Send us a textThis week, I had the great pleasure of speaking with my friend and colleague, Dr. David Borge. David is an OB/GYN who has retired from the traditional 9-to-5 work schedule and now enjoys using his expertise in Saipan and, more recently, Panama, his country of birth. As the son of missionaries, David spent his early years with his five siblings in Panama, France, Egypt, and Madagascar. His father, a physician, often brought young David to the hospital, where he could round on patients and observe surgeries. These experiences profoundly enriched his life, fueled his passion for service, and motivated him to become a physician. David's Next Adventure Travel Blog chronicles his work with the Floating Doctors organization. You'll read the stories of his time in Saipan, treating women with cancer, birth defects, and high-risk pregnancies—compounded by a lack of medical support—which will make you appreciate life here in the United States. Although he hasn't yet written about his recent trip to Panama to establish a medical clinic with midwives, I am eagerly anticipating his stories. After delivering thousands of babies in eight countries, David has discovered that kindness, compassion, and competence resonate across cultures and are unified by our common humanity. Prepare yourself for emotional conversation filled with wonder, laughter and tears with an exceptional human. In the five-minute snippet: Well, they are a travel necessity. Here is David Borge. God helg! Hosted on Acast. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

In this episode, I'm speaking for a third time with Borge Fagerli about some powerful mindset techniques he uses in his coaching practice that will help you achieve your fitness, muscle-building, and weight-loss goals. If you haven't yet, be sure to listen to our first two episodes. In them, Borge explains his simplified but highly effective approach to training, gives us some insight into his history, and explains why he's now focused on psychology and mindset rather than the common hyper focus on relatively trivial details that tends to dominate the world of evidence-based fitness.
Ah, simulatorspill. Hosted on Acast. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
In this episode, I'm happy to welcome Borge back for another conversation about fitness. But this time, he's focusing on the importance of mindset. However, this isn't the same mindset information you've heard in other places. Borge has decades of experience as a fitness expert, and he's now approaching health through an incredibly authentic, honest, and highly effective lens that I think will help you achieve your goals, too. In this podcast, Borge and I discuss: Why he switched his focus from purely muscle building to mindset, and the fascinating concept of the Dunning-Kruger effect that fueled this shift Why a big-picture view of health, fitness, and even life might be the best context for understanding new information (and living happily!) versus getting lost in the details Our own personal journeys in the fitness industry and why comparison truly is the thief of joy The role of social media in how we perceive ourselves and the illusion of optimal that it promotes; unfortunately, the algorithm rarely rewards authenticity The signs that let you know someone is lying to you on social media One major step Borge took to bring more honesty and authenticity into his already powerful message Understanding when you should self-experiment and when you should follow a protocol…there's a time and place for both! Is biohacking really as valuable as everyone says it is? Or is there a more simplistic approach to health that's just as effective? The importance of enjoyment as part of our health routines…don't forget to achieve your goals AND have fun!

From humble beginnings wholesaling at a small tobacconist-hairdresser shop in 1915, the London Rubber Company rapidly became the UK's biggest postwar producer and exporter of disposable rubber condoms. A first-mover and innovator, the company's continuous product development and strong brands (including Durex) allowed it to dominate supply to the retail trade and family planning clinics, leading it to intercede in the burgeoning women's market. When oral contraceptives came along, however, the company was caught in a bind between defending condoms against the pill and claiming a segment of the new birth control market for itself. In this first major study on the company, Jessica Borge shows how, despite the "unmentionable" status of condoms that inhibited advertising in the early twentieth century, aggressive business practices were successfully deployed to protect the monopoly and squash competition. Through close, evidence-based examination of LRC's first fifty years, encompassing its most challenging decades, the 1950s and 1960s, as well as an overview of later years including the AIDS crisis, Borge argues that the story of the modern disposable condom in Britain is really the story of the London Rubber Company, the circumstances that befell it, the struggles that beset it, the causes that opposed it, and the opportunities it created for itself. LRC's historic intervention in and contribution to female contraceptive practices sits uneasily with existing narratives centered on women's control of reproduction, but the time has come, Borge argues, for the condom to find its way back to the center of these debates. Protective Practices thereby re-examines a key transitional moment in social and cultural history through the lens of this unusual case study. Dr. Jessica Borge is a research associate , at Archives and Research Collections, King's College, London and a researcher in the private sector.

I met Kristi Borge, 2021 Montana Teacher of the Year, in person during our fall Washington Week event. Her teacher story was intriguing; she teaches in a one-room school. Immediately my mind jumped back to 19th-century schoolmarm, chalkboards, big wooden desks that doubled as lockers, and a bell to let the children know that school is in session. Hearing Kristi's story was powerfully educational for me, as a (relative) city kid. She is responsible for EVERYTHING from clearing the snow, discipline, and if she is out sick, there is no school. She describes maternity leave, the ski resort she purchased with her husband, and the only kind of traffic jam you will ever see in her area. Plus we find solidarity in challenges that face both urban and rural kids. Listen, learn, and disrupted your assumptions!

What's your advice on consuming 1 bottle of this kombucha per day with no added sugar but 15-20 grams of carbs per bottle from various fruit juices? Thanks! Paleo and Dementia Prevention [10:39] Rebecca says: Hi Robb. I am a long time fan and we did actually meet at the Keto Conference in Long Beach in 2019. I have a question and hoping you can shine some of your light - which I trust immensely as a healthcare provider. I have been doing more research on dementia prevention and the data is very skewed towards the Mediterranean Diet - which increases whole grains and limits fats and proteins. As someone who believes in Paleo (and keto for certain conditions), what has your research guided you towards for nutritional prevention of dementia? I look forward to your response! https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/31996078/ This looks at using mct oil....this might be the easier one to tackle: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BHVDMcJn2YE Hypercarnivore Don Matesz Claims We Should Stop Adding Salt [14:48] Borge says: Chose a grabbing subject line there, didn't I? :) Since you are the “salt/electrolyte guy” (you are obviously so much more than that), I just wanted to share this article with you: https://www.fullrangestrength.com/salt-promotes-atherosclerosis.html Don is the author of two books, The Hypercarnivore and more recently Meats & Sweets. Yes, same as with Carnivore Aurelius and Paul Saladino, he's been swayed to add fruits and roots to his carnivore/keto approach. But more recently he started posting about his discoveries about sodium and that we should stop adding sodium to our foods, as it will imbalance the potassium:sodium ratio. I would love to hear your thoughts on this. Maybe it's not important on a carb-based diet, but on a low-carb/keto/carnivore diet where insulin is low it is more important? The research he refers to is all from carb-based diets. https://www.ketogenicforums.com/t/thoughts-on-farewell-to-paleo-post/3932 Sponsor: The Healthy Rebellion Radio is sponsored by our electrolyte company, LMNT. Twinkle Borge is the leader of Pu‘uhonua O Wai‘anae, a village of 250 people living unhoused on State land adjacent to the Waianae Boat Harbor. She has organized her village into a powerful asset for the wider community that offers safety, healing, and purpose to people who've lost their housing. POW residents serve Waianae in a variety of ways, including conducting regular cleanups all across the Waianae Coast, feeding and clothing residents of other houseless encampments, and distributing back to school supplies each year to both houseless and housed families in need. In 2018, Twinkle and others led an effort to defend the village from the threat of State eviction, then spent the next year and a half raising funds to purchase land that the village could relocate to. In 2020, Twinkle and the village completed the purchase of 20 acres in Waianae Valley for their permanent home, and are now working on construction. She is also a member of the Steering Committee of Hui Aloha. James Koshiba - In 2015, frustrated by the explosion of homelessness in Hawaii, and dwindling compassion for those on the street, James pitched a tent in a large urban encampment and forged relationships with people experiencing homelessness. He later became a supporter and student of Pu‘uhonua O Wai‘anae, a self-organized village of more than 250 people living unhoused at the Waianae Boat Harbor. Through these relationships, he began to understand homelessness as a problem of severed connections with place and community. He co-founded Hui Aloha, to demonstrate how re-building community with those who are marginalized is key to solving some of our most persistent social problems, including homelessness. Today, Hui Aloha partners with people on the street to launch service projects in their communities, reconnecting them with housed neighbors, and help both housed and unhoused people find healing and purpose together. HA is now working to build affordable homes for those who cannot afford housing in Hawaii, which has the largest gap between housing costs and wages of any state in the nation. Prior to Hui Aloha, James co-founded and was Executive Director of Kanu Hawaii, which worked to build movement for sustainability. He was born and raised on Oahu, Hawaii and spent several years on the continent earning degrees from Brown University and the Harvard Kennedy School of Government.
