Two small town guys discuss their views on the country music genre and its history.
RJ is back (albeit delayed, again) to share what country music he listened to the most in 2024, both from new releases and from all country (and related) music! Unlike the previous episode, this one is solely focused on that, and does not cover any country music charts from 2024. This episode was intended for release back in January, but was delayed several times, for which I apologize. The episode's length is due in part to the samples of each song in the chart countdowns. Howdy! Welcome to the Cedar Country podcast, where we talk about country music! Hosted by Ray and RJ from the Dungeons & Dragons podcast Realms & Nerds! Apologies: This episode was recorded toward the beginning of the Coronavirus COVID-19 pandemic back, and to keep us socially distanced and simultaneously test remote recording quality, Ray's audio was recorded over a video call, hence the lower quality of his microphone. In our fifteenth episode, Ray and RJ discuss: The Blue Collar Comedy Tour & Grand Rapids' annual LaughFest event, cancellations of and changes to events and shows due to the pandemic, Brad & Kimberley Paisley's Instagram & Facebook livestream concert, The Grand Ole Opry, the 2020 ACM Awards, and new music the week of 3/19/2020. Howdy! Welcome to this very special episode of the Cedar Country podcast, where we talk about country music! Hosted by Ray and RJ from the Dungeons and Dragons podcast, "Realms & Nerds"! On this episode of the show, we had the absolute pleasure of interviewing up-and-coming country music artist Daniel Borge, who is gearing up to release his next single, "Time", releasing tomorrow, Friday, May 28, 2021! From the song's press release: "...“Time” tells a thought-provoking and relatable story of a narrator experiencing regret and wanting to go back in time. Borge and Branch put a clever spin on the concept, personifying “time” as a man that the narrator wishes he could reason with to turn the back the clock... The mid-tempo country track features modern, radio-ready production as well as a melody that evokes nostalgia. “Time” also highlights Borge’s rich voice and ability to convey emotions with his vocal delivery. Borge said his feelings about this past year inspired him to write the song with Branch. He explained, “I believe the lyrics are especially relatable because of the pandemic. We ́ve all had a lot of extra time to think and reflect on life and the choices we’ve made in the past...”“Time” follows Borge’s previous singles, “There I Was” and “Room 208,” all three of which Borge plans to include in his upcoming album, due out later this year." Apologies for the audio balance issues during the interview. RJ accidentally had the volume settings reversed, so Daniel may be a little hard to hear at points. This is definitely something we'll fix for any other interviews we may have on the show. We had a wonderful time interviewing Daniel on the show, and think that this song is definitely worth your time! We'd also love to hear it get played on the radio. Let your local country stations know about the song! Help it rise on the streaming charts as well! Howdy! Welcome to the Cedar Country podcast, where we talk about country music! Hosted by Ray and RJ from the Dungeons & Dragons podcast Realms & Nerds! ANNOUNCEMENT: PLEASE KEEP AN EYE OUT FOR OUR NEXT EPISODE! IT'S A HUGE EPISODE FOR US! WILL BE RELEASED ON WEDNESDAY OR THURSDAY! Apologies: This episode was recorded during a timeframe when our microphone mixing board accidentally had some knobs turned up on some reverb effects, which can't be removed easily in post, so that's why things sound echoey at points. In our thirteenth episode, Ray tells RJ about his experience at the Garth Brooks concert at Ford Field in Detroit, Michigan on February 22, 2020. This was the last episode recorded prior to the COVID-19 outbreak in 2020, and therefore includes discussion of then-upcoming events that may have been cancelled, postponed, or altered due to the pandemic. Howdy! Welcome to the Cedar Country podcast, where we talk about country music! Hosted by Ray and RJ from the Dungeons & Dragons podcast Realms & Nerds! A few warnings for this episode: First and foremost, we do discuss a few songs that contain racist themes and elements. As always, we do this as a means to educate on history. Second, this episode was recorded during a timeframe when our microphone mixing board accidentally had some knobs turned up on some reverb effects, which can't be removed easily in post, so that's why things sound echoey at points. In our twelfth episode, we continue our journey through the history of popular country music songs. However, we're still way back in 1812-1849 (between approximately 106-69 years before country music's official inception). Essentially, we're looking at popular (at the time they were published, at least) music that helped lead the way to the birth of country music. Howdy! Welcome to the Cedar Country podcast, where we talk about country music! Hosted by Ray and RJ from the Dungeons & Dragons podcast Realms & Nerds!Apologies for the weird echoing you may hear in this episode. Our mixing board had a reverb effect turned on that we weren't aware about at the time of this recording, which is nearly impossible to undo in post. Hopefully it's not too bad, though. In our eleventh episode, we present the first of our episodes highlighting a country music icon. We discuss the music, television, film projects, food company, and life of country music star Jimmy Dean. Focal points on The Jimmy Dean Show, the Jimmy Dean sausage & breakfast sandwich company, and hits such as "Big Bad John", "Cajun Queen", and "PT-109".Information in this episode gathered from Wikipedia and IMdB.Follow us on Social Media:https://twitter.com/Cedar_Countryhttps://instagram.com/CedarCountryhttps://facebook.com/CedarCountryJoin the Discord community! https://discord.gg/qcv2dx2If you like what you hear, consider subscribing and leaving a thumbs-up/rating/review, and share our show with your friends! You can find a playlist of songs based on this episode over on our YouTube channel and on Spotify to listen to for yourselves as well! Thanks for listening!Intro, outro, and commercial break music by RJ Moore
Howdy! Welcome to the Cedar Country podcast, where we talk about country music! Hosted by Ray and RJ from the Dungeons & Dragons podcast Realms & Nerds!A few apologies about this episode. First, for the weird echoing you may hear in this episode. Our mixing board had a reverb effect on that we weren't aware about at the time of this recording, which is nearly impossible to undo in post. Hopefully it's not too bad, though. Second, for the plethora of noise in the background caused by RJ's family's dogs vying for our attention and being a little noisy in the background. Third, that we spent so much time on RJ's tangent about his (now slightly outdated) view on "pop" as a music genre. We promise to do better. In our tenth episode, RJ dishes out some (then) recent news involving country stars and awards shows to Ray, Ray inquires about RJ's thoughts on up-and-coming country music artists, and then RJ derails most of the rest of the episode trying to explain his thoughts on "pop" as a music genre. Finally, the boys briefly discuss the idea of doing the next episode on Country Christmas music... which, spoiler alert, didn't happen (yet).Follow us on Social Media:https://twitter.com/Cedar_Countryhttps://instagram.com/CedarCountryhttps://facebook.com/CedarCountryJoin the Discord community! https://discord.gg/qcv2dx2If you like what you hear, consider subscribing and leaving a thumbs-up/rating/review, and share our show with your friends!

Hosted by Ray and RJ from the Dungeons & Dragons podcast Realms & Nerds! In our seventh episode, we once again come to the table just a bit unprepared. Granted, this was recorded shortly after a local play RJ was involved in finished up and Ray got married, so to say we had been a bit busy as of late is putting it mildly. We end up discussing the then-upcoming CMAs (and female country artists' representation on country music radio), a Randy Travis concert post-stroke, an interesting then-new music video by Chris Stapleton, and reminisce about Ray's recent nuptial and country music played at the reception.Join the Discord community! https://discord.gg/qcv2dx2If you like what you hear, consider subscribing and leaving a thumbs-up/rating/review, and share our show with your friends! You can find a playlist of songs based on this episode over on our YouTube channel to listen to for yourselves as well! Thanks for listening!Intro, outro, and commercial break music by RJ Moore
Howdy! Welcome to the Cedar Country podcast, where we talk about country music! Hosted by Ray and RJ from the Dungeons & Dragons podcast Realms & Nerds! In our sixth episode, we attempt to discuss country music's ties to summertime and the beach, but are wildly unprepared for the topic. So about fifteen minutes in (which is conveniently the halfway point of the episode, since we couldn't find enough to talk about to fill more than a half hour this time), we kind of derail into topics that tie into this episode's theme at varying degrees of relevance.Join the Discord community! https://discord.gg/qcv2dx2If you like what you hear, consider subscribing and leaving a thumbs-up/rating/review, and share our show with your friends! You can find a playlist of songs based on this episode over on our YouTube channel to listen to for yourselves as well! Thanks for listening!Intro, outro, and commercial break music by RJ Moore
