Chris Holman welcomes Chris Rizik, Founder and CEO, Renaissance Venture Capital Fund, Ann Arbor, MI. Chris Rizik, founder and CEO of Renaissance Venture Capital Fund, joins Michigan Business Beat to discuss his firm's unique "fund of funds" model, which invests in venture capital funds nationwide and then works to attract those funds to invest in Michigan startups. He highlights the firm's signature "UnDemo Day" event — a speed-dating-style format connecting Michigan startups with out-of-state VCs through hundreds of pre-arranged one-on-one meetings, held virtually in the spring and in person at Ford Field each fall — which has helped channel roughly $3 billion in investment into Michigan companies. Rizik also pushes back on the old notion that most venture-backed startups are expected to fail, arguing that a well-matched ecosystem can produce a much higher success rate across a range of company sizes. He closes by sharing that he will receive the Venture Vanguard Award, the nation's top venture capital honor, crediting his team and the broader Michigan ecosystem — including the Michigan Venture Capital Association — for helping put Michigan on the national VC map. » Visit MBN website: www.michiganbusinessnetwork.com/ » Subscribe to MBN's YouTube: www.youtube.com/@MichiganbusinessnetworkMBN » Like MBN: www.facebook.com/mibiznetwork » Follow MBN: twitter.com/MIBizNetwork/ » MBN Instagram: www.instagram.com/mibiznetwork/

The Detroit Lions 2026 NFL road map is set after schedule release night. Detroit opens at home against the New Orleans Saints at 1 p.m. Week 2 sends the Lions to christen the Buffalo Bills' new stadium on the first Thursday night of the season. A Munich date with New England headlines midyear. Thanksgiving brings Chicago. The stretch run leans on NFC North road games. Fast start, steep Week 2 test Week 1 is friendly. Home. Dome. Saints. The Lions know the drill and can set the tone. Then comes Buffalo on Thursday night to open the new stadium. That trip looks like the toughest win on the slate. A new coach and a defense with moving parts make the Bills volatile. They added CJ Carter Johnson in the secondary. That could hit big or explode. Either way, the timing is tricky on a short week in a charged building. Early bye, home-heavy runway After the Jets at home, Detroit heads out for a two-game road swing at the Panthers and Cardinals. The Carolina game lands in prime time on Sunday night. A Week 6 bye arrives early. Some will bristle at that. The schedule then flips in the Lions' favor. From Week 7 through Thanksgiving, Detroit gets five home games in six weeks if you count Munich as a home date. The only road game in that stretch is at Miami. That matchup does not intimidate. The Dolphins might be the weakest opponent on the schedule. Stack wins there, and the table is set for December. Munich stage without a post-trip bye Week 10 brings New England in Munich on a Sunday morning. The NFL designates it a Lions home game. There is no bye afterward. Detroit returns to host the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Week 11. Expect a surge of Amon-Ra St. Brown jerseys in Germany. He has deep ties there and real popularity. The Patriots still draw strongly overseas, so the atmosphere should be split and loud. The turn-and-burn back to Detroit adds a wrinkle to recovery and prep. Thanksgiving spotlight and a road-heavy close Thanksgiving features the Bears at Ford Field. The mini-bye that follows points to Atlanta, then the Titans visit Detroit. The final four turn up the heat: at Minnesota, home for the Giants, then at Chicago and at Green Bay in Weeks 17 and 18. That's a rugged close inside the division and on the road. The Lions' best path is clear. Survive Buffalo, build momentum in the home-heavy middle, handle Munich without a stumble, and carry cushion into December. Detroit Lions Podcast faithful will have those checkpoints circled. #detroitlions #lions #detroitlionspodcast #2026detroitlionsschedule #nflschedulerelease #reaction #lionsreaction #dancampbell #detroitlionsseason Learn more about your ad choices. Opening slate: Saints lift-off, Bills hurdle, early split The day after the NFL schedule release, the Detroit Lions Podcast dove into the schedule game. The call is clear through Thanksgiving. Detroit projects an 8-3 mark built on home control, measured road aggression, and smart handling of travel. Week 1 brings the Saints to Ford Field. That's a win. Tough opponent, but the Detroit Lions are set to treat home fans right out of the gate. Week 2 at Buffalo is tagged as the least winnable date on the entire slate. The Bills are set to open a new stadium on a Thursday night, and that setting tilts against Detroit. Week 3 vs the New York Jets swings back to a win. Week 4 at Carolina is labeled a coin flip that falls the wrong way. Through four, it's a 2-2 split. Week 5 at Arizona flips the script again. Detroit takes care of the Cardinals on the road. Week 6 is the bye, arriving with the Lions at 3-2. Reset after the bye: division tone-setters Back from the break, the NFC North run sets the tone. Week 7 against the Green Bay Packers at Ford Field is a win and a division opener that matters. One week later, the Minnesota Vikings visit. If the Detroit Lions are reasonably healthy, that's another win. The record climbs to 5-2 with momentum building inside the division. Travel tests: Miami swing, Germany trip, sandwich trap The road trip to Miami follows, slotted between two divisional matchups and a flight abroad. The focus holds. Detroit gets a road win in Miami. The next stop is Germany against New England. Detroit hasn't played overseas in a long time, but the matchup favors the Lions offense. Chalk up another win. Returning from Europe sets a classic trap. Tampa Bay arrives at Ford Field off a bye while the Lions are just back from the international trip. That spot leans against Detroit. The Buccaneers are picked to edge it, a narrow loss in a tricky schedule pocket. Thanksgiving target and running tally Thanksgiving brings the Bears to Detroit. The Lions lock in and handle business, a home win fueled by the Ford Field crowd and the urgency of a division race. That puts the Detroit Lions at 8-3 heading into the final six games. The schedule tightens from here, but the path to that mark is set: protect home turf, win the right road fights, and survive the travel swings. The Detroit Lions Podcast made the calls. Now the NFL season will test them. #detroitlions #lions #detroitlionspodcast #lionsschedule #lionswintotal #game-by-gamepredictions #nfcnorth Learn more about your ad choices. Round 11 of the 2026 Monster Energy Supercross Championship went off in Detroit, Michigan's Ford Field last weekend, and - once again - the racing was insane! Dare we say it, sometimes at this point in the series, the action has tapered off in the past and become almost predictable. Not this year! Though Honda HRC Progressive's Hunter Lawrence came in with a solid points lead and three wins in the last four races, a crash in the whoops and damage suffered to his front brake blew the championship wide open again as Eli Tomac reclaimed the red plate with a fifth-place finish. We've got a seven-race series on our hands, folks! In the 250 Eastern Division class, Cole Davies put an exclamation point on the dominance that he's enjoyed in the class, coming from nearly mid-pack to win by over 10 seconds. Ah, yes.  Springtime means the return of your favorite eight United Football League (UFL) spring football teams for a third consecutive season. Except for the San Antonio Brahmas, Michigan Panthers, and Memphis Showboats, that is! Those three UFL teams were vaporized last summer to become a part of league history. The UFL moving trucks have been busy during the off-season United Football League team locations in San Antonio, Detroit, and Memphis were replaced with new franchises in the states of Florida, Ohio, and Kentucky. The Orlando Storm, Columbus Aviators, and Louisville Kings will join the Birmingham Stallions, DC Defenders, Houston Gamblers, and St. Louis Battlehawks in 2026. In addition, the former Arlington Renegades moved across town to morph into the Dallas Renegades.  But even the name “Dallas” is a bit misleading.  The Renegades will play this season in Toyota Stadium – a 24,000 seat soccer stadium in fast-growing Frisco.  That city is 25 miles north of downtown Dallas. The UFL has smartly downsized its stadiums and cut more costs this season. All eight UFL teams still practice at the same facility in Arlington, Texas on weekdays and then fly to play games on weekends in each team’s respective home market. All but two of the eight spring football franchises will play in smaller soccer venues beginning this season.  The new stadiums generally have a seating capacity of no more than 25,000. The Houston Gamblers vamoosed from the 40,000 seat football stadium at the University of Houston in favor of a more “right sized” environment at the downtown home of the Houston Dynamo soccer franchise. Wisely, the UFL owners have learned that the optics of showing thousands of empty seats on nationally televised football games is a very bad look for TV.  The high costs of leasing a traditional football stadium was another big factor in making that switch, too. The St. Louis Battlehawks (which led the UFL in home attendance with more than 30,000 fans per home game) will continue to play in the 60,000 seat Dome at America’s Center. Locally known as the “BattleDome”, the indoor football stadium was the former home of the NFL’s St. Louis Rams prior to the team moving to Los Angeles. Birmingham will continue to play in UAB’s state of the art 47,000 seat football stadium.  The league smartly cordoned off the upper deck last season, so the actual seating capacity for Stallions home games is about 25,000. When is the first UFL football game this year? The 2026 UFL season picked a bad time to get started (again).   This weekend’s season openers will have stiff competition from the men’s and women’s NCAA March Madness college basketball tournament. Game #1 of the new UFL season is this Friday night (March 27) at 7PM CDT on FOX. The Birmingham Stallions visit Kentucky to play in the first-ever home game for the Louisville Kings. Saturday, March 28 will feature an afternoon doubleheader.  The opening game will start at 11AM CDT on ESPN as 2025 champion DC Defenders invade the St. Louis Battlehawks.  The second game (3PM CDT on FOX) has the Houston Gamblers riding up I-45 to play their intrastate rival, the Dallas Renegades. Sunday’s final opening weekend game will pit two new entries taking the field for the first time. The Columbus Aviators take flight to central Florida to play the Orlando Storm at 7PM CDT on ESPN. The UFL added a giant source of cash as billionaire Mike Repole joined the ownership team Who is Mike Repole, you ask? If you have heard of beverage brands such as VitaminWater and BodyArmor, it was entrepreneur Mike Repole who built and sold those companies to Coca-Cola for a cool $12 billion. That means that the UFL just added another financial partner with deep pockets.  Mike Repole is about to learn that the UFL and every other prior spring football iteration has been a gigantic money pit. Last season’s UFL was owned by former WWE wrestling legend Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson and his ex-wife Dany Garcia along with Fox Sports, Disney (ESPN), and private equity investor Redbird Capital Partners. The privately-held United Football League is not required to publish annual financial reports.  They are quite tight-lipped about the league’s finances. It’s not a secret that the UFL has posted annual losses into the tens of millions of dollars. A lot of cash is required to pay stadium leases, players, and other significant costs One source reported that Ford Field in Detroit (former home to the now-deceased Michigan Panthers franchise) cost the league $500,000 per home game. That’s a cool $2.5 million per season for just one stadium’s rental fees. Last year’s Michigan Panthers averaged less than 12,000 fans per home game.  Their average ticket price in 2025 was about $25.  That generated about $300,000 in ticket revenue per home game for a season-ending total of about $1.5 million. Ouch. But wait, there’s more. Each team had 45 active players on the roster in 2025.  The average salary per player was about $60,000.  That’s another $2.7 million per team – just for the player salaries. Coaches are another significant expense.  Even relatively unknown coaches will cost a UFL team about $1 million annually. Don’t forget the cost of insurance, transportation costs to and from the games, practice facilities, home office costs, and a lot more. Yes, the UFL is losing money with every game they play Television advertising is the largest revenue source for the UFL. However, the television ratings in 2025 dipped 20% below 2024’s mediocre numbers.  The UFL’s average weekly television audience last season was less than 800,000 viewers per game.  Even the league’s title game failed to attract more than one million television viewers. Until the UFL can capture and sustain at least one million television viewers per game, the league’s television revenues will be insufficient to cover the costs of operations. The UFL receives a set amount from its television partners (ESPN and FOX Sports).  In return, the networks pay for the production costs of each telecast.  They also retain the vast majority of the revenue generated from ads sold within each football game. The more home viewers tune-in to watch UFL games, the more money the networks will be able charge to advertisers.  The UFL must produce results for the networks this season.  It’s that simple. The UFL’s costs of operations seem relatively fixed.  The league can improve its financial picture by growing additional home stadium revenues (higher attendance and/or higher ticket prices).  Revenues from annual television fees will become more significant once home viewership grows by 50% over the puny 2025 TV ratings. That’s why new investor Mike Repole’s billion dollar checkbook is so important to the UFL this year. The other owners are, most likely, tapped-out. What’s new in the UFL for this season? Aside from my rather gloomy financial comments, the on-field product for the United Football League will feature some rather interesting innovations this spring. A 4-point field goal is coming! If your kicker can somehow clear the crossbar from 60 yards or more, a field goal will be worth four points in the UFL.  This new 4-point field goal option sounds good, until you realize that a missed attempt will hand the football over to the opposing team near midfield. Pass receivers need only one foot in-bounds for a legal catch! This is the same rule being used in college football.  The UFL felt like the NFL’s “both feet must be in bounds” rule was also a little bit dangerous for wide receivers. Another reason for the “one foot in-bounds” change by the UFL is get teams to score more points. The UFL has struggled with relatively low scoring games during its first two seasons.  Teams which first reach the 20 point mark generally win most UFL spring football games. No “tush push” in the UFL! This should have been outlawed by the NFL, too.  My personal thanks to the UFL for getting rid of this rather odd-looking and often dangerous play where the quarterback is shoved by his own players for a first down or into the end zone. No punts allowed from inside the 50-yard line This is yet another attempt to improve overall scoring in the UFL.  Today’s punters have become quite proficient at landing the football inside of the opponent’s ten yard line.  Statistically speaking, most offenses do not move the football 90 yards downfield for a touchdown or even a field goal after being pinned near their own goal line to start a drive. Summary: UFL televised games will be shown on FOX, FS1, ABC, ESPN, and ESPN2 again this season. There is a ten game regular season beginning this Friday, March 27 and ending on Sunday, May 31.  There are two semifinal playoff games on Sunday, June 7.  The league championship game will be played on Saturday, June 13 with kick-off at 2PM CDT on ABC. New UFL financial backer Mike Repole is pushing hard to make the spring football league more fan-friendly this season. He said, “The UFL exists to innovate.  If we’re not making the game more exciting and fan-focused, we’re not doing our job.” As usual, I will track the attendance at UFL home games in addition to the television ratings this season.  Both measures must improve by 15% or more, or you could be watching the final season of UFL spring football unfold over the next 2 ½ months. Darius Slay's sendoff and legacy The Detroit Lions Podcast opened with a moment for Darius Slay. The longtime cornerback announced his retirement. He was a fantastic player and an easy person to like. He represented Detroit well. He won a Super Bowl with the Eagles. He wants to spend time with his teenage kids and be a sports dad. Hall of Fame talk will follow him. That debate is fair. At minimum, he belongs in the hall of very good. Someday his No. 23 could spark a banner discussion at Ford Field. Quiet depth move up front Detroit did not add a headline name on Thursday. The Lions brought back a familiar defensive lineman on a low cost deal. He knows the defense. He can play inside and as a five tech. He showed backfield disruption in the injury ravaged 2024 season. He did not get many snaps last year. This is continuity. It is a depth signing that should stick. Free agency slows, draft needs sharpen The calendar now favors patience. Veterans are waiting for the NFL Draft to pass. They do not want to sign and watch a team spend a first round pick on their spot. Expect little action in free agency around Allen Park until after the draft. Several pass rushers are still out there with clear warts. DJ Reader is cited as No. 2 among available free agents. Taylor Decker shows up at No. 5 on that board. Mock focus at 17: tackles on the board Detroit opted for DJ Wonnum over AJ Epenesa in that tier. Wonnum gets into the backfield, even if the finish rate is uneven. He fits the Lions profile as the No. 3 edge. The plan still points to drafting another pass rusher in the first or second round. Maybe they double up. Mock drafts stacked up this week. One projection sent Blake Miller, offensive tackle from Clemson, to Detroit at 17. That buzz is growing. Another popular option in the mocks is Caleb Lomu, the offensive tackle from Utah. Tackle sits firmly in play at No. 17. #detroitlions #lions #detroitlionspodcast #dariusslayretirement #halloffamedebate #fordfieldbannertalk #familiardefensivelineman #fivetech #backfielddisruption #injuryravaged2024season #freeagencyslows #allenparkuntilafterthedraft #djreaderrankedno.2 Learn more about your ad choices. Lions Prepping for the Combine - Detroit Lions Podcast

Who Makes the Calls in Allen Park Now? Episode 603 of the Detroit Lions Podcast opens with the question hanging over Allen Park. With Rod Wood retiring, who is steering football decisions day to day? The show lays out a direct agenda: assess the cap, sprint through free agency priorities, and prep for the NFL Scouting Combine. The timing matters. Combine week concentrates information, from personnel whispers to process checks. That is where clarity on roles can sharpen. The show centers the concern without panic. The operations list is long. Football choices cannot stall. The Lions have a window to align budgets, targets, and evals before Indy. Rod Wood's Legacy and Ford Field's Staying Power The conversation traces Wood's arc with the Detroit Lions. He worked for the Ford family in one form or another for almost thirty years, with roughly twenty more in investment banking before that. His tenure with the team dates to 2015, the Jim Caldwell era, marked by mediocrity and dead cap. He was involved in the Patricia decision, though he was not the decision maker. The organization even brought in outside counsel, including Ernie Coursey, to shape that process. Wood's imprint shows in concrete ways. Ford Field remains a viable venue, even as it nears thirty years and sits among the NFL's ten oldest stadiums. Built in the late 1990s and opened in 2000 or 2001, it still works because it improved. That is part of Wood's legacy. He also pushed to end an outlier status in Allen Park by securing the Meeks sponsorship for the training facility. The league had moved in that direction. Detroit aligned. Cap Outlook, Free Agency Sprint, Combine Plan The episode maps the near-term workload. First, clarify the Detroit Lions cap picture. Then hit a sprint through free agency to set tiers and timelines. Finally, lock in combine prep. Measurements, interviews, and positional benchmarks drive the board. The show frames Indy as the place to learn not only about prospects, but also about how the league values the Lions roster and decision makers right now. Every day lost before the combine is costly. The Lions need decisions on structure so scouts, coaches, and execs move in sync. That is the task list before wheels up. Why Indy Matters for the Detroit Lions Indy concentrates the NFL. It is where schedules stack, meals turn into meetings, and league perception reveals itself. The hosts emphasize that they learn more there about how the league perceives the Detroit Lions than any other week outside free agency and the draft. That intel feeds back into cap choices, free agency targets, and how to deploy limited time with prospects. Even the small stuff surfaces, from stadium quirks to fan experience notes. A rancid ketchup complaint gets a laugh, but it underlines a core point. Details and decisions both define a franchise. With Rod Wood stepping away, clarity on who makes the football calls is priority one as Detroit heads to the combine. #detroitlions #lions #detroitlionspodcast #rodwood #allenpark #fordfield #jimcaldwellera #patriciadecision #erniecoursey #meekssponsorship #salarycap #freeagencysprint #combineprep #indy #leagueperceivesthelions #episode603 #fordfamily Learn more about your ad choices. This week, Jason is joined by two of the most inspiring Detroit Lions fans you'll ever meet — Harry and Dan — in a special on-the-field episode recorded inside Ford Field after the Lions surprised Harry with an unforgettable day.Jason shares how a spontaneous Super Bowl concourse moment with Harry and Dan went viral for one simple reason: pure joy. But the story quickly became bigger — Harry's family reached out to reveal he's currently battling inoperable cancer, undergoing chemo to extend time, with no guarantee he'll make it to next season. What followed was a wave of support that reached the Detroit Lions, leading to a private tour, special messages, and a reminder of what can happen when the internet actually rallies around something good.Harry opens up about being overwhelmed by the attention, and why his approach to life has always been rooted in finding the good in every day, staying positive through the hard moments, and treating people with kindness and respect. Dan reflects on what makes Harry so loved — that he makes every interaction about the other person, and genuinely wants everyone around him to have a great day.Harry also talks about his career in the glass business and the rare kind of loyalty you almost never hear about anymore: after his diagnosis, his employer at Weather Guard Window Company gave him a written promise that he'd always have a job there, supporting him fully through treatment and time off when needed.Jason and David wrap with a powerful takeaway: the “power of humanity” is real — and Harry's light is proof that a single moment of kindness can ripple into thousands of people reconnecting with gratitude, perspective, and the people they love.Harry and Dan reveal all this and more in another episode you can't afford to miss!Trading Secrets Steals & Deals!Monarch:Monarch isn't your average personal finance app. Unlike most other personal finance apps, Monarch is built to make you proactive, not just reactive. Detroit Lions Stumble Into the Finale After a Christmas Collapse The Detroit Lions walked into U.S. Bank Stadium on Christmas with their season on the line and walked out with it basically over. The loss to the Minnesota Vikings did not feel like a one-off. It felt like every nightmare Detroit fans have been trying to forget, all crammed into one afternoon. Bad starts. Bad breaks. Bad decisions. A team that looked tight, reactive, and completely out of rhythm when it mattered most. If you are asking how an NFL roster that still flashes top-tier talent can end up eliminated before the final week, the answer starts with the way the game unfolded. Detroit never got control of the moment. It began with a penalty that set the tone and it never got better. The offense spiraled. The turnovers stacked. The Vikings did not have to be great for four quarters. They only had to be functional while Detroit handed them short fields and momentum. This was not just a Jared Goff game, but it was one where everything went sideways. He started clean, then got stuck forcing throws, locking in on Amon-Ra St. Brown, and trying to dig out of holes that never should have existed. When you are down multiple scores and your offensive line is held together with tape and optimism, the margin disappears. That is when the bad habits show up. That is when the same old Lions feeling creeps back in. Personnel Misfires, Coaching Blind Spots, and What the Finale Must Be The most frustrating part is that the problems were not mysterious. Detroit has been stretched thin by injuries all year, but the staff kept trying to plug-and-play replacements as if the skill sets were interchangeable. They are not. When you lose Kerby Joseph and Brian Branch, you cannot call defense like they are still on the field. When you lose Sam LaPorta, you cannot pretend the tight end room is the same. When the interior pass rush is missing juice, you cannot expect the back end to survive forever. The personnel usage told the story. Heavy tight end packages without credible tight end threats condense the field and invite defenders into the box. That makes the run game harder and shrinks the passing windows. Detroit played into exactly what Minnesota wanted, then spent the rest of the day trying to climb out. Now the Lions head into the season finale with the playoffs gone, which changes the stakes but not the responsibility. This is still Ford Field. This is still Dan Campbell. And this is still an organization that cannot afford to drift into a losing culture after a 15-win season. The finale has to be a hard reset. Play fast. Play clean. Stop asking backups to be stars. Put players in roles they can actually win. And just as important, take a serious look at why Detroit keeps drafting and acquiring talent that cannot stay on the field. That is not bad luck anymore. That is a pattern. The Lions may be eliminated, but the evaluation is not. Sunday is about pride, clarity, and making sure this stumble does not become a new standard. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AEQOVKTTuFI Get yourself a Classic Detroit t-shirt here! The Detroit Lions got outclassed by a so-so Pittsburgh Steelers roster because the plan failed before the ball was kicked. In late December, that is a coaching loss. It exposed a defense without cohesion, a depth chart stretched past its limits, and a Dan Campbell team that needs answers now. This Detroit Lions Podcast recap stares hard at why. Coaching Exposed in Steelers Loss The NFL is unforgiving when preparation lags. Pittsburgh brought a clear script and executed it. Detroit arrived with a better cast and a worse idea. The coaches were not good enough. The defense had no identity. The game plan did not fit the personnel available. That mismatch showed up on every level, from alignments to adjustments. The Steelers dictated with modest talent because they were organized. The Lions were not. That's the headline. It is also the trend. The final score felt earned, and not in a good way. Numbers over narratives point to the same truth. Too many explosive gains. Too many empty downs. Too many drives where Detroit never forced Pittsburgh off schedule. Depth, Scheme, and a Defense That Lost Its Shape Detroit's backups are not winning games in December. Injuries gutted the defense and chipped away at the offensive line again. The “next man up” idea sounds brave. It does not stop crossing routes or protect a corner stranded in man coverage he cannot play. You cannot build a man-heavy scheme and then ask reserves to survive it. Detroit tried to mix in zone. That fell apart too. The front four must cover for the back end. It did not. The starters up front are healthy, as are the three linebackers behind them. Pressure still lagged. That left a shaky secondary to hold forever. Plans that counted on additions like Josh Paschal and Levi Onwuzurike never stabilized. The result has been a defense gashed by everyone, not just top NFC offenses but a middle-tier Steelers unit as well. Worse, the same problems surfaced in other spots. Remember the 42-year-old Aaron Rodgers performance in Detroit. The Lions handed him leverage with structure. He took it. That is a scheme problem. It is also a self-scout problem that has not yet been solved. Flags, Farewells, and the Stakes for Dan Campbell Officiating cannot be the story, but it keeps grabbing the mic. The calls at the end were brutal. They did not decide the outcome. They did shape the discourse. When pool reporters and penalty explanations dominate the postgame, the NFL has a quality control issue. Detroit cannot count on cleaner Sundays. It must become call-proof. Hard choices are next. Some of the Dan Campbell and Brad Holmes originals are nearing the exit. Alex Anzalone may have played his last game at Ford Field. Others with devoted followings could join him. Sentiment meets performance here. Depth must get better. So must the plan to deploy it. This is the inflection point. The Detroit Lions have the talent to compete. They need a defense that fits who is actually available, not who was penciled in back in June. Campbell's next moves will define his tenure. Adapt now, or see December become a closed door again. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vsDHgopy-aQ #detroitlions #lions #detroitlionspodcast #pittsburghsteelers #coachingloss #defensewithoutcohesion #depthchart #dancampbell #explosivegains #man-heavyscheme #crossingroutes #mancoverage #frontfour Learn more about your ad choices. December 22, 2025 - Season 16, Episode 67 of The Terrible Podcast is now in the can. In this Monday morning episode, Alex Kozora and I get right into our overarching thoughts on the Pittsburgh Steelers' Week 16 Sunday afternoon win against the Detroit Lions. Was the Steelers' Sunday road win the best one that HC Mike Tomlin has ever had in the regular season? Alex and I address that question early on in this show. We both make sure to note how surprised we were that the Steelers beat the Lions on Sunday and how enthralling the end of that game was. In our weekly housekeeping portion of this show, which is sponsored by the fine folks at TouringPlans.com, Alex and I talk about the Steelers' Sunday inactive list and the players who missed the contest due to injuries. We also talk about the transactions that the team made on Saturday afternoon. Alex and I discuss RB Kaleb Johnson and WR Roman Wilson both being healthy scratches on Sunday and why DL Logan Lee was likely active for the game against the Lions. The Steelers sustained a few injuries on Sunday, so we discuss those. That list of players included CB Brandin Echols (groin) and WR Calvin Austin III (hamstring). After going through the newsy items related to Saturday and Sunday, Alex and I look at what all transpired at Ford Field against the Lions. We first talk about the play of the Steelers' offense and how good the rushing attack was. We also discuss several of the big plays made on Sunday and how QB Aaron Rodgers once again seemed to be in total control of the unit. We make sure to discuss how often the Steelers used an empty backfield against the Lions and why. RB Kenneth Gainwell, RB Jaylen Warren, WR Scotty Miller and WR Adam Thielen all had healthy contributions on Sunday, so we make sure to tip our caps to those players, along with several others. After a lengthy discussion about the Steelers' offense, Alex and I do the same with their defense. We discuss that unit controlling the Lions' rushing attack and how there were essentially three takeaways on that side of the football on Sunday. We discuss several individual performances on defense against the Lions. Finally, Alex and I give some thoughts on special teams play from Sunday. We discuss the late miss by K Chris Boswell, the low snap by LS Christian Kuntz and the players that registered tackles in that third phase of the game. There were several key penalties during the Steelers-Lions game, so we discuss the more notable ones. We also discuss the final play of the game as well. After discussing Sunday's game in detail, Alex and I discuss the troubling altercation that WR DK Metcalf had with a fan on Sunday. We discuss what has been said about what possibly led to that interaction and whether Metcalf is likely to be suspended for a game for his actions. After discussing Metcalf's Sunday incident, Alex and I look at the AFC North clinching scenarios for the Steelers heading into Week 16. We discuss the possibility of the Steelers' Week 17 game against the Cleveland Browns possibly being meaningless and if the team would consider resting starters should that ultimately come to fruition. Is the AFC wide open enough for the Steelers to win at this point? Alex and I address that question later in this show. We also discuss Tomlin registering a 19th non-losing season on Sunday after logging his 200th career win in the NFL. This 114-minute episode also discusses several other minor topics not noted and we wrap things up by answering several emails we received from listeners. steelersdepot.com Learn more about your ad choices. Detroit Lions vs Pittsburgh Steelers Post Game Show: A December Fight at Ford Field Everything on the Line for the Lions in Week 16 The Detroit Lions entered Week 16 of the NFL season with no margin for error, hosting the Pittsburgh Steelers at Ford Field in a game that carried unmistakable playoff urgency. December football rarely offers subtlety, and this match-up fit the bill. The Lions needed a complete performance, while the Steelers arrived with their own postseason hopes hinging on discipline, defense, and physical execution. On our post game show, the focus turns to how Detroit handled the moment. Did the Lions play free and aggressive, or did the weight of the situation show early? Ford Field has been a fortress at times this season, and the atmosphere reflected what was at stake. We will break down how the Lions responded to that energy and whether it translated into clean execution on the field. One of the defining storylines heading into the game was how Detroit would deal with Pittsburgh's identity. The Steelers are built around defense, pressure, and forcing mistakes. That puts immediate emphasis on Jared Goff's decision making, the offensive line's communication, and Detroit's ability to stay ahead of the chains. Whether the Lions leaned on the run game or trusted the passing attack to move the ball will be a central part of the discussion. Key Talking Points from Lions vs Steelers Tonight's Detroit Lions post game show will cover the most important themes from this late season clash: Quarterback composure: Goff has been at his best when playing within rhythm and avoiding turnovers. We will evaluate how he handled Pittsburgh's pressure packages and disguised coverages. Defensive toughness: The Steelers rarely beat themselves. Did Detroit's defense create negative plays, win on early downs, and force Pittsburgh into uncomfortable situations? Physicality and field position: Games like this often come down to hidden yards. We will examine special teams, punt coverage, and how both teams managed field position. Coaching decisions under pressure: Late season games test a staff's nerve. We will discuss fourth down choices, clock management, and red zone strategy. Execution in critical moments: Third downs, short yardage, and turnovers tend to decide games with playoff implications. Detroit's performance in these moments will be a major focus. Listener Calls and Detroit Lions Reaction The heart of the post game show is always the fans, and tonight will be no different. We will open the phone lines and take listener calls to capture the full Detroit Lions reaction to a game that could define the season. Were fans encouraged by the Lions' resolve? Did this performance reflect a team ready for January football, or were there missed opportunities that loom large? December games against teams like Pittsburgh reveal who you are. They expose flaws, reward toughness, and leave no room for excuses. Regardless of the final score, this match-up provides a clear snapshot of where the Lions stand as the playoff picture tightens. Detroit Lions Have No Room For Error The Detroit Lions arrive at this point of the season with zero margin left. Sunday's match-up at Ford Field against the Pittsburgh Steelers is not just another game on the NFL calendar. It is a referendum on where this team is headed and whether the lessons of the last two months have actually been absorbed. In the latest episode titled Detroit Lions Have No Room For Error, the conversation is honest, uneasy, and rooted in the reality that Detroit must start stacking convincing wins immediately or watch the playoff door close. Officiating Noise, Rams Fallout, and a Team Searching for Its Edge The episode opens by revisiting the Rams loss, not to re-litigate the result, but to confront the lingering frustration around officiating. The hosts make it clear this was not why Detroit lost, yet the blown calls and New York involvement remain impossible to ignore. Across the league, trust in the officiating process is eroding, and the Lions have found themselves on the wrong end of too many moments that change momentum if not outcomes. That frustration feeds into a larger issue. The Lions have not been the same team since early October. Injuries in the secondary, rotating offensive line combinations, and a defense that sometimes looks outmatched have stripped away the identity that fueled last season's run. Against the Rams, Detroit looked like the less talented roster for the first time in years. That realization hit hard. The episode frames it as a wake-up call, not just for players, but for the entire organization. Steelers Preview and the Playoff Math Nobody Wants The reality is brutal. Detroit needs wins now, not moral victories. The Pittsburgh Steelers come in fighting for their own playoff lives, and that matters. This is not a team Detroit can sleepwalk past. The Steelers offensive line is physical and stable, their tight ends stress the middle of the field, and they are comfortable turning games into grind-it-out affairs. That is exactly where Detroit has struggled when execution slips. Defensively, the Lions need pressure packages similar to what worked against Baltimore earlier in the season. The Steelers can be beaten if their quarterback cannot sit and survey. That means coordinated rush lanes, disguised looks, and better tackling in space than Detroit has shown recently. This is where pride has to take over. The playoff math is uncomfortable but unavoidable. Detroit can still get in, but it requires winning games like this one and doing it decisively. The episode emphasizes that belief inside the locker room matters as much as standings. This is a team that has to prove to itself it can dominate again, not just survive. Sunday is not about style points. It is about control. Detroit Lions Make A Statement When They Had To The Detroit Lions did not just beat the Dallas Cowboys. They answered a question the rest of the NFL was starting to whisper: could this team still reach the gear it showed last year when everything mattered. A 44–30 win over Dallas at Ford Field in a must win spot is not perfection, but it is proof of concept. This is what the Lions offense is supposed to look like when it breathes, and what this defense looks like when it steals possessions instead of just surviving. Jared Goff, Jahmyr Gibbs and an Offensive Line That Finally Settled This felt like a reset game for Jared Goff. After weeks of interior chaos and happy feet, he played like a quarterback who trusted what was in front of him, finishing with a 121 passer rating and command of the entire field. He did not just lock onto Amon Ra St. Brown. He spread it around. St. Brown went 6 for 92 on one good ankle. Jameson Williams added 7 for 96 in what might be his most complete game as a pro. The star, though, continues to be Jahmyr Gibbs. He is no longer just a fun wrinkle in the playbook. He is the problem defenses cannot solve. Seventy seven receiving yards, a series of ankle erasers in space, and the constant threat that any touch might become a house call. This is the first Lions player since Barry Sanders who genuinely makes you lean forward every time he has the ball. Quietly, the big shift up front was Miles Frazier. Once the rookie stepped in at left guard for Tristan Colon, the protection and run fits stopped looking like a fire drill. Frazier buried people on duo and inside zone, climbed to the second level with bad intentions, and gave both Goff and David Montgomery room to operate. Monty responded with 60 hard rushing yards and looked far closer to the back we saw last season than the guy fighting for air against Philadelphia. If this is who the offensive line can be with Frazier settling in and the tackles relatively healthy, Detroit's playbook opens back up. Shot plays to Williams, option routes for St. Brown, and Gibbs isolated on linebackers is how the Lions offense stresses an entire defense. Defense, Special Teams and the NFC Playoff Picture The Lions defense did not dominate Dallas statistically, but it did what great units do in big games. It turned the ball over. Fourteen points came directly off Cowboys mistakes. Jack Campbell flew around again, DJ Reed battled with CeeDee Lamb until the concussion, and the front made Dak Prescott uncomfortable enough to force high risk throws. Special teams finally flipped a field too. Tom Kennedy looked like he had been waiting five years for those returns, hitting seams at full speed and giving the offense short grass it has been missing all season. That is how complementary football is supposed to look in a real playoff race. In the NFC playoff picture, the win keeps the Detroit Lions alive for more than just a wild card berth. It keeps pressure on Green Bay and Chicago, and it turns next week's trip to play the Los Angeles Rams into a leverage game instead of a funeral. Run the ball the way Carolina just did against the Rams, protect Goff the way they did against Dallas, and Detroit can turn this one statement into the start of a December run. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LvYN107viHw Get yourself a Classic Detroit t-shirt here! Thanksgiving Fallout: Packers Exploit Lions' Soft Spots The Detroit Lions just got punched in the mouth on Thanksgiving. Green Bay walked into Ford Field and exposed familiar weak points. It was not a surprise. This matchup has been a bad fit for Detroit in recent seasons, from Week 1 to a prior holiday meeting. The result felt inevitable once the first few series played out. The Lions could not protect Jared Goff. They could not pressure Jordan Love. That two-lane problem defined the day in the NFL spotlight. The Detroit Lions Podcast laid it bare. You could tell what kind of Goff game it would be almost immediately. Early heat rattled timing. Pocket noise forced hurried feet and tight-window throws. Meanwhile, Love operated in rhythm. Detroit's front never got him off his spot. That is a losing formula, no matter the venue. Protection, Pressure, and a Quarterback on Alert This loss was not about one player. It was the offensive line and the defensive line failing together. Pass protection broke down at critical moments. The run game could not steady the offense. Goff needs trust in his interior. He did not have it. On the other side, the pass rush never arrived. Edge wins were rare. Interior push was flatter still. With no heat, Love surveyed calmly and found answers against zones and match rules that never stressed him. The Packers' front presents unique challenges to this roster construction. That showed up again. When Detroit cannot dictate with its lines, the margin shrinks. Mistakes become touchdowns and field goals instead of punts. The Lions paid for it. Discipline, Details, and the Wicks Touchdown There will be noise about officiating. A missed timeout on a false start created a four-point swing. The Lions lost by seven. That stings, but it is not the story. Detroit's issues were self-authored. Coverage busts and situational lapses fed Green Bay's momentum. The Wicks touchdown tells the tale. Brian Branch throttled down at the goal line. He looked at the quarterback instead of finishing the route. That is a cardinal sin for a defensive back. Eyes can find the ball, but the feet must stay alive. He admitted as much, and the tape confirms it. One pause, six points. Add in missed pressures, soft landmarks, and leverage errors, and you have a defense that never dictated. Love picked it apart because he was allowed to. No disguised pressure. No hurry. No hits. Where the Lions Must Tighten Up Detroit needs its identity back at the line of scrimmage. Protect Goff. Collapse the pocket on defense. Clean up the small stuff in coverage. The Lions have enough talent to fix this, but it won't be solved by arguing flags. It comes from pad level, communication, and fundamentals. Start there. The next opponent will test those same stress points until the Lions prove otherwise. Thanksgiving turned combative in living rooms across Michigan for a reason. The film matches the frustration. The path out is simple to say and hard to do. Win up front. Finish routes on defense. Give your quarterback clean answers. That is Detroit Lions football when it works. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3nfhkTuvRtk #detroitlions #lions #detroitlionspodcast #thanksgiving #fordfield #greenbay #jaredgoff #jordanlove #offensiveline #defensiveline #passprotection #passrush #interiorpush Learn more about your ad choices. Thanksgiving Loss Autopsy The Detroit Lions stumbled on the holiday stage. A 60-minute reminder that thin margins decide NFL games. The Green Bay Packers seized the key points. Detroit let them. The box score looked even. Yards and first downs were a wash. Penalties matched. Time of possession tilted late to the Lions. The first half belonged to Green Bay. The difference lived on the edges. Fourth downs. The Packers converted. The Detroit Lions did not. That flipped field position, momentum, and mood at Ford Field. Detroit's third-down efficiency hid a quieter problem. Too many calls short of the sticks on third and long. That set up fourth and manageable. It also invited disaster when the conversion failed. Fourth Down Philosophy Under Fire Aggression is a Detroit Lions brand. It has paid off. It also burned them here. Two fourth-down calls defined the loss. The first was telegraphed. The formation screamed run. Jamir Gibbs lined up deep. Offensive linemen dug their knuckles. Green Bay read it. Everyone in the building did. The play crashed into a wall. The second call was sharp. Roll Jared Goff. Move the launch point. Punish a pass rush that had battered the offensive line. Jameson Williams streaked across the field. He shook free. The throw and the catch were not clean. Both the quarterback and receiver owned it. The concept worked. The execution failed. That theme echoed all afternoon. Play Calling, Execution, and Bandwidth The Detroit Lions Podcast framed a broader issue. Dan Campbell taking over offensive play calling energized the Washington game. It also put strain on the operation. Since the switch, precision has slipped on both sides of the ball. Missed assignments. Late details. Detroit's edge in the margins dulled. Is the head coach stretched thin? In-game play design demands focus. So does clock, fourth down math, and defensive oversight. If assistants cannot carry more weight, small cracks widen. Thursday showed it. Detroit's tendencies were on tape. Green Bay anticipated and attacked them. The offense toggled between conservative third-down calls and aggressive fourth-down tries. That split personality cost possessions and points. Next Up: Dallas Test, Urgent Fixes The Lions visit Dallas next week. The Cowboys punish mistakes. Detroit must recalibrate before then. Throw to the sticks on third down. Break self-scout tendencies. Dress runs with motion and constraint plays. Use Gibbs as a decoy and a finisher. Protect Goff with movement and rhythm. Lean into Jameson Williams' speed with clear reads and layups. This roster wins with detail and conviction. Thursday lacked both. The solutions are not exotic. They are disciplined. Balance fourth-down aggression with smarter third-down design. Vary formation tells. Clean up timing and landmarks. If the Detroit Lions hit those notes, the path sharpens again. If not, Dallas will hear the same music Green Bay did. And play it louder. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R4S3YWKlSTo #detroitlions #lions #detroitlionspodcast #greenbaypackers #fourth-downaggression #third-downefficiency #jamirgibbs #jaredgoff #jamesonwilliams #dancampbellplaycalling #self-scouttendencies #passrush #dallascowboys Learn more about your ad choices. Detroit Lions vs Green Bay Packers Post Game Show: Game 13 Breakdown Lions Host Rival Packers in a High Stakes Division Clash The Detroit Lions welcomed the Green Bay Packers to Ford Field for a crucial Week 13 NFL showdown, a game that always brings emotion, pressure, and no shortage of story lines. On tonight's post game show, we will break down everything from the execution on both sides of the ball to the growing implications inside the NFC North race. Detroit entered this match-up riding momentum and expecting the building to carry a playoff atmosphere. The Packers arrived fighting to stay alive in the division chase, hoping to disrupt the Lions' rhythm and force mistakes. Even without Frank Ragnow, who is expected to return soon but not in time for this game, the Lions leaned on an offensive line that has held up admirably through injuries and depth challenges. Our show will take a close look at how the Lions handled the trenches, how well Jared Goff operated under pressure, and whether the front seven was able to disrupt Green Bay's offense. With the rivalry heating up this late in the season, discipline, turnovers, and situational football were always going to play a central role. What We Will Discuss on the Post Game Show Tonight's Detroit Lions post game show will take a full view of the Detroit Lions vs Green Bay Packers battle. Key topics include: Offensive adjustments without Ragnow: How did the Lions manage the interior line and communication responsibilities? Did the ground game find consistency or did the Packers' front control the early downs? Quarterback play and rhythm: We will evaluate Goff's timing, accuracy, and decision making against a Packers defense that has leaned heavily on disguised pressures and young play-makers. Defensive pressure and containment: Aidan Hutchinson and the Lions' pass rush faced the challenge of keeping Green Bay uncomfortable. We will break down whether Detroit generated enough pressure and how the secondary handled the Packers' young receivers. Situational excellence: Third downs, red zone efficiency, and turnover margin will be dissected in detail, since these elements often decide Lions vs Packers games. Depth and development: Key injuries have pushed younger players into roles they did not expect to fill this early. Did those players step up? How did the defensive rotation respond to Green Bay's tempo and play calling? Listener Calls and Detroit Lions Reaction As always, our post game show will feature live listener calls so we can capture the full Detroit Lions reaction. Fans will have plenty to talk about regarding the division rivalry, the physicality of the match-up, and how the team handled the moment at home. Whether the Lions delivered a statement win or battled through a tight contest, this game provides important clues about where Detroit stands heading into the December stretch. With Ragnow's return on the horizon and the roster rounding back into form, the Lions have a chance to strengthen their grip on the division. First-Half Flames, Second-Half Fix The Detroit Lions survived a nail biter against the New York Giants. It was a big NFL win, but it started ugly. The defense looked disorganized. Misfits. Miscommunication. The Giants scored more in the first half than Philadelphia managed across four quarters. That set the tone. The week's theme inside Allen Park was firefighting. Defensive coordinator Kelvin Sheppard called his unit the firefighters. Dan Campbell leaned into it too. In the first half, everything burned. After halftime, the Lions put the fire out. Structure returned. Tackles stuck. The scoreboard slowed. That resilience, not the chaos, is the lasting note. This Detroit Lions Podcast recap keeps the focus on cause and effect. The early mess forced the defense to respond. They did. The win stands because they adjusted, not because the opening plan worked. That is a useful truth with a short week ahead. Jahmyr Gibbs, Star Power in Full View Jahmyr Gibbs tilted the field. Again. He is the biggest offensive star the Detroit Lions have had since Calvin Johnson. Before that, Barry Sanders. That is the lineage described, and the tape backs it. Gibbs changes leverage with one cut. He erases angles in space. He is lethal in the run game and the pass game. The national conversation is finally catching up to what Detroit already knows. Touches will always be the debate. Some want more Gibbs. Some want more David Montgomery. The truth is simpler. There is only one player on this offense, and maybe in this league, who can do what Gibbs can do snap to snap. He must be a focal point against Green Bay on Thanksgiving. Every motion, every screen, every counter that stresses rules should run through 26. Campbell's Call Sheet and the Sideline Clock Dan Campbell taking over play calling midseason was a gamble. It has lifted the offense, but it has a cost. Game management suffered against the Giants. Timeouts were misused. The challenge process faltered. Too much traffic on the headset, and too much on one person. That is the trade-off when the head coach calls plays instead of John Morton. The Lions can live with some inefficiency if the sequencing and feel stay hot. But the margin is thin with six games left and the Packers next. Campbell must evolve weekly. Clean the clock work. Streamline the challenge mechanics. Keep the creativity. The team cannot keep fixing the plane at altitude. Amon-Ra's Pain, Packers on Deck Amon-Ra St. Brown is playing hurt. The drops tell the story. He had two all of last season. He has two or three in back-to-back weeks now. And yet he still led the team in catches and yards. The toughness is obvious. The production remains. That balance will matter on Thursday at Ford Field against the Packers. The enemies list shifts after a win like this. Green Bay tops it. Firefighting metaphors can stay in the past. The Detroit Lions need clean starts, Gibbs in rhythm, and a calmer sideline clock. Do that, and the next Detroit Lions Podcast will be breaking down a statement Thanksgiving win. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wvi2PQZFnYA #detroitlions #lions #detroitlionspodcast #newyorkgiants #miscommunication #kelvinsheppard #firefighters #dancampbell #playcalling #gamemanagement #timeouts #challengeprocess Learn more about your ad choices. Detroit Lions vs New York Giants Post Game Show: Game 12 Breakdown Lions Return Home Looking to Maintain Their NFC Push The Detroit Lions returned to Ford Field for Game 12 of the NFL season, hosting the New York Giants in a match-up that carried weight for both teams. Detroit sought to continue its run toward the top of the NFC, while the Giants came in trying to salvage a turbulent season marked by inconsistency and injuries. On our post game show, we will break down how Detroit handled this late November test and what the performance revealed about the team's trajectory. One of the biggest story-lines entering the game was head coach Dan Campbell continuing to call the offensive plays. Campbell's influence has been felt in recent weeks, with Detroit showing more tempo variation, increased aggression in early downs, and a willingness to challenge defenses vertically. Game 12 offered another chance to see how his vision meshes with Jared Goff and the rest of the offense. The Giants brought a defensive front capable of disrupting rhythm. Detroit's offensive line, still adapting to mid-season injuries, needed to neutralize the interior pressure that New York relies on to stay in games. Whether the Lions leaned on Jahmyr Gibbs for explosive plays or asked Goff to dissect coverages will be a focal point during the show. What We Will Discuss on the Post Game Show Tonight's Detroit Lions post game show will dive into several important angles from the Detroit Lions vs New York Giants match-up: Offensive identity under Campbell: With Campbell calling plays, how did Detroit's offense evolve this week? Did the Lions find balance between the run and pass or lean heavily in one direction? Defensive performance: Aidan Hutchinson and the Lions front had an opportunity to pressure a Giants offense that has struggled to find consistency. Did Detroit control the line of scrimmage and limit the Giants' rushing game? Execution in critical moments: Third downs, red zone trips, and turnover margins often define close NFL games. We will evaluate whether Detroit capitalized on these situations. Depth and resilience: This stage of the season often reveals which teams can withstand injuries. Did Detroit's defensive rotation hold up? Were the young cornerbacks tested? Listener Calls and Detroit Lions Reaction No post game conversation is complete without hearing from the fans. On the post game show, we will open the phone lines to take live calls and gather the full Detroit Lions reaction to this Week 12 match-up. Were fans encouraged by what they saw with Campbell leading the offense? Did the Lions look like a team gearing up for a playoff run, or did the Giants expose areas that need urgent attention? Regardless of the final score, this game provides valuable insight into Detroit's ability to adapt, compete, and finish strong as the season enters its most demanding stretch. Offense vs Maryland Starts at :51 It doesn't feel good to just beat up on Maryland the week before The Game. Dave explains a soft and gooey snack for all of you to enjoy. Bryce was okay! He's worked on a nice seam route with an arc to Marlin Klein that he didn't have before the bye. And a dig route! There was one bad pass which was a tough throw to make anyways. Can he go and win The Game? Probably if the defense can do enough. This was never going to be a challenge for the offensive line but they exceeded expectations anyways. The Ohio State game might be a bridge too far, though. Kuzdzal is a step down from Justice Haynes and Jordan Marshall but he's got some juice. They succeeded on wedge! Andrew Marsh almost completed the Odell Beckham?? He's a star going forward. Marlin Klein hurdled a fool, Goodwin had a few catches. It was nice of Maryland to just run into themselves and let Michigan do what they wanted.  2. Defense vs Maryland Starts at 34:09 There was an opening drive touchdown with various guys being offsides again, but then there wasn't much until the backups came in. Pleeeease do not be rotating the back-seven against Ohio State all game. Derrick Moore has 11 sacks, imagine if he played more! Ernest Hausmann did not travel, Cole Sullivan was back (and possibly a little rusty). This performance didn't build confidence in holding Ohio State to 10 points again, a lot of Maryland receivers were running open. Brandyn Hillman had another good game, maybe that mini-suspension was the best thing for his career. He was even directing players into position. Some of Maryland's drops count as triple drops. There's just not much interior rush from this defensive line, maybe play Barham at linebacker against OSU so you can blitz him. Does Wink actually call plays without knowing or caring which personnel are out there? This year you don't have the two best defensive tackles in America and you can't bait Ryan Day into running into a six man box.  3. Hot Takes, Game Theory, and Special Teams Starts at 56:08 Takes hotter than yours truly after he got through the hot takes intro and had to re-do them because the Sklars dropped out of the call. Brian broke Zvada. Chase Taylor gets +4 on the onside kick recovery, that did not feel good. There was no punting from Michigan so we don't have to complain about punting. Marsh had some nice punt returns?? End of first half time management was less than ideal, Goodwin lined up in the wrong spot and they should've called timeout. Stop jumping offside! The late hit by Brandt was a weak call, so was the one on Bryce Underwood. Every replay angle was field-level and somehow they're contradictory?  4. Around the Big Ten with Jamie Mac Starts at 1:19:43 Oregon 42, USC 27 A close-ish looking boxscore but Oregon scored 28 first half points. Oregon has figured out some things after the Indiana game, they're in the 99th percentile in opportunity run rate. They're starting to look like the championship team they were hoping to be.  Iowa 20, Michigan State 17 Iowa pulls out a classic game that they don't deserve to win. MSU QB Alessio Milivojevic punted three times. Michigan State's 8 game losing streak is tied for the 2nd longest, the program record is 10. Tickets for MSU vs Maryland at Ford Field after the game are free!  Northwestern 38, Minnesota 35 An offensive explosion game! Northwestern wins at Wrigley for the first time in 8 attempts.  Wisconsin 27, Illinois 10 Neither team gets to 300 yards of offense. Detroit Lions Podcast: Pressure Rising and Identity on the Line The Detroit Lions return to Ford Field this weekend in what feels like a must win against the New York Giants. Coming off a deflating loss to the Philadelphia Eagles, Detroit cannot afford another slip. In the newest episode of Risdon Reviews the Lions after Philly, the tone shifts from frustration to urgency. The show lays out exactly what went wrong in Philadelphia, what must change fast, and why this match-up with New York may define the trajectory of the season. Offensive Line Problems, Goff's Struggles, and the Blueprint Against Detroit The Lions enter Week 11 with an offense that has been exposed in consecutive losses. Defenses have figured out the formula. The NFL is a copycat league, and the Vikings and Eagles both executed the same plan: attack the interior offensive line, compress the pocket, eliminate the shallow crossers Jared Goff depends on, and force him off rhythm. It worked in Minnesota. It worked even more effectively in Philadelphia. The interior trio of Graham Glasgow, Tate Ratledge, and Kayode Awosika was overwhelmed. The transcript makes it clear that none of them played to the level the Lions need. Ratledge looked like a rookie drowning in high level waters. Glasgow struggled with recognition, leverage, and transitions. Even Awosika, who arguably fared the best of the three, was inconsistent. The Eagles blew up the middle of the field and removed Detroit's bread and butter. The running game never found traction. Goff rarely had clean pockets or clean launch points. The result was predictable: offensive stagnation and stalled drives. What makes the situation more concerning is that Dan Campbell and offensive coordinator John Morton have not yet adapted their system to match personnel. Brock Wright was asked to be Sam LaPorta. Glasgow was treated like Frank Ragnow. Ratledge was given responsibilities better suited for a seasoned veteran. The podcast argues that Detroit must simplify. Play to strengths, not memories of players who are no longer active. The Lions need new answers, new formations, and new wrinkles before defenses bury them under predictability. A Defense Worth Believing In and a Giants Team Detroit Must Beat If there was one beacon of hope from Philadelphia, it was the Lions defense. Jack Campbell played arguably the best game of his young career, totaling fifteen tackles and blowing up multiple Eagles staples. Kelvin Shepherd's defensive front stood up to the notorious tush push, stonewalling it like no team has this season. The Lions forced the Eagles' offense into existential panic. Detroit can win big games with this defense. That is not in question. But injuries remain a hurdle. Terrion Arnold, Brian Branch, Taylor Decker, Kirby Joseph, and Penei Sewell highlight a long and critical injury list. The Giants, despite their record, have a dangerous defensive front. Dexter Lawrence, Brian Burns, and Kayvon Thibodeaux (if healthy) are capable of wrecking an unsteady interior. That makes this game a true test of whether Detroit has learned anything from the last two losses. The Lions cannot afford another misstep. Another loss tightens the playoff picture and erodes confidence. But the podcast remains optimistic. Detroit still controls its fate. Win the next two, including a Thanksgiving rematch with Green Bay, and they will be right back in the NFC North race. As Risdon says, the Lions remain capable of winning anywhere, anytime. But belief must now be paired with answers. The Giants are the moment to show they are still the hunters, not the hunted. https://youtu.be/RlijTEo16vc #LionsMustWin #ProtectGoff #FixTheInterior #ShepherdDefense #GoffAccountability #NextManUpDetroit #GiantsGamePrep #LionsInTheHunt #CampbellCulture #DetroitAdjustments Learn more about your ad choices.
