Carl & Eitan spend most of the episode discussing 2 new developments in the Oscars metagame. First off, the Academy and Google announced that the Oscars telecast will be moving to YouTube in 2029. Next, many of the branches announced their shortlists for below-the-line categories. To round things out (and to move away from awards chatter!), the boys give a quick update on David Ellison's latest attempt to spend Daddy Ellison's money.

Christmas Must Buy Books The Black Spy Podcast 224, Season 23, Episode 0004 This week's Black Spy Podcast sees host Carlton King step away from headlines and hard geopolitics to offer listeners something more seasonal – a carefully curated list of books he believes make powerful, thought-provoking Christmas stocking fillers, each chosen for its ability to inform, challenge and inspire. At the heart of the episode is Carlton's own memoir, Black Ops – The Incredible True Story of a (Black) British Secret Agent, which he frames not as self-promotion, but as an essential corrective to the narrow way British intelligence history is usually told. From there, the discussion broadens into history, politics, race, psychology and power. Titles such as Der Unvergessene Krieg and Winston Churchill's Young Winston are explored as windows into how wars are remembered, mythologised and used to shape national identity. Carlton places particular emphasis on works that reclaim obscured histories, including Great Men of Colour by Joel Rogers, UNESCO's monumental History of Africa, They Came Before the Mayflower by Dr Ivan Van Sertima, and Black Athena by Martin Bernal. Together, these books challenge Eurocentric narratives and ask listeners to rethink who is written into – and out of – world history. The episode also highlights contemporary relevance through Male Menopause – The Hidden Crisis by Dr Rachel Taylor and Carlton King, linking mental health, masculinity and social silence, while Rupert Alison's The Branch offers insight into the often-misunderstood machinery of British intelligence. To close, Carlton turns to dystopian classics – George Orwell's 1984 and Aldous Huxley's Brave New World – arguing they are no longer warnings about the future, but commentaries on the present. He rounds off by recommending the enduring moral clarity found in the works of Charles Dickens. It's an episode that treats books not as escapism, but as tools for awakening – perfect gifts for curious minds. So, please get informed and don't miss these discussions by subscribing to the Black Spy Podcast for free, so you never miss another fascinating episode.

And they shall dwell secure, for now he shall be great to the ends of the earth. 5 And he shall be their peace. When the Assyrian comes into our land and treads in our palaces, then we will raise against him seven shepherds and eight princes of men; 6 they shall shepherd the land of Assyria with the sword, and the land of Nimrod at its entrances; and he shall deliver us from the Assyrian when he comes into our land and treads within our border. Matthew 2:1-2 Now after Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judea in the days of Herod the king, behold, wise men from the east came to Jerusalem, 2 saying, “Where is he who has been born king of the Jews? For we saw his star when it rose and have come to worship him.” Numbers 24:17 …a star shall come out of Jacob, and a scepter shall rise out of Israel… Matthew 2:3-4 When Herod the king heard this, he was troubled, and all Jerusalem with him; 4 and assembling all the chief priests and scribes of the people, he inquired of them where the Christ was to be born. Matthew 2:5-6 They told him, “In Bethlehem of Judea, for so it is written by the prophet: 6 “‘And you, O Bethlehem, in the land of Judah, are by no means least among the rulers of Judah; for from you shall come a ruler who will shepherd my people Israel.'” Micah 5:2 But you, O Bethlehem Ephrathah, who are too little to be among the clans of Judah, from you shall come forth for me one who is to be ruler in Israel, whose coming forth is from of old, from ancient days. 2 Samuel 5:2 In times past, when Saul was king over us, it was you who led out and brought in Israel. And the Lord said to you, ‘You shall be shepherd of my people Israel, and you shall be prince over Israel.'” Matthew 2:7-8 Then Herod summoned the wise men secretly and ascertained from them what time the star had appeared. 8 And he sent them to Bethlehem, saying, “Go and search diligently for the child, and when you have found him, bring me word, that I too may come and worship him.” Matthew 2:9 After listening to the king, they went on their way. And behold, the star that they had seen when it rose went before them until it came to rest over the place where the child was. Matthew 2:10-12 When they saw the star, they rejoiced exceedingly with great joy. 11 And going into the house, they saw the child with Mary his mother, and they fell down and worshiped him. Then, opening their treasures, they offered him gifts, gold and frankincense and myrrh. 12 And being warned in a dream not to return to Herod, they departed to their own country by another way. Matthew 2:13-15 Now when they had departed, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to Joseph in a dream and said, “Rise, take the child and his mother, and flee to Egypt, and remain there until I tell you, for Herod is about to search for the child, to destroy him.” 14 And he rose and took the child and his mother by night and departed to Egypt 15 and remained there until the death of Herod. This was to fulfill what the Lord had spoken by the prophet, “Out of Egypt I called my son.” Exodus 4:21-23 And the LORD said to Moses, “When you go back to Egypt, see that you do before Pharaoh all the miracles that I have put in your power. But I will harden his heart, so that he will not let the people go. 22 Then you shall say to Pharaoh, ‘Thus says the LORD, Israel is my firstborn son, 23 and I say to you, “Let my son go that he may serve me.” If you refuse to let him go, behold, I will kill your firstborn son.'” Hosea 11:1 When Israel was a child, I loved him, and out of Egypt I called my son. Galatians 3:16 Now the promises were made to Abraham and to his offspring. It does not say, “And to offsprings,” referring to many, but referring to one, “And to your offspring,” who is Christ. Matthew 2:16 Then Herod, when he saw that he had been tricked by the wise men, became furious, and he sent and killed all the male children in Bethlehem and in all that region who were two years old or under, according to the time that he had ascertained from the wise men. Genesis 3:15 I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your offspring and her offspring; he shall bruise your head, and you shall bruise his heel. Matthew 2:17-18 Then was fulfilled what was spoken by the prophet Jeremiah: 18 “A voice was heard in Ramah, weeping and loud lamentation, Rachel weeping for her children; she refused to be comforted, because they are no more.” Jeremiah 31:15-17 Thus says the LORD: “A voice is heard in Ramah, lamentation and bitter weeping. Rachel is weeping for her children; she refuses to be comforted for her children, because they are no more.” 16 Thus says the LORD: “Keep your voice from weeping, and your eyes from tears, for there is a reward for your work, declares the LORD, and they shall come back from the land of the enemy. 17 There is hope for your future, declares the LORD, and your children shall come back to their own country. Jeremiah 33:14-16 “Behold, the days are coming, declares the LORD, when I will fulfill the promise I made to the house of Israel and the house of Judah. 15 In those days and at that time I will cause a righteous Branch to spring up for David, and he shall execute justice and righteousness in the land. 16 In those days Judah will be saved, and Jerusalem will dwell securely. And this is the name by which it will be called: ‘The LORD is our righteousness.' Mathew 2:19-21 But when Herod died, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared in a dream to Joseph in Egypt, 20 saying, “Rise, take the child and his mother and go to the land of Israel, for those who sought the child’s life are dead.” 21 And he rose and took the child and his mother and went to the land of Israel. Matthew 2:22-23 But when he heard that Archelaus was reigning over Judea in place of his father Herod, he was afraid to go there, and being warned in a dream he withdrew to the district of Galilee. 23 And he went and lived in a city called Nazareth, so that what was spoken by the prophets might be fulfilled, that he would be called a Nazarene. John 1:46 Nathanael said to him, “Can anything good come out of Nazareth?” Philip said to him, “Come and see.” Jesus is our true deliverer. Colossians 1:13-14 He has delivered us from the domain of darkness and transferred us to the kingdom of his beloved Son, 14 in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins. Jesus is our true comforter. Matthew 5:4 Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted. Jesus is our true King. Isaiah 11:1 There shall come forth a shoot from the stump of Jesse, and a branch from his roots shall bear fruit. Isaiah 53:2-3 For he grew up before him like a young plant, and like a root out of dry ground; he had no form or majesty that we should look at him, and no beauty that we should desire him. 3 He was despised and rejected by men, a man of sorrows and acquainted with grief; and as one from whom men hide their faces he was despised, and we esteemed him not. Does your life feel like a stump right now? When we look at a stump, we usually see an end—judgment, destruction, or a life cut short. But in the Kingdom of God, a stump isn't a sign of death; it's a setup for a miracle. As we near the end of our Jesse Tree Advent series, we explore the powerful prophecy of Isaiah 11. Just as the mighty nation of Israel was cut down to a stump, many of us feel “cut down” by poor decisions, grief, or the weight of the world. But deep within the Stump of Jesse was a Root that couldn't be killed and a Shoot destined to change the world—Jesus. Join us as we discover how Jesus is the Root (our divine source), the Shoot (the humble baby in a manger), and the Branch that bears Fruit in our lives today. If you feel overlooked, undervalued, or left behind this Christmas, this message is for you. It's time to see your “stump” as a place of redemption, restoration, and renewal. The thing that looks like the end of your story might actually be the place where God is about to bring new life.
Fourth Sunday in Advent The Branch From Jesse 11 A shoot will come up from the stump of Jesse; from his roots a Branch will bear fruit. 2 The Spirit of the Lord will rest on him— the Spirit of wisdom and of understanding, the Spirit of counsel and of might, the Spirit of the knowledge and fear of the Lord— 3 and he will delight in the fear of the Lord. He will not judge by what he sees with his eyes, or decide by what he hears with his ears; 4 but with righteousness he will judge the needy, with justice he will give decisions for the poor of the earth. He will strike the earth with the rod of his mouth; with the breath of his lips he will slay the wicked. 5 Righteousness will be his belt and faithfulness the sash around his waist. 6 The wolf will live with the lamb, the leopard will lie down with the goat, the calf and the lion and the yearling[a] together; and a little child will lead them. 7 The cow will feed with the bear, their young will lie down together, and the lion will eat straw like the ox. 8 The infant will play near the cobra's den, and the young child will put its hand into the viper's nest. 9 They will neither harm nor destroy on all my holy mountain, for the earth will be filled with the knowledge of the Lord as the waters cover the sea. 10 In that day the Root of Jesse will stand as a banner for the peoples; the nations will rally to him, and his resting place will be glorious. Branch Lotspeich is co-founder and Director of the Rescue Tube Foundation, a non-profit based on Kauai, Hawaii, whose mission is to save lives. Is there a more important purpose for an organization? I don't think so. If you've spent time on the Hawaiian islands, there is a good chance that you've seen, or been in close proximity to a Rescue Tube. Hopefully you've not needed to use one or be saved by one; but that's what they are there for… and that's exactly what they do. Hundreds of these “public access rescue devices” are strategically placed on beaches around the islands (and on the mainland) where there are typically no lifeguards. These Rescue Tubes provide a safe and effective way for a family or community member or any Good Samaritan to save lives when professional lifeguards are not present. Countless rescues have been made with these tubes, and dozens of lives have been saved with their assistance; and no rescuers have been hurt in the process while employing a rescue tube on a rescue. Amazing. Branch tells his story and how he was compelled to jump in deep with the Rescue Tubes and ultimately co-found the Foundation many years ago. Incredible safety statistics have driven significant awareness, accolades and recognition; and it is not slowing down. Branch's legacy and that of the Rescue Tube Foundation will continue to save lives across the Hawaiian Islands and well beyond. Hallelujah.

Episode 1905: Steve Pavlina emphasizes that marketing a product requires as much dedication as creating it, if not more. Drawing from personal experience and the Rule of 5 approach by Jack Canfield, he outlines how consistent, diversified, and strategic promotion builds long-term momentum, especially when starting without an audience. Read along with the original article(s) here: https://stevepavlina.com/blog/2013/07/marketing-your-product/ Quotes to ponder: "When you release a new product, plan to spend at least as much time promoting it as you did creating it." "Don't keep hammering your Facebook and Twitter followers and expecting a landslide. Branch out and get the word out in other ways." "If you don't feel good about your product, you'll probably find it a hellish burden to spend hundreds of hours promoting it." It's a conversation that we would rather have no need to take place with a woman who I'd rather never have met, at least in the context in which we have met. 15 years ago this week, Tal Hartuv was nearly stabbed to death as she witnessed the murder of her friend Kristine Luken, an American Christian, before her eyes. Its an auspicious "anniversary," especially in the wake of two years of war against Islamic terrorists, and the recent "ceasefire" that saw one of the savages who stabbed her multiple times and murdered Kristine, released. This is a compelling and important reflection based on current events Get information about how you can join FOOTSTEPS at https://genesis123.co/footsteps/For information about and how to register for Root & Branch, please go to www.RootandBranchIsrael.comConnect with the Genesis 123 Foundation at www.Genesis123.co and learn how you can host Shabbat in your community.FB - www.facebook.com/Genesis123Foundation Twitter - @Genesis123FIG - Genesis_123_FoundationFind out how you can be part of Run for Zion and bless Israel with every step at www.RunforZion.com.

In this new Tasting Talk, Dan is joined by guest host Oliver as they dive into a special release from Branch Point Distillery — the Rare & Limited Oloroso Cask Finish. They explore how the Oloroso sherry cask shapes the whiskey's aroma, flavor, and strikingly dark color, discussing what that deep, rich hue says about the cask influence and extended finishing time. Dan and Oliver break down layers of banana, dried fruit, nutty sweetness, and oak-driven complexity while talking about why sherry finishes can add both depth in flavor and intensity in appearance. They also discuss what makes this limited release stand out, the role of secondary maturation, and why rare cask-finished whiskeys like this are worth paying attention to.

Big Idea: God completely cleanses and restores his sin-stained children. I. God cleanses a filthy man of his sin.Zechariah 3:1-5Then he showed me the high priest Joshua standing before the angel of the Lord, with Satan standing at his right side to accuse him. The Lord said to Satan, “The Lord rebuke you, Satan! May the Lord who has chosen Jerusalem rebuke you! Isn't this man a burning stick snatched from the fire?” Now Joshua was dressed with filthy clothes as he stood before the angel. So the angel of the Lord spoke to those standing before him, “Take off his filthy clothes!” Then he said to him, “See, I have removed your iniquity from you, and I will clothe you with festive robes.” Then I said, “Let them put a clean turban on his head.” So a clean turban was placed on his head, and they clothed him in garments while the angel of the Lord was standing nearby.II. God restores an untrustworthy man to his service.Zechariah 3:6-7Then the angel of the Lord charged Joshua, “This is what the Lord of Armies says: If you walk in my ways and keep my mandates, you will both rule my house and take care of my courts; I will also grant you access among these who are standing here.III. God promises a broken world his salvation.Zechariah 3:8-10“Listen, High Priest Joshua, you and your colleagues sitting before you; indeed, these men are a sign that I am about to bring my servant, the Branch. Notice the stone I have set before Joshua; on that one stone are seven eyes. I will engrave an inscription on it”—this is the declaration of the Lord of Armies—“and I will take away the iniquity of this land in a single day. On that day, each of you will invite his neighbor to sit under his vine and fig tree.” This is the declaration of the Lord of Armies.Next Steps: Believe: Today, I surrender my soul to King Jesus.Become: I will stop listening to the accuser and start listening to the Father this week. Be Sent: I will share how Jesus forgave me with someone this week. Discussion Questions: What challenges have you faced in this broken world this year? How do you react when someone points out your faults?Do you consider your sin less filthy than someone else's?Will God trust great responsibilities to someone who isn't faithful to keep his Word? Explain your answer.Do you hold on to guilt or shame even after God has forgiven you?Give the first name of someone who needs to experience Jesus's forgiveness this week.Thank God for his gift of forgiveness today.

Statement win sets up a pivotal Week 15 The Detroit Lions are back in the win column. A Thursday night win over the Cowboys steadied the season and kept the heat off. The offense looked like itself again. The defense forced turnovers, hit Dak Prescott, and finished plays with sacks. That combination travels in the NFL, and it mattered here. An in-game twist changed the shape of Dallas' attack. CeeDee Lamb exited, and the Cowboys struggled to land counters without their top weapon. Detroit seized control with pressure and opportunism. The front won early downs. Short fields and extra possessions followed. The result pushed the Lions forward and put a dent in Dallas' postseason hopes. The Detroit Lions Podcast framed it like a play-in vibe. Not literally, with four games left, but close. A crisis averted. A win that reset the pulse and moved focus to Week 15 versus the Rams. Secondary in flux after Branch's Achilles The price was heavy. Branch suffered an Achilles injury. It's brutal, not only for his talent but his versatility. He can trigger downhill, play single high, rotate as a split safety, and man up in the slot. That toolbox is hard to replace on the back end. Safety remains unsettled. There is doubt about a Kirby Joseph return. The room has seen looks at veterans such as Jalen Mills and Damontae Kazee. Avonte Maddox appears first in line for more work. He flashed against Dallas. He closed space, nearly stole a pick, and read routes with confidence. One chest-high deflection could have been six the other way. Another break on a tight end route forced a modest gain instead of a chunk. Depth took more hits. Thomas Harper is in concussion protocol after a scary moment. That leaves Detroit balancing personnel with structure. There is a path here. Earlier this season, a shorthanded group versus Washington leaned into more zone concepts. It wasn't simple, but it fit the lineup and looked sharp. With DJ Reed and Terrion Arnold back, the defense leaned heavily on man coverage again. That works if quick pressure arrives. Without it, the risk spikes. The question now: blend? Dial up zone on early downs, sprinkle man on money downs, and let the rush dictate. With Branch out, the call sheet must protect leverage and angles while keeping the pass rush connected to coverage. What travels to Rams week Week 15 brings the Rams and a fresh stress test. Detroit's pass rush just changed a game. It needs to do it again. Turnovers fueled the win over Dallas. They must show up on the road. The coverage plan is the hinge. Maddox's snaps matter. Reed and Arnold's technique and eye discipline matter. So does tackling after the catch. The formula is clear. Start fast. Hit the quarterback. Win takeaways. Keep the secondary out of isolation for long stretches. Do that, and the Detroit Lions keep stacking wins in December. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y5_BozdF7ac #detroitlions #lions #detroitlionspodcast #dakprescott #ceedeelamb #week15atrams #brianbranchachilles #kirbyjoseph #jalenmills #damontaekazee #avontemaddox #djreed #terrionarnold Learn more about your ad choices. John Pemberton Gatewood was a notorious Confederate bushwhacker/guerrilla leader. Born in Fentress County, Tennessee, in 1844, Gatewood's life took a dark turn after a Union attack on his family led him to abandon the Confederate army and become a guerrilla fighter. Leading his own unit in north Georgia and known as the long-haired, red-bearded beast, Gatewood was driven by his thirst for revenge after the brutal assault on his family. https://wels2.blob.core.windows.net/daily-devotions/20251213dev.mp3 Listen to Devotion A shoot will come up from the stump of Jesse; from his roots a Branch will bear fruit. The Spirit of the LORD will rest on him—the Spirit of wisdom and of understanding, the Spirit of counsel and of might, the Spirit of knowledge and fear of the LORD—and he will delight in the fear of the LORD. . . In that day the Root of Jesse will stand as a banner for the peoples; the nations will rally to him, and his resting place will be glorious. Isaiah 11:1-3,10 Put Your Hope in Jesus Have you ever heard of nurse logs? They are dead tree trunks, like stumps. Yet, those dead trees are still thriving. The decaying surface of the dead tree creates a perfect growing medium for a tiny seed, for a shoot. The decaying tree becomes a nursemaid, a nurse-tree, to the new tree generation. Out of the stump of Jesse, a shoot, a Branch came up; it was the baby Jesus. Like a tiny shoot, his beginnings were humble. A little twig from a small town. Born in a stable with only shepherds and livestock to greet him. Born helpless and dependent on others. But despite the humble beginnings, this Branch was special. Jesus, the living shoot, comes up out of the dead stump, bringing life out of death. By his perfect life and his death on the cross, Jesus saves us from eternal death! By taking our sins on himself, he freed us from guilt and gave us his perfection! Jesus’ death is our death. His life is our life. His righteousness is our righteousness. Does your life feel like a stump? Have you been cut down by the axe of adversity? Have the problems of this life chopped you down at the knees? All is not lost. There is hope in the Root of Jesse. There is hope in Jesus. He offers you his life and his perfection. He offers you everything! He offers you peace and rest, which you’ll find nowhere else. Put your hope in Jesus. Trust in him for everything! It will be glorious. You have God’s Word on that! Prayer: Dear Lord Jesus, Righteous Branch, send your Holy Spirit into my heart through the power of your Word so I can enjoy your perfect rest. Amen. Daily Devotions is brought to you by WELS. The prophet Zechariah was a contemporary of the prophet Haggai; both prophesy to those exiles returning to Jerusalem, but while Haggai focuses mainly on rebuilding the temple, Zechariah sees visions of a future king. As such is the case, the Gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John incorporate more passages from Zechariah than from any other prophet. In today's reading, Zechariah prophesies through night visions; we'll cover 5 out of 8 of them in this episode. One is of horsemen who patrol the world, another of horns and craftsmen, another of a man who surveys and measures Jerusalem, a fourth of the high priest Joshua and a servant called the Branch, and a fifth of a gold lampstand.Zechariah 1 - 1:13 .
