26. mars 2024 I dag har jeg med med Per Magnus Mæhle ved Oslo universitetssykehus som leder sykehuset sitt arbeid inn i en stor EU-satsing på å bygge opp Comprehensive Cancer Centres over hele Europa. Her spiller OUS en nøkkelrolle.

Jeremy Langmead is one of the founders of the global men's e-tailer, Mr Porter, part of the YOOX Net-a-Porter Group. He joined in 2010 to help launch the e-commerce business in 2011 and oversaw the design, branding, content, social, communications and events teams for a number of years.Jeremy has also served as chief content officer at Christie's, launched LUXX magazine for The Times in 2017, and was previously editor-in-chief of Esquire, Wallpaper and the Sunday Times Style magazines.Today Jeremy consults for a number of fashion and grooming brands; writes for The Times Saturday magazine, a grooming column for The Times' LUXX magazine, the Telegraph, and has published a book on male vanity called “Vain Glorious;” and is the co-host of the podcast “How Long Have We Got?” with his friend Sarah Edmundson.   In this episode, Jeremy tells host Anne V Mühlethaler about his tumultuous childhood, filled with numerous stepfathers and a desire to create perfect worlds as a means of escape. Jeremy recounts his early days in fashion, his time at Central St Martin's and the career progression that led him from newspapers and magazines to Mr Porter (and the Mr Porter Post). From his move from the global e-tailer to Christie's and back, he shares the lessons he's learned and the importance of innovation and storytelling in his professional journey. Jeremy candidly shares with Anne his battle with prostate cancer, offering a raw and honest look at the challenges he faced. His diagnosis became a focal point for raising awareness about the importance of early detection in prostate cancer (check your PSAs, he reminds our listeners), which is what led him to write publicly about his experience for the Times and the Saturday Times Magazine. He explains how he met his friend and co-host Sarah and how the two of them decided to start a podcast that tries to “take the kerfuffle out of cancer,” in their own words. Jeremy emphasises the complexities of living (and working) while in treatment, including how his relationship with his body has changed. He and Anne discuss how we can harness the power of storytelling to support patients in their health journeys and the crucial importance of cancer literacy.Throughout the discussion, Jeremy talks about the intersection of vanity and authenticity, particularly as a gay man in the fashion world. He shares stories with Anne about his own experiences with male grooming (from hair transplant to eyelash dying) and explores the societal perceptions of vanity, encouraging men to embrace their desires to look and feel good without shame. While the topic of the episode is serious at times, Jeremy shares his story with humour, tact and warmth, understanding the significant influence that the podcast has on the cancer community and those close to someone living with the illness.   By sharing his story, Jeremy not only raises awareness for early testing in prostate cancer, but also offers inspiration to listeners to find beauty and meaning in their journeys, regardless of the obstacles they may face.An inspiring conversation that shows how humour, resilience and storytelling go hand in hand.Selected links from episode:Out of the Clouds website: https://outoftheclouds.com/Out of the Clouds on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/_outofthecloudsThe Mettā View website: https://avm.consulting/metta-viewAnne on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/annvi/Anne on Threads: https://www.threads.net/@annviAnne on LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/anne-v-muhlethaler/Jeremy on LinkedIn: https://uk.linkedin.com/in/jeremylangmeadJeremy on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/jeremylangmead/Jeremy and Sarah's podcast How Long Have You GotHow Long Have You Got on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/howlonghaveyougot2024/Jeremy's first article for the TimesJeremy's follow up article about the podcast with Sarah EdmundsonDeath Dula Alua Arthur's TED talkMacMillan Cancer Support Breast Cancer Support NowWhat song best represents him : Pet Shop Boys ‘It's a sin' and ‘being boring' Here you can find the Out of the Clouds playlist containing the songs chosen by the guests who answered the question: ‘What Song Best Represents You?' Favorite books Truman Capote's In Cold Blood and Bruce Chatwin's What Am I Doing Here?  Cancer Centre at Guy's Hospital***Are you curious about Anne's Coaching & Consulting:Feeling lost or burnt out? Listen to the personal stories and reflections of Alex, Mel and Luke - three young people who are currently being treated for cancer or who recently completed cancer treatment - as they share their unique perspectives in this experimental podcast produced by DOMES FM in collaboration with The Clatterbridge Cancer Centre's Teenage and Young Adult Service. In 2022, FACT began a new partnership with The Clatterbridge Cancer Centre led by FACT's learning team. This collaboration invites artists to work with young people and staff at The Clatterbridge Cancer Centre to create artworks that delve into contemporary issues and draw from lived experiences. The initial outcome of this collaboration is a dynamic podcast created by three young participants – Alex, Mel, and Luke – along with artists from Domes FM, namely Tom Lye and Maeve Devine. Domes FM is a vibrant art and dance radio station housed at Bidston Observatory Artistic Research Centre in Prenton, Wirral. Through a series of workshops, Tom and Maeve introduced their artistic approach centred on facilitating rest, promoting active listening, and exploring innovative sound techniques. This allowed the participants to shed their preconceptions of what a podcast might be and to embrace the techniques found in experimental sound art.The participants discovered that this fresh approach created a different kind of space, providing a unique platform for them to share their stories. As they experimented with DJing, Ableton, sound and field recording, and interview techniques, Alex, Mel and Luke steered conversations on their own terms and discussed topics that were important to them.As you tune in, you'll encounter a fusion of distorted sounds from the ward interwoven with the voices of the young people. They capture candid conversations during routine procedures like blood pressure checks, reflect on experiences such as finding the right hair salon to shave your head, and recount poignant moments, including their involvement in outdoor charity events. The podcast concludes with an energetic segment showcasing their newfound DJ and audio skills with a catchy remixed bop about Crocs! This podcast served as an opportunity for participants to immerse themselves in artistic and creative practices while also sharing personal stories and exchanging experiences. It underscores the significance of storytelling in relation to wellbeing and provides a new space for Alex, Mel, and Luke to share their unique perspectives on their own terms. The Clatterbridge Cancer Centre Arts in Health programme offers a range of creative activities and performances for patients as well as a collection of artwork to enhance the environment of their centres. In this episode, Dr Natalie Lancer talks to Dr Andrew Marren, Natalie Silverdale and Dr Andrew Parsons. Natalie Silverdale and Dr Andrew Parsons are part of the team behind the pioneering concept of coaching cancer patients at The Fountain Centre, a cancer charity located at St Luke's Cancer Centre at the Royal Surrey Hospital. Dr Andrew Marren researched the ‘therapeutic coaching' happening at the Fountain Centre for his doctorate. We discuss: How did the coaching service at The Fountain Centre get started? How does coaching support cancer patients? How does coaching fit into other holistic and emotional services offered to patients? How is the coaching delivered and in what format? How did The Fountain Centre develop a framework of standards and ethics for coaching cancer patients? How does the coaches' learning and development inform the coaching services offered to patients? What are the key research findings from the patients' and coaches' perspective? What does The Fountain Centre look for in volunteer coaches? How do supervision and self-care practices support the volunteer coaches? How might ‘therapeutic coaching' fit into existing National Institute for Clinical Excellence (NICE) guidance on Cancer Services? The case study of The Fountain Centre demonstrates how coaching is a service that can be offered in addition to counselling and other forms of support. The impact of this service has been recognised by NHS England who are using the approach to develop National Standards for coaching in cancer. In this conversation, we discuss how as well as improving palliative care for people with cancer, coaching in hospitals may well benefit other patients. Our guests today are: Dr Andrew Marren undertook his PhD at the University of Portsmouth as a collaborative project with The Fountain Centre cancer charity. The PhD focused on exploring the impact of coaching cancer patients, from both the coaches' and patients' perspectives. He previously completed an ILM Level 3 Certificate in Coaching and Mentoring and an MSc in Work Psychology. He worked on a coaching project at University of South Wales, exploring the training needs of academic staff. He is currently employed at the University of Winchester as a Lecturer in Psychology and researches coaching in cancer care, advocating for coaching as an emotional support intervention. Natalie Silverdale has been working in the field of cancer and end of life care for over 25 years. Since 2015, she has worked for The Fountain Centre. She is a qualified coach in the Centre and Head of Research and Development. She has worked extensively in palliative care services, undertaking a national evaluation of the Marie Curie Nursing Service, working as Head of Research and Policy for the Dignity in Dying and working as researcher on Lord Joel Joffe's Assisted Dying for the Terminally Ill Bill that was subject to a House of Lords Select Committee in 2004/5.  Dr Andrew Parsons is an Accredited Master Coach and Certified Wellness Practitioner with speciality in Psychology, Neuroscience and Physiology.  He is an experienced holistic therapist and registered with the Complementary and Natural Healthcare Council (Hypnotherapy). He was the founding coach at The Fountain Centre. He is a member of the National Wellness Institute's multi-cultural competency committee and the Chair of the EMCC UK Health and Wellbeing special interest group. He has over 100 peer reviewed scientific publications and has co-authored, Empowerment in Health and Wellness. Your host, Dr Natalie Lancer, is a Chartered Coaching Psychologist, and British Psychological Society (BPS) Registered Supervisor. She is the Chair of the BPS's Division of Coaching Psychology and an accredited member of the Association for Coaching. Mr Naji specialises in early detection of pre-cancerous conditions and is an international expert in advanced gynaecological scanning, contributing significantly to scientific research in women's gynaecological health. In this episode, the experts discuss the complexity and influence of the menstrual cycle, bleeding on HRT and when it should be investigated further, and the safety of HRT with regard to gynaecological cancers. Mr Naji's three take home messages are: The workforce of women is needed now more than ever, therefore we must invest in women's health and wellbeing and paramount to this is education about HRT. Endometrial cancer is on the rise but can usually be detected at an early stage and treated very effectively through raising awareness, identifying the causes, managing risk factors and engaging and empowering the patient. HRT is the very last item on the list of risk factors for endometrial cancer, therefore believe and trust the patient on whether the bleeding is abnormal for them and work through the management process using a shared decision-making approach. Health Check Ep 58: Picking an IP insurer with a good panel of doctors 20:35 mins Synopsis: This is a fortnightly podcast series on Wednesdays by The Straits Times that aims to help you make sense of health matters that affect you.   Many private sector doctors are upset with Integrated Shield plan insurers for maintaining panels of doctors that they call “highly exclusive”. These panels are one of the measures that IP insurers have undertaken in order to reduce their costs, but doctors say that the IP sector created their own problem and should not penalise them for it. Doctors have failed to get on the panel, even though they adhere to the fee benchmarks published by the Ministry of Health.  In this episode, ST senior health correspondent Joyce Teo speaks with Dr Wong Seng Weng, the medical director and consultant medical oncologist at The Cancer Centre, who sits on several IP panels. He shares some tips on how one can go about picking the IP insurer with a good and reasonable panel of doctors. They discuss the following points: Dr Wong's own experience of being selected for such panels (1:30) Why seeing a "non-panel" doctor could hit your pocket more now (7:00) What are correct clinical quality measures? (9:08) How can policy holders tell if the panel provided by an IP insurer is good (11:20) Produced by: Joyce Teo (joyceteo@sph.com.sg), Penelope Lee and Ernest Luis  Edited by: Penelope Lee & Aleemah Basirah Subscribe to Health Check Podcast channel, hear the latest episodes fortnightly on Wednesdays and rate us on your favourite audio apps: Channel: https://str.sg/JWaN Apple Podcasts: https://str.sg/JWRX Spotify: https://str.sg/JWaQ Google Podcasts: https://str.sg/J6Wv  Website: http://str.sg/stpodcasts Feedback to: podcast@sph.com.sg Read Joyce Teo's stories: https://str.sg/JbxN --- Discover more ST podcast series: Asian Insider Podcast: https://str.sg/JWa7 Green Pulse Podcast: https://str.sg/JWaf ST Sports Talk Podcast: https://str.sg/JWRE Life Weekend Picks Podcast: https://str.sg/JWa2 #PopVultures Podcast: https://str.sg/JWad Bookmark This!
