In this episode, which is the 36th in David´s CALM leadership series he talks about candour - radical candour and why as a leader it is essential. David starts by asking you to work out the consequences of not being completely honest at home, at work, with your colleagues, family, and friends. He explains why ducking the issue because you are afraid to be candid, to be 100% honest, is rarely a good idea. Then, teaches you how to say what you mean and be honest without being nasty. KEY TAKEAWAYS Understand what the consequences of your choosing not to say what you mean are. Your body language shows people you are being dishonest, and they won´t trust you. You only have to lie to someone once for them to not trust you moving forward. It is possible to be clear, without being nasty. You need to care personally and make it obvious that you feel that way. If you don´t know how to do that, don´t worry it is a skill anyone can learn. Praising someone you don´t like, does not feel like praise to them. Build rapport, before giving feedback. Ruinous empathy means you don´t say anything when you should, which can be even more damaging than obnoxious aggression. Giving empty praise, backhanded compliments and being two-faced about someone is manipulative insincerity. BEST MOMENTS ‘This is about being clear and not nasty.' ‘Obnoxious aggression is where you challenge somebody directly, but you don't care personally.' ‘Caring personally is a cultural thing.' ‘The returns can be huge, the time you save is massive.' After my Friday thank-you's and shout-outs, we dive into the first topic of the day. We love turning our attention to Tara Bull and her Top 10 list of subjects the Legacy/mainstream media likely didn't tell you about in the past week. So many of you have reached out to tell me how much you enjoy that, so make sure you follow her today. Victor Davis Hanson recently penned a piece called, “Is the Great Illusion in Ruins?” It goes along with what we've been documenting through the Biden regime. All of the levers of our current society and our country have been overwhelmed to the point of both collapse and total failure. Shouldn't that be the indication the elite have no real idea how the country works or how freedom and liberty are best fostered? All the endeavors the radical progressive Left have been wanting to push have been implemented. I would argue this is as close as they have come to installing their fundamentally transformed government. Yet, look how ruinous it has been over the last three and a half years. Any objective observer can see the policies that seemed so perfect in their world of make-believe, crumble when tried in the real world. We then move to the troubles that continue to mount for the Big Fani Willis RICO case in Georgia. Harrison Floyd is only one thorn in her side, given he says she illegally recorded a phone call with his attorney. Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH) is pushing hard for responses to his oversight committee. Plus, the DOJ is now having to look into how federal grant money was spent by her office versus what was on the application. This goes back to the whistleblower who brought those issues up to Willis. Rather than address the problems, Willis fired the employee. The Legacy/mainstream media, in desperation to help Biden and take the attention off of every failure is doing all they can to revamp the 2020 summer of love. A headline from Chicago reads, “Police fire 96 shots in 41 seconds, killing Black man during traffic stop.” They want BLM/Antifa riots to break out all over again. The problem with that story is the one fact they intentionally leave out. The black man who has been in and out of jail for years, was the one who opened fire first. He unloaded his entire magazine, 11 shots, before the police had no choice but to return fire and eliminate the threat to themselves and innocent civilians. We have a little more from the woman who hugged Donald Trump on his campaign stop at a Chick-fil-A in Atlanta, GA. Michaelah Montgomery was asked to expand on why she told Trump to not listen to the media and to know that they all supported him? She explained how she sees how the media tries to distort and manipulate their audience. She wanted her students to observer first-hand. So they same propagandist media tried to create a divide, saying she and the students were simply paid to say nice things because Trump bought everyone chicken sandwiches and milk shakes. The soft bigotry of low expectation is the most sinister bigotry of all. Another example of a classic liberal coming to her senses comes from the opinion editor for Newsweek, Batya Ungar-Sargon. She literally said, “If you told me 10 years ago that it would be the Right protecting women's sports and the Left selling women out, I would not have believed you! Just 17% of Americans believe trans athletes should be allowed to compete against women and girls -- why are the Democrats defending this?” BBC host of Talk TV, Julia Hartley-Brewer, illustrated how to deal with those suffering from pronoun issues and other mental health problems. You simply don't allow yourself to be controlled by the person who is not mentally well. Finally, I close with my thoughts on internet trolls. To me, trolls are the lowest form of internet life. They have no real meaning or purpose in the real world. Thus, they fashion an existence online where they convince themselves they are powerful, speaking glorious wisdom, when, in fact, they are just tales told by an idiot, full of sound and fury, signifying nothing. Take a moment to rate and review the show and then share the episode on social media. You can find me on Facebook, X, Instagram, GETTR and TRUTH Social by searching for The Alan Sanders Show. Are there really universal laws of creativity? Doesn't that sound too good to be true?In final episode of season one, hosts Todd Henry and Joshua Gott discuss Dave Zaboski's five 'Universal Laws Of Creativity', unpacking powerful insights from the first twelve episodes. They explore the dynamics of feedback and empathy in collaborative environments, the invigorating challenge of early project traction, the strategy behind juggling multiple initiatives, the transformative power of belief in the creative process, and the courage it takes to invite others into your work. Here are some key insights:1. Feedback is a dish best served with care.Navigating the fine line between directness and consideration is crucial when giving feedback. Todd Henry's candid confession about his sometimes over-aggressive approach to challenging ideas hints at the nuanced dance of pushing for improvement without bruising spirits. How can you ensure that your feedback builds up rather than tears down?2. Empathy without action leads to creative stagnation.Ruinous empathy can silently sabotage the best of teams, as the episode's conversation reveals. Over-caring without confronting issues may seem harmless but often results in a loss of trust and stunted growth. Instead, fostering a culture where challenges are met head-on, albeit with a human touch, can fuel a more vibrant and productive creative process. Is your empathy is empowering others or enabling a fear of conflict.3. The first step of creation is belief in the vision.A core message delivered by Dave Zaboski is the indispensable power of belief for igniting the creative spark. The session revisits moments when embracing a vision was the impetus for remarkable collaborations and projects. From the drawing boards of iconic films to the birth of a podcast season, belief is the secret sauce that enables creators to dream and venture beyond the ordinary. What creative vision are you pursuing?4. Risk is the price of admission for a chance to dance with success.Thad Cockrell's tale of a $99 album and the musician's gamble of mortgaging his house underlines a truth discussed in our episode: pivotal breaks often come at the heels of risk-filled decisions. Linking this concept to the 'Band of Brothers' metaphor echoes the idea that freedom to create is intertwined with the bravery to confront possible losses. What risk might you need to take in order to make your idea happen?5. Completion is a marathon, not a sprint. The hardest part is not starting, but finishing — this sentiment is echoed throughout the episode, particularly in the context of managing one's energy and resolve. As creators, seeing a project through to its conclusion, especially when novelty wanes and the grind sets in, distinguishes the successful from those who fall short. What does "finishing" mean in your current work?As always, you can hear the full interview with Dave Zaboski and receive daily episodes and prompts in the Daily Creative app at DailyCreative.app.Mentioned in this episode:NEW BOOK! As a Black woman, she explained, “as soon as I offer anyone even the most compassionate, gentle criticism, I get assigned the ‘angry Black woman' stereotype.” Kim realized in that moment that her book needed a prequel of sorts, explaining what you need to have before you can create radical candor: “You're not going to care about people who you don't respect,” she says.In this episode, Kim and Joubin discuss regret minimization, Juice Software, Sheryl Sandberg, saying “um,” moments of connection, Dick Costolo, negative truths, James March, snobbery, Charles Ferguson, Shona Brown, Fred Kofman, Christa Quarles, Jason Rosoff, Andy Grove, founders as outliers, Jack Dorsey, Steve Jobs, glows and grows, the Post Ranch Inn, failing your colleagues, sexual harassment, DEI, and intellectual honesty. In this episode, we cover:(01:04) - Loud voices (03:59) - Writing a bestseller (07:48) - Why Kim wrote Radical Candor (14:21) - How to show you care (18:04) - Coaching tech CEOs (21:24) - Ruinous empathy and obnoxious aggression (25:40) - Leaving things unsaid (30:30) - Not an academic (35:21) - Learning from failed startups (38:55) - Performance reviews (42:30) - Why feedback feels risky (49:21) - How to reject feedback (53:11) - Creating space for feedback at home (56:08) - Running and sleeping (59:45) - Radical Respect and Kim's other books (01:04:27) - The hardest story to share (01:06:44) - Optimism about the future Links:Connect with KimBuy Radical Candor: Be a Kickass Boss Without Losing Your HumanityPre-order Radical Respect: How To Work Together BetterTwitterLinkedInConnect with JoubinTwitterLinkedInEmail: grit@kleinerperkins.com Learn more about Kleiner PerkinsThis episode was edited by Eric Johnson from LightningPod.fm
Find out why Myanmar is in a state of economic collapse with only one per cent growth in fiscal year 2023/24. Synopsis: Every fourth Friday of the month, The Straits Times' global contributor Nirmal Ghosh shines a light on Asian perspectives of global and Asian issues with expert guests. Military-driven policies and conflict have shrunk Myanmar's formal economy, but its illicit economy - long a feature of its borderlands in particular - has been thriving. Myanmar's military regime is not entirely to be blamed for this tradition of transnational crime syndicates as many of the areas concerned have been controlled for decades by ethnic armies, which essentially make a living from the informal or illicit economy. To unravel the complexities of Myanmar's crisis, Nirmal Ghosh hosts two guests in this episode. First is Professor Sean Turnell, former economic advisor to Daw Aung San Suu Kyi, the former State Councillor, now in jail, who held office from 2016 until the military coup of February 2021. Second is Dr Michael Vatikiotis, a veteran journalist, author and broadcaster who has been based in Asia for 35 years. Highlights (click/tap above): 1:33 Why is Myanmar's economy performing poorly? 3:38 Recently, there has been an unprecedented coalescing of ethnic armed organisations into effective alliances, different from historic fragmented resistance to the military in the past 7:00 Recent crackdowns by China's proxies indicate the level of concern about Myanmar's transnational crime syndicates, as these prey especially on the Chinese 8:47 Can the military regime be completely blamed for this too? Many of the areas controlled by ethnic armies have essentially made a living from the informal or illicit economy 14:40 Tremendously deep, long lasting levels of mistrust between constituent elements; is the younger generation leading the revolution impressive? The Rich Zeoli Show- Hour 1: On Wednesday, billionaire Elon Musk spoke with New York Times financial columnist Andrew Ross Sorkin at the 2023 DealBook Summit in New York City. During the conversation, Musk reacted to advertisers—like Disney, NBC Universal, Paramount, and Apple—pulling their money from X (the social media platform formally known as Twitter) due to disagreements over content permitted to exist on the platform, explaining: “If someone is going to try to blackmail me with advertising, black mail me with money—go f*** yourself.” He then said, “Hi, Bob!”—referencing Disney CEO Bob Iger who was attending the event. While speaking with Andrew Ross Sokin, Elon Musk was forced to concede that without advertising dollars, X will go bankrupt and ultimately “be gone.” Though he defiantly told the audience at the 2023 DealBook Summit: “Let the chips fall where they may…What I care about is the reality of goodness not the perception of it. And what I see all over the place is people care about looking good while doing evil. F*** them.” Chico Harlan, of The Washington Post, documents that although the United Arab Emirates (UAE) is hosting the United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP28) later this week, they are simultaneously “ramping up its oil production capacity like never before.” You can read the full article here: https://www.washingtonpost.com/climate-environment/2023/11/21/uae-dubai-cop28-oil-solar/ In an opinion piece featured in The Wall Street Journal, Bjorn Lomborg—a fellow at Stanford University's Hoover Institution—writes: “World leaders are gathering in Dubai for another climate conference, which will no doubt yield heady promises along the lines of the 2015 Paris climate agreement to keep the global temperature's rise ‘well below' 2 degrees Celsius and pursue efforts to limit it to 1.5 degrees. But they'd be wiser not to. New research shows how extravagant climate promises are far more wasteful than useful… peer-reviewed paper from MIT economists identifies the cost of holding the temperature's rise below 1.5 degrees as well as that of achieving net zero globally by 2050. The researchers find that these Paris policies would cost 8% to 18% of annual GDP by 2050 and 11% to 13% annually by 2100.” You can read the full editorial here: https://www.wsj.com/articles/net-zero-fails-the-cost-benefit-test-paris-climate-accord-cop28-748ae52d?mod=opinion_lead_pos6
Today's show opens with the two most important lines from yesterday's GOP debate. To be honest, I didn't even know it was last night. They are all competing to see who gets to come in second behind Donald Trump, anyway, so there isn't much to watch. However, Vivek Ramaswamy opened with one of the best rebukes of GOP Chair Ronna McDaneil and an equally massive indictment against the Legacy/mainstream media. It was glorious to behold. He then closed the evening with a reminder that Joe Biden is not really the president, but more of a spokesperson for the unelected bureaucracy. CNN just fired a Palestinian journalist after he claimed he “embedded with” Hamas terrorists during the October 7 attack. This lends suspicion that this person was well aware of the impending attack and chose to keep quiet. There is even a picture of him being kissed by a Hamas commander. Earlier this week, Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D-MI) was censured in the House. After her constant lies and anti-Semitic hatred, the House had had enough. She continues to employ taqiyya – the element of Sharia Law that allows a Muslim to lie and even denounce their own faith if their virtuous intent is to fool their enemies enough to gain their trust and then harm or kill them. That's what she is doing. White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre thinks she sorta, kinda may have seen some reporting about people ripping down the missing and kidnapped signs in place. But, she wants you to know, she's just not going to into specifics on that particular thing. Why? Because she cannot alienate a large segment of her own Democrat voting block. Oh, if you missed it earlier this week, an amendment was proposed on the House floor to lower Secretary of Transportation, Pete Buttigieg's salary down to one dollar. Apparently he was caught being driven to within a few hundred feet of work and then gets on his bike and rides the rest of the way to virtue-signal his commitment to fighting climate change. Well, thanks to Karine's games, Rep. Claudia Tenney (R-NY) has introduced an amendment to also lower her salary to one dollar. Senator John Kennedy (R-LA) had a wonderful grilling of DHS Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas on the border and border policy. He closed with a perfect description of the competence of the walking male member with eyebrows. “Either you're not qualified to manage a Costco food court or you believe in open borders.” Finally, Rep. Andy Biggs (R-AZ) says their Oversight Committee has tens of thousands of bank activity reports and hundreds of suspicious bank activity reports on the Bidens. He says they have the evidence and it looks like the Bidens were involved in money laundering, selling access, bribes and corruption. Accordingly, Rep. James Comer (R-KY) has signed off on dozens of subpoenas for members of the Biden Crime Family Syndicate. Take a moment to rate and review the show and then share the episode on social media. “We don't need you to regurgitate our answers. We need you to go figure out who the hell you are. That's your contribution.” - Dave Cuomo Dave shares a favorite legend about a cocky young monk crossing a river and a moment of self confidence so powerful we're still talking about it a thousand years later. In a practice that glorifies not knowing, how do we know when we know something for certain? What is self confidence in a tradition so obsessed with no-self? Can we look up to our teachers without getting let down, or is the goal of self actualization to not need other people at all? Find out here!

The Barbie Movie is the biggest box office blockbuster of the year, so far. But, Barbie was a worldview.--She started out a call girl for German men in 1959. She was made both a sex symbol and a feminist at the same time -self-defined, you can be whatever you want to be-. She was out to seek role equality for women.--Meanwhile, men were reduced to lap dogs, -accessories,- partners in sexual sin, irresponsible louts, immature little boys playing computer games, and worst case, -sexual predators.- Hers was a terribly destructive worldview for modern society.--We end with a basic summary of biblical descriptives for the godly man.--This program includes---1. The World View in 5 Minutes with Adam McManus -Ukrainian gov't persecuting Ukrainian Orthodox Church, Maskless Christian arrested - vindicated, European Gen Zers pray and attend church when elders don't---2. Generations with Kevin Swanson

As seasons change, so do our friendships. And sometimes these shifts involve realizing that it's time to move on from a friendship and break ties. If you currently find yourself mulling over this decision, have been in this situation before, or are about to enter into that space, friendship expert and education Danielle Bayard Jackson can offer some perspective. In this episode, you'll learn how: Empathy can hold you back The dangers of maintaining the status quo Fear of your friend's reaction can be detrimental To shift your perspective on what's possible The bad can outweigh the good Danielle Social Links: Book a private friendship coaching session here. When it's time to break off a friendship, we can begin to experience a mix of emotions. Everything from fear, sadness, guilt, over-consideration to anger and confusion. It's all warranted because deciding to break up with a friend can be as significant as a romantic relationship. It is important to note that this episode is not saying that you definitely need to break up with your friend. “Too many of us are already ending female friendships prematurely. But in order for us to grow and to make space available, and to make space available in our life, for new friendships, we sometimes determine that a current one is just not working.” – Danielle Bayard Jackson. But deep down, if you know that this relationship has run its course, staying can begin to cause more harm (to yourself) than good. So what's the holdup? One of the possible reasons holding you back? Ruinous empathy. You'll learn more about this tricky emotion in today's episode. You may also be delaying a friendship breakup because of the fear of being mischaracterized by your friends and themselves. How does your attachment to others' perception keep you stuck in tricky situations? Another reason you may delay breaking up with a friend is because of the fear of the friend's reaction. Anticipating a direct and active breakup with a friend can be jarring, with anxiety and stress growing at the thought of how the conversation will go. But it's possible. Working with a friendship coach can help you develop a strategy and script that will help prepare you and calm your anxiety before entering into these kinds of conversations. To learn about 4 additional reasons why ending a friendship may be difficult, please become a member of our “group chat”. Extended and bonus resources are always reserved for them, because they're our VIP's! Thinking about all of the good that is being lost with the breakup of a friendship can keep us holding on longer than we should, but sometimes ending the relationship is necessary. Your friendship expert, Danielle Bayard Jackson challenges you with a bit of homework – Think about the main reason you've been holding on to a friendship…What has it been costing you to stay?
