It says its closed for safey reasons due to an unacceptable risk. But a collective of recreational groups claims shutting the track is illegal and there's a wider pattern of unacceptable closures across the conservation estate. The Federated Mountain Clubs of New Zealand is threatening legal action if DOC does not take down any material sayng the track is shut. Club President, Megan Dimo-zantos spoke with Lisa Owen.

Xander Harwood was chosen as a Beck's Player with Heart for his dedication and passion on and off the field. At school, Xander is involved in football, baseball, and track. Through these activities, he has learned the importance of friendship and communication. He is thankful to be able to meet people he never thought he would meet. Outside of school, Xander gives back by volunteering in his community and the surrounding areas. He also works as a mechanic, helping farmers maintain and repair their equipment. Through this work, he has developed a deep respect for agriculture and the people behind it. Although he did not grow up on a farm, agriculture means a great deal to Xander. By working on farm equipment, he has come to understand that farming involves far more than planting and harvesting. It requires long days, sacrifice, and dedication to provide food for families around the world. He is grateful for the hard work farmers put in to support their communities. He plans to attend Iowa Lakes Community College to earn a degree in farm equipment mechanics.See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

For at least nine months in the twelve, the people of this rare old town live out of doors nearly all the waking hours of the twenty-four. For the remaining three months of the year, December, January, and February, they delude themselves into the notion that they are having a winter, when they gather around a winter-time hearth and listen to imaginary wind-roarings in the chimney, and see through the panes fictitious and spectral snow-storms, and dream that they are housed so snug and warm. But when the day comes the sun is shining and there is no trace of white on the ground, and the grass is green and there are industrious buds breaking out of cover, and the earth is sleeping very lightly. Open-eyed, the youngsters sit by these December firesides and listen to their elders tell of the snow-storms in the long ago that came so very, very deep, when snowballs were flying in the streets, and the earth was white, and the 'banquettes,' or sidewalks, were ankle-deep in slush. What if the missing piece in your leadership isn't a new tactic but a new identity? Coach and author Quinn Harwood joins us to unpack the Power of You, a practical path for zillennial leaders who crave meaning, impact, and confidence that lasts. We dig into his coaching fable, Growth Time, where each stop on a life journey mirrors a growth zone leaders must face, from escaping Uville's ego traps to choosing a weekly mindset that actually moves your mission.Quinn doesn't preach from the podium; he shares from the trenches. He opens up about the highs of pro basketball and the lows of losing a long-time role and walking through a painful divorce. Out of that life quake came structure, purpose, and a mantra he now coaches every week: mindset changes behavior. You'll hear how Monday Movers, his free mindset ritual, helps leaders replace doom scrolling with deliberate focus, turn confidence into a practice, and show up for hard conversations with clarity and conviction. We also explore how faith, service, and legacy shape uncommon leadership. Quinn carries his father's charge—help others help others—into every chapter of his work, translating purpose into daily habits: early training sessions to prime the mind, simple commitments that stick, and consistent shots taken when the game gets tight. If you're a mission-driven professional who wants more than metrics, this conversation offers a clear, doable roadmap to build real confidence, align ambition with values, and lead with impact.Subscribe now, share this with a friend who needs Monday momentum, and leave a quick review so more mission movers can find the show. Then tell us: what mindset will you commit to this week?
On this episode of Plain Talk, me and co-host Chad Oban react to more tragedy in Minneapolis, with the killing of Renee Good. The facts of what happened are still being established, but what did we think was going to happen when federal agents are operating under an administration intent on enforcing federal law in the most aggressive, most provactive way possible? Also on this episode, Fargo mayoral candidates Josh Boschee and Denise Kolpack join to discuss their newly-announced campaigns. Kolpack is a current member of the city commission, and the deputy mayor, while Boschee is a Democrat elected to the state legislature. Boschee talked about his skill working across ideological divides, as well as his familiarity with how things operate in Bismarck. He also said he's glad he doesn't have to pretend like he's not a Democrat, despite the mayoral race being officially nonpartisan. Kolpack, meanwhile, said her experience in local government is what counts. She said he's pushed back on some bad ideas from the commission, and would work to alleviate some of the dysfunction there. Both candidates weighed in on Fargo's controversial handling of the Applied Digital data center in the works in Harwood. Kolpack said Fargo acted like a bully. Boschee said he'd have done a better job of setting the city's priorities and communicating them. If you want to participate in Plain Talk, just give us a call or text at 701-587-3141. We're officially back from our break, and we do apologize for the awkwardness. We may have forgotten how to be podcasters. In this episode, we ease back into things, talk about just how many books we somehow managed to read while away (not many), and what we are currently reading. We also take a deep dive into our pick of the week, A Steep And Savage Path. About The Book: Irina is about to be married to a dead man. She is the willing village sacrifice for the Wedding of the Dead: a desperate ritual designed to lay the hungry vampire that has been terrorising her Transylvanian village to rest. Irina's beloved sister's soul is trapped in the land of the dead. If Irina can retrieve it, she could bring her back – but Irina would need a guide, one who can walk between the living and the dead. Irina strikes up a deal with her new husband – if he agrees to get her safely there and back again, then he can drink her blood as much as he wants. They begin a perilous journey through the afterlife together, in which Irina realises Stefan isn't the cruel and terrifying monster that she thought. In a land of three-headed beasts, winged creatures and walking corpses, the last thing Irina would have expected was to fall in love. Only, Irina learns that by bringing Stefan to the land of the dead, she has put him in grave danger, and will be faced with an impossible choice. Will they be able to make it out, undead or alive? You know that sting in your chest when one of your kids says "I hate you" or slams their door in anger? Every instinct in you wants to smooth it over, to fix it, to make them not be mad at you anymore. But what if your discomfort with their anger is actually getting in the way of the connection you're trying to build? While the Plain Talk team is taking the holiday off, we're bringing back one of our most-listened-to episodes of the past year — an interview that's become even more relevant as debates over data centers continue across North Dakota. In this replay, Applied Digital CEO Wes Cummins joins the show to discuss the company's rapid expansion in North Dakota, including two operational data center projects and a third planned near Fargo. That expansion has sparked a high-stakes tug-of-war between the city of Fargo and the city of Harwood, each looking to annex the land and capture the tax revenue generated by the new facility. He also responds directly to concerns raised around the Harwood project, including public frustration over nondisclosure agreements signed by local officials, questions about transparency, and fears that large data-center power demands could drive up electric rates for residents. Whether you've followed the Harwood–Fargo battle closely or you're just trying to understand what data centers mean for North Dakota's economy, energy grid, and future competitiveness, this conversation is worth a listen. We'll be back with a new episode on December 3 — enjoy the replay and the rest of your holiday weekend!

Here's what we know about political violence in America: it's getting worse. Here's what we think we know about why: polarization, social media, extreme rhetoric. But what if we're looking at this all wrong?Rich Harwood has spent the last 30 years in the places many of us have written off—communities fractured by poverty, loss, and division. What he's found in those places challenges our assumptions about where progress begins. It's not happening in Washington. It's not playing out on cable news. It's emerging, quietly but powerfully, through a reawakening of what Harwood calls civic culture—the often-invisible fabric of how we live together, trust each other, and shape the future we want.Rather than simply addressing polarization as a political problem, Harwood argues we're living through something deeper: a crisis of belonging. His book, The New Civic Path, maps out a way to reverse that trend—not by starting with grand unifying movements, but by starting small, building momentum, and restoring belief in what's possible together. In this conversation—recorded just a day after a harrowing act of political violence—Harwood offers a rare kind of clarity. Not a feel-good story, but a practical invitation to shift how we work, lead, and rebuild. For anyone seeking a way forward in a time of fracture, this episode offers something even more vital than answers: it offers a way to begin.Links and NotesThe Harwood Institute for Public InnovationRich Harwood's book "The New Civic Path: Restoring Our Belief in One Another and Our Nation"Reading, Pennsylvania community reportMission Forward Podcast previous episode with Dr. John Paul Lederach (00:00) - Welcome to Mission Forward (03:44) - How do we process... the moment? What if the secret to more connected parenting isn't about getting everything right — but about showing up enough to make things right when you don't? In this week's episode, Rachael Clinton Chen talks with Eli Harwood, aka @attachmentnerd — licensed therapist, award-winning author, and one of Instagram's most trusted voices on attachment and parenting. They dive into how our own attachment stories shape the way we relate to our kids, why being “good enough” really is enough, and how creating space for repair and consistency beats striving for perfection every time. With a blend of science, personal stories, and down-to-earth advice, Eli reminds us that secure attachment isn't about flawless parenting — it's about presence, patience, and showing up again and again. Whether you're navigating the younger years, parenting teens, or unpacking your own childhood experiences, this conversation offers hope, grounding, and a fresh perspective.
