If you’re a messenger, chances are you’ve got “do a TED talk” on your bucket list. I’ve noticed that the main reasons my clients haven’t applied are 1) they don’t know what they’ll talk about or 2) the process feels daunting. Since I talk plenty about message already, in this episode I decided to tackle reason #2 and peel back the curtain of what it looks like to actually apply for one. So it no longer feels so overwhelming or impossible. To do that, I called up former TEDx event organizer (aka the person with final say on who gets approved for a talk) Jess Tomlinson, my biz bestie, to have an open chat and balance out the perspective I bring to the table as a TEDx speaker. Listen in to this behind-the-scenes conversation to learn what it really takes to land a TEDx talk. You may be surprised! Announcements: I’m leading a Vegas workshop on July 6th! “How to Connect & Communicate with Your Dream Clients” is for women coaches & heart-centered solopreneurs who are ready to scale their biz & grow their brand by attracting customers who value what they do. I’m so excited that we are at 50 episodes this week. When I started this podcast back in June of 2017, I never imagined getting to this point. I start podcasting because I was tired of writing blog posts and I felt like it wasn’t the best way for me to educate my audience and make connections with other people in the industry. After meeting a group of amazing podcasters at a networking event, I decided to jump in and try podcasting for myself. Since then, we have had a ton of amazing guests, some solo episodes, lots of freebies and opt-ins, and a couple of bumps along the way. Today I want to look back over the past 50 episodes, give you some insight into what I’ve learned, the most popular episodes, and a little sneak peak of what’s coming next. Topics Discussed: An overview of the 5 most popular episodes Some of my favorite interviews that you may have missed The top 3 episodes to listen to before beginning your website design Lessons I’ve learned from 50 episodes of Process to Profitability Some of the big mistakes that I made My favorite reviews (and why I love them) What’s coming next Ways that you can support the show Most Popular Episodes: 01 | Using Your Blog to Educate Clients with Cinnamon Wolfe 14 | Writing a Book that Serves Your Audience and Your Business with Jodi Brandon 39 | Mindfulness and Entrepreneurship with Lee Chaix McDonough 11 | Creating Effective Surveys in Your Business with Lauren Black 20 | Pricing Your Services for Your Profitability and Your Dream Clients with Kristin Kaplan My Favorite Episodes You May Have Missed: 47 | Strategies for a Higher Converting Email List with Kate Boyd 05 | Using Customer Feedback in Product Design with Ashley Staum 10 | Connecting to Your Clients through Brand Photography with Mallika Malhotra You Need to Listen Before Designing a Website: 15 | Is Your Website Working for You? Creating a Strategic Website 27 | Setting Goals and Planning Your Website 29 | Creating Content for Your Website What I’ve Learned: I love having a conversation with my guests while still covering their area of expertise Podcasting takes a lot of time and effort and it costs a lot more than writing a blog It’s easier to interview a guest than to host a solo episode Mistakes I’ve Made: My very first episode was released with the intro and interview audio tracks overlaid, so you couldn’t understand anything One of my early episodes was released with 20 minutes of audio missing in the middle – and I didn’t catch it until months later Favorite Reviews: “Samantha, host of Process to Profitability, highlights all aspects of business in this can’t miss podcast. The host and expert guests offer insightful advice that is helpful to anyone that listens!” – Brooke Craven “I’m only a few episodes in, but I already love what I’m hearing. Samantha dives right into getting to know her guests and it’s all action from there, which is great!” – Krista Miller “I’m loving Samantha’s podcast for her ability to ask questions that really allow the interviews to get to the strategies that business owners are curious about. It’s exciting to hear stories AND get something you can put into place in your business immediately!” – Reina Pomeroy What’s Next: 3 Action Steps for each episode New guests covering topics like learner-centered design, subscription-based businesses, and the true value of an hour New solo episodes including what a week in my life looks like, website analytics, and auditing your website Transcriptions for each episode How You Can Help: Leave a rating and review on iTunes Share the podcast with a friend Tag us on Instagram and Facebook @processtoprofitability or @lemonandthesea

In addition to being a website designer, I’m also a podcast host and I interact with a lot of people online. I’m always looking at other people’s websites as I consider bringing them onto the show, collaborating with them, recommending them to my clients, or just trying to get to know other people in the online space. The problem is that when people design their websites, they forget that it’s not just for dream clients – it’s also for all the other people who want to learn more about you. If you’re considering educating, collaborating, or reaching out to more people, this episode is a great one for you. I’m going to be talking about why your website matters to more than just your potential clients and give you my perspective as a podcast host and business owner on what I look for in a website. Topics Discussed: What I look for in a website when considering a guest for my podcast Up to date content Image of them and bio Who they serve and what services they offer Way to get in touch (that’s not a contact form) Areas of expertise Don’t overwhelm your visitors No music Videos should not start automatically Don’t use pop-ups on mobile Present clear information on your Home page Have a clear way to get in touch with you If you have ads on your website, don’t embed them with your content – you want to make things easy to read List your location (including your city) in multiple places on your website Add visual space and clear dividers to make your content easy to read Include fun facts about you, not just a boring bio Use industry norms in your menu bar Don’t use jargon – make your copy clear Keep the design simple, but not boring Resources Discussed: Finding Keywords for Your Website & SEO Basics Using Verticals to Connect with Your Dream Clients with Reina Pomeroy Setting Goals and Planning Your Website 5 Website Updates to Get Legit
