In this episode of Velo's Tour de France Podcast, Mike Levy and Pete Cossins dig into stages 11–13 of the 2025 Tour and what really goes on during a so-called “rest day.” Pete explains how riders still spend hours on the bike, tending to injuries, staying sharp, and preparing their bodies for what's next. Stage 11 was shaped by an audacious breakaway from kilometer zero, with Jonas Abrahamsen (Uno-X) ultimately outsprinting Mauro Schmid to take his and his team's first Tour stage win—just four weeks after breaking his collarbone. The stage also featured a nasty crash for Pogačar and a wild spectator incident. Stage 12 delivered fireworks on the legendary Hautacam climb. Pogačar attacked solo after Adam Yates and teammates set things up perfectly, putting over two minutes into Vingegaard. It was a statement win—his 20th Tour de France stage victory—leaving many wondering if the GC race is effectively over. Stage 13's short, brutal mountain time trial saw Pogačar extend his lead yet again, winning his 21st career stage and sixth consecutive mountain finish. The hosts preview Stage 14's massive climbing day and ponder whether Pogi's dominance will crack—or if Vingegaard has any path back into yellow. On a June morning, Air India flight AI171 lifted off from Ahmedabad, bound for London. The aircraft was a Boeing 787 Dreamliner — among the most advanced long-haul jets in service. But less than a minute after takeoff, the plane crashed. Two hundred and sixty people were killed. Only one survived. It was India's deadliest air disaster in nearly three decades. Now, a preliminary investigation points to a chilling cause: fuel to both engines was cut off just after takeoff. The engines lost thrust. The plane had neither the altitude nor the time to recover. What happened in those final seconds? Was it a technical failure or human error? The Founder and President of the Affordable Skies Coalition gives travelers a voice in the future of air travel. In the news, the Indian Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau released its preliminary report on the Air India Flight AI171 crash, DARPA ended the cargo seaplane program, the boom on a KC-46 Tanker broke off while refueling an F-22, and releases of toxic firefighting foam remain a problem. Guest Jennifer C. Rykaczewski Jennifer C. Rykaczewski is the Founder and President of the Affordable Skies Coalition, a nonprofit founded in December 2024 to give travelers a voice in the future of air travel. It's an advocacy group dedicated to promoting policies that encourage competition, reduce costs, and protect the right to safe, affordable air travel. The Coalition is a growing community that shares insights, strategies, and resources to empower the traveler. Their work centers on ensuring air travel remains safe and affordable, while giving Americans, especially those often overlooked in policy and industry conversations, a chance to weigh in on the decisions shaping the future of flying. Jennifer explains how the Affordable Skies Coalition is advocating on the Hill and getting agreement that there is a need for a consumer advocacy group. We look at legislation such as the Airport Gate Competition Act and the Fast Lane for Youths (FLY) Act. The Affordable Skies Coalition offers a free membership option that includes a newsletter featuring industry updates, air traveler information, and opportunities to participate in petitions, surveys, and focus groups. A paid premium membership option adds live webinars and exclusive data reports. Jennifer developed a passion for aviation after meeting her now-husband, who owned a Cessna 182. They flew across the country and all around the East Coast together. He's an A-10 pilot in the Air Force. Over time, aviation has become an integral part of Jennifer's life. DARPA ends cargo seaplane program, eyes new uses for tech The Liberty Lifter was intended to be a long-range, low-cost, heavy cargo seaplane. The wing-in-ground-effect plane was planned with a capacity comparable to that of a C-17 Globemaster. It would have been capable of operating at mid-altitudes of up to 10,000 feet. Aurora Flight Sciences said, “Through the Liberty Lifter program, we were able to show the viability of the design and the feasibility of novel manufacturing techniques. Aurora is proud of the technical advancements we made through the preliminary design of Liberty Lifter, and we expect to apply these learnings to future programs.” DARPA awarded contracts in February 2023 to two contractors to develop their own plans. General Atomics Aeronautical Systems (GA-ASI) partnered with Maritime Applied Physics Corporation to design a twin-hull, mid-wing aircraft powered by twelve turboshaft engines. Boeing subsidiary Aurora Flight Sciences partnered with Leidos subsidiary Gibbs & Cox and with Oregon shipyard ReconCraft and designed a high-wing monohull with eight turbine engines. Managed service providers (MSPs) are increasingly becoming essential partners for mid-market organizations, with a recent Barracuda Networks survey revealing that 85% of firms with 1,000 to 2,000 employees now depend on MSPs for integrated security support. This shift highlights the growing complexity of cybersecurity challenges that these organizations face, as they seek to manage a multitude of disconnected security tools. The survey indicates a willingness among 92% of organizations to pay a premium for enhanced support, emphasizing the need for MSPs to demonstrate technical mastery and deliver ongoing value. The podcast discusses the implications of this trend, noting that while MSPs may feel indispensable, they are also facing pressure from vendors who are building direct relationships with mid-market clients. The demand for 24/7 security coverage and transparency about security practices is high, with many organizations willing to switch providers if their needs are not met. This creates a challenging environment for MSPs, who must evolve from being mere resellers of security tools to becoming orchestrators of comprehensive security outcomes.Additionally, the episode covers the ongoing licensing disputes between Siemens and Broadcom following Broadcom's acquisition of VMware. The shift from perpetual licenses to subscription models has led to significant price increases, causing frustration among enterprise customers. As organizations like Siemens seek alternatives, the podcast highlights the growing market for VMware exit planning and license optimization services, presenting opportunities for IT providers to assist clients in navigating these challenges. Finally, the discussion touches on broader trends in software licensing and the rise of open-source solutions as enterprises grapple with compliance issues. The increasing use of unapproved AI tools, known as Shadow AI, among employees poses additional risks, prompting IT leaders to seek trusted partners who can help them manage these complexities. The episode concludes by emphasizing the need for MSPs to pivot from reactive approaches to strategic advisory roles, guiding clients through the evolving landscape of technology and security. Fuel control switches for the engines of an Air India flight that crashed last month were moved to the cutoff position seconds after takeoff, a preliminary report said over the weekend. Greg and Holly discuss.
The Tasman district remains in a state of emergency after Friday's devastating floods, leaving residents cut off for the second time in successive weeks. Some roads remain treacherous, while water is still out in some settlements. Six schools and early childcare centres were closed today in what was supposed to be the start of term three, and some residents are still unable to return home, having to make do without clean clothes or even fresh water. Ellen O'Dwyer reports.
A preliminary report on the Air India crash that killed 260 people in June has found that both fuel control switches were in the cut-off position - a step that turns off the engines - moments before the plane crashed in Ahmedabad. In Romans 11:22 some think that the Apostle Paul is warning that if an individual believer does not continue to live in God's goodness, but abusees that privilege, that believer will bt "cut off" or lose their salvation. That view, however, neglects the context. Paul is not addressing individuals, but the fate of two different peoples: The Jews and the Gentiles. The Jews are the natural branches that were broken off by the Lord because of their unbelief in the Messiah. God then turned to the Gentiles and when they believed, be grafted in these unnatural branches to enjoy the blessings given to the Jews. However, Paul warns, if the Gentiles do not continue in faithfulness to God's goodness, they can also be broken off from the blessings. This message is not a message to individual believers about losing their salvation. It is a warning to Gentiles as a group to not neglect the grace of God given to them in the gospel. #EternalSecurity #SimplyByGrace #GraceLifeMinistries

This Sunday we come to a famous passage: the Vine & the branches. As is often the case with familiar imagery, at some point we stop hearing the idea and only hear the reference. But Jesus intended this image to hit with fresh force - both as an encouragement and a warning. And if you've ever visited a vineyard in Napa, especially when they are pruning, there is something intentionally graphic here. He means to grab our attention. But Jesus never resorts to clickbait. His agenda is our full joy in him. What has so threatened our joy that Jesus sounds almost like a modern streetcorner preacher? And how can the violence of a knife produce fruit? Let's talk about the severe mercy of the vinedresser's knife: "Cut Off" John 15:1-8

By adjusting D-dimer thresholds based on patient age, the study found a safe and reliable method to rule out DVT without reliance on additional imaging.
