We see Jesus' astounding authority over nature, demons, illness, and death through three dramatic events. First, He calms a storm on the Sea of Galilee, astonishing His disciples. Next, He frees a demon-possessed man in the Gerasenes, demonstrating His power over evil spirits. Finally, Jesus heals a woman suffering from a bleeding disorder and raises Jairus's daughter from the dead, showcasing His compassion and divine power. The Rev. Scott MacDonald, pastor of St. John Lutheran Church in Meridian, CT, joins the Rev. Dr. Phil Booe to study Luke 8:22-56. The Gospel of Luke, filled with rich narratives and detailed accounts, offers an inspired and historical perspective on the life and teachings of Jesus. Emphasizing Jesus' concern for the poor, outcasts, and social justice, this Gospel narrates parables and miracles that underscore the theme of God's salvation for all people. Luke's account is unique in its inclusion of the birth of John the Baptist, the parable of the Good Samaritan, and the story of the Prodigal Son, culminating in a vivid portrayal of Jesus' death and resurrection, affirming the universal offer of redemption. This Gospel serves as an invitation to understand the depth of God's love and the breadth of His grace extended to humanity through the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus.

Arcwelder - "Lafayette" from the 2024 self-released album Continue Minneapolis trio Arcwelder return with their first new album in 24 years. During their '90s heyday, they released six albums on Touch & Go and Big Money Records before their double-decade hiatus. Their latest LP was mixed by J. Robbins of Jawbox, Burning Airlines, and Government Issue. And it's all too appropriate that "Lafayette" is today's Song of the Day, as the band say the track is drummer/vocalist Scott Macdonald's tribute to "music, radio stations, and the childhood radio that delivered it all to him." Hey everyone, it's Chris Horder here, but you might know me as Chuck LaFlange from the Ashes to Awesome podcast. We dive deep into the realities of addiction and trauma, something I know all too well. I'm celebrating a huge personal victory – a year of sobriety as of October 21, 2023! I've got some exciting news to share: I've been given an incredible opportunity for healing therapy at the Yatra Center in beautiful Phuket, Thailand. This isn't just a chance for personal growth; it's also a strategic move to keep the podcast thriving in a more cost-effective location. My family has been amazing, covering my travel expenses, but I'm still facing a financial shortfall. The podcast does bring in some sponsorship funds, but it's not quite enough to cover everything. The Yatra Center is kindly covering my first month's stay in Thailand, but beyond that, my financial future is a bit up in the air. This is where I need your help. I'm reaching out to our incredible community for support. Any contribution you can make will go a long way. As a token of my gratitude, I'll give a special shoutout to you on my podcast. If addiction has touched your life, we can also share a story in honor of your loved one. Whether it's a modest $5, a generous $25, or if you're able to contribute $100, your donation can make a significant difference in my journey. Join me in this chapter of healing and transformation. You can watch this sermon on our YouTube channel here. John 17: 1-26 (ESV) The High Priestly Prayer When Jesus had spoken these words, he lifted up his eyes to heaven, and said, “Father, the hour has come; glorify your Son that the Son may glorify you, since you have given him authority over all flesh, to give eternal life to all whom you have given him. And this is eternal life, that they know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom you have sent. I glorified you on earth, having accomplished the work that you gave me to do.And now, Father, glorify me in your own presence with the glory that I had with you before the world existed. “I have manifested your name to the people whom you gave me out of the world. Yours they were, and you gave them to me, and they have kept your word. Now they know that everything that you have given me is from you. For I have given them the words that you gave me, and they have received them and have come to know in truth that I came from you; and they have believed that you sent me. I am praying for them. I am not praying for the world but for those whom you have given me, for they are yours. All mine are yours, and yours are mine, and I am glorified in them. And I am no longer in the world, but they are in the world, and I am coming to you. Holy Father, keep them in your name, which you have given me, that they may be one, even as we are one. While I was with them, I kept them in your name, which you have given me. I have guarded them, and not one of them has been lost except the son of destruction, that the Scripture might be fulfilled. But now I am coming to you, and these things I speak in the world, that they may have my joy fulfilled in themselves. I have given them your word, and the world has hated them because they are not of the world, just as I am not of the world. I do not ask that you take them out of the world, but that you keep them from the evil one. They are not of the world, just as I am not of the world. Sanctify them in the truth; your word is truth. As you sent me into the world, so I have sent them into the world. And for their sake I consecrate myself, that they also may be sanctified in truth. “I do not ask for these only, but also for those who will believe in me through their word, that they may all be one, just as you, Father, are in me, and I in you, that they also may be in us, so that the world may believe that you have sent me. The glory that you have given me I have given to them, that they may be one even as we are one,I in them and you in me, that they may become perfectly one, so that the world may know that you sent me and loved them even as you loved me. Father, I desire that they also, whom you have given me, may be with me where I am, to see my glory that you have given me because you loved me before the foundation of the world. O righteous Father, even though the world does not know you, I know you, and these know that you have sent me. I made known to them your name, and I will continue to make it known, that the love with which you have loved me may be in them, and I in them.”

I am Tosk!" Scott MacDonald's Star Trek Career, Part 1 Scott MacDonald has had some of the most substantial guest star roles throughout Star Trek, all while playing aliens covered from head to toe in makeup and prosthetics. Even more peculiar, Scott's first two Star Trek roles practically aired back to back when they first ran on television, an extremely rare thing to happen even today! We discuss his first role in Trek (and on TV) as Tosk in the first season Star Trek DS9 episode "Captive Pursuit," and he followed that up by playing a Romulan named N'Vek in the sixth season TNG episode "Face of the Enemy." After that, he played Gowron's brother in the "Star Trek: Klingon" PC game, directed by Jonathan Frakes and working alongside Robert O'Reilly! Scott gives us some of the most in-depth behind-the-scenes Star Trek stories ever to tell us about the horrors of his makeup routine as Tosk, including contacts that caused searing pain to his eyes, the special things he asked of the writers as that character, gearing up to be a Romulan while still wearing his Tosk makeup, why N'Vek was supposed to be a recurring character in TNG and what stopped that from happening, performing with Colm Meaney, Marina Sirtis, Carolyn Seymour, and the mayhem of working on the Klingon PC game. Plus, the ties between Star Trek and Shakespeare, the incredibly long and arduous audition process to land the Tosk role, a surreal encounter with Patrick Stewart, and another even more odd moment with Richard Gere, the six-hour epic play "The Kentucky Cycle," the way he understands his alien characters inside and out, stories from "Three Ninjas Knuckle Up," a hilarious story from Charles Napier about William Shatner, and much more. Come back next week for part two to learn about his time on the pilot of Voyager, his second DS9 appearance in "Hippocratic Oath" as the Jem'hadar named Goran'Agar, and his final role in multiple episodes from Enterprise as the evil Xindi Commander Dolim. Scott MacDonald is a returning Quiet Warrior o talk about An Ancestral Journey he embarked on, culminating in a fascinating reveal... more than just facts, he shares how one can begin exploring their Ancestry based on his discovery. His newest book is the culmination of many years of ancestry research. Published this month by Ingram, Legacy, An Ancestral Journey through American History marries ancestry with early American history. The ancestors participated in virtually every significant event in America, including Jamestown, the Mayflower, and various wars and conflicts. The book presents history through the eyes of actual participants in the events. Ancestry research is believed to be the second most popular hobby in North America (after gardening). As far as Scott knows, no other ancestry-based book that connects ancestry research to history has been written or published. Visit Scott's website, authorscottmacdonald.com.

Rev. Scott MacDonald, pastor of St. John Lutheran Church in Meridian, CT, joins the Rev. Dr. Phil Booe to study Romans 3:21-31. In this second half of chapter 3, the Apostle Paul clarifies that all people — Jew and Gentile — “have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God.” (v. 23) What is God's answer to this predicament? The long-promised Savior, Jesus Christ! God the Father sent his only Son to be a sacrifice to atone for the sins of the entire world. Righteousness then comes from faith in Jesus. This isn't a new teaching, even the Law and the Prophets testify to it. What does this mean for the Jew or the Gentile? Can one boast because in how well they keep the Law or in what a good person they are? Paul says no! All people are “justified by faith apart from works of the law.” (v. 28)
