We've both seen the new MCU film, Captain America:  Brave New World, and we thought we should make our feelings know before the movie moves to its ultimate streaming destination. We also chat about the pending debut of Daredevil:  Born Again, the newly released image of Kyle Chandler as Hal Jordan and how Stephe believes The Marvels is an underrated title in the MCU. (Originally recorded 11/25/24) It's Thanksgiving time again, kids.  You know what that means?  It's time for a side of SlurpToast. The episode starts with Stephe lamenting issues with frames and photos.  It makes sense in context. We discuss the philosophy of "right or right now." The boys go full heel on Thanksgiving.  Spoiler - they both hate it. Bruce talks about his recent trip to Vega$ (official Dan Tanna spelling). Bruce also breaks the news that he's going to get to move his half of the podcast out of the garage. Then it was on to the main event. We've talked about it ad nauseum and tonight we deliver.  It's time to compare action figures (no that's not a euphemism). Stephe has collected all of the available action figures in the New Gods collection.  Bruce has most of those same characters in the DC Animated/JLU style. Which characters get compared? How about; Darkseid Big Barda Mr. Miracle Orion Superman Lightray Kalibak Stephe also had a Metron and Bruce countered with a few other Fourth World JLU figures (I'm looking at you Mantis.) The show ended with the always exciting "What's on Your Desk?"

Originally recorded 09/25/24 What a night. We recorded while the Chicago White Sox tried to avoid baseball infamy.  Stephe, an avowed ChiSox hater, rooted loudly for their demise, especially since it would benefit his beloved Royals' chances at making the playoffs. Bruce served as the ESPN ticker throughout the episode. Then we discussed the recent SDCC returning registration.  Yes, we got tickets for 2025. We created Moneyball Demo Night, an opportunity for A's fans to pay their parting respects to the team leaving them behind for Sin City. We talked about what it would look like when its time for our kids to put Gen X into the home.  Bruce predicts much gaming will take place. Stephe proposed that Gen X is the reason all toys have soft edges now.  We shared a few stories of growing up in what Bruce called the "Evel Knievel generation." What else? Originally recorded 08/18/24 After a forced hiatus, the boys are back and ready to roll up on you with their particular geek magic. Blood and sugar sold separately. Stephe opened things up with an in depth account of his trip to SDCC in July.  This included Preview Night, Funko Fundays and drinking in San Diego. During this part of the conversation, Bruce took a moment to expound on his Corey Feldman as a performance artist theory. Hey, Bruce got new glasses...the Robert Downey, Jr. kind. There was another edition of Old Men and Their Maladies We discussed Gen X being forced to square dance in gym class and the chaos it created for dyslexics. Stephe had encounters with homeless folks in San Diego.  They did not go how you might expect. Finally, Bruce explained the reason for the long hiatus.  His mom passed away and the guys reminisced a bit about Mama Jane. She was a fan, even when she had no idea what we were talking about.  She knew we were having fun and that's all that mattered to her. Bruce steered the ship out of maudlin with a mention of author, Eli Cranor, and his Arkansas crime noir. Finally, Bruce pointed Stephe toward the poster art of the dearly departed Armadillo World Headquarters.  The legendary Austin hippie music venue produced some fantastic posters during their run.

Stephe had been presented with the argument that Steve Martin was a "transformative comedian."  Well, you can be sure we've got some opinions on comedy and comedians.  It's a lively discussion about who we consider transformation comedians.  We talk about comics we've enjoyed over the years and their place in the annals of comedy (ie Sam Kinison).  We do our best to do bits justice.  It's a lively discussion about a subject close to both hosts' hearts. You Are Not AlonePsalm 139“You know when I sit down or stand up. You know my thoughts even when I'm far away.”Psalm 139:2 Often the loneliest people are the people we assume are not lonely at all. They may seem to be social butterflies; however, deep down, many feel utterly alone. God knows every microcosm and nanosecond of your existence—every cell, atom, and molecule; every interest, weakness, and achievement; every hope, dream, and concern. He knows every movement you'll make today (Psalm 139:2-3), every action, step, and pause for rest, every blink, glance, and breath. He knows when I will stop preaching this message and when you'll stop listening to it. He knows your personality. He knows your emotional triggers, behavioral patterns, bad habits, and comfort zones. He knows what you're good and lousy at doing, every temptation and victory. When you're troubled, He can unravel the complicated issues you are facing. Loneliness isn't just the feeling of being alone, but of being surrounded by many people and yet really not known and understood by anyone. He was there as you were crafted in the womb. (Psalm 139:13-15) He remembers the headlines on the day of your birth and knows the events that will take place on your final day on earth. (Psalm 139:16) He knows what your future holds and the pathways you'll choose to arrive there. In a world of social media but ever-declining personal relationships, of megacities with more and more lonely people, of billions of individuals who secretly wonder if anyone even knows their name, here is a truth that we must focus on: God knows you, and you are never truly alone. Grace and Peace,Stephe

Originally recorded 4/11/23 Well, we went into this one without a plan, and, frankly, it shows. We started out with Stephe finishing a gourmet dinner courtesy of the Quick Trip.  While he slammed that down Bruce kept the ship moving in some sort of direction. Looking for inspiration, we then went into a double round of "What's on Your Desk?" that yielded some fun results. As it does, that led into some (at this point) obligatory Funko talk including the demise of Mondo. All of this happened with laggy internet that had Stephe looking like an extra in a Godzilla movie. Originally Recorded 2/6/23 It started out as an aside by Stephe in Episode 54. "We should do something about Sammy Hagar for our 55th episode." Bruce, of course, ran with it. That's how you get the music episode. Of course we ran into a bout of COVID and a Texas ice storm before we got to do something about Sammy Hagar. We start off with a tale from the SlurpToast vaults.  The boys reminisce about the day they found out David Lee Roth left Van Halen and how they spent the day picking new lead singers from the available crop in 1985. Then we talked a lot about concerts, Billy Joel and our general problems with gravity. We touched on Bruce's half-bake theory of personal pop music relevance. We went into WAY too much detail about Stephe's recent float therapy experiences.  I'll just say "splish, splish, splish" and leave it at that. We played a round of "What's on Your Desk?" Then we talked about the MCU's pending dive into Quantumania and Jonathan Majors' pending superstardom. Stephe talked about a recent leadership seminar he attended and its connection to Columbo. We ended things up with a quick chat about Poker Face on Peacock. That's a lot to get through, but we know if we can, so can you. Enjoy!

Up next is holiday chatter. Discussion of Bruce's son's disastrous shredder work is followed up with praise for him getting a job. Then we segue into tonight's main event. In response to the glut of Hallmark movies around the holidays, Stephe took it upon himself to take on the Twelve Days of Liam.  Yes, he watched twelve Liam Neeson movies so, thankfully, we don't have to.
