Just because there's money in the bank doesn't mean your business is truly profitable. In this episode, Danielle lays out the most common (and sneaky) financial mistakes she sees entrepreneurs and small business owners making without even realizing they're doing it. From undercharging to over-relying on your gut, Danielle is not here to shame you—she's here to show you how to avoid them so you have the tools you need to build your business with confidence, clarity, and a financial plan that supports your vision. Key Takeaways: Your Bank Balance is Not the Full Picture: Why real profitability lives beyond what's in your checking account. Profit is not the same as cash flow, and both matter in different ways. You Don't Have to Do It All Yourself: You're not a bookkeeper—and you don't need to be! Delegating your money tasks is one of the most empowering moves you can make. Outsourcing your books (or any task that's not your expertise) isn't giving up control, it's giving yourself the ability to make smarter business decisions. Knowing Your Numbers Puts You In Control: Reviewing your financial statements monthly isn't just “nice”, it's necessary. It keeps you from guessing and it's how you grow with intention. Pricing for Profit, Not Panic: Undercharging leads to burnout. You deserve to get paid what your work is worth—and then some. Create a Plan for the Slow Seasons: Feast-or-famine is not a strategy. Use data to build stability and breathe easier year-round. Think In Terms of the Long-Game: Even if you love your work now, it's never too early to plan for the future. Building a business that runs without you means real freedom. Topics Discussed: (00:49 – 01:43) Mistake #1: The Illusion of a Healthy Bank Balance (01:44 – 02:47) Mistake #2: Doing Your Own Bookkeeping and Ignoring Your Financials (02:47 – 03:16) Mistake #3: Not Looking at Your Financials on a Monthly Basis (03:24 – 04:47) Mistake #4 & 5: Not Charging Enough and Not Raising Prices Regularly (04:48 – 05:30) Mistake #6: Not Tracking Return of Investments on Expenses (05:31 – 06:22) Mistake #7: Chasing Revenue Over Profit (06:24 – 08:07) Mistake #8 & 9: Hiring a Team and Asking for Help Too Late (08:07 – 08:53) Mistake #10: Not Planning for Slow Seasons and Creating a Money Buffer (08:53 – 09:59) Mistake #11 & 12: Ignoring Financial Red Flags and Relying on Your Gut Alone (10:00 – 10:34) Mistake #13: Allowing One Client or Revenue Source to Dominate Your Business (10:35 – 11:10) Mistake #14: Not Having Standard Operating Procedures In Order to Delegate (11:11 – 11:42) Mistake #15: Inconsistent Invoicing and Follow Up (13:57 – 14:45) Mistake #16: Not Creating an Exit Plan and Having a Long-Term Vision for the Future Resources: Kickstart Accounting's CFO Services | kickstartaccountinginc.com/cfo Book a Call with Kickstart Accounting, Inc.: https://www.kickstartaccountinginc.com/book Connect with Kickstart Accounting, Inc.: Instagram | https://www.instagram.com/Kickstartaccounting YouTube | https://www.youtube.com/@businessbythebooks Facebook | https://www.facebook.com/kickstartaccountinginc

Let's talk about money. How'd that make you feel? Nervous? Icky? Excited? Opportunistic? Weird? The very thought of money brings a variety of emotions depending on how you feel about it. And I firmly believe how you feel about money today all goes back to your money story – and every one of us has a money story largely based on how we were raised. When you build a web design business, you probably don't realize that you're subconsciously making business decisions based on your money story. And if that story isn't pretty…well…it makes sense why it's hard to charge your worth, raise your rates, build profit, sell with confidence, etc.So to take a deep dive into the psychology of money and to most importantly, to help you build your business with a mindset of plenty and opportunity, I'm pumped to bring on someone who's changed their money story from scarce to plenty…Austin Church. He's the author of the book Free Money - a Guide to Pricing Your Services so You Can Unlock a Better Lifestyle. His book was referred to me as a MUST READ from a trusted colleague and let me tell ya, after this conversation, I have to agree. Austin's approach to changing your money mindset is a must for creative business owners. Especially if you don't come from money. Which, let's be honest, most of us don't.We dig into:How our upbringing affects our money mindset todaySteps you can take to change your money story TODAYHow the internet opened up the door to different money mindset compared to previous generationsHow to take small steps to build confidence with pricingHow $100,000 is not a gross goal to get to – but a base standard of living in the WestHighly recommend checking Austin's book out and connecting with him below.Head to the show notes to get all links and resources we mentioned along with a full transcription of this episode at joshhall.co/362Get my entire suite of courses in the Courses Tier = $49/moGet courses + all community features in the Community Tier = $99/moGet everything + direct coaching with me in the Coaching Tier = $199/moJoin today (in the tier that works for you) at: webdesignerpro.com*** upgrade & downgrade available ***

In this episode, we kick off a mini-series on pricing your nature-based therapy services. Key Takeaways from this episode: Research what is average for your area and charge a similar amount for your services. Don't set your prices too high or too low at the start because either can be detrimental to your business. Try not to over-explain when telling people what you charge. Say your price and SHUT UP and wait for them to respond. If you are a cash pay business, you can offer scholarships for families to expand the reach of your services to lower-income clients. Always have a system in place before offering scholarships. Raise your prices for new clients after you have a established a proven concept and have raving testimonials from previous clients. Think about VALUE. Offer add-ons that add value for families so they see why they are paying versus going to a standard non-nature-based provider (for example: a weekly update, progress notes, consult minutes, on-call PRN services, home programs, etc.). Trusting the unknown and taking one step at a time is a key theme discussed in the podcast episode. The conversation highlights the importance of trusting the process and being open to the uncertainties of life. Both the host and the guest share personal experiences and insights that emphasize the significance of embracing the unknown and following one's intuition. The guest, Elena, shares her journey of transitioning from various roles to becoming a copywriter. She mentions how she had a sense of humor about becoming a copywriter for a couple of years before actually making the transition. This process of slowly allowing the idea to surface and trusting the intuitive nudges she received demonstrates the power of trusting the unknown and taking small steps towards a new direction. The conversation also touches on the idea that life is an experiment and that it's essential to be open to the possibilities that each step may bring. Both the host and the guest acknowledge that life doesn't always go as planned, and it's crucial to be adaptable and open to new opportunities that may arise unexpectedly. Furthermore, the discussion emphasizes the importance of self-awareness and understanding one's energy flow. By recognizing one's rhythms and needs, individuals can better manage their time and prioritize activities that align with their values and goals. This approach allows for a more balanced and fulfilling life, where personal well-being is prioritized alongside professional endeavors. In conclusion, the podcast episode underscores the value of trusting the unknown, following intuition, and taking one step at a time in both manifesting success and navigating life's uncertainties. By embracing the journey, being open to new possibilities, and prioritizing self-awareness, individuals can cultivate a sense of empowerment and resilience in the face of life's challenges and opportunities. I share how to reframe rejection (it's inevitable) and the two paths you can take when faced with a no. I share how to reframe your mindset about your pricing and gain confidence in sharing with potential clients. Today I'm teaching you how to determine your pricing model in your business. Whether you're a service provider or you sell products you can use the formulas I give you in this episode to calculate what your hourly rate would need to be to make sure your time and hard work are energetically returned to you.First of all, I encourage you to not work more than 40 hours per week, unless it's truly temporary. Next, we want to identify the yearly salary you want to pay yourself. Then, we factor in the two types of ways you work in your business. The work you do is highly specialized. Some of your time is spent on client work; and some is spent on administrative work. I always look at market comparisons and help my clients design a pricing model that compensates them for the value they're providing their clients. We don't announce their hourly rate, but we use it to price their packages.1:49 - Why it's important energetically to make sure you're charging enough for how hard you're working.3:04 - My formula to determine what your hourly rate should be6:42 - We go one step further, looking at the market to see what other service providers are charging.10:46 - Don't make this same mistake with a pricing model where you're offering a service that detracts from your focus and doesn't benefit the client as much as it's costing them and you. Thanks for listening! Is there a topic you feel not enough people are talking about in the small business scope or one I haven't discussed? Pricing your services is always a hot topic for any service-based entrepreneur. For many of us, pricing is a constant struggle due to our own money mindset, so bringing the topic up often and openly sharing can make that struggle a little easier. In this rebroadcast episode, I share my experience with pricing my services and talk about my mindset and relationship with money. I also share how much community and the power of collaboration have changed and continuously impact how I charge for my services. I cover my story about all of the little and big things I did when I started in this industry working for another designer and how I transitioned into my own business. Through the years I have definitely made my share of mistakes when it came to undercharging my clients while trying to find the right amount and correct way to charge for what I do. Over the years I've come to realize that it's not enough to just know someone else's rate and compare that to yourself and what you have to offer. Pricing your services and charging what you're worth takes into account your experience, what you're offering, how long you'll take to complete your offering and so much more. When a client argues with your pricing, they are usually not your ideal client and don't understand the value of the service you're offering. During the episode, I also share my personal relationship with money and how my upbringing has affected that. I also go into detail about how I'm reevaluating and repairing my money mindset. If you're trying to establish a healthier relationship with money and become more accustomed to charging what you're worth, I strongly recommend the book: You Are a Badass at Making Money: Master the Mindset of Wealth by Jen Sincero. If you take only 2 things away from this episode and what will help you to price your services correctly its this: You need to focus on your money mindset. Find out what's holding you back? Explore your relationship with money. Collaborate in your industry – Find out what others in your area are doing? Actively pursue community and don't think of it as competition. You will find people to encourage you to charge more money so that you're fair to yourself. As we face the potential of a global recession, we also have to come to consider the possibility that the clients we love will be closing their wallet on aesthetic treatments. Navigating this situation comes down to focusing on how you can cultivate abundance. I am being inundated with unsolicited sales pitches on strategies for cutting back on ads and spending less on marketing, but to me this is clearly not the way through. Let's be proactive about focusing on your team and your market share rather than cutting back, which can actually hurt your brand positioning in the long term. By looking at the research around recessions, you can make informed decisions about your products and services. Money doesn't go away during a recession—it actually represents a different type of redistribution of wealth. You can actually use this to the advantage of your business. Another factor to keep in mind is that whether there's a recession or not, people's values don't change. The clients coming to you for the amazing results you provide won't suddenly stop seeing this as a priority. It's also not a good practice to discount your prices, as switching back to your full or regular price afterwards can be an uphill battle. The decisions you make today will impact your business for years to come, including when the recession is over. Protect your brand at all costs. Adopt your strategy to align with buyers who want to give you their business. It pays to think about how you can pivot ahead of time rather than being reactive. Hey Successful Hairstylists!! Ever wonder WHY you charge what you do? Or if there's a better way? I get so many DMs from Independent Stylists wondering if they're prices are high enough, if they should switch to a different pricing model (session, hourly, a la carte) and so many other q's. So I put together this training based on a fundamental pricing model by Austin Netzley that I customized for our industry. Truthfully, when we don't understand our prices OR, worse, if we feel like we might be ripping people off - we will self sabotage our way out of business. This shows up with NO motivation to promote your services, the guilty feeling when it comes to offering add-ons, retail and more. I want you to have CEO LEVEL confidence in how you're running your business!
