Welcome to What Matters Now, a weekly podcast exploring key issues currently shaping Israel and the Jewish World, with host Amanda Borschel-Dan speaking with The Times of Israel's senior analyst Haviv Rettig Gur. With the sudden death of US Sen. Lindsey Graham this week, Rettig Gur is asked to expound on the loss of this staunchly pro-Israel politician who was able to rally both sides of the aisle. We then turn to the recent visits of two Democratic wannabe presidential candidates -- Rahm Emanuel, most recently the US ambassador to Japan, and US Rep. Ro Khanna. We hear how both politicians came with distinct messages and very different goals. And finally, as America turns 250, we learn about Anglo Jewry's inability to foresee the new phenomenon of antisemitism hitting the US's teeming shores. Does the vilification of Israel change their hypothetical plans for escape? And so this week, we ask Haviv Rettig Gur what matters now. After Republican Senator Thom Tillis demanded Acting Attorney General finally meet with Epstein survivors as a condition for his vote to confirm him, Todd Blanche sat down with several of the women at the Justice Department; it didn’t go well. Several of the women said they were even more convinced that Blanche should not become our next Attorney General, some calling him evasive at best, abrasive and condescending at worst. Blanche had a much different way of characterizing the meeting, calling it “productive”. Blanche’s nomination is not a given, just one Republican “no” vote will end his path to AG.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

His friends, family and a string of partners all believed a version of the same thing. That Randy was a former marine who now flew commercial airliners. But as the people around him started to look more closely, their ideas about who this charming man was began to wobble. And if Randy has been taking such great liberties with the truth then what else isn't true? Chameleon is a production of Campside Media and Audiochuck. The Supremes, Bananarama, All Saints, Girls Aloud, TLC, The Bangles, B*Witched, Sugababes, En Vogue og de største af dem alle Spice Girls. Playliste: The Ronettes - Be my baby The Supremes - Baby love LaBelle - Lady Marmalade Bananarama - Venus The Bangles - Walk like an Egyptian En Vogue - My lovin' (You're never gonna get it) SWV - Right here TLC - Waterfalls Spice Girls - Wannabe Spice Girls - Spice up your life All Saints - Never ever B*Witched - C'est la vie TLC - No scrubs Destiny's Child - Say my name Atomic Kiiten - Whole again EyeQ - I want what she's got Sugababes - Round and round Girls Aloud - Sound of the underground The Pussycat Dolls feat. Busta Rhymes - Don't cha Little Mix - Black magic Blackpink - How you like that

Most of us are moving faster than ever — more content, more hustle, more output. But what if the most powerful thing you could do right now is stop? In this episode of Cut to the Chase: with Gregg Goldfarb, Gregg sits down with filmmaker Steve Dabal, director of Italian Wannabe — a feature documentary that sold out five screenings at the 2026 Palm Springs International Film Festival and is now doing pop-up screenings across the country. Italian Wannabe follows chef Bill Disselhorst — co-founder of Fiore Market Cafe, one of America's Top 100 restaurants — as he walks away from his Los Angeles life and returns to Casperia, a small medieval village an hour north of Rome, where he and his late wife Anne first fell in love with Italian food, slow living, and the kind of community that doesn't exist on a screen. What started as one man's grief became a meditation on reinvention, passion, and what it really means to belong somewhere. Join Gregg and Steve on Cut to the Chase: as they discuss: How chef Bill Disselhorst built one of America's Top 100 restaurants — and what happened when he lost it all Why the village of Casperia, Italy holds the secret to a life most of us only dream about What Italian Wannabe is really about — and why it's not just a food documentary How Steve went from a year of no work and near burnout to making his first feature film with a borrowed camera Why community is the most underrated currency in business, film, and life What the film festival circuit looks like right now — and why it has never been a better time to make a documentary The one lesson from Bill Disselhorst that will change how you treat every person you meet Key Moments: 00:00 — Gregg introduces Italian Wannabe and filmmaker Steve Dabal 01:30 — What Italian Wannabe is really about and how it began 03:00 — How Steve met Bill at Fiore Market Cafe during film school 05:00 — The village of Casperia, Italy and why Bill keeps going back 07:30 — The contrast between hustle culture and the Italian slow life 10:00 — How Bill's approach to community changed how Steve lives and works 13:00 — The one habit — asking people their names — that builds real connection 16:00 — How the writers' strike and a year without work led to the film 19:00 — What it takes to make a documentary today — no degree, no big budget required 22:00 — Italian Wannabe's journey: from borrowed camera to Palm Springs Film Festival sellout 25:00 — Why this film will make you rethink what you're chasing Guest Bio: Steve Dabal is an Italian-American director, cinematographer, and editor with a deep VFX background and a focus on non-fiction storytelling. As co-founder and Creative Director of The Family, a New York-based production house, he has interviewed subjects ranging from Scarlett Johansson and Fortune 500 CEOs to war veterans and 9/11 survivors. His work has screened at SXSW, the New York Film Festival, and internationally. Italian Wannabe is his debut feature documentary. The film sold out five screenings at the 2026 Palm Springs International Film Festival and was also an official selection at the Berkshire International Film Festival. She says her new solo album Sweat is a chance to bring together all the different aspects of herself, from pop star to superstar DJ, teenage raver to being fit in her 50s. She joins Anita Rani to discuss her latest album, body image, and finding confidence in her 40s and 50s.At the height of the Covid pandemic, hundreds of women undergoing treatment for breast cancer had mastectomies without reconstruction - procedures that would usually happen at the same time, but were paused because they were considered non-essential. Many women were told they would be able to have reconstructive surgery once the restrictions lifted. But five years on, some are still waiting: living with pain and discomfort, and unable to move on with their lives. Joining Nuala McGovern are journalist Rosie Taylor, who has been speaking to the women affected, and Alison from StockportOn Monday, Sarah Finch became the European recipient of the Goldman Environmental Prize, for her work against oil drilling in Surrey, with the Weald Action Group. Their long legal battle led to a landmark judgement on fossil fuel emissions. The Goldman Prize, often referred to as the ‘Green Nobel', honours grassroots environmental activists from around the world. For the first time since its inception, all six prizes were won by women. She says her new solo album Sweat is a chance to bring together all the different aspects of herself, from pop star to superstar DJ, teenage raver to being fit in her 50s. She joins Anita Rani to discuss why she's bringing the joy on a quest to get people dancing, and the enduring legacy of the Spice Girls. Concerns are being raised over a lack of safeguards for ‘child influencers' after an investigation found children as young as two demonstrating skincare routines on TikTok. The Guardian's Consumer Affairs Correspondent Sarah Marsh tells Anita about their research which found that from 8,000 skincare-related posts on the social media platform, there were hundreds featuring children believed to be under 13, and at least 90 featuring children under five. Dermatologists have said children do not need multi-step skincare routines, which could damage their skin and increase anxiety about their appearance.Writer and newspaper columnist Bryony Gordon joins Anita to talk about her novel People Pleaser, her first work of fiction after writing seven memoirs about her experiences with addiction and mental health and her attempts to combat those. Maddie Haining, an 18-year-old wheelchair user from Oldham, posted online her experience of being asked to leave a Manchester nightclub for safety reasons. She described feeling embarrassed and infuriated when told that her wheelchair was a safety risk. Maddie joins Anita to explain what happened and we also hear from Dr Shani Dhanda, Disability Inclusion and Accessibility Consultant.Calli Hauger-Thackery was bronze medalist in the women's half marathon at the 2024 European Athletics Championships, and a member of the gold medal-winning team in the 2024 European Half-Marathon Cup, held at the same time. Trump's nominee to lead the Department of Homeland Security, Oklahoma Senator Mark Wayne Mullin, faced a confirmation hearing that left jaws on the floor. A multimillionaire who inherited his father's plumbing empire, received a PPP loan exceeding one million dollars that was later forgiven, and never served a single day in the United States military, Mullin has somehow found himself one step away from running DHS. The hearing produced moment after moment of staggering incompetence. When asked if he had ever traveled outside the United States, Mullin said no, despite his own FBI background report listing trips to Georgia and Azerbaijan. Senator Rand Paul, who has a long and bitter history with Mullin, used his committee time to relentlessly grill the nominee over past comments about dueling and physical violence between senators. The confrontation between Paul and Mullin was as tense and bizarre as advertised. When pressed on whether President Trump would ever ask him to break the law, Mullin flatly said no, prompting Hawk to walk through Trump's 91 indictments, 34 felony convictions, civil rape adjudication, classified document charges, and multiple attempts to overturn the 2020 election. Mullin also described going on classified missions and experiencing the smell of war, despite having zero military service. Independent journalist Aaron Rupar on Blue Sky provided real-time clip coverage of both the Mullin hearing and Tulsi Gabbard's simultaneous Senate subcommittee testimony. Send a textMinnesota has its own AOC wannabe...Check out the American Experiment PodcastWelcome back! This week on the American Experiment Podcast…Bill Walsh takes the reins while Grace and Kathryn are off on special assignment, with Isaac making an appearance on the producer cam.The episode kicks off with a bill passed in the Minnesota Senate that would spend $40 million on rent assistance. The catch? Illegal immigrants would also be eligible for the program. Then Bill breaks down Minnesota's very own AOC wannabe, Erin Maye Quade, from the heated rhetoric to the Trump hatred, and the DFL's broader strategy to shift attention away from their failures in Minnesota and toward Donald Trump heading into 2026.Next, a new DFL representative says she wants to “raise revenue” to fund the things “we all deem worthy” which, of course, means raising your taxes to pay for things like $40 million in rent assistance for illegal immigrants. On the back half of the episode, Grace and Kathryn sit down with Senator Andrew Mathews to discuss our latest energy campaign: “Nuke the Mandate, Free the Nukes!”Remember to LIKE, SHARE, COMMENT, and SUBSCRIBE so you never miss an episode of the American Experiment Podcast.
