We're joined by Sandra Kesselman-Hardy, a Professional Social Work clinician for almost forty years, to discuss what can be a difficult topic; terminal cancer.Sandra highlights that the effects of cancer are not only physical but emotional, with feelings of fear, anxiety, and grief following diagnosis. We discuss the importance of end-of-life conversations and the many ways support and counselling can help. Doch wie kann so ein traumatisches Ereignis wie der Völkermord von 1994, bei dem innerhalb von 100 Tagen mehr als 800.000 Tutsi und moderate Hutu getötet wurden, verarbeitet werden? Wie kann Versöhnungsarbeit zwischen Opfern und Tätern aussehen und welche Bedeutung kommt dabei der Sozialarbeit zu? Welchen Beitrag leisten Wissenschaft, Forschung und internationale Kooperationen?Im März 2018 fand die internationale Konferenz „Professionelle Soziale Arbeit und nachhaltige Entwicklung in Afrika“ mit rund 500 Delegierten in Ruanda statt. Die Hauptstadt Kigali wurde als Austragungsort gewählt, um die Relevanz der Sozialarbeit für nachhaltige Entwicklung, soziale Gerechtigkeit und die Einhaltung der Menschenrechte sichtbar zu machen. Hören sie Eindrücke von der Konferenz und vom „Sozialen Marsch“, der anlässlich des Weltsozialarbeitstages organisiert wurde. Die Sozialarbeit wurde in Ruanda erst nach dem Genozid eingeführt, mit dem Ziel Überlebende und traumatisierte Menschen professionell zu unterstützen.
