It's just two of your favorite Fiorentina podcast idiots in this one--McMike's off listening to birdsong to write an Oliver Messiaen-type symphony--but we've got enough gloom for the three of us. Producer Mike and Tito run through the grimmest week of results in recent Viola memory. Yep, we're talking about losses at opposite ends of the spectrum (Real Betis and Venezia) that result in similar outcomes: goodbye Europe. Don't worry, though. We don't confine ourselves to just that one kind of sadness. We look ahead to the potential repercussions of missing out on continental competition, looking at who might be edging towards the exit and which loanees saw their chances of sticking in Florence drastically reduced. We tried to avoid going full Zack Snyder and interspersed the grim dark greys and muted blues with the odd Wes Anderson pastel: Producer Mike pouring his first-ever beer, for example, or Tito trying to combine American football, the Tyrannosaurus Rex, and a shrimp. Thank you to Sport Social Podcast Network for hosting us and to Windchime Weather for the music. As always, we hope you enjoy listening as much as we enjoyed making this. Forza Viola! Your three favorite Fiorentina podcast idiots are back together for the first time in a minute and we've got a lot to talk about. We looked back at the triumphant Derby dell'Arno before glancing ahead at the Conference League semifinal against Real Betis. We also ran through some of the key absences facing the Viola at the moment. The big thing we did, though, was play a little game we're calling McMoneybags McMike. Imagine, if you will, that our favorite big bearded boy bought the club and brought Producer Mike and Tito along for the ride, but with a catch: they both have to present a plan for the summer transfer window. Nepotism? Absolutely. Do they still have some decent ideas? Sure. Is there pandering to those with a fondness for midfielders whose cheeks are sharp enough to puncture tires? Oh, most definitely. Thank you to Sport Social Podcast Network for hosting us and to Windchime Weather for the music. As always, we hope you enjoy listening as much as we enjoyed making this. EDITOR'S NOTE: We didn't talk about the Celje win (?) because we recorded a couple days beforehand. Due to real world constraints, by which we mean Producer Mike's day job, this one's a couple days behind. Anyways, it's the Tito and Hines show today as McMike is on a super-secret special assignment that certainly doesn't involve hiding in suburban New Jersey shrubbery. We had a somewhat grim conversation about the dire draw against Parma and a somewhat less grim conversation about the first leg win at Celje before swerving into predictions for the rest of the season and then descending back into the serious stuff about the newest betting scandal hitting Serie A, which touches on a couple of Fiorentina players. Come for the heavy topics but stick around for the more important stuff: where McMike is, what conspiracy of primates knocked Producer Mike out of commission as we recorded, and Tito's triumphant return to What Are You Drinking. Thank you to Sport Social Podcast Network for hosting us and to Windchime Weather for the music. As always, we hope you enjoy listening as much as we enjoyed making this. The birds sing. The sun kisses your skin. There's no doubt about it, there's something in the air, and that something is a couple of big wins over Juventus and Atalanta. McMike and Tito bask in that positivity (mostly because Producer Mike isn't around to bring it crashing back into an emotional nuclear winter) as they look back over the past couple outings. It's not just the games that count in the standings, though. Stroll with us through the golden garden of halcyon memories as we hit the highlights of #PepitoDay, celebrating the one and only Giuseppe Rossi and some of his friends who swung through town to hang out for his testimonial match. Russ & Pete welcomed Craig Clayton to the pod to tell us about his beloved Barnet FC's plans to return to the local borough from relative exile in Edgware. Craig is part of the campaign group hoping to raise awareness and support for their bid to return home, with a site very close to their cherished ancestral home (now a school!) at Underhill being the location identified. As well as telling us his Bees backstory and about how well things are going on the pitch, there's wistful reminiscences about Underhill (the original), Pete's account of his own many visits, having been brought up in the vicinity and of the major names that have graced the hallowed turf, such as Tony Cotten and Edgar Davids, yes….THE Edgar Davids. Then in part two, your regular undynamic duo looked back again to the highly creditable draw at City, stretching the unbeaten run to 7, reflected on the rest of the weekend's main talking points and examined how the EFL promotion and relegation battles are shaping up. Your favorite Fiorentina podcast idiots are back for a new episode looking at the same problems plaguing the VIola in deflating losses at Panathinaikos and against Napoli from which they limped away with even more self-inflicted wounds, which should feel like business as usual at this point but still hurts our feelings. We also discuss expectations for the rest of the season and weigh the merits of Serie A versus the Conference League in a discussion that we certainly won't look back on as hopelessly optimistic in a few months. The real fun part, though, is a look at all the Fiorentina loanees. This is the loaniest club in the league and we wanted to look at those short-term deals through a longer-term lens, so we played a new game we're calling Keep or Yeet with the guys currently at the club, and a similar game called Try Again or To the Bin with the guys elsewhere. Along the way, you'll get to hear about the Irish Hineses of Monterrey in Mexico, McMike learning what yeet means, and Tito once again reduced to dead air (because that's what makes for compelling audio content). Thank you to Sport Social Podcast Network for hosting us and to Windchime Weather for the music. As always, we hope you enjoy listening as much as we enjoyed making this. With Chelsea safely despatched from the FA Cup last weekend, attentions turned six days later to ridiculous 8pm kickoff part two and a Brighton breezy 3-0 ‘sweep aside' of our dearly beloved London visitors! Winning that game meant one double was achieved for the Albion in the shape of back-to-back home wins against Chelsea, but it wasn't the only double for Brighton at the weekend. That's because the other club of note within the city of Brighton and Hove, Whitehawk, were in action the following day for the very tough visit to highflying Dover Athletic, but it was The Hawks who prevailed to make it a glorious double for Brighton's teams with their surprising 0-2 win. Russ and Jack Albion made the trip down to the corner of Kent to see that fantastic win, taking the opportunity to review Albion's battering of Chelsea down the pub before kickoff on Saturday. It was just the reaction the boys in the stripes needed to provide and they did so, thanks to an accomplished headed finish from Smiler and a delicious low chipped winner by Mito, leaving an array of objectionable ex-Seagulls in his wake, sprawled pitifully upon the hallowed turf of Albion. Evenings (far too late evenings, thanks a lot ITV you selfish bastards!) don't get much better than this and my oh my did we all enjoy it, even though many had to stay at home to watch on the tellybox (thanks again ITV you selfish bastards!). The considered views of Andy K and Raymond ‘The Gent' Wrighty McWright accompanied the idle ramblings of your erstwhile and consistently nauseating host Russell G - who now seems to have taken to singing pod intros……good grief and lord save us all!!! As well as revelling in the rightful elimination of Chelsea (not completely, they DO still exist unfortunately) the chaps cast an entertained eye over the rest of the weekend's cup games including Devon's cream of the crop, cupsetters extraordinaire Plymouth Argyle, perused the 5th Round draw and considered Albion's prospects for Chelsea (h) Part Two. However it was far from all fun and games and kicking Marc Cockarella ten foot upwards. It was our profoundly sad duty to report to any that hadn't heard already of the devastating loss to us all of Worthing FC club legend Peter Vale. Pete passed away this week following a very recent cardiac arrest. He leaves behind him an array of people harbouring the fondest of memories of his kindness, friendliness, dedication to the club through all his free time generously given up in order to travel the length and breadth of the country commentating on Rebels games and his wonderful sense of humour. Pete has appeared on numerous podcasts, most notably Rebel Yell and latterly The Premier Non League Podcast (PNLP), as well as several guest slots on our own humble platform here. We are devastated to hear the news and can't begin to describe how sadly missed he'll be to all who knew him. The outpouring on social media has been utterly heartwarming, yet entirely unsurprising. We miss you already, Pete. Friend, legend and all round good guy. We wanted to just talk about the weather and the price of fish but felt obligated to discuss something of an aberration by The Trent as Forest, spearheaded by the most nominatively deterministically named player in history, Chris Wood, felled Albion's severely depleted charges to the tune of 7-0. Also under discussion was an eventful transfer window that marginally strengthened this season's squad with ins (Gomez and Cashin) but weakened it with outs (Fergie, Moder and Enciso), plus other future planning business and some other sales and releases. For the first time in what feels like years, your three favorite Fiorentina podcast idiots reunite to talk shop. While that reunion was pretty joyous, the cloud surrounding the Viola is less so. We discuss just how stinky that cloud is following the collapse against Torino, whence that stink is emanating, and whether there's a way to eliminate or just cover it. It's hard to say, but having club leadership slap-fighting in the media probably isn't the best approach. After that, we turn to everyone's favorite disinformation mill: the transfer market. We run down some potential arrivals and some potential departures, as you'd expect. We touch on Michael Kayode and Jonathan Ikoné (both healthy scratches against the Granata) as well as a couple other candidates for a January exit before hitting the names you'd expect. Yep, it's Pablo Marí, Tony Sanabria, Dennis Man, and Brian Cristante. Yes it's all about the threes! Another three points as we complete three successive wins at Old Trafford, under three different managers, completing three wins in a row, which happen to all be away wins within the space of one week! Happy days! Albion made their superiority count as they came away with all three points yet again from the Theatre of Leaks. In this episode Russ and Pete were zooming, with plenty of reflections on the game, but only after we heard from our northern correspondence Alastair and Nick, who gave us their thoughts while at the game for a mini MDS. Pete was also in attendance and he seemed very pleased to have been so. We are UP FOR THE CUP! And we really were on Saturday, riding an early threat from Norwich to eventually romp home 0-4. A great day out, a great performance and some fantastic positives to be taken from the game, including a welcome return for Danny Welbeck, a welcome and sensational appearance from the bench for Solly March, some really good goals including an overdue strike for Julio Enciso and last but by absolutely no means least, a first team debut for young Albion centre back Ruairi McConville, who came on and acquitted himself really well. Russ spoke to his dad and younger brother in the away end at the end of the match and found both family members to be delighted and extremely proud of Ruairi's debut. Also on the pod we heard from two Davids, Chris, Sam, Molly, Caroline, Will and Clive. So next up, an immediate return to East Anglia with a visit to Portman Road in the Prem. Stand or fall!   UTA!  Welcome to the first team, Ruairi!!! @BrightonRockPod on BlueSky (and Twatter) brightonrockpodcast@gmail.com Part of the Sport Social Podcast Network that can be found in all their glory at this rather suitable address: www.sport-social.co.uk  Please follow us for automatic downloads of new episodes and if you want to make us really happy please rate us five stars on Apple and any other platforms that provide the opportunity to do so! Mike and Mike convene to break down the Napoli loss in both scatological and eschatological terms, trying to figure out what went wrong (everything) and what went right (nothing). Napoli certainly deserved to win but holy smokes was that unpleasant. It was maybe so unpleasant that your favorite Fiorentina podcast idiots think this might have been a Joshua Brillante situation, a demonstration that the squad needs a lot of work in January. That naturally took us into a discussion about the winter transfer window, which we were able to have because Tito wasn't around to be grouchy about it. We talk about the incoming (Michael Folorunsho, Pablo Marí), the outgoing (Lucas Martínez Quarta), and the rumors surrounding players who fall into either category. As you can imagine, that's a lot. Along the way, we learn about Larry David theme music defending, the difference between a fart and a shart in a metaphor, and all about Jarritos sodas. Thanks to the Sport Social Podcast Network for hosting us and to Windchime Weather for the theme song. Hit us with questions on the website, Twitter, or Bluesky. We hope you enjoy listening to this as much as we enjoyed making it. Forza Viola! Learn more about your ad choices. Visit podcastchoices.com/adchoices

Russ further mused on the draw with Arsenal before welcoming back FA Cup facts and stats guru Phil Annets to talk us through the eye-catchers of this 3rd Round weekend, to pop in some interesting facts and to proffer both the head-to-head stats for The Canaries vs Albion AND some quirky trivia on the same subject. There's also Russ's thoughts on the possible team for the weekend…shame he couldn't remember Ruairi McConville's name at the time!!! Well, well, well! Who'd a thunk it?! 5 years on, 400 episodes in and still waffling for England! But that's enough about Peter… it was a match day of magnitude as Albion went head-to-head against title pretenders Arsenal. And then there's all the chat from the Villa game before that, courtesy of our northern correspondents and the aforementioned waffler Pete. A bumper episode for the ages! Well here we went again. Another day, another underwhelming result. We spoke to Billy ‘The Bee' Grant ahead of the game to get the opposition view (just before Christmas) and then Russ, Alan, Duncan and Alex Lees, Chris, Kevin, Wilts, Dan and Fin' all gave their thoughts as the action eventually unfolded on 27th. Then in the final part of the episode The Brighton Rock Podcast paid tribute to Bill Nicolle who sadly passed away a few weeks ago. Bill was a long term supporter and a regular in the West Stand Upper, father to three Seagulls supporting children, friends of the show Alison, Richard and Phil and an all round good guy who will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him. Fresh off a disheartening defeat against unpleasant Udinese, two-thirds of your favorite podcast idiots convene to discuss the state of Fiorentina. Producer Mike and Tito run through the collapse against the Zebrette, trying to figure out what went wrong and maybe salvage some positives. From there, the conversation took a turn into what's changed for the Viola since Edoardo Bove's exit, trying to figure out some mitigation strategies to replace his unique contributions. After that, we classed up the joint with our favorite (only?) Juventus expert: Danny Penza of BWRAO. Danny and Tito ran through Juve's season to date, including the ex-Fiorentina contingent, and tried to get a handle on what Thiago Motta's been cooking up besides potions of health. We capped it off, of course, with some predictions. Along the way, we learned about McMike's attempts to evade NORAD, Producer Mike's goose-like fear of wooden canines, and Tito's 6-dimensional chess predictions.
