SPRINTS are a four-piece garage-noise band based out of Dublin, Ireland. They are made up of Karla Chubb on vocals, Sam McCann on bass, Colm O'Reilly on guitar and Jack Callan on drums. The band is pretty new, having formed in late 2019. Just in time to get a few shows and songs out before the global pandemic hit. However, what is very interesting about these guys is that in that short time they gained quite a bit of notoriety, getting radio play on the UK's BBC radio 6 and 1 and having write ups in publications such as NME and Hot Press Music. Their music combines guitar-driven hooks, motoric rhythm and emotive lyrics to create a sound that is pretty unique drawing inspiration from the garage, grunge and punk genres. They released their debut EP Manifesto in March of this year and are looking to sign with a label and get a full-length album out as soon as they can. I caught up with vocalist, Karla and bassist, Sam via zoom to talk about the forming of the band, how they have been navigating being a new band during a pandemic and what is coming up next for them. Here's my chat with Karla and Sam of Sprints. Recently, IFI’s own David Smith joined Christian conservative talk radio host, Stephanie Trussell, for her weekly show on WLS -AM 890. With the upcoming midterm election, they certainly had much to cover! Their conversation explores the inexplicable betrayal of incumbent State Representative Tom Morrison by the “Conservative” Party gubernatorial candidate, Sam McCann, and the ongoing attacks McCann is waging on other solidly conservative, Republican candidates. (See Illinois Review for more information.) Stephanie and David also address the midterm elections and the importance of an informed electorate who vote in accordance with their values and faith.… Continue Reading

In response to the uproar generated by his utterly deceitful union-subsidized mailers, gubernatorial candidate Sam McCann tweeted that “all” he did was say that State Representative Tom Morrison “supports Rauner.” Unbelievable. McCann lied again. He did not merely say Morrison “supports Rauner.” He accused Morrison of being a “Republican in Name Only” (RINO) and did so in mailers in Morrison’s district in the midst of a difficult re-election campaign. Then No-Shot McCann posted this on his “McCann for Gov” Facebook page… READ MORE… Continue Reading
Why is IL Conservative Party candidate for governor, State Sen. Sam McCann, sending out mailers attacking conservative legislators? Is McCann doing Madigan’s bidding trying to take out suburban Republicans? Does he want another Madigan supermajority? Does he still have a path to victory? Candidate for governor, Sam McCann joins Dan and Amy to discuss.
The candidates for Illinois governor have been so busy attacking each other that WBEZ wanted to make sure you — the voter — know what they actually stand for. We asked all four candidates — Republican Gov. Bruce Rauner, Democrat J.B. Pritzker, the Conservative Party’s Sam McCann, and Libertarian Kash Jackson — to complete a policy questionnaire. In this week’s On Background, we look at the candidates’ answers, or lack thereof. Check out each candidate’s complete questionnaire response here (with the exception of Gov. Bruce Rauner, who did not fill one out.)
State Sen. Sam McCann, Conservative Party gubernatorial candidate, had some strong words for Gov. Rauner including calling him a failed governor and liar. How is it that Rauner claims he is a Madigan plant? Would he be in the race if weren't for Rauner’s social agenda? How much money has he spent on his race? What are his opinions on the Janus decision? Sen. McCann joins Dan and Amy to discuss the IL gubernatorial debate.
The fight between Republican Gov. Bruce Rauner and Democrat J.B. Pritzker to be Illinois’ next governor is getting personal. When they met in the first debate of the campaign on Thursday, Rauner said Pritzker lacked the character to hold public office. Pritzker retaliated by saying everything Rauner lists as accomplishments happened in spite of him, not because of him. State Sen. Sam McCann and Kash Jackson are also on the November ballot.Host Becky Vevea talks with WBEZ's Tony Arnold about what happened at the first debate. Each week at On Background, WBEZ’s team of political reporters brings you the backstory on the week's big story. Host Becky Vevea and guests take you inside the back rooms of Chicago and Illinois government to better understand the people, places and forces shaping today’s politics.
With the July 4 holiday, it's a light-news week in Illinois government. Still, we learned that state Sen. Sam McCann's petitions to run for governor were not challenged, which means he, along with Gov. Bruce Rauner, J.B. Pritzker and Libertarian Kash Jackson will all be running for governor. Also, we talk about Rauner's recent trip to Champaign-Urbana to make up for unflattering comments he recently made about the region.
We're one day removed from the U.S. Supreme Court's big Janus vs. AFSCME decision that will have far-reaching consequences for unions in Illinois and beyond. Bernie, Doug and Angie break down the ruling. They also mention Sam McCann filing for governor as a third-party candidate and Joe Biden planning a trip to Springfield.
We gave Sam an orange wig to perform in, representing the last time being referred to as the Aussie Ed Sheeran. We also chat and he performs live as we run on the Treadmill for the entire radio show.
1. Harry gets on the Treadmill 2. Brayden swaps with Harry on the Treadmill. 3. We chat with Rob who is doing the entire 24 hour Suicide prevention treadmill challenge. 4. We get someone from outside to take over our treadmill. 5. We give SAM MCCANN an orange wig for the last time being represented as Ed Sheeran. 6. High or Low on the Treadmill 7. We check in with Rob who's still tread milling by himself. 8. Matt Barber our sound technician shaves Brayden's mo. 9. Harry completes the 2 hours on the treadmill.
State Sen. Sam McCann has drawn the ire of Republicans for deciding to run for governor as a third-party candidate. Now, he's suing the GOP for cutting off his access to services normally provided to state senators. We also talk about plans to rebuild the Illinois Veterans Home in Quincy, which has been plagued with outbreaks of Legionnaires' disease. Plus, will a state budget be approved on time this year?
There's a big showdown expected at the Capitol on Wednesday, April 25, 2018, as legislators decide whether to override Gov. Bruce Rauner's veto of a gun shop licensing bill, all while thousands of gun supporters converge on Springfield for their annual gun rights lobbying day. The Under the Dome crew discusses this topic — along with Michael Madigan's re-election as Illinois Democratic Party chairman, marijuana legalization and Sam McCann's entry into the governor's race — on this week's episode of the podcast.
