On episode 39, we are joined by Winnipeg based, chamber-folk musician Raine Hamilton to talk about their album Brave Land, released on January 21st, 2022.We discuss the creation of the album, performing a song in latin, creating the album artwork with good friend Sarah Thiessen & Roberta Landreth. We also talk about the creation of the incredible shadow puppet music video for their song Eclipse. We also touch on accessibility in the live music space. Raine is a believer that music is for everyone, and that we all have something to share, they offer workshops in songwriting and fiddle-tune writing, and offers concerts with American Sign Language (ASL) interpretation, to help make live music and the community that comes with it more accessible to the Deaf community.Raine's website: https://www.rainehamilton.com/Eclipse music video: https://youtu.be/u7ps_kEHwFQVideo Version of the episode: https://youtu.be/UtghgjAoME4Release Day Website: https://www.releasedayseries.com/"Release Day," an ongoing series where we sit down with Canadian musicians of all genres to discuss their latest releases from singles to albums, and their strategy behind releasing it to the world.https://releasedayseries.com/https://twitter.com/ReleasedaySrshttps://www.instagram.com/releaseday_series/

Raine Hamilton (they/them) joins us on Episode 619 of Folk Roots Radio to chat about their new concept album "Brave Land", a chamber-folk recording that speaks to both courage and wisdom, inspired by a deep connection to the earth through the mountainous landscapes they have encountered while out on the road. We wrap up the rest of the episode with new releases from Sarah Jarosz, Billy Strings, Malcolm McWatt, Old Blind Dogs, Over The Moon, Eliza Gilkyson and Rhiannon Giddens (with Francesco Turrisi). It's a quick conversation in a mall food court this week with singer-songwriter [Raine Hamilton](http://www.rainehamilton.com/), right on time for this weekend's release of "Night Sky", her fantastic new record of lush, ethereal chamber-folk ballads with cosmic overtones. We talk about the new record -- which, honestly, is at the top of my list for best local albums in this relatively young 2018 -- and this Saturday's release show, Raine's interest in including sign-language interpreters into the way her music is presented, her (at times) bilingual lyrics, and much more! Our original plan may have fallen through, but we still came out of Kerry, MB, with a solid podcast from Shine On Festival of Music and Art. Initially, we were supposed to be presenting a live podcast on the side stage -- similar to what we've done at the Handsome Daughter in the past -- on Saturday morning at the festival. For a variety of reasons -- everything from guests still being asleep to hornets besieging the stage -- that didn't quite work out. Instead, we got some excellent field recording-style interviews (literally in a field) with Shine On performers such as None the Wiser's Eli Matas, Micah Erenberg, and Roger Roger ...not to mention a backstage interview and rehearsal recording of Raine Hamilton and her string quartet.
