A good teacher takes something familiar, lifts it up, and turns it ever so slightly so that it is seen in fresh ways. In Matthew 16, Jesus asks his disciples “Who do you say I am?” The Bible, however, assumes we know more than we do – for example, that we understand some particulars about gates, keys, and where Jesus asked this question. With a little work though, we will learn that this passage indicates that the church was established on shifting ground and thinking in new and uncomfortable ways, and this is no less true for the church today.Come worship with Hillside Covenant Church LIVE at 10:00 AM both online and in person as Todd Slechta teaches from Matthew 16:13-18 & Luke 8:22-31.This week's sermon notes are available at: https://u.pcloud.link/publink/show?code=XZJl5B5ZpsfBVquzzBRda8NBs4TpjRHytBwXIf you are new to Hillside and are looking for ways to get connected and build community, visit our website: https://www.hillsidecovenant.org/ We welcome you to Hillside and are so glad you joined us today! To give in support of Hillside Covenant and its ministries follow this link: https://hillsidecovenant.churchcenter.com/givingThe sermon from Hillside Covenant Church, Sunday, July 13, 2025.

Join us on the hill at 10:00 A.M. for a Communion worship service in which the whole Hillside family will be in one place. We're pressing on in our Grace 180 message series with the second half of last week's message from I Thessalonians 4. This message is an equipping message. It's meant to help us be more effective in sharing the good news of Jesus with people in our world whose views about sexuality are different from our own. This message is deep and you might have to listen to it twice. Nevertheless, I'm convinced if you lock in, you'll emerge both better equipped to “share Christ” (a key part of our Hillside mission) and wiser in God's supreme purposes in the gifts of his Son and Spirit. Can't wait to see you!Come worship with Hillside Covenant Church LIVE at 10:00 AM both online and in person as Dan Seitz teaches from I Thessalonians 4:3-5.This week's sermon notes are available at: https://u.pcloud.link/publink/show?code=XZfF1f5ZNE97RrprGUksKdW4sfMfbpVvwi5yIf you are new to Hillside and are looking for ways to get connected and build community, visit our website: https://www.hillsidecovenant.org/ We welcome you to Hillside and are so glad you joined us today! To give in support of Hillside Covenant and its ministries follow this link: https://hillsidecovenant.churchcenter.com/givingThe sermon from Hillside Covenant Church, Sunday, July 6, 2025.

Happy Pentecost Hillside! This Sunday we join with churches around the world in celebration of the event that marked the birth of the Church (Acts 2:1-4). There was a powerful outpouring of the Holy Spirit on that day. We will take a tour through the Scriptures to commemorate His ARRIVAL, and celebrate His ongoing MINISTRY. In light of our Grace 180 series, we will consider how to ensure that we Do not QUENCH the Spirit (1 Thessalonians 5:19), but instead Fan the Flame, in our lives and in our church!Come worship with Hillside Covenant Church LIVE at 10:00 AM both online and in person as Pete Stafford teaches from Acts 2:1-4 & I Thessalonians 5:19.This week's sermon notes are available at: https://u.pcloud.link/publink/show?code=XZFOhj5ZSmPmz8wp89XFDYOTASD3SSYHrWtyIf you are new to Hillside and are looking for ways to get connected and build community, visit our website: https://www.hillsidecovenant.org/ We welcome you to Hillside and are so glad you joined us today! To give in support of Hillside Covenant and its ministries follow this link: https://hillsidecovenant.churchcenter.com/givingThe sermon from Hillside Covenant Church, Sunday, June 8, 2025.

Hello Hillside! I've been gone for a while due to a pesky case of pneumonia. I'm feeling better now, in no small part thanks to your prayers, encouraging messages, and soup. Since I preached in the park this morning and missed many of you again, Jeriah and I recorded what I shared today in case you want a second take on I Thessalonians 2:9-12 (Becky's message on this same passage is sure to have been rich). I hope both messages inspire you to go "further and deeper" into the God who "calls you into his own kingdom and glory." Did Jesus truly rise from the dead? And what does His resurrection mean for us today? In week 3 of Exploring Jesus, Dr. David Nystrom explores these vital questions. He examines the historical evidence for Jesus' crucifixion, the implausibility of theories like resuscitation or the "wrong tomb," and the unique nature of the disciples' unwavering conviction. Why did they believe in a resurrected Messiah when no such expectation existed? How does the resurrection challenge standard historical methods? Listen as Dr. Nystrom discusses these points, reads the Gospel accounts, and shares why this event is not just a matter of ancient history, but one that speaks profoundly to our lives and deepest questions today. Good morning Hillside! It's Sunday, the best day of the week. And that means it's time to throw the kids in the station wagon and drive (slowly and carefully) through the Parkmead neighborhood to church! This week's message is Part 10 of our winter series, Strange Real Wonderful, from the first half of Mark's Gospel. Although this message is as fresh and original as a Julien Pie Company Dutch apple, to catch the vision contained in the punchline of this sermon, it will help to have heard the sermon from February 9 called: "A Dinner Party in 3-D." So, if you missed church back on February 9, how about giving that message a listen while heading to 2060 Magnolia Ave. from San Ramon or Cordelia, or wherever you come from. Here's the link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oiRnE8W7B-0. Hello Hillside! What a joy it is to gather together to worship and praise our great God! As we continue our Real Strange Wonderful series through Mark, we're stepping into a chaotic moment—a storm. A really big storm. Fear is everywhere, but at the heart of it all, we find a calm Savior. Maybe you're facing a storm in your own life right now. This could be just the right time to be reminded to fix your gaze on Jesus—or even to invite Him into your boat. Because in this passage, there's a promise that's too good to miss. We are so excited to worship, pray, and dive into God's Word with you this Sunday at Hillside!Worship with Hillside Covenant Church as Stephen Wysong teaches from Mark 4:35-41 (CSB).This week's sermon notes are available at https://u.pcloud.link/publink/show?code=XZYzd45ZFBdIMllvQypAvo03MvWwp8grX8qyIf you are new to Hillside and are looking for ways to get connected and build community, visit our website: https://www.hillsidecovenant.org/ We welcome you to Hillside and are so glad you joined us today! To give in support of Hillside Covenant and its ministries follow this link: https://hillsidecovenant.churchcenter.com/givingThe sermon from Hillside Covenant Church, Sunday, March 9, 2025.

Who here likes weird sermons? I do! On a scale from 1-10, the sermon I've prepared for you as part of our Strange Real Wonderful winter series from Mark 1-9 rates about 7.6 in "weirdness." Weird though it may be, it's biblical, and I'm hoping that God uses it to inject spiritual adrenaline into your veins. Can't wait to see you at either 9:00 or 10:45 AM on our park-like church campus which our Yardscape ministry team keeps looking like a patch of the new creation. Thank them, will ya? And while I'm at it, thank you for the service you give on your Hillside ministry team! And your prayers. And your giving. And your attendance.
