If you want your words to carry power, you have to stop speaking like a beggar and start praying like a BELIEVER.I think so often, we talk TO God and not WITH God. So often we forget that its a two way relationship. A two way conversation and that just as much as God desires to hear from us, He also desires that we hear from Him. Stop praying uncertain prayers about things God has already promised like healing, provision, and peace. Know His will and declare it. 1 John 5:14 says “this is the confidence we have in approaching God; that if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us. 2.We don't need to pray “God be with me..” You don't need to ask God to be with you, He promised He already is. Instead thank him for his present and walk in it. Hebrews 13:5 says I will never leave you or forsake you. Declare God is with you now and always. I walk with His presence, not apart from it.

What happens when someone who's been teaching the Bible for 50 years sits down to talk about gospel clarity, gender dynamics in preaching, and why justification still needs explaining? In this episode, Mike Neglia is joined by Elyse Fitzpatrick—author, speaker, and theologian—for a deeply honest and theologically rich conversation. They discuss the subtle ways a “soft prosperity gospel” sneaks into evangelical preaching, the heartbreaking lack of gospel clarity among many churchgoers, and how male preachers can better represent the women in Scripture and the women in their churches.Elyse shares stories from decades of ministry, opens up about teaching through pain, and gives a practical challenge to pastors: listen more. Ask for input. Especially from wise women. And never assume you've taught the gospel enough.Whether you're a pastor, teacher, or church leader, this episode will challenge you to preach Christ more clearly, teach more thoughtfully, and love more deeply.Elyse holds a certificate in biblical counseling from CCEF (San Diego) and an M.A. in Biblical Counseling from Trinity Theological Seminary. She has authored more than 25 books on daily living and the Christian life. Elyse loves to proclaim the good news of the gospel: That Jesus, the Second Person of the Trinity, perfectly obeyed all the Law in our place, suffered in isolation and agony as punishment for our sin, died, and then rose again, all for our justification.A frequent speaker at national conferences, she has been married for over 50 years and has three adult children and six really adorable grandchildren. Along with her husband, Phil, Elyse attends Grace Bible Church in Escondido, California.Resources Mentioned: Unloved: The Rejected Saints God Calls Beloved by Elyse FitzpatrickAmazon: https://www.amazon.com/Unloved-Rejected-Saints-Calls-Beloved/dp/1683597826Faithlife eBook: https://ebooks.faithlife.com/product/305973/unloved-the-rejected-saints-god-calls-belovedBecause He Loves Me by Elyse FitzpatrickAmazon: https://www.amazon.com/Because-He-Loves-Me-Transforms/dp/1433519518Faith Resources (eBook): https://store.faithlafayette.org/bctc-feb-12-19-2022/because-he-loves-me-ebook/Rid of My Disgrace by Justin & Lindsey HolcombAmazon: https://www.amazon.com/Disgrace-Healing-Victims-Crossway-Paperback/dp/B00DWYWQYOCrossway: https://www.crossway.org/books/rid-of-my-disgrace-tpb/Ligonier: https://store.ligonier.org/rid-of-my-disgrace-paperbackDr. Pamela MacRae – Professor of Ministry to Women, Moody Bible Institute (future guest on the show, author of "How Women Hear the Sermon." Today's episode marks the start of our in-depth series on the potential harms of faith-based counseling, examining how scripture can sometimes be misused as a tool of control rather than healing. Approximately one-quarter of U.S. adults—about 28 percent—identify as evangelical Christians, and many turn to church-run counseling rather than licensed therapists. But what are the consequences when Christian nationalism, purity culture, and patriarchy influence the guidance given, leading to harmful practices and the reinforcement of abusive systems? In this first episode, I am joined by Peter Bell, host of the Sons of Patriarchy podcast, to explore how “Bible-only” therapy often silences survivors, how patriarchal theology shapes advice on relationships and mental health, and the critical warning signs when pastoral care shifts into manipulation and control. This conversation serves as the foundation for the important discussions that follow throughout the series.
Pastor Jeff Christianson teaches on the essential role of the Holy Spirit in biblical counseling, based on 1 Corinthians 2:12-13. He contrasts human wisdom with the Spirit's power, reminding us that true healing comes from God's Word, not worldly ideas. Biblical counselors are called to speak God's truth, not popular psychology, and trust the Holy Spirit for real change. For many, church is a sanctuary, a place of healing, guidance, and community. But for others, church can represent pain, betrayal, and confusion. Whether it's due to witnessing a leadership failure, experiencing cultures of legalism, exclusion, or spiritual abuse - church hurt can leave lasting scars that challenge not only a person's trust in others, but also their relationship with God.How do people who have experienced these things overcome their feelings? How do we grieve the failures of people we respected and loved? How do we confront bitterness and what in some cases may be justification for personalsin? How do we find the strength to forgive and move on in our pursuit of Christ? In this episode, we're joined by Jonathan Kindler, professor of Biblical Counseling at the Living Faith Bible Institute, who has both experienced “church hurt” firsthand and dedicated much of his work to helping others navigate it. Together, we explore why these painful experiences happen in places meant for love and acceptance, and what people can do to overcome them. We also look at how leaders should respond when people in our congregations have experienced a trial or hardship within the church setting.Visit https://www.lfbi.org/learnmore
Anger – that powerful emotion that can either fuel righteousness or destroy relationships. In this deeply insightful episode, we tackle this complex subject through the clarifying lens of Scripture, helping you understand when anger serves God's purposes and when it becomes destructive sin.We begin by challenging the common misconception that all anger is sinful. Using God Himself as our perfect example, we explore how righteous anger responds to injustice and evil while sinful anger stems from our selfish desires. From Jesus flipping tables in the temple to Moses confronting idolatry, biblical examples reveal the sharp distinction between anger that honors God and anger that dishonors Him.The most revealing part of our conversation might be our examination of how anger progresses: starting with self-centeredness, building through pride and the need to be right, escalating to uncontrolled emotions, festering as bitterness, and potentially culminating in destructive vengeance. This pattern appears repeatedly in broken relationships, whether between spouses, friends, or family members. We don't just diagnose the problem – we provide seven practical, biblical strategies to transform your relationship with anger. These include acknowledging and understanding your triggers, choosing your words carefully, stepping away from escalating situations, reflecting on root causes, seeking God's help through prayer and Scripture, practicing forgiveness, and remembering your identity in Christ.Perhaps most sobering is Jesus's teaching that equates anger with murder in terms of spiritual consequences. This underscores why mastering our anger isn't optional but essential for Christians seeking to honor God in all aspects of life.Whether you struggle with explosive outbursts or silent, seething resentment, this episode offers biblical wisdom to help you process anger in ways that reflect Christ rather than your fallen nature. Share your experiences with anger in the comments – we'd love to hear how God is working in your life!Thank you for listening! Forgiveness stands as one of Christianity's greatest challenges, yet it remains non-negotiable for believers seeking spiritual maturity and peace. Unforgiveness pollutes our spirit and damages relationships, while forgiveness sets us free from the prison of resentment. When someone hurts us, our natural response is to protect ourselves, seek justice, or even harbor resentment. These emotional reactions create barriers to the healing power of forgiveness. In this vulnerable conversation, Mike shares his painful experience with childhood bullying and the decades of anger that followed, while Luisa discusses a five-year estrangement from her sister that resulted from unforgiveness.Together, they explore seven common obstacles that make forgiveness difficult, but the heart of this episode offers a practical seven-step process for biblical forgiveness. This framework acknowledges that forgiveness is a process rather than a one-time decision.Remember—when Jesus taught us to pray, He included this sobering condition: "If you do not forgive others their sins, your Father will not forgive your sins." The Origins and Evolution of the Association of Biblical Counselors: A Journey of Faith and ResilienceIn this episode of Speak the Truth, Michael, Shauna, and Jeremy discuss the history, growth, and guiding principles of the Association of Biblical Counselors (ABC). The conversation delves into the inception of ABC in 2003, spearheaded by a vision to provide a dedicated association for biblical counseling distinct from existing bodies. Founding member Jeremy elaborates on the early challenges, including a significant moral crisis and the support they received from prominent biblical counselors like David Pawlison and Paul Tripp. The episode highlights pivotal moments such as the 2009 symposium that revitalized ABC, the development of certification programs, and the impact of key figures like John Henderson and Shauna. The guiding principles of ABC—glorifying God, loving others, and upholding the sufficiency of Scripture—are emphasized throughout. The episode concludes with reflections on the evolution of biblical counseling within the church and the growth of ABC's influence and organizational structure, attributing their success to divine faithfulness and communal support.00:00 Introduction to Speak the Truth Podcast00:39 Recap of Made to Minister Conference01:39 Introducing the ABC Miniseries02:23 The Inception of ABC05:18 Early Challenges and Support08:03 Turning Points and Growth13:22 Certification and Local Church Engagement21:53 Evolution of Biblical Counseling24:31 Defining Moments in ABC's History27:02 Conclusion and Gratitude

Closing the Old Testament canon, the book of Malachi delivers God's final prophetic word before 400 years of divine silence. This powerful message confronts a post-exile community whose religious rituals had become mere hollow performances, their hearts drifting far from authentic devotion.Through six striking dialogues, God exposes Israel's spiritual blindness. When He declares His love, they respond with skepticism. When He points out their contemptible sacrifices, they feign ignorance. The priests offer blemished animals unfit even for human governors, while men break covenant by divorcing Jewish wives to marry pagan foreigners. Most brazenly, they withhold tithes and offerings, effectively robbing God Himself. What makes Malachi remarkable is how utterly unaware the people are of their spiritual condition. Each divine accusation is met with the same incredulous response: "How have we done this?" Their inability to recognize their own failings reveals how far they've drifted from understanding God's heart.Yet amid divine rebuke, Malachi offers tremendous hope. In an unprecedented move, God challenges His people to test Him by bringing proper tithes, promising overflowing blessing in return. For the faithful remnant who still fear His name, God promises remembrance and deliverance when "the sun of righteousness will rise with healing in its wings."The prophecy concludes by pointing forward to a messenger who would prepare the way for the Messiah—fulfilled centuries later in John the Baptist announcing Jesus' arrival. This final Old Testament book bridges to the New Testament, reminding us that God's apparent silence is often preparation for His next redemptive act.Join us as we explore how Malachi's ancient message speaks directly to contemporary believers about authentic worship, covenant faithfulness, and living in expectation of Christ's return. Has religious routine replaced heart transformation in your spiritual life? Malachi calls us back to genuine relationship with our unchanging God.Thank you for listening!
