Arsenal's 1-0 defeat to West Ham wasn't just a loss was a big one. A performance that left the Emirates crowd simmering in disbelief, watching the team unravel was sad. The defending? Shameful.  The urgency? Buried under a mountain of sideways passes and tactical confusion.  Bowen's goal. A cross from Wan-Bissaka that shouldn't have gone through, defenders ball-watching like a tourist. How does a backline that's prided itself on discipline  switch off so catastrophically?   Then there's the red card. Lewis-Skelly's challenge on Kudus was not worthy of a red card. VAR's insistence on upgrading it felt like punishment theater. If that's a clear goalscoring opportunity, then so is a coin toss. A yellow? Fair. But this decision reeked of pedantry over pragmatism.  Odegaard's invisibility? Alarm bells.  When Arsenal needed a conductor, he played the mute. Why did he not get aggressive with shooting? Questions lingering in the ashes: When did “control” become synonymous with cowardice?  This was  a bad day at the office with the blueprint ripped up and set ablaze. The crowd's disconnection from the players? Very odd. No synergy, no spark—just certain moments of coming alive and then groans of resignation.  How does a team with this talent forget its identity so utterly? Crawl into the pod, let's flush out together. Then we regroup and push forward. On to the next!

Ted and Ravi discuss the summer windows for Manchester United, Southampton, Tottenham, West Ham and Wolves. They start with United's expensive, but sensible, window and how their new signings may fit in the squad. Then comes newly promoted Southampton, who made additions at goalkeeper and to their defense in the hopes of staying up. Tottenham paid up for Dominic Solanke and Archie Gray, while West Ham spent too much on a number of different moves. Finally, we discuss Wolves window and what essentially feels like them playing the lottery. Discover what happens when the strategic prowess of Manchester United clashes with Liverpool's missed opportunities in a game that leaves fans on the edge of their seats. We kick off with a goal-by-goal breakdown of the 2-2 spectacle at Old Trafford, unpacking the defensive blunders and strategical chess that defined the match. Mike joins Jamie to dissect whether United's high-risk game under Ten Hag is a flash in the pan or a glimpse into a winning formula, and we scrutinize Liverpool's chances of ending their season with success after this pulsating encounter. The drama doesn't stop there as we tackle the hotly debated penalty involving Wan-Bissaka and Elliot, along with Casemiro's hair-raising challenge. Our conversation takes a twist to Liverpool's European journey and the resilience of Manchester City, while not forgetting to shine a light on Arsenal's defensive masterclass propelling them towards a possible title. With sharp commentary from Mike, we don't shy away from Klopp's psychological tactics and the contentious Lamptey-Jesus penalty, offering you an arsenal of insights that go beyond the surface-level analysis. Finally, we scrutinize Chelsea's stumbling blocks, and Everton's recent joy. The battle for fourth and relegation roulette. The VAR debate heats up in ref watch. We close out by considering the potential repercussions of domestic matches played abroad on the league's quality and the fabric of the fan experience, all while keeping you anchored in the passion that makes football more than just a game. All reviews, likes, shares and of course listens are hugely appreciated! It's an international break but that doesn't mean that the coverage of Arsenal needs to stop. In the latest episode, Adam and Scott talk about the Ramsdale vs Raya debate and when we might see David Raya make his first appearance for Arsenal. There is a report in the Daily Mail (YMMV here on believability) that Raya might be due for a run in the first team:"Mail Sport understands Gunners head coach Mikel Arteta is giving serious consideration to giving Raya, a loan arrival from Brentford, a prolonged first-team opportunity in the coming weeks."There is also discussion about the early goal-keeping stats that are floating around about Ramsdale and how much stock to put into that.Later is the discussion of the Ballon d'Or nominations for three Arsenal players. This is the first time in a long time (going back to Alexis Sanchez) that an Arsenal player has had the honor. To wrap up part one is a look back on Nicolas Pepe and his time at Arsenal coming to an end.Should Arsenal have done better with the scouting and recruitment? How does this look in hindsight and what do we learn from this transfer. Last is a discussion of the PGMOL releasing select audio between the referee and the video assistant referee for contentious calls. One of those was the penalty decision for Kai Havertz. Here is what Howard Webb said about the incident. Howard Webb: “And I was watching this game and thought to myself, that looks like a penalty kick. At full speed as Kai Havertz goes between Wan-Bissaka and Casemiro. The penalty was given and we know that the VAR will always check every penalty situation.“It was a good use of VAR. The referee believed that Wan-Bissaka had tripped Havertz, but the video shows something quite different that there's no actual contact initially.“Another step by Havertz, his leg goes into Wan-Bissaka. The VAR, really calm and concise, recognises all of that, thinks it's a clear and obvious error. I agree. Recommends a review. We get to the right decision.”It is positive to hear the process but it still needs to probably be refined more. Thanks for listening, If you enjoyed this episode and you'd like to help support the podcast, please subscribe and consider leaving a rating and review. What lessons can Manchester United take from Brighton's new star Kauro Mitoma and Arsenal's pursuit of the Seagulls' midfielder Moises Caicedo? That's one discussion of many in the latest Manchester United Weekly Podcast with Harry Robinson and Jack Tait. The two Reds react to a 3-1 victory over Reading in the FA Cup at Old Trafford which sees Erik Ten Hag's side through to the Fifth Round. Ten Hag is the first United manager in history to win his first six domestic cup matches. They listen to some wonderful Beatles-inspired commentary of Casemiro's lovely second goal and discuss the Brazilian's influence on Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Antony's excellent assist and progress. Christian Eriksen left M16 on crutches on Saturday night, so what would his absence mean for the team? Answering questions from the podcast's Patrons, Harry and Jack determine how much credit is due to United's way for the signings made last summer and whether the Reds should make a move for Brighton's Mitoma, or whether his good form can give the club a different lesson entirely. The boys play guess the player and provide an extensive youth, loan and United Women round-up with cup progress for Marc Skinner's side, two lovely goals for the U21s and a potential move away for FA Youth Cup-winning striker Charlie McNeill in League Two. Obviously, Casemiro was sensational on Saturday and Ten Hag can take a lot of credit for the team's good form but overall singings have been pretty good so far this season- I even think Weghorst is a really good short-term solution/ squad player. (From Ted Popham, Patron since *) 32:25 Patreon question: Finally a question about my favourite non-United player to watch at the moment, Mitoma. How good do you think he is/could be? I really love watching him play and would love to see United get him instead of another top 6 club. If United were to get him, would he be a good signing? He could give squad depth plus competition for spaces- the type of signing City make all the time. Or do we already have too many left-wingers, especially with Garnacho needing game time? Manchester United are stepping into a new era, and for this new era to officially begin, a lot will have to be done in the transfer window. Already there have been departures with Pogba, Mata, Lingard, and Matic having already said their official goodbyes and the likes of Tuanzebe, Cavani, Wan Bissaka, and Bailly expected to follow suit in the coming days. However, there hasn't been much movement in the entrance door as there has been in the exit. But Erik Ten Hag, the new Man United manager, has his eyes on quite a number of players. Top of that list is Barcelona's Frenkie de Jong. The Dutch manager is looking to leverage on his relationship with the midfielder which was developed when they were together at Ajax to lure him over to England. But de Jong doesn't seem very interested in making the move to England right now.

Welcome to the First State Kopites podcast. It's episode 29 of season 3 - a podcast for Liverpool supporters in Delaware and friends of those Liverpool supporters. Thanks for listening on your preferred platform, we are available on ALL of them (and on YouTube). Hi Sean, Hi Daz, it's been a lower excitement week after the EFL Cup win - progress in the FA Cup to the last 8 and quite a challenging League game against West Ham: The games: Norwich - 2-1; felt too easy until Rashica scored, Luis Diaz and Sadio Mane arriving at the end had to tell Norwich that it was over. West Ham - close in terms of xG. Watching it back, feels like we should have been comfortable in this game. Lot more reflection on: How unlucky West Ham were… How many players didn't play as well as they could The deficiencies of xG - the ball that rolled around their goal line had 0.0xG Luis Diaz - what would a pre-season do… Games coming up.. Inter and Brighton…. Other narratives: Tomkins Times - Salah foul breakdown - #onlySalah needs to play more than a game to get a foul Man Utd - Sean is wrong surely. Wan-Bissaka is good in the way 1980s right backs could be considered competent. Chelsea - is their Russian golden age over? Everton - Munch painting emoji We'll be back next week after the Brighton game. Thanks to Daz and Sean - if you enjoyed the podcast, share it with a friend. Episode 14! Ole in! The world is on fire, but never fear--the sirens are ringing and we're riding in, in our special suits. Today, on a spicy edition of The TTSP, Will drives a discussion on a Manchester United team that is hopelessly trying to break free of an eternity of water treading. Or are they? It's jam packed with surprises and our most moronic, albeit still somewhat substantive show yet. Woo!We start with a new segment, whose name we'll leave as a present for those who tune in, where we discuss all sorts of ranging topics. From Koeman's dismissal and Gladbach's 5-0 victory over Bayern, to David Alaba and Manuel Locatelli, it's a news reporting bonanza up in here. Following the bit, the fellas reveal their second momentous occasion of the evening--and boy is it momentous. As Will proceeds to take the reigns, he begins the chat by commending Liverpool. It's short and sweet, and without much need for elaboration, as he soon sidesteps quickly to the elephant in the room. We must analyze United's baffling performances, on the field. There's a reminder of the match's main events, including Ronaldo's awesome gut-punt (very nice Cris!), and some general commentary regarding the symbolism of each key event. This segues into some details revolving United's structural problems, an ineptitude when it comes to the fundamentals, an utterly illogical recruitment strategy, and more. Martin hammers home the notion that United are amidst an identity crisis, full of tactical and directional uncertainty. They rip blankets, don't curve their pressing runs, and leave only 2 miserable soldiers in their largest, most vulnerable spaces. In the second half (or third third, I suppose), Will leads as the lads take on the bigger questions. Why is Ole still here? What do the Glazers want? Is there anything shared between the desires of the fans and the owners? What are Ole's tactics? Why did he get here in the first place? Is he an impostor or actually completely ideal? There's some talk on his good qualities, though it only lasts momentarily, before Martin exposes a curated list of total incongruencies within the United squad. Sancho works when he has overlapping wingbacks. Wan Bissaka works when you don't want them. Time and time again, this team reminds us of what it means to be a walking contradiction. Do they want to possess? Do they want to counter? Do they want to press? Do they want to hunker down? Do they want a team for the future? Do they want a team for now?As the soul searching comes to a temporary pause, Will closes with the argument that perhaps this is exactly what United wants. And while it sounds like almost an insult .. here us out, because maybe it is.PART TWO coming soon.Join us to hear our thoughts on all these items, and more--including a suspiciously robbed PSG player, Burtis Clones getting his ass kicked for no reason, a Liverpool fan that just can't stop watching United, a Pogbaian tragedy, some expected van Gaal and Mourinho juxtapositions, a montage of Touchline Theory best obscure references, Martin's abysmal Fabian Delph impression, Will's formidable Dust-Up prospects, and (speaking of) our brand new, esteemed sponsor: Hooligang!Find us on Twitter @touchlinetheory.Find Martin on Twitter @MG_theory2, and Will @WA_theory!
