The NBA Finals are officially here — and Game 1 already had EVERYTHING. A fan stormed the Frost Bank Center court in the fourth quarter of the Knicks' 105-95 Game 1 win, attempting to take a selfie with Victor Wembanyama. Turned out the perpetrator was a juvenile — now arrested and banned for life from every NBA arena. Meanwhile, Spurs fans gave a standing ovation to Air Corgi — the dog who perfectly picked every WCF game against OKC — only to watch her prediction immediately go wrong as the Knicks took Game 1. Then Channing Frye went viral for all the right reasons, torching the 2005-06 Knicks organization on the Ryen Russillo Show. On the internet culture front: the Rizzler is growing up, Spencer Pratt is running for mayor of LA and somehow winning people over, and AMC just had its biggest May since 2019 — movies are back, baby. Like many serious eaters I am a serious NBA fan. And although the playoffs this year have just gotten underway, they are already proving to be thrillingly entertaining for people like me who have no skin in the game -- other than an unabated lifelong passion for the New York Knicks and just about any and all underdogs. Ever since we had NBA champ and former Knick Channing Frye on the pod a couple of years ago to talk about his company Chosen Family, whenever the playoffs shift into high gear I think back to the entertaining, surprisingly revealing, but mostly just plain fun time we had with him on Special Sauce. So without further adieu here's multitalented Channing Frye talking basketball and wine, LeBron James, and Josh Hart. Speaking of which, go Knicks! On to the Finals! We talk to Rob on this week’s bonus show about he felt about getting passed over for the Hall of Fame, and he says he didn’t think it would happen on his first ballot anyway but he was disappointed by not moving on. Jenners also brings up Stephen A’s top contenders to take on the Celtics largely because the Lakers made the list at #3, and Rob feels like they would need a lot of things to go right for them to get there this year. We all agree that we’d like to see OKC take on Boston for the title this year, and a Cavs-Celtics Eastern Conference Finals would be amazing. After Steph’s “night-night” photo dropped from the Olympics last week, we get into our favorite NBA photos of all time… even though Rob says that HIS shot over the Pistons is his all time favorite. Rob jokes about how everyone in LeBron’s scoring record photo had their phone out, which takes us down the road of the merits of taking photos in a big moment or just trying to enjoy it while you were there. And after Channing Frye said nostalgia is killing the NBA, we debate about how the game should and should not be compared to previous eras of basketball. And Rob takes some accountability about creating the shot-heavy NBA as a big man who shot a lot of threes. How would B-Dog due as an NBA Ambassador? What would you do if you had to sit next to a dead woman, like what happened this week on a Qatar Airlines flight? The craziest stories of the week close out this long bonus show this week.
