A live SXSW panel on how employee complaints illuminate the path to organizational innovation.Wrong question: How can AI revolutionize productivity in my organization?Right question: What do my employees hate most about their jobs? For the Portland Trail Blazers, a winning game plan for AI implementation didn't begin with a tech-first approach — it began with a talk-first one. “The whole concept was to talk about pain points," explains David Long, VP of Digital Innovation, describing the "Lunch and Launch" sessions where employees could openly share frustrations about their daily work. “People really enjoy talking about what they hate about their jobs,” says Christa Stout, Executive Vice President and Chief Strategy & Innovation Officer, and as they did, they illuminated opportunities for optimization. “By getting this insight across the whole company, it is already opening our eyes [to how] we can potentially transform the business more broadly,” Stout says.In this special live episode of Think Fast, Talk Smart, recorded at SXSW, host Matt Abrahams leads a panel with Long, Stout, and Stanford colleague Jeremy Utley, exploring how "catharsis catalyzes change.” For any team wanting to implement new technology or rethink workflows, these experts reveal how creating space for complaints can catalyze meaningful innovation throughout an organization.Episode Reference Links:Jeremy UtleyDavid LongChrista StoutEp.77 Quick Thinks: AI Has Entered The Chat – A "Conversation" with ChatGPTEp.134 How to Chat with Bots: The Secrets to Getting the Information You Need from AI Connect:Premium Signup >>>> Think Fast Talk Smart PremiumEmail Questions & Feedback >>> hello@fastersmarter.ioEpisode Transcripts >>> Think Fast Talk Smart WebsiteNewsletter Signup + English Language Learning >>> FasterSmarter.ioThink Fast Talk Smart >>> LinkedIn, Instagram, YouTubeMatt Abrahams >>> LinkedInChapters:(00:00) - Introduction (04:42) - The Business Behind Basketball (06:13) - Why AI and Why Now? The global SaaS (Software as a Service) market is worth billions of dollars. But it won't stay there. Analysts predict that by 2032, it will exceed $1 trillion in value. But it comes as no surprise. By the end of 2024, 99% of organisations used at least one SaaS application, with an average of 112 different web tools per company. Meaning that most businesses, big and small, and from all sectors, rely on online applications as the backbone for their operations. Look over these statistics: In 2025, 85% of business apps will be subscription-based. Corporations with over 10,000 employees use around 447 online services. Between 2013 and 2020, the software as a service field grew by 500%. To date, 30,800 SaaS companies are on the market, with the United States holding the largest share. Flexibility, scalability, and accessibility are the driving forces behind this widespread adoption. These are crucial advantages, as many organisations are adapting to hybrid work and digital-first processes. In this podcast, we delve into five key areas where SaaS tools are transforming business operations. Listen to the full episode...
Today, it is my pleasure to speak with Drew McMorrow, President & CEO of Ballentine Partners, an independent wealth management firm providing comprehensive investment and family office services to wealthy families and entrepreneurs. In addition to being responsible for the day-to-day management of the company, Drew also continues to consult with families on all aspects of their financial lives. Prior to joining the firm in 2002, Drew worked at Mercer Management Consulting, where he advised technology companies on their strategic plans, and before that, he was the Director of Business Operations at Oracle Corporation, where he directed financial and business analysis for procurement and distribution operations. Drew, and his firm Ballentine Partners, are valued members of the FOX MFO Council and we are very proud to have their expertise as part of the FOX membership community. As family offices become increasingly popular and as families look to them for an ever-broader range of services and expertise, many families are weighing the pros and cons of in-housing vs. outsourcing vs. partnering as they try to decide on the optimal operating model for their family office. Drew shares his perspectives on the tradeoffs between in-house and partnered design options for SFOs and explains when and what should families consider outsourcing when building our their SFO, highlighting the functions or situations that lend themselves better to one model vs. another. Drew and his firm Ballentine Partners have built the Center for Family Wellbeing as a practical resource to help families make the best resourcing choices for their FOs. He tells our audience about the Center, its mission, and how it serves multigenerational families of wealth. Another practical insight Drew offers is regarding the often-neglected qualitative disciplines in support of the family's long-term success – functions such as family communications, education and learning, and next-gen engagement and preparation. He provides his practical recommendations on how families can utilize internal resources and external partners to develop and deliver these mission-critical services to the family. In our hustle-driven culture, the idea of intentionally slowing down might seem counterproductive. But what if the key to achieving your goals isn't about working harder, but working smarter? After years of coaching entrepreneurs and navigating my personal business journey, I've discovered a powerful truth: consistent, intentional action beats sporadic bursts of energy every time. Rushing doesn't get you to your destination faster—it often creates more obstacles.Think about building a business or pursuing a personal goal. When we try to skip steps or do everything at once, we spread ourselves thin and compromise quality. Instead, focus on one bridge at a time. Complete it fully before moving to the next project. The secret is creating margin in your life. Build white space into your schedule. Make decisions purposefully, not from a place of panic. Track your progress differently—maybe it's hours invested rather than immediate financial returns. Remember, personal growth can't be rushed. The roots grow first, often invisibly, laying the foundation for future success. Your current circumstances are the result of past actions, so trust the process.Slow down. Breathe. Progress intentionally. Free Resources:Sign up for the FREE mini-course - Your Most Productive WeekFollow Amanda on Instagram

In today's information-saturated world, we're constantly bombarded with content from social media, news, podcasts, emails, and more. But what if the key to productivity and personal growth is being intentional about what we consume? This week's podcast explores the power of setting constraints to protect your time, energy, and attention. The core message is simple: not all input is created equal, and you have the power to filter what enters your mental space. Start by asking critical questions about your consumption: Does this content support my current season of life? Does it help me grow, learn, or relax? Do I feel better or worse after engaging with it? Practical strategies include:Limiting social media usageMuting or unfollowing distracting accountsRestricting news intakeFocusing on one podcast, book, or course at a timeUnsubscribing from unnecessary emailsThe goal isn't total deprivation, but intentional selection. Replace mindless scrolling with activities that truly serve you—journaling, walking, or simply being present. Remember, constraints aren't restrictions; they're tools for clarity, better decision-making, and reclaiming your focus. By curating your inputs, you create space for what truly matters. Are you ready to be more intentional about your consumption? Free Resources:Sign up for the FREE mini-course - Your Most Productive WeekFollow Amanda on Instagram

We've all been there – wishing for just a few more hours in the day to accomplish our goals. But what if the solution isn't more time, but better time management? The key to productivity isn't about having more hours but maximizing the hours you already have. More time doesn't guarantee progress; instead, focus and intentionality are your true productivity drivers. Start by auditing how you currently spend your time. Identify hidden time leaks like social media scrolling, unnecessary context switching, and over-committing.Then, get strategic about your approach:Prioritize ruthlessly: Identify your top 1-3 priorities each weekPlan based on your energy, not just availabilityBatch similar tasks togetherSet firm time boundariesProtect your focus timeThe most productive people aren't working endless hours – they're working smarter. They understand that 30 minutes of focused, intentional work beats three scattered hours of distracted effort. Shift your mindset from time scarcity to time abundance. Remember, you have enough time for what truly matters. It's not about doing everything now, but doing the right things consistently. Your time is precious. Treat it that way. Doing Less: The Counterintuitive Path to Success In a world that glorifies hustle culture, the most powerful strategy might surprise you: do less.As an entrepreneur and podcast host, I've learned that spreading yourself thin doesn't lead to success—focused, intentional action does. Imagine your energy as a finite resource. When you divide it across multiple offers, projects, or commitments, you're diluting your potential. By consolidating your efforts, you create space for excellence. Whether in business or personal life, the magic happens when you narrow your focus. This isn't about laziness—it's about strategic prioritization. For me, this meant reducing my real estate management from 10 hours weekly to just 5 hours monthly, freeing up crucial time for family and personal growth. It's about understanding your priorities and having the courage to say no to everything that doesn't align.Consider these powerful strategies:Reduce business offersAutomate repetitive tasksDelegate non-essential workProtect your time and energyThe most successful entrepreneurs aren't those doing everything—they're those doing a few things exceptionally well. It's about quality over quantity, depth over breadth. Your challenge? Identify where you can do less. Create margin. Focus on what truly matters. The results might just transform your life.
