that signs her marching-orders. Carrie met fiction writer Vaughn Wysel at a lunch; he presents her to mother Wallis, her partner Duncan, a teacher, and sisters Franny and Zoe, who all insist she stays for a seafood feast; six hours later he can finally jump her bones, yet his sperm beats him to the post. She keeps dating and doing him for his whole family, mainly the fascinating mother, an Oscar-nominated documentary maker, despite his recurring precipitous wetness, but precisely her liberating education without sexual taboos proves unsurmountable. Charlotte receives her studly brother Wesley, about to be divorced from Lesley; he tickles Samantha's fancy at first sight. Charlotte explodes finding Sam in her guest-room wearing only his T-shirt, but when Wesley explains he needed the sex after two sexually frustrated years with his frigid wife, Charlotte goes make up.

After a few lonely weeks without Big, Carrie invites John, her dependable rebound-lover just-for-sex who always repairs her self-esteem, and wonders why she never tried committing to him, so the next time they actually go out for dinner, which only proves their conversation is as uninspiring as their sex is enjoyable; the following movie is their last date ever.

Send us a textWe are LIVE for this episode, with a special guest observer one of our friends (and biggest fans!) The girls wrestle with social inequalities. When Samantha dates super-rich Harvey, she enjoys the perks she claims not to crave, but finds his relationship with female servant Sum is not as one-sided as it seems. Charlotte's date with celebrity actor Wylie Ford starts as a luxury dream, but she soon finds she's expected to become more of an abjectly servile fan then a self-respecting lover. Miranda takes Steve shopping for his wardrobe but has a taste he cannot afford and yet won't allow her to pick up the bill, even if that breaks them up. Carrie is insecure again when Big takes her to a socialite party on Park Avenue but never seems able to express his love, and therefore she goes out with an artistic flirt without means she find waitering there.

When Charlotte decides her uncircumcised lover, restaurant critic Mike, looks like a sharpei below the belt, he decides to everyones surprise to get cut, but the psychological side-effect of his 'second virginity' makes her regret his move. When we last listened to season three of “In the Dark,” Madeleine Baran had collected signatures from the families of the Haditha victims, hoping to obtain secret photographs of the massacre. In the final episodes of the season, the team gives the pictures to an analyst who says the images are clear evidence of a war crime. Military prosecutors eventually charged eight Marines for killing two dozen unarmed Iraqi men, women and children. But a cascade of immunity offers, intervention by commanding officers, and a generous plea bargain meant no one was held accountable for the murders in any meaningful way.The final episodes of “In the Dark” season three probes what went wrong with the prosecution of the infantrymen who rounded up and slaughtered civilians in retaliation for an IED attack. And while the number of victims in Haditha have been listed as 24, Baran and her team find evidence the number is too low.OUR SPOILER-FREE REVIEWS OF "IN THE DARK" EPISODES 6 THROUGH 9 BEGIN IN THE FINAL 11 MINUTES OF THE EPISODE. Up next in this episode which Francene & coryne break down... little cameo from none other than Bradley Cooper! Now none of the girls has a relationship, the quartet hits a salsa bar all night, so Carrie is late for a photo-shoot for Stanford's boyfriend Nevin's magazine; the result is worse then she ever feared. Only Samantha is absent from the power-walking, where Miranda bumps into an ex, hunky ophthalmologist Josh, who just didn't give her orgasms; history repeats itself, and she still fakes coming; once she tells him, his confidence is shaken, so he gets her to coach him- now sex feels like an exam subject. Charlotte enjoys the handy jobs done by and kissing with unemployed actor Tom, too much to see him move to Salt Lake City for a soap part, but is that enough? Samantha was picked up by the salsa club's co-owner William, and invites Carrie to join them for the summer in the East Hamptons, but is stood up. At a party with Stanford, drunk Carrie meets single smoker Jake
An Iraqi lawyer reaches out to an American investigative journalist about a massacre that killed family members and others in his hometown. In 2005, after an IED attack on their convoy, US Marines stormed a village and executed 24 men, women, and children. The servicemen claimed they were returning fire from insurgents, but the evidence collected - including secret photographs - suggested a war crime was committed. Despite international condemnation of the Haditha massacre, none of the Marines served time for the killings. Two decades later, Madeleine Baron asks the question “why not?”Season three of the two-time Peabody Award winning podcast “In The Dark” from The New Yorker digs into the arcane world of the military justice system. The nine-part series is the result of four years of investigation, hundreds of interviews, and thousands of unreleased documents.
