In today's episode of 15:14, Kevin Carson, Executive Director of the Biblical Counseling Coalition, is joined by Janet Aucoin, Director of Women's Ministry at Faith Church in Lafayette, Indiana, and host of the Joyful Journey Podcast. Janet shares how the podcast began during the COVID era, her passion for providing women with biblically rich, practically helpful content, and the lessons she has learned over six seasons of ministry. The conversation explores the heart behind Joyful Journey's tagline—"When you choose truth, you choose joy"—and highlights Janet's commitment to helping listeners move beyond merely knowing biblical truth to faithfully applying it in everyday relationships and circumstances. Janet also offers a powerful discussion on biblical love, drawing from John 13 and the Old Testament concept of hesed. She explains how Christ's sacrificial love becomes both the foundation for our identity and the model for how we love others through suffering, sin, and life's difficult challenges. Janet is ACBC certified, teaches at Faith Community Institute, coordinates the Faith Bible Seminary Wives Fellowship, and serves as a retreat and conference speaker. She holds a B.S. in Human Resources from the University of South Florida. As you listen, pay special attention to this incredible quote: "We love because He first loved us. Before we focus on what we need to do, we need to stand under the waterfall of Christ's love for us." You can listen to the Joyful Journey Podcast here. Michael interviews Kevin Dau, pastor for discipleship and counseling at Hespeler Baptist Church in Cambridge, Ontario, and a practicum instructor for Heritage College and Seminary's master's level biblical counseling certificate. Dau contrasts professional counseling with pastoral counseling, where caring becomes more personal and multifaceted because counselees are also part of church life, increasing stress and highlighting human limits. Using Galatians 6:1–3, Exodus 18, and themes from Psalms, they discuss bearing one another's burdens while watching for temptation, pride, and burnout, and the need for accountability, peer support, and sometimes personal counseling for counselors. They emphasize proactive self-care, ordinary means of grace, recognizing stress signals (affect and effectiveness), building a church culture of vulnerability, and regularly asking trusted observers what they see and acting on it.00:00 Podcast intro and guest00:59 Kevin ministry roles02:10 Training counselors at Heritage03:38 Pastoral burdens and stress07:24 Needing care and counseling12:00 Accountability for shepherds18:12 Asking for help early20:34 Stress and means of grace24:55 Galatians warnings and humility26:28 Practical steps and closing

Living Hope founded the Center for Biblical Counseling in 2016. Now functioning as it's own non-profit as the "Centers for Hope", the counseling center still serves Southcentral Kentucky by pointing clients to Scripture as God's source for life change. Bekah McColl sits down with Pastor Elliott Pratt and her counselor, Savannah Pratt, to share how she broke from shame and guilt to freedom and forgiveness through biblical counseling.
Mike welcomes Jeemin Moon to discuss an eschatological perspective on mental health, trauma, and resurrection hope. Moon shares updates about directing the biblical care and counseling studies program at Heritage College and Seminary, implementing ABC Level One (Equip to Counsel) for fourth-year students, and completing PhD comprehensive exams at Southern Seminary while writing a dissertation on a biblical theology of shame and God's covering. He explains why he taught on resurrection for a forthcoming book project, then reads Hebrews 2:5–18 and connects it to trauma, distinguishing traumatic events from being “traumatized,” and emphasizing Jesus' resurrection ministry to sufferers. In a world overflowing with voices promising wisdom, healing, and direction, there is only One whose counsel is perfect, eternal, and sufficient — the Lord Jesus Christ, the Wonderful Counselor foretold by the prophet Isaiah centuries before His coming (Isaiah 9:6). In this episode, Pastor Jeff Christianson talks about one of the most urgent conversations happening in the Body of Christ today: Who is truly counseling God's people? As biblical counselors and shepherds of souls, we must ask ourselves whether we are pointing people to the living Christ and the life-giving truth of His Word — or whether we have quietly allowed the philosophies of this world to creep into the sacred ministry of care and counsel. This episode is a call to return — to return to the sufficiency of Scripture, to the person and work of the Holy Spirit, and to Jesus Christ Himself, in whom "are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge" (Colossians 2:3). Biblical counseling is not a clinical practice. It is a mutual, Spirit-led ministry within the family of God, where believers walk alongside one another, wielding the Word as a lamp, and trusting the Lord to do what only He can do in a broken and hurting soul. Whether you serve in ministry or simply desire to care for others biblically, these insights will deepen your understanding, strengthen your faith, and remind you that true hope and wisdom are found in Christ and His Word alone. In today's episode of 15:14, Kevin Carson, Executive Director of the Biblical Counseling Coalition, is joined by Jonathan Holmes, the new Executive Director of the Christian Counseling and Educational Foundation (CCEF). Jonathan brings years of experience serving in pastoral ministry, counseling ministry, and organizational leadership through Parkside Church and Fieldstone Counseling, along with a deep commitment to strengthening the church's ministry of personal care. In this conversation, Kevin and Jonathan reflect on the historic role CCEF has played within the biblical counseling movement and discuss Jonathan's vision for the next season of ministry at CCEF. Jonathan shares how CCEF's mission to “restore Christ to counseling and counseling to the local church” continues to shape the organization's priorities, particularly the desire to equip ordinary believers in churches for wise, personal ministry. Together, they discuss the importance of connecting the riches of Scripture to the troubles of everyday life and helping churches cultivate meaningful, relational care. Kevin and Jonathan also explore the balance between theological depth and relational warmth in counseling ministry. Jonathan emphasizes that biblical counseling is not merely the transfer of information or expertise, but a ministry of presence, compassion, wisdom, and faithful conversation rooted in God's Word. Drawing from the influence of the late David Powlison and longtime CCEF faculty such as Ed Welch, the conversation highlights the importance of patient, church-centered ministry that walks with people through suffering and sanctification over time. Additionally, they discuss the opportunities and challenges facing biblical counseling organizations today, the need for accessible training for pastors and church members, and the growing global impact of biblical counseling ministry. Jonathan shares his hope that CCEF will continue serving as a trusted voice that mines the treasures of Scripture for the struggles of life while strengthening the local church's role in soul care. Rooted in a shared love for the local church and confidence in the sufficiency of Scripture, this episode encourages pastors, counselors, and church members alike to pursue faithful, compassionate ministry that brings the hope of Christ into the realities of everyday life. Recording on the road at the Canadian Biblical Counseling Coalition in Oakville, Ontario, Michael interviews biblical counselor Alysia Whiteside of Deep Roots Biblical Counseling. Whiteside shares her conversion in 2018, her interrupted plans to pursue medicine amid severe ulcerative colitis, multiple surgeries, and a permanent ileostomy, and how God redirected her into biblical counseling training and certifications. Her breakout topic, “Held But Not Yet Healed: Christ in the Midst of Physical and Mental Suffering,” frames chronic illness as “embodied suffering” that integrates physical, mental, and spiritual burdens and raises the question of who God is when healing does not come. Using Psalm 13, she explains a lament framework—turn, complain, ask, trust—leading to praise, emphasizing the “already but not yet” tension of hope amid suffering and encouraging sufferers and caregivers to write their own laments to rehearse God's character and respond faithfully.00:00 Welcome and Road Update01:30 Meet Alysia Whiteside02:26 Her Health Journey and Calling04:30 Training and Narsegesis06:14 Held But Not Yet Healed06:34 Reading Psalm 1308:29 Embodied Suffering and Hope12:18 Lament Framework Explained14:57 Trust and Gods Hesed19:05 Counseling the Stuck20:57 Write Your Own Lament23:26 Singing Joy in Suffering26:12 Encouragement for Chronic Pain27:16 Final Thanks and Wrap UpEpisode MentionsDeep Roots Biblical Counseling

In today's episode of 15:14, Kevin Carson, Executive Director of the Biblical Counseling Coalition, is joined by Nathanael Logan, a US Army Chaplain and certified counselor, for part two of their conversation. Captain Nathanael Logan serves as a Chaplain in the U.S. Army, with over two decades of service across active and reserve components, including a deployment to Afghanistan. He has also served as a Drill Sergeant and a pastor. He holds a Master of Arts in Biblical Counseling and a Master of Arts in Biblical Studies from Baptist Bible Theological Seminary and is a certified biblical counselor with the Association of Certified Biblical Counselors. He serves on the advisory board for Fallen Soldiers Ministries and is committed to the faithful application of Scripture for the care of souls and the glory of God. In part two, they continue their conversation by focusing on the counseling side of military chaplaincy. Chaplain Logan opens a window into what happens when soldiers step into his office carrying burdens of suffering, relational conflict, fear, and confusion. He explains how he listens carefully, looks for spiritual indicators, and seeks to bring the wisdom of Scripture to bear in moments that often feel urgent and complex. The conversation also explores why military counseling often begins as triage, how chaplains differ from mental health professionals, and what young people should know if they are considering chaplaincy as a calling. On the Speak the Truth podcast recorded at the Canadian Biblical Counseling Coalition conference, Michael interviews Matt King about his ministry Broomtree and his conference session on mental health in the church. King explains Broomtree's growth, including increasing requests for counseling, conferences, and free online resources on topics like anxiety, marriage, and thought life, with a podcast launching soon. They discuss why Christians should lead mental health conversations, noting an estimated $280 billion spent annually in the U.S., and ground the topic in Genesis: God's good creation, the Imago Dei, and how the fall fractured relationships with God, self, others, and creation. They highlight God's pursuit in Genesis 3, the covering of animal skins as foreshadowing Christ's atoning blood, and encourage believers who feel inadequate to engage with hope through the Spirit and adoption as God's children.00:00 Welcome and Setup01:29 Broomtree Update02:41 Conference Banter03:02 Why Mental Health Matters04:01 Genesis and Goodness07:16 The Fall and Fracture11:34 Covering and Atonement15:06 Church on the Front Lines16:25 Hope for the Wounded18:00 Chick-fil-A Stories19:11 Final ThanksEpisode MentionsBroom Tree EP. 173 Finding Light in the Darkness W/ Matt King

This episode of the Westminster Podcast features Claudia Barrero in conversation with Nate Shannon, exploring her journey from a Roman Catholic background and aspirations in medicine to a calling in psychology shaped by a growing evangelical faith. Barrero reflects on the tension between secular therapeutic frameworks and a biblical understanding of human nature, and how the Lord used her experiences in Colombia and Peru to lead her toward a Reformed perspective on counseling as a form of discipleship and gospel witness. The conversation highlights the challenges of practicing biblical counseling in a Latin American context where it is largely unknown, often misunderstood, and must be carefully contextualized amid cultural distrust, hierarchical church structures, and the influence of both secular psychology and prosperity-driven religious movements. Ultimately, Barrero presents counseling as a means of helping both believers and non-believers reckon honestly with God, suffering, and the need for a Savior, while also calling attention to the broader needs of the church in Colombia for deeper theological formation, active membership, and a more comprehensive grasp of Scripture's authority in all of life. Connect with me, Jeff Christianson, the Dean of Biblical Counseling. jeffchristianson.com/workwithme The Story of King Manasseh2 Chronicles 33:1-20 The Mighty Grace of God King Manasseh is one of the clearest pictures in Scripture of how powerful the grace of God really is. When a man finally humbles himself before the Lord, grace meets him there. Manasseh had gone far into sin, rebellion, and darkness. But when he was brought low, he looked to God as his only remedy. That is humility. That is faith. And the Lord answered him with mercy. Where there is true humility before God, wonderful grace flows from the heart of God. And notice this—God's grace did more than simply rescue him from bondage. Grace began to transform him. Manasseh didn't just say, "Thank You, Lord." He started cleaning house. He removed the idols. He cast out what dishonored God. He repaired the altar of the Lord. He offered peace offerings and thank offerings. And he called others to serve the Lord God of Israel. That is what grace does. Grace restores. Grace changes. Grace cleans up what sin tore down. This story is not just about a wicked king. It is about the mighty grace of God poured out on the humble. "God resists the proud, but gives grace to the humble." — James 4:6 (NKJV) If you are low today, broken today, or waking up to the damage sin has done—do not run from God. Humble yourself before Him. There is still grace. And His grace is mighty.

In this week's Sermon Spotlight, we continue our “No More Fear” series by diving deeper into one of the most foundational truths of the Christian life: identity.Tim Sanford is joined by Jessica Oplack and Mark Francis for an honest and practical conversation about fear, faith, and what it really means to be “alive to God.” Together, they wrestle with questions many of us are asking: Is fear a sin—or something more complex? What do we do with anxiety, trauma, or emotional reactions? How does our identity in Christ reshape the way we think, feel, and respond? Through real-life examples, personal stories, and biblical truth from Romans 6, this episode challenges us to move beyond surface-level thinking and into the freedom that comes from knowing who we are in Christ. If you've ever struggled with fear, people-pleasing, anxiety, or finding your worth in the wrong places—this conversation is for you.Listen to the sermon we're talking about: fbcva.org/current-sermon-series or fbcva.org/podcastsBe a part of the conversation by submitting your thoughts and questions: fbcva.org/sermon-spotlight-podcastWatch this episode and subscribe on YouTube: @fellowshipbiblechurchvaFind out more about Fellowship Bible Church: fbcva.orgSubscribe to emails from Fellowship: fbcva.org/subscribeEngage with us:Facebook: facebook.com/groups/fellowshipfamInstagram: instagram.com/fellowshipbiblechurch/#SermonSpotlight #FellowshipBibleChurch #FBCVA #ChristianPodcast #BibleTeaching #Discipleship #FollowingJesus #FaithInEverydayLife #kindness #Godiskind #kindnessofGod #resurrection #nomorefear #fear #fearoverfaith

In this fourth episode of the Experiencing God's Peace mini series, we talk about how biblical community can be one of the ways God strengthens peace in our everyday lives. If you desire to feel more peacefully present and faithfully aligned in this season, this episode will encourage you to take one small step toward connection. In This Episode, We Discuss: • Why God designed us to live supported, not isolated • How community strengthens peace for working Christian moms • What biblical encouragement can look like in everyday life • Simple ways to build supportive faith-based relationships • How encouragement from others helps quiet internal pressure • The role of prayer and shared truth in sustaining peace • Support options through Faith Led Ministries Support Resources Mentioned Faith Led Ministries offers several ways to support Christian working moms as they pursue peace, clarity, and faithful alignment in their priorities: Podcast – biblical encouragement and practical guidance for everyday life Free Resources – tools to help you take small, meaningful steps toward feeling more peacefully present (listed below) Life Coaching – structured support and accountability as you clarify priorities, build habits, and move forward intentionally toward your goals (email lindsay@faithledministries.com) Biblical Counseling – individualized, Scripture-centered care for those navigating anxiety, overwhelm, grief, relationship challenges, spiritual concerns, or other life struggles. Have you ever referred someone for biblical counseling and they said, “Oh I tried that and it didn't work for me”? They may have had a counselor who was new, or who was untrained, or didn't know how to apply scripture appropriately. This happens, but it is not always the case. If the person seeking counseling is expecting an “instant oatmeal” solution, they will be disappointed. Biblical counseling uses the Bible to bring solutions to the issues of life. Life has so many issues, and fortunately, the Bible has the answers. What biblical counseling does is it points a person to the all-sufficient Word of God to solve problems. This episode examines things that make biblical counseling less effective, along with suggestions to turn that around. Let's consider four reasons why biblical counseling may not work, with a goal of improving the outcome. Michael interviews Adam Westlake, a worship leader and biblical counselor, about using music and singing as a growth assignment in counseling. Westlake describes singing as “integrative work” that aligns what believers know and feel, citing Colossians 3:16 and Ephesians 5 on singing psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs, and discussing James' connection between suffering, prayer, and cheerful singing. They argue singing is often under-practiced outside Sunday services yet can help sufferers express truth “slant,” foster solidarity, and provide “portable theology” the Spirit brings to mind. They address concerns about emotional manipulation, emphasizing tethering emotion to what is true about Jesus, and note the value of varied song forms. Westlake shares a daily text-based devotional, “Sing,” and the episode ends with him leading the doxology.00:00 Podcast Welcome00:37 Meet Adam Westlake01:04 Why Singing Matters04:53 Singing in Suffering07:39 Worship Leading and Counseling09:56 Emotion and Worship13:26 Music as Homework17:22 Daily Sing Devotional19:41 Doxology and FarewellEpisode MentionsRegister Now for the 2026 Called to Counsel Conference All My Questions - Bethany Bernard (Spotify) Sing - Daily Devotional with the Worship Initiative Better Days Counseling - Adam Westlake Counseling
