As the NHL develops its plan to move forward after pausing the season due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Oilers Entertainment Group COO, Tom Anselmi, met with the media on Friday. It goes without saying that this was a very strange episode of Oilersnation Radio to record after news broke earlier this week that the NHL was suspending the 2019/20 season for the foreseeable future. with that in mind, we wanted to get together to record a new episode of Oilersnation Radio to talk about what's going on now and in the short term.  To start off this week's episode, we had to jump in with a look at world events and what's happening with the NHL as the league officially suspended its season on Thursday afternoon. How could we not talk about the Coronavirus pandemic that is sweeping the globe and pausing life as we know it? Along these lines, we tried to come up with ideas for how the NHL might solve its season/playoff issues when they are able to resume play. Obviously, we're all just guessing here but it was a fun conversation anyway. Changing gears, we quickly looked at Tom Anselmi's press conference today and how the Oilers President of Business Operations had few answers when asked about what comes next. Lastly, we finished off this week's show by having two of our German guests, Tim and Christian, talking about their experience on their trip to Edmonton and how much fun they had in spite of the league taking a hard left turn midway through. As always, it was another packed episode of the podcast and we're thrilled you're here to listen to it.Â

Tom Anselmi is the lead singer of the Eighties punk rock band "Slow". The Band released a few albums before their break up. one of those releases is the EP "Against the Glass" for which Chart Magazine credits it to be #17 of beast Canadian Albums of all time. Toronto FC never looked like they were at the level of their opposition as the Portland Timbers soundly outplayed the Reds and saw them off in a 4-0 route. TFC held on as long as they could, but awful defensive errors undid any positives and underscored a huge gap between where Toronto is now and where they need to go. As well we discuss the firings of Kevin Payne, Earl Cochrane and say adios to Tom Anselmi.

The Reds get off to a bad start and were unable to fight back, losing 3-2 to the San Jose Earthquakes. An early penalty put TFC on their heels and at the end of the night, Chris Wondolowski was the man, putting three past Stefan Frei. On a week where Tom Anselmi is trying to justify the ticket price increase, he fails to mention anything about building a winner and perhaps this is why. Looking at year four without a sniff at the playoffs, all that's left is the mathematics to determine what has looked to be the case for the last two weeks. It's breaking down the ninety minutes, some serious whinging, and stern finger pointing at MLSE as who knows when this will turn around for the better.
