Three big topics on today's episode of Couch Potato Diary with Peter Klein.Victor Wembanyama put on a performance in Game 1 against Oklahoma City that should genuinely scare the rest of the NBA. I break down what made it so extraordinary and why the league has never quite seen anything like what he is capable of at both ends of the floor. But the Thunder have been here before, and I make the case for why Oklahoma City is far from done in this series. Then I turn to the Toronto Raptors, and what a genuinely interesting offseason is setting up for this franchise. There is more to build on from this season than people are giving them credit for, and I lay out what I think the priorities need to be heading into the summer. And the Montreal Canadiens beat the Buffalo Sabres in Game 7 of their Eastern Conference Semi-Final and advance to the Conference Finals. I break down what that result means and close with some quick predictions for both Conference Finals matchups.

Zweifeln. Zerbrechen. Unscheinbar, introvertiert, still. Schwachstellen. Das, was nicht passt. Und während er erzählt, gehen bei mir zwei Dinge gleichzeitig los: Ich seh sofort drei Menschen vor mir, die ich kenne. Und ich frag mich: Mach ich das eigentlich auch? Heute reden wir darüber. Was Gegenbeispielsortierer wertvoll macht. Quick question before we get started... which Easter candy are you most looking forward to this year? Whatever your answer is, we're going to use it. Because today we're building a financial Easter basket and matching some of your favorite candies to the products and tools that belong in a solid retirement plan. Important Links: Website: http://www.yourplanningpros.com Call: 844-707-7381   ----more---- Transcript:  Speaker 1  00:00 Quick question before we get started, which Easter candy are you most looking forward to? Yeah, that's my opener for the podcast this week, because we're going to talk about financial Easter baskets. So we're going to talk about candy and what they might say about you here this week on plan with the tax man. You   Speaker 1  00:35 everybody. Welcome into the podcast. This is plan with the tax man with Tony Morrow from tax Doctor Inc, at your planning pros.com that's where you can find them, online. Your planning pros.com, and Tony, we're gonna talk candy, because you and I are in our 50s and we love candy, but it don't love us as much anymore.   Tony Mauro  00:53 That's right. And I grew up eating candy and all these things, although my favorite Easter candy is not on there.   Speaker 1  01:00 Okay, we'll add that. Get to that at the end. Yeah, we'll add that in. So what are we going to do here? Is, I want to give you some, some, you know, Easter candy in lieu of the, you know, the end of the month here and Easter upon us. And we'll do a little financial Easter basket, and let you kind of give me some sort of, we'll do some sort of an analogy. I'll set you up with something, and I'll let you kind of talk about it, so we'll have a little bit of fun. So, are you a jelly bean kind of guy? Easter time? Do you like some jelly beans? You know? I like the kind of, what I would call those artisan jelly beans that they now have come out with, you know? So I do like them. But we always used to get just to run the mill stuff. Oh, yeah. Like, like, you know, I don't know Apple Cinnamon, or, you know, I don't know pumpkin spice or something, yes, although they probably do make a pumpkin spice Jelly Bean. And people are probably like, no pumpkins for October, not for, you know, April, but so, all right, the Jelly Bean, so, lots of colors, lots of combinations, right? And so maybe you're, maybe the analogy here is the 401 k right? Maybe, maybe some combinations, or some, some different things, some variety, potentially, yeah.   Tony Mauro  02:08 I think the biggest thing for, you know, the anchor of most retirement plans is either, you know, 401 K Sep, simple, you know, you name it as the anchor for what you're trying to do as you get toward the end.   Speaker 1  02:23 True and jelly beans are probably a good staple, a good anchor in the basket, if you will.   Tony Mauro  02:27 Yeah, you know, good anchor in the basket, you know. And you find them in every basket. If you don't have this, you know, you need to be starting it. Most employers are offering something these days, and you need to get started. I can't. We're in the midst of tax season, and I'll say this as a public service announcement, I and I've been doing taxes for 30 years. Is I always when I'm reviewing a return, look at somebody's w2 and look in box 12 and see what they're contributing or not contributing to their retirement plan. And many times I see the box check that they the company offers one, I see nothing being contributed, or I see a little bit, which is better than nothing, yeah, but you got to get it going, because it's one of the best deals on the street. It's usually some free money in there. And I think you need to start those early, the use time and compounding and everything else, so that you've got this anchor for when you you know, are at the end,   Speaker 1  03:22 yeah, I don't know why. I just got hit with it. You're talking about, you know, out there on the street, I'm thinking jelly beans in the street. And also I'm like, could you imagine a funny little world where we're out there dealing jelly beans on the corner? Hey, man, right, I got some, I got some pinks. I got some yellows. I got some of those, those terrible black ones. They're those are never very good. I'm not a big fan of, maybe it's just the, maybe it's just the, like black liquors, not very good   Tony Mauro  03:47 to me. I never did like the black ones. But I think, though, to your point, with the different colors, once you start contributing to one of these, then you need to have some diversification. Most, most retirement plans will offer you, you know, an array of different choices, which is, you know, probably behooves you to work with your advisor and come up with a strategy as to what those choices should be.   Speaker 1  04:09 Now, the Jelly Bean choices in the 401 k are, it's not crazy assortment of colors, right? So, like an IRA, you're going to have a lot more to choose from, you know, because you're kind of stuck with whatever they you know, the company goes within those 401 K options. So some people, Tony, often think about, hey, look, from a workplace plan, get that match, get that free money. But then maybe let's do some contributing to an individual account or something we set up so we have more control or more options. How do you feel about that strategy as well?   Tony Mauro  04:39 I like that strategy a lot. Well, that's what we generally will say, is, is somebody comes in, we tell them to start with their 401, K, get that company match. You could certainly continue to max that out if you want. Yeah, absolutely. And then one. Once you get to that point, then you've got to turn to outside. It might be a Roth, might be a traditional something like that. But yeah, if at least get the match. And then if you want more control, total control, then you have to go to an IRA or Roth. The only, the only drawback is, is you are limited on your contribution. So if you want to do more, you got to stay in that retirement plan with some of that. But yeah, they're all three are good ideas.   Speaker 1  05:17 Okay, all right, so moving on here with our Easter basket analogy, things you might find on the Easter basket and the candy, and then how that, you know, might correlate to something. Let's talk about peeps that teach the nasty. And if you like peeps, don't yell at me yet. I'm gonna give you I'm gonna do pros and cons here. But, you know, look, when you're a kid, man, they're colorful, they're fluffy. They're marshmallowy. A lot of kids like peeps, right? They're just kind of fun. You're kind of play with them. You stretch them out a little bit, you chomp on them. They're sticky on your fingers. But as you get a little older, I don't know, they're kind of nasty, right? And they're kind of a pain a little bit. But, you know, some people grow up and they still really love them. And this, to me, is got to be life insurance, right? Because it's kind of like when you're younger, you kind of dig it, right? And then you get older, you think, why do I like this? Or why do I do I even need this anymore?   Tony Mauro  06:08 Yeah, and, and just like peeps, and I don't like peeps anymore. I used to like them, right? Just like you life insurance generally, when we start talking about planning, is not very well, I would say, understood number one or used. So it's not everybody's first choice, that's for sure. And when we start talking to them about it, you know, everybody you know is going to die. And when you're younger, obviously, you know, especially today, term insurance is peanuts to get and protect your family. My son, who's 30, you know, got a new daughter. And, you know, home, and, you know, start accumulating debt, because they're just getting started, it's important that they have coverage. Yeah, for the family, in case one of them, you know, goes down. And yes, you can get some coverage through your employer, which obviously you want to take advantage of that. But it generally is not near enough to what you need, especially as you are younger now, as we age, we get in their 50s, like me, and I'm looking at my life insurance, and as some of this kind of is set to expire in the next five or 10 years, I don't need this much anymore, because I'm, you know, I'm closer to the end, all my bills are paid off, you know, it's in my other financial You know, situation is intact. So you may not need that. Now, some people say, Well, you know what, I don't care if I don't need it. I want it. I want to know if i i think a perfect scenario is I'm at retirement. This is me talking personally. I know that if I pass away, I can, I can, while I'm living, enjoy some of my money I've worked so hard for and I know that, okay, my son, if I'm going to pass money on to him, is gonna be taken care of through life insurance. And some people like, like, like, that angle as well,   Speaker 1  07:49 just like peeps, right? I mean, in some people love it, and it's not everyone. Some it's not everyone's first choice sometimes, right? So, but it could be a useful tool, right? As far as the life insurance thing, right, to pass on that wealth. So at least consider the conversation, have a chat and discuss it, because, again, life insurance is one of those pieces of the retirement strategy that, you know, it's, it's, there's some more wiggle room in there, but there it could be, or life insurance products in general, there could be some aspects of those tools that can be beneficial. So again, talk with your financial professional about that. And of course, Tony's here to help if you've got those questions as well. All right, inside the financial Easter basket, diving back in. Here we go. Here, robin's eggs. Okay, now, we didn't get these often, but occasionally we did. We get these interesting little candy, right? Kind of a divisive candy. Some love them. Some can't stand them. Kind of like peeps, really hard shell the speckled colors, right? Designed to look like a robin's egg. Some people just, my mom just used to use them for decorating. She'd be like, yeah, don't, you guys don't eat those, right? But maybe this is an emergency fund. Maybe this is kind of the analogy there, right? Where some people kind of feel like, you know, they don't really necessarily need it, and other advisors are like, it's a mandatory, you know, pillar of the retirement strategy?   Tony Mauro  09:01 Yeah, and I'm of the camp of, it's a required pillar of the strategy, because, and I think everybody should have one. You know, we tell our individual clients the goal is three to six months of income that you kind of hear that out on the streets in our business, with our business clients, we do accounting for, we're constantly harping on them for cash flow purposes is that you need to have 10% of your gross in your operating or OPEX account, yeah, generally at all times. And it's if it's not there yet. It's a goal. You work towards it. But everybody needs to have it. Because what happens when you have this emergency funding, whether you're individual or business, is it prevents small problems from becoming large problems. And in both cases, you know, on the individual side, you could lose your job, at least you've got a cushion till you find something else in business, you know, a product section or big client leaves, you've got a cushion until you build it back up. So I. Think you really take a big risk by not having one. And I think, as financial advisors, you know, we're trying to mitigate your risks, and so we, you work with me, you'll hear us harping on that that doesn't have to be go into the poor house until you get it built up. No, we're not saying that. But, you know, we want, we want a little bit of money going into that until we reach our goal. Yeah, it's very important.   Speaker 1  10:22 Yeah, you know, this is a little cheesy, but, I mean, it's kind of fun, right? So we're talking about this robin's egg thing, right? And some people, like, I said, just use them for decorating. You don't really eat them and emergency fun, right? You know, whether you love the idea or not, like the idea is that you hope that it just sits there and looks pretty. It's an account you never really have to crack into. Sorry, it   Tony Mauro  10:45 does work. And you know, I've had an emergency fund for, gosh, probably 24 or five years now, and it sat there. And I really it's at the point where I'm not, I'm not adding anymore, but I'm kind of starting to look at it and saying, Well, I wonder if I never use that, I get to retirement, right? Maybe I'll take it out and use it for a vacation fund or do something with it. But, yeah, you hope you never use it along   Speaker 1  11:06 the way. But that's a great point, though, Tony, because there is that argument, switch of the emergency fund once you are retired and you're not doing that, replacing, you know, expenses. Should you lose your job? What do you do? You even need an emergency fund when you are fully retired because you're just pulling, you know, you know, the money from the accounts and the strategy that you set up. So what do you do with that emergency fund that's, that's a great point. It is, you know, I mean, for me, I'm not going to exhaust it, because I still like to have, you know, and everybody's different, a little bit of that cushion. And, you know, just for in case something happens, right? Roof, Roof flies off, and insurance only pays a certain portion, or whatever,   Tony Mauro  11:43 right, you know, just so we've got it. Not that I couldn't take it out of, you know, my retirement income, but Right, right? I want that to be a certain level, but I, you know, the excess. I certainly plan on doing something else with it, for sure. And yes, so it's kind of a little bit of incentive that, man, all these years just sitting there, hopefully I'll, you know, I can have a chance to use some of that.   Speaker 1  12:02 Yeah, well, and of course, that's always brings back the debate too, of how much is sitting there. Let's make sure it's not being too much do this. It's being too lazy, because you're not going to get that much from the bank. So again, just kind of managing the the robin's egg, aka emergency fund, isn't something important to do. And forgive me my for my cheesy puns there. But all right, let's do one more. Then. I want you to tell me your favorite Easter candy. We're gonna do the classic chocolate bunny almost always in a basket, right, in some form or fashion, right? So, and it's the financial plan, right? It's got to be the, you know, it's the, the main staple.   Tony Mauro  12:36 Yeah, it's the main staple, because it wraps up everything we've just kind of talked about, you know, in the basket. And, you know, I think everybody needs a plan, whether you know or not, you're trying to go at it on your own or paying somebody to help you with it, yeah, I definitely think that a detailed plan that's a working, living document that changes all the time. Yeah, make it your own. You got to be your own, right? Yeah, it's got to be your own. It's got, you know, you've got to have it. That's where an advisor comes in. So you can help customize it, let them kind of keep track of you know, and coach you through you know where you're at along the journey, and making sure that you know it's going to be what your future. You know what you want for your future and what you think is your future at age 30 might be way different by the time you get to 40 and 50, and so you want to be able to change that plan. That's why I say it's always a working document. And you know, just as you go, so that you understand, you know your financial well being at all times, even if you've got assistance coming, you know, from an advisor. I've actually read a few articles lately that actually paying an advisor adds X amount of percentages over time to people's returns. And it's not by, you know, getting them better investments. It's, you know, that's not it. It's really just coaching them and keeping them invested when things are bad, not doing, you know, crazily, what I would call not your best financial decisions, uh, talking them out of some things and allows, you know, their money to work harder and longer for them. So, yeah, interesting. Behavioral management is what we're talking about, yeah, as we're talking about more than investment management, because you literally don't need us for that. There's so many options, right? And we don't have any secret sauce? I mean, you know, yes, there's some strategies and things, but it's really, it's the   Speaker 1  14:24 experience though, right? It's the it's the accumulated experience, same. I mean, it's coaching. I mean, it really is coaching. It is right? I mean, you know, I mean, after a number of years, you know, does the professional athlete still really need you know someone to tell them how, you know, did Tom Brady or Peyton Manning, need, you know, someone to coach them on how to throw the ball. No, right? They know what they're doing, but they were still coaching there to talk to them about, hey, this is this play you ran, you you kind of went off script a little bit. And here's, you know, here's probably what you didn't see and why it went, you know, belly up, you know, or whatever the case is, right? So, you know, coaching is still an important facet to. To anything and, you know, just like your chocolate bunny and your financial plan, like you said, having it being, you know, customized and built to your own, whether you eat the ears first or eat the feet first, or whatever your approach is to eat your chocolate bunny, you know, your financial strategy, you know, same thing, manageable bites, right? Is how you want to handle it, and working with an advisor who helps you, kind of, you know, dissect that and work on all the moving parts, because it's also Tony how they interrelate to each other. Like you said, there's a lot of tools out there now, but having the experience to understand that when you pull this lever, it affects six more things down the way, is also an important thing that's different in retirement than it isn't just the accumulation phase.   Tony Mauro  15:38 Yeah, it is. And I think with with an advisor. There's so much propensity today, with so much information in our fingertips, to that we're just going to do everything ourself. And then you start getting a little more, earning a little more, a little more money. It's like, I just want to pay somebody else to do this, because I don't want to take every minute of my time to say I'm going to research this and this and this. And it takes, it takes forever. You can't be an expert on everything. And so, like I tell all my business owners, and what I try to do my own business is anything that I'm not good at, I farm out and hire out, because I don't want to be an expert in that. Could I Yes, but yeah, I don't want to do that anymore.   Speaker 1  16:17 And life is, life is complicated. There's so much stuff now, and yes, and unfortunately, getting quality people to help you with things. I mean, you know, I own a bit of land. I might, you know, I've got six acres here that my house is on. And every time I try to get a contractor with something, if you kind of feel like, you know, you're not getting good service, and then you wind up, I'll just learn how to do it myself, and I'll just handle it myself. You know, the old adage, if I want anything done, you want something done, right? You have to do it yourself. Do it yourself. Do it yourself. But I think there's a few areas where, if you haven't spent the time on it to understand it and learn it, you got to be careful, right? Because you're asking for to maybe get hurt, and certainly financially speaking, I don't want to make those mistakes when I'm 55 and having issues, or 60 or 65 and got some health issues, and, you know, I don't want to, I don't have the time, or maybe the physical, you know, or mental capacity to go deal with fixing those mistakes, right? So turning to a professional in that regard makes a lot of sense. And I can build my own house at 65 right? Because I don't know enough about house building.   Tony Mauro  17:16 So no, I tell people, you know, this isn't a dress rehearsal. We only got one shot at this, right? And you know, we're not getting out of here alive. So we, you know, especially in the financial planning area, you don't have a lot of second chances, maybe a few,   Speaker 1  17:29 but maybe a few, right? But they get thinner and thinner quickly. So yeah, yeah, for sure. All right, down to it. What's your favorite candy? My favorite Easter candy I could eat a whole bag of is actually, it's just really a Reese's Peanut Butter Cup, but they shape them in eggs. You know, it looks like an egg, yeah? And, I mean, that could be the chocolate bunny equivalent. I think, because they don't, don't, they make a chocolate bunny as well. That's a Reese's. I think they do, yeah, they may, now, yeah.   Tony Mauro  17:53 And I may, I may have, what a nice, big one, because I do like chocolate   Speaker 1  17:58 peanut butter, yes, yeah. Reese's have become a staple, I would say for sure. And it could be the Reese's Pieces too, Reese's Pieces. And sometimes Reese's Pieces replaces the jelly beans in the in the bag for the color and different things. So whatever your candy is, though, right? You know, good Easter basket has a little bit of everything. And that is my analogy to, you know, just retirement strategy. You know, your retirement Easter basket, if you will, should have a little bit of everything, right? We talked about diversification Tony. It's portfolio diversification, it's tax diversification, it's maybe insurance products diversification, right? So there's a lot of pieces you can be diversified in.   Tony Mauro  18:35 There is, and I think, you know, you just want to make sure that, I would say your goal is to make sure that you're well diversified, and that you are covering all the aspects of planning, maybe not just one or two, just like you would with a good Easter basket. You got a bunch of candy in there. You don't want just one of just the Reese's. You want a little everything, especially as a kid. That's right, the more you had, the better.   Speaker 1  18:59 That's right. You want that basket stocked, and so should your retirement strategy be as well as gonna do it this week, hopefully you had a little fun with us along the way, and maybe enjoy just a little bit of Easter candy. As I joked earlier, when we get older, it's like, Man, I'd love to have some more of this, but I just don't know that my stomach will allow me to anymore, or my waistline, but whatever your case is, have a Happy Easter, and we will see you next time here on plan with the tax man. On This episode of The Right Side:  Doug Billings explains Benjamin Netanyahu's March 19, 2026 speech quote—"Jesus Christ has no advantage over Genghis Khan"—has many Christians calling it blasphemous. In this supercharged continuation, Courtenay Turner sits down with Michael King to map a repeatable architecture of influence that operates across eras, institutions, and ideologies. Rather than focusing only on “who did it,” Michael argues for tracking method—how populations get unmoored from inherited certainty, pushed into contradiction, and then offered relief narratives that become default lenses for reality. We explore: skepticism as the first stage of initiation; “controlled dialectics” where visible conflict can be structured toward predictable outcomes; the Enlightenment as a filtering mechanism; the philosophical pipeline from Descartes to Marx; cognitive dissonance as a governance lever; the role of education and “whole child” frameworks; noosphere/Aquarian-era framing as a spiritual UI for consent; and how environments—from the Palais-Royal to modern mass events—can function as initiation-by-ambience. We close with a practical protocol for spotting contradiction traps, definition games, and the soft-power packaging that precedes enforcement. Enjoyed this episode? Biblical Stewardship

https://www.uncommen.org/wp-content/uploads/2026/02/Money-Talk.mp3 Quick Answers What is Biblical Stewardship? It is the recognition that God owns everything, and we are merely managers of His resources. It shifts the burden of "providing" from your shoulders to His. Is money the root of all evil? No. Scripture says the love of money is the root of all kinds of evil. Money itself is morally neutral; it is a tool that reveals where your heart truly lies. Will more money solve my anxiety? Likely not. Anxiety often scales with income. True peace comes from trusting the Provider, not the size of the provision. How do I start budgeting with my spouse? Separate the "business" of the budget from the "romance" of the relationship. Don't ruin date night with a spreadsheet; schedule a specific time to talk numbers. Why is tithing important? It isn't about paying the church's light bill; it's a spiritual discipline that breaks the grip of greed and reminds us who the true Owner is. The Weight of the Wallet Man, we have all been there. You open the banking app on your phone, and your stomach drops. The number isn't what you thought it was. Suddenly, the transmission on the truck sounds a little clunky, the kids need braces, and you feel that familiar tightening in your chest. The world tells men that their worth is directly tied to their net worth. If you can provide, you are a success. If you are struggling, you are a failure. That pressure is crushing, and it keeps millions of men awake at night, staring at the ceiling, doing mental math that never seems to add up. But here is the hard truth: the anxiety you feel about money often has very little to do with the actual amount in your account. We assume that if we just hit that "magic number"—the next raise, the paid-off mortgage, the lottery win—the fear will vanish. It won't. The only thing that truly alleviates financial anxiety is a fundamental shift in perspective. We have to move from a mindset of ownership to a mindset of Biblical Stewardship. When you realize you aren't the owner of the resources, but merely the manager, the pressure begins to lift. Defining the Terms: What is Biblical Stewardship? In church circles, we hear the word "stewardship" and immediately clutch our wallets because we assume it's code for "the pastor needs a new roof." But Biblical Stewardship is far more expansive and liberating than just a Sunday offering. Biblical Stewardship is the theological belief that God is the owner of everything—your money, your house, your car, your talent, and even your next breath. Psalm 24:1 is clear: "The earth is the Lord's, and everything in it." If you are the "owner" of your life, then every financial hit is a personal attack on your security. If the market crashes, you lost. If the water heater breaks, your kingdom is crumbling. That is a heavy burden to carry. However, if you embrace Biblical Stewardship, your role shifts. You are now the asset manager for the Creator of the Universe. Your job isn't to hoard or to worry; your job is to ask, "Lord, how do You want me to manage these resources You have entrusted to me for this season?" The success of the "fund" ultimately rests on His sovereignty, not your striving. The Great Misquote: Money vs. The Heart To understand Biblical Stewardship, we have to clear up one of the most common lies men believe. You have probably heard someone say, "Well, money is the root of all evil." That is technically incorrect. The Apostle Paul actually wrote to Timothy that "the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil" (1 Timothy 6:10). There is a massive difference. Money is just paper and metal. It has no moral agency. It can be used to traffic humans, or it can be used to build orphanages. The money isn't evil; the heart handling it is where the danger lies. When we fail to practice Biblical Stewardship, we start to love the gift more than the Giver. We look to the bank account for the security and peace that only God can provide. That is when money becomes an idol. And like all idols, it will eventually crush its worshippers. True Biblical Stewardship requires us to hold money with an open hand. We respect it as a tool, but we refuse to worship it as a god. The "Just A Little More" Trap You might be thinking, "That's all great theology, but I have real bills. If I just had an extra $10,000 a year, I wouldn't be stressed." Don't be so sure. The podcast hosts discussed a phenomenon that every financial advisor has seen: the moving goalpost. You can talk to a man making $40,000 a year, and he is stressed. You can talk to a man making $400,000 a year, and he is also stressed. The lifestyle inflates to match the income. The guy making minimum wage worries about rent; the guy making millions worries about the stock market or losing his empire. There is a story of a billionaire who was asked, "How much money is enough?" His answer? "Just one more dollar." Without Biblical Stewardship grounding you, "enough" is a horizon you can never reach. You will chase it until you are in the grave. The practice of Biblical Stewardship teaches us contentment. It reminds us that our provision comes from the Lord, not from our hustle. It allows a man to look at what he has—whether it is little or much—and say, "Thank You, Lord. How should we use this?" rather than, "It's not enough." Practical Steps to Biblical Stewardship So, how do we move this from a theological concept to a Tuesday morning reality? Biblical Stewardship is practical. It shows up in how we budget, how we spend, and how we talk to our spouses. 1. The Budget is a Spiritual Tool If you don't know where your money is going, you aren't managing God's resources; you are losing them. Biblical Stewardship requires a plan. It's not about being a penny-pincher; it's about being intentional. Sit down and look at the numbers. Be honest. Ignoring the debt won't make it disappear. God can't bless a mess that you refuse to look at. By creating a budget, you are telling your money where to go instead of wondering where it went. 2. Separate Finance from Romance Money is the number one cause of divorce. Why? Because we mix the stress of the bills with the intimacy of the relationship. Here is a pro-tip from the podcast: Don't do the budget on date night. Date night is for connection, dreaming, and enjoying each other. If you bring up the credit card bill over appetizers, the night is over. Schedule a separate "business meeting" for the household. During that meeting, practice Biblical Stewardship together. Pray over the bills. Ask God for wisdom. Then, when date night comes, leave the spreadsheet at home. 3. Build Margin for the Broken World A key component of Biblical Stewardship is preparation. The podcast noted that many men live "vacation to vacation" rather than preparing for the inevitable emergencies. If you spend every dime you make, you are presuming on the future. When the transmission blows or the medical emergency hits, you are forced into debt, which creates more anxiety. Biblical Stewardship involves the wisdom of the ant (Proverbs 6:6)—storing up in the summer so you are ready for the winter. Building an emergency fund isn't hoarding; it's responsible management that protects your family from the unexpected. The Tithing Question You can't talk about Biblical Stewardship without talking about giving. Why does God ask us to give? Does He need our money? No. He owns the cattle on a thousand hills. He doesn't need your check to keep the lights on in heaven. God commands us to give because He knows how easily money can grip our hearts. Giving is the antidote to greed. When you write that tithe check or support that missionary, you are physically declaring, "God, I trust You more than I trust this money." It is an act of rebellion against the scarcity mindset of the world. Some men get hung up on the "net vs. gross" argument or the specific percentages. They miss the heart of Biblical Stewardship. The goal isn't to check a legalistic box; the goal is to develop a generous spirit that mimics the generosity of God. As the podcast mentioned, we shouldn't just think about "paying the church's electric bill." We are investing in the Kingdom. From Anxiety to Trust The transition to Biblical Stewardship is rarely instant. It is a journey. You will have months where you fail. You will have moments where the fear grips you again. But the more you practice this mindset, the more you will find a strange, settled peace. You will realize that your identity isn't in your bank balance. You will stop looking at your neighbor's new truck with envy because you know you are running a different race. You will find joy in being a conduit of blessing rather than just a reservoir of cash. God wants you to be free. He doesn't want you enslaved to debt or paralyzed by the fear of the future. He invites you into the partnership of Biblical Stewardship so that you can experience the joy of trusting Him. When the bills stack up, take a deep breath. Remind yourself: "I am a manager, not the owner. God, show me what to do with what I have." A Challenge for the Steward This week, take one step toward Biblical Stewardship. Maybe it's finally opening that scary envelope from the bank. Maybe it's setting up a time to talk to your wife about the budget without fighting. Maybe it's giving something away just to prove to yourself that money doesn't own you. The world says, "Get all you can, can all you get, and sit on the can." But you aren't called to be like the world. If you are going to be something, be uncommen. Check out our other resources in our library. Follow Our Podcast on Apple | Spotify

Healing from Church Hurt

Uncommen: Man to Man

Play Episode Listen Later Feb 7, 2026 14:09

https://www.uncommen.org/wp-content/uploads/2026/02/Church-Hurt.mp3 Quick Answers Is church hurt real? Yes. It isn't just "feelings"; it is often the result of broken trust, bad teaching, or leadership failure. Should I stay home? While isolation feels safe, the "PJs and YouTube" model cannot replace the community and accountability of the local church. How do I start healing from church hurt? Healing begins by separating the character of God from the failures of men and re-engaging with Scripture for yourself. What if it wasn't "hurt"? Sometimes what we call "hurt" is actually the Holy Spirit convicting us of sin through a difficult message. Is there a "Plan B"? The local church remains God's "Plan A" for the world, despite the fact that it is filled with broken people. The Invisible Scar Man, you've been there. You walk into a lobby, the smell of cheap coffee hits you, and suddenly your chest tightens. You remember the meeting behind closed doors, the legalistic comment made about your family, or the pastor who turned out to be someone completely different behind the scenes. You aren't "weak" for feeling this. You are reacting to a breach of a sacred trust. When we talk about healing from church hurt, we have to start by acknowledging that the pain is legitimate. For many men, the church was supposed to be the one place where they didn't have to keep their guard up. When that environment becomes the source of the wound, the natural instinct is to retreat, bunker down, and vow never to get burned again. But here is the hard truth: staying in the bunker won't heal the wound; it only lets it fester into cynicism. Defining the Damage: Hurt vs. Conviction One of the most important steps in healing from church hurt is identifying exactly what happened. In our current culture, "hurt" has become a catch-all term, but there is a massive difference between being wounded by a person and being convicted by the Truth. The podcast hosts made a vital distinction: if you left a church because the pastor talked about lust, greed, or pride, and it made you "feel some kind of way," that isn't church hurt. That is the Holy Spirit doing His job. Real healing from church hurt involves a gut-check. Are you mad at the messenger because the message was true? Or were you truly mistreated by a "broken, sinful person" in a position of authority? If a leader used their platform to shame you, manipulate you, or offer bad theology in the face of tragedy—like the story of the pastor telling a grieving family their daughter's accident was due to their sin—that is a legitimate wound that requires a process of restoration. The "PJs and YouTube" Trap Since the COVID-19 era, many men have traded the sanctuary for the sofa. It feels safer. You can't get burned by a screen. You can change the channel the moment the teaching gets too close to home. But this "pseudo-soul feeding" is a dangerous substitute for the real thing. Healing from church hurt cannot happen in total isolation. You were designed for the "gathering of the saints". When you stay home, you lose the iron-sharpening-iron accountability that keeps a man sharp. You lose the opportunity to serve and be served. You might feel "fed" by a podcast, but you aren't known by a community. Broken People in a Holy Place We often forget that the church is not a showroom for saints, but a hospital for sinners. Every person in that building, from the guy in the front row to the man behind the pulpit, is a "broken, sinful person" just like you. When we expect perfection from the local church, we set ourselves up for resentment. Healing from church hurt requires us to adjust our expectations. We don't go to church because the people are perfect; we go because the God they serve is. As the podcast mentioned, "Hurt people, hurt people". Recognizing the humanity of those who hurt you doesn't excuse their behavior, but it can be the first step toward the forgiveness that sets you free. The Role of Scripture in Your Recovery If you want to move toward healing from church hurt, you have to stop being "spoon-fed". A major cause of spiritual wounding is a lack of personal biblical literacy. If you don't know the Word for yourself, you are vulnerable to "false teachers" or "misinformed" leaders who spout nonsense as if it were Gospel. You need to "crave the Bible" and study it enough so that if someone quotes it incorrectly, you catch it immediately. When your foundation is built on the actual text of Scripture rather than a personality behind a pulpit, your faith becomes much harder to shake. Healing from church hurt often starts with a man opening his own Bible and saying, "Lord, show me who You really are, regardless of what that last guy said." Five Practical Steps for Healing from Church Hurt 1. Separate God from His "Salesmen" The biggest casualty of church hurt is often our view of God. We assume that because a leader was cruel, God is cruel. Because a church was disorganized, God is chaotic. Healing from church hurt requires you to consciously decouple the Creator from the flawed people who claim to represent Him. 2. Practice "70 x 7" Forgiveness The podcast reminded us that we are called to forgive "seventy times seven". This isn't a suggestion; it's a command for our own survival. Holding onto bitterness is like drinking poison and waiting for the other person to die. Healing from church hurt isn't about saying what happened was "okay"; it's about handing the debt over to God so you don't have to carry the ledger anymore. 3. Seek a "New Model" If the "model" of church you were in featured sarcasm, control, or heresy, it's time to find a healthy community. Not every church is like the one that burned you. Look for a "Church Home" where the leaders invite you to "do your own research" and read along in the Word. 4. Engage in "Breath Prayers" When the anxiety of re-entering a church space hits, use small physical and spiritual shifts. A simple prayer like "Lord, give me peace" can reset your nervous system. These small acts of trust are vital components of healing from church hurt. 5. Stop the "Silent Retreat" Tell a trusted friend what happened. Silence is where shame and bitterness grow. By bringing the hurt into the light, you rob it of its power. A key to healing from church hurt is realizing you aren't the only one who has walked this path. When It's Time to Move On There is a time for reconciliation, and there is a time for relocation. If the teaching in your current environment is "straight up the opposite of what the Lord said," you have an obligation to lead yourself and your family elsewhere. Healing from church hurt sometimes looks like a clean break from a toxic environment so you can find a place where the Gospel is actually preached. However, make sure you are leaving because of "legitimate church hurt" and not just because the truth got uncomfortable. If you find yourself "changing the channel" every time a pastor mentions a sin you're struggling with, the problem isn't the church—it's the heart. The Goal: A Restored Spirit The ultimate goal of healing from church hurt isn't just to get you back into a seat on Sunday. It's to ensure that you don't "turn your back on your faith" because of a human being's failure. Your relationship with Jesus is too valuable to be held "hostage" by the actions of a broken leader. God wants you to have a "settled kind of calm" that isn't based on a perfect church experience, but on His presence. As you navigate the road of healing from church hurt, remember that Jesus Himself was "hurt" by the religious establishment of His day. He knows the sting of betrayal, and He is the only one who can truly bind up those wounds. FAQs on Healing from Church Hurt How do I know if I'm ready to try a new church? If you can talk about your past experience without a flare-up of intense anger, you are making progress. Healing from church hurt is a journey; you don't have to be 100% "fine" to walk through the doors of a healthy church. What if my wife wants to go, but I'm still too hurt? Be honest with her. Don't just "stay home in your PJs" and let her go alone. Take small steps together. Perhaps start with a small group or a mid-week service where the pressure feels lower. Does "healing from church hurt" mean I have to trust the old leaders again? Forgiveness is mandatory; trust is earned. You can forgive someone for hurting you without putting yourself back under their authority. Is online church enough? Online resources are great supplements, but they aren't a replacement for "the gathering of the saints". You need to be in a room where people know your name and your story. A Challenge for the Wounded Man Don't let a bad experience with a "model" of a man or a church define your eternity. The world will try to convince you that the church is obsolete or toxic, but God calls it His Bride. The challenge today is to take one small step toward healing from church hurt. Pick up your Bible. Reach out to a brother. Decide that your faith is worth more than your past pain. If you are going to be something, be uncommon. Check out our other resources in our library. In this solo episode of The Robyn Ivy Podcast, I reflect on a recent snowstorm in Rhode Island as a surprisingly rich metaphor for how we prepare—physically, emotionally, and spiritually—for life's unknowns. From overbuying at the grocery store to charging batteries just in case, I explore what our storm prep styles reveal about our inner lives. With my signature mix of story, honesty, and grounded wisdom, I offer you a deeper look at how we respond to change, uncertainty, and responsibility. Whether you're someone who stockpiles batteries, forgets the flashlights, or skips prep altogether, this episode will help you better understand your patterns and build more meaningful resilience. If you've ever felt like you were bracing for impact—or caught in a life storm you didn't see coming—this one's for you. 3 Takeaways for You: Your prep style is personal intel. How you handle physical storms mirrors how you approach uncertainty in general—notice your patterns.Presence matters more than perfection. When challenges hit, tuning in to your senses and practicing gratitude can shift stress into awe.Real preparedness includes your mindset. The balance between practical readiness and trust is where true resilience lives. Starting over is awkward. Whether you're back at the gym, wrestling with grief, or stepping into a new routine, the beginning can feel clunky and emotional. In this solo episode, I'm sharing a very real week from my own life—post-snowstorm, post-holiday, mid-humbling workout. I talk about what it's like to be a beginner again, how hard it is to make decisions (even when you want to change), and why it's okay to start messy. You'll hear about building emotional and physical strength, the difference community can make, and how doing “reps”—in any part of life—is what truly creates change. If you're in a season of starting again, this episode will help you feel less alone and more capable than you thought. 3 Listener Takeaways: • The courage to begin again isn't flashy—it's honest, human, and repeatable. • You don't need motivation. You need momentum. One rep at a time. • Give yourself grace. Starting over is still forward. If you had to launch a podcast in 2026 with zero audience, zero momentum, and no shortcuts, you wouldn't start with fancy gear or “clever” branding. You'd start with being found. In this solo episode of As It Relates to Podcasting, Simona Costantini breaks down exactly how she'd launch from scratch today, using what actually works now: search-first episode design, a trailer plus a 3-episode drop, content buckets that help platforms categorize you, and a distribution workflow built before you ever hit publish. You'll learn how to write titles that match what people are already searching, how to craft a keyword-rich show description that makes it instantly clear who the show is for (and why they should care), and how to build an ecosystem where every episode becomes YouTube content, clips, email, and a repeatable publishing checklist. The goal is simple, and it's the whole thesis of this episode: growth stops feeling like a grind when your podcast is designed to be discovered.Inside this episode:Why launching in 2026 starts with search, not gear, branding, or hypeHow to design episodes for discovery before you recordWhy “clever” show names can confuse both audiences and algorithmsWhat to include in a keyword-rich podcast description (and how to answer “why should they care?”)The 3 content buckets strategy that helps platforms categorize your show fasterWhy one-off, random-topic episodes can stall growth (algorithm confusion is real)How to title episodes based on what the conversation actually became (not what you planned)Launching with intent: trailer timing + dropping 3 episodes at once for binge behavior and retentionThe 3 biggest audience questions approach (and why they should be your first three episodes)Why your “Episode 0” should be a solo episode that builds trust and connectionTitles that perform in 2026: question-based and outcome-driven, written like Google searchWhy to submit to Apple + Spotify early (indexing matters)How to build distribution into your workflow (YouTube, clips, blog, email, guest sharing)The simple, repeatable publishing checklist that prevents burnoutThe core launch truth: podcasts aren't built on trends or luck, they're built on clarityResources:

In Episode 2 of the NYE Lollapalooza, Jay Doran is joined again by co-host Mike “Mike Drop” Calhoun, with guests Judd Burdon (Asphalt Kingdom), Reagan Weiss, and Andrew Berman each bringing real-time reflections on growth, relationships, leadership, and the words that will define their next year. The conversation opens with a guiding quote: “Life is not a problem to be solved, but a reality to be experienced.”From there, the group digs into the “word” tradition—what last year required, what this year demands, and how transformation actually happens when the calendar turns.Judd shares a year marked by Change—a move across countries, leadership shifts, and a powerful “day with Jay” that reframed what's possible. His word for 2026 becomes Integration, as he maps a bigger ecosystem across e-commerce, manufacturing, brick-and-mortar expansion, and technology.Reagan reflects on a year of Relationships—and why his 2026 word is Obedience: obedience to God, family, and the relationships he's been given stewardship over. Andrew Berman joins the conversation to unpack his word, Accountability, and the structure required to actually live it—especially as a leader scaling a team and organization.Along the way, they debate founder vs CEO mindsets, discuss what makes real advisors different from coaches and consultants, and return to the core theme of the day: proximity can spark transformation—but only if your mindset is ready to receive it.If you're entering a new year looking for clarity, better questions, and a deeper standard—this episode is your reset. If you want, I can also do a shorter description (60–90 words) for Apple/Spotify and a YouTube description with timestamps.

Dr. Kirsten Viola Harrison unpacks soul integration: 35+ years in psychology, supporting stepdaughter w/ Smith-Magenis syndrome sparked ND focus; befriending unhoused intersex Sean/a (schizophrenia, 8 years on cardboard—now empowered via GoFundMe/advocacy) inspired I, Sean/a: The Story of a Homeless Intersex Woman Who Inspired a Community. DID (Dissociative Identity Disorder): Childhood trauma splits (behaviors/sensations/emotions/knowledge) for survival—somatic tools (body holds score), spiritual protection (near-death-like out-of-body). Energy for ND: Tune vibes (headphones/silence for decompression, power walks for release), protect via boundaries/allies (quantum non-local influence). Surviving vs. thriving: Claim 'genius pockets' (e.g., Disney for processing), gratitude resets (thank breath/pillows—builds from small wins). For late-dx adults forgiving meltdowns/triggers, parents fostering safety, or allies ending stigma (intersex rights, no non-consensual surgery), Kirsten's 'we all mask—find your light' flips shame to authenticity.
