November 10-16The lesson we study today has some of the most transcendent and astonishing teachings that Joseph Smith gave us, opening our ideas to what really is in the eternities and how we can obtain the blessings we desire. We will also be talking about what is sometimes a challenging principle, that has puzzled many for a lifetime, and at least once, led me to tears—plural marriage. Stay tuned.
Send me a Text Message!Astonishing generosity. In the midst of NT Wright's book, entitled, Jesus and the Victory of God, he uses those two words to describe a key characteristic that Jesus' expected of his followers. Astonishing generosity. Let those two words roll around in your brain a bit, those who follow Jesus should be marked by astonishing generosity, not just marked by the astonishing generosity of Jesus to us, but because of his generosity to us, we should be marked by our astonishing generosity to others. Now Wright isn't talking about money. It would perhaps be a bit easier if it was just money. He's talking about a more difficult kind of generosity. Grace. Forgiveness those who betray us. Loving our enemies. When it comes to that kind of generosity, ask yourself, "Has my generosity ever astonished anyone?"
John Allen thinks people are missing the potential reversal of corporate tax cuts. He discusses the enormous AI capex from the top four hyperscalers, calling it “astonishing” and saying it makes up “at least 0.5% - 1%” of GDP. He thinks the U.S. is “better positioned than China to win the AI race,” and thinks valuations “could be reasonable.”======== Schwab Network ========Empowering every investor and trader, every market day. A coming-of-age novel told from the perspective of the irrepressible Christina, whose encounters with Catholic school nuns, Italian mothers, and small-town Massachusetts will have readers laughing out loud, even when Christina isn't. "An awkward, spiky Italian American teen navigates family chaos, Catholic school, and misogyny in 1960s Boston, with brio . . . [T]his brash, witty, slice-of-life book is a feast. Think Adriana Trigiani writing with a sharpened nib, and pray to your own saints that we'll read more from Leone soon." -Kirkus Reviews"Christina the Astonishing is a wonderful book, the funniest I've read in a long time, though there's a lot of melancholy in it as well. All the Catholic lore is hilarious, and the portrait of Italian immigrant life is too . . . Leone writes so well about the awkwardness of adolescent sex and romance." -Tom Perrotta, author of Tracy Flick Can't WinChristie Falcone is a 13-year-old eighth grader at Precious Blood Junior High. She is growing up pazza according to her Italian immigrant mother, Rita, who curses a country that poisons children with chocolate milk and singing mice on television. The nuns at Precious Blood are giving Christina nightmares and facial tics with their daily descriptions of torture and martyrdom. All she'd wanted as a fourth-grader was to become a saint so she could be God's best friend and go straight to heaven and avoid burning in hell for all eternity. At thirteen, though, Christina's nightmares about eyeless martyrs have become dreams of escaping this place where she can see the entire trajectory of her life looming before her in a never-ending hamster loop that goes from Precious Blood to La Sposa Bridal Shoppe and eventually across the street to Carmello's Funeral Home without ever leaving her neighborhood only seven miles from Boston. But Harvard Square beckons and Christina's window to the world cracks open, along with the entire American culture of the 1960s, as she grows from girl to woman.Christina the Astonishing is an endearing look at an unforgettable character that will ring true to all readers regardless of the time or place they happened to take the roller-coaster ride to adulthood.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/arroe-collins-like-it-s-live--4113802/support.
Why are the numbers 1, 2, and 3 across the top of a phone keypad but across the bottom of a calculator? It's not random — and once you hear the logic, you'll never look at a keypad the same way again. That's just one of three quirky mysteries I explain at the start of this episode, along with surprising insights about portholes and time. Source: Ivan Semeniuk, co-author of Why Don't Penguins' Feet Freeze? (https://amzn.to/3sf8muM) Achievement can be wonderful — until it starts defining your worth. When you believe you matter only because of what you accomplish, it can lead to burnout, anxiety, and even shame. Journalist and social commentator Jennifer Wallace, author of Never Enough: When Achievement Culture Becomes Toxic—And What We Can Do About It( https://amzn.to/49jkdIQ), reveals how modern “achievement culture” took hold, why it's making so many people miserable, and how to redefine success so it actually feels good. The ocean covers 70% of our planet, yet we've explored only a fraction of it. Beneath the surface lies an astonishing, interconnected system that shapes everything from our weather to our food. Physicist and oceanographer Helen Czerski, author of The Blue Machine: How the Ocean Works (https://amzn.to/3scCyXo), takes us on a fascinating deep dive into the hidden forces that drive the sea — and why there's really only one global ocean. According to one marriage expert, there's a remarkably simple thing any woman can do to motivate the man in her life — and it works every time. A live recording and chat with Aoife Barry from our recent Listening Party for Jeff Buckley's Grace (1994) at the Big Romance in Dublin. One of the '90s most revered albums, Grace is an astonishing debut LP from the American singer-songwriter Jeff Buckley. Sadly, it was to be his only album as he tragically died three years later but the album is considered a classic for its wide-ranging, reaching vocals (Buckley's voice spanned four octaves), its resonant melding of rock, folk, soul and jazz and songs of intensity, beauty and grandeur including of course, the definitive cover of Leonard Cohen's 'Hallelujah', along with songs like 'Lover, You Should've Come Over', 'Mojo Pin', and 'Grace'. Baroque, sweeping, poetic, soul–baring, biblical, elemental and melodramatic Grace is considered one of the best debut albums of all time, and generally just one of the best records of all time. The high drama of his life imbues Buckley's songs with a level of intensity and singular weight It's no wonder that it's an album that teenagers are still discovering today. We discuss the record in front of a live Listen Closely audience. Listen on Apple | Android | Patreon | Pocketcasts | CastBox | Stitcher | Spotify | RSS Feed | Pod.Link

A new MP3 sermon from Anchored In Truth Ministries is now available on SermonAudio with the following details: Title: Jesus: He Is Astonishing Speaker: Jeff Noblit Broadcaster: Anchored In Truth Ministries Event: Sunday Service Date: 10/12/2025 Bible: Luke 2:41-52 Length: 47 min.
“We were walking across a field in heaven, when a little boy walked up to me, said, ‘Hi, my name is Daniel. I think that you're my dad.' He told me that he had been here for a long, long time. I've grown up here with a bunch of others, since we were little babies. Indeed, many years before, my wife had a miscarriage of a baby that we were going to call Daniel.” ---------- In 2021, COVID nearly took Steve Boyls' life. His odds of survival were slim—15 to 20 percent—and he slipped into a coma for 21 days, on a ventilator for 45. His wife, Kathy, a doctor, knew exactly how bad it was, but because of hospital restrictions, she couldn't visit, even to hold his hand, for 20 days. While Kathy was fighting on earth, Steve was being carried by his angel into heaven's throne room. He stood before Jesus and the Father. He saw war horses being trained for the end times, shared heavenly food, reunited with loved ones—including a son, Daniel, lost through miscarriage—and was taught truths he had never even wanted to read about. He returned with a new mission and a book titled, I've Been to Heaven. This is a story that will touch both your mind and your heart. Enjoy the podcast! Preview: The Viking Age (750-1100 AD) saw Norse raiders transform into farmers. The Great Heathen Army arrived around 865 as mobile war bands. King Alfred the Great eventually achieved a stalemate with the Norse leader Guthrum. This led to an astonishing agreement (c. 878-880) establishing the Danelaw, giving the Norse legal control over vast areas like East Anglia and Yorkshire, confirmed by a linguistic imprint.
In 2014, the world's second largest coal consumer made a bold promise: to increase its solar capacity from three gigawatts to 100 gigawatts in just eight years. Many people called it overly ambitious, but energy expert Kanika Chawla saw the opportunity of a lifetime. She tells the story of how India became a solar powerhouse, turning an expensive dream into an economic reality — and creating a model for other countries to follow suit.Interested in learning more about upcoming TED events? Jesus meets a woman at a well; this event gets right to the point. Our lives are much more than what we see physically, and the real existential threat is not to our earthly lives, but to our eternal souls. So critical is this truth that Jesus brings up what the woman would not say. "Go, call your husband, and come here." What unfolded next led the woman to the spiritual. "The woman *said to Him, "Sir, I perceive that You are a prophet." Verse 19 of John 4. The point of this conversation:"Jesus *said to her, "Woman, believe Me, an hour is coming when neither in this mountain, nor in Jerusalem, shall you worship the Father. 22 "You worship that which you do not know; we worship that which we know, for salvation is from the Jews. 23 "But an hour is coming, and now is, when the true worshipers shall worship the Father in spirit and truth; for such people the Father seeks to be His worshipers. 24 "God is spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth." John 4:17-20Our So What?Praying for the physical is part of the call we have, but as we mature in our communion with Almighty God, our concerns will move our focus from the physical to the spiritual."What a man is on his knees before God, that he is and nothing more." Plans change; that might be a theme of this podcast, Jesus' conversations with people in the book of John. We want to explore possible applications. Today, being sincere is an import from Jesus and His conversation with the woman at the well in Samaria. When she answered, "I have no husband," she was not honest with Jesus. His answer, "you have well said" in the passage did several things, but for her it was shown, Jesus was the one with the answers, and for us it illustrates, we are not only honest with God. For a prayer life which glorifies God, and satisfies our souls, our sincerity with Him is our…Our So What?As we desire honesty from one another in conversation, God desires truth in our close communion with Him. (Even though we know He knows)True communion is sincere communion."What a man is on his knees before God, that he is and nothing more." 9/17/25 - We unravel the extraordinary story of Servant of God Wanda Boniszewska (1907–2003), a Polish nun of the Congregation of the Sisters of the Angels, who offered her life as a mystical victim soul for the conversion of sinners and the sanctification of priests. Bearing the hidden wounds of Christ's Passion and enduring suffering under communist persecution, Wanda's life reveals the power of redemptive suffering united with Christ. In this video, we explore her hidden mystical experiences, her diary, her mission of intercession, and her cause for canonization, inviting the faithful to rediscover the beauty of holiness in silence, sacrifice, and total surrender to God's will.
We begin today with a prayer for our brothers and sisters in Russia and Ukraine. Most of all, a worldwide revival might even start there, in the midst of turmoil. The conversation in John 4 is as astonishing as our prayers. To the woman, a Jew talking to a Samaritan woman was unthinkable. The holy God of the universe initiating communion with us is just as inconceivable. Yet He does:Moses sees the burning bush; the Hebrews tell us He has spoken in various and sundry ways. At one point, all I knew of the Bible was Romans 6:23, from a billboard.Hebrews also tells us that now He is speaking to us through His son. "in these last days has spoken to us in His Son, whom He appointed heir of all things, through whom also He made the world. 3 And He is the radiance of His glory and the exact representation of His nature, and upholds all things by the word of His power. When He had made purification of sins, He sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high; 4 having become as much better than the angels, as He has inherited a more excellent name than they." Hebrews 1:2-4And as Jesus is turning the woman from water to eternal life, He tells us in this passage: "…made purification of sins…" Eternity is His message. Our So What?We ask this question: Knowing that the spiritual is so much more critical than the physical. How might that change the content of our prayers? "What a man is on his knees before God, that he is and nothing more." In today's Cloud Wars Minute, I discuss Oracle's amazing Q1 results.Highlights00:17 — Oracle yesterday released its fiscal Q1 results for the quarter ended August 31. And while its revenue figures for those three months were nice, the killer here was its RPO: remaining performance obligation. Oracle reported remaining performance obligation up 359% to $455 billion.01:24 — Microsoft's cloud revenue is almost seven times bigger than Oracle's. Who's winning the most business out into the future? Several weeks ago, Microsoft reported its RPO was up 37% to an astonishing $368 billion, the biggest RPO number I had ever seen. Several weeks later, we see Oracle blow that away. It's got an RPO nest egg out there that is 25% bigger than Microsoft's.02:35 — Now, Oracle CEO Safra Catz, in perhaps the understatement of the year, said, "Oracle is off to a brilliant start in FY26." My point there is, I've just never seen anything like this. Astonishing. And we can point to the OpenAI deal that's due to start in a few years, where OpenAI has contracted with Oracle to pay Oracle $30 billion a year for Oracle Cloud Infrastructure.03:09 — Catz referenced a number of gigantic contracts that Oracle has signed, and they'll be talking about more soon. Catz did take the unusual step of projecting future revenue for Oracle Cloud Infrastructure — OCI — and its growth over the next five years, including the current year we're in. And I want to emphasize: These numbers don't include Oracle's cloud applications business.03:50 — So, for this year — FY26, ending May 31, 2026 — OCI revenue will grow 77% to $18 billion. Then next year, up 44% to $32 billion. Then it's going to take a spectacular leap — up 128% to $73 billion. I believe that's when the OpenAI revenue starts to kick in. Then 56% to $114 billion for fiscal '29. Fiscal '30, up 26% to $144 billion. Again, I've never seen any numbers like this.05:06 — It's a very different approach Oracle has taken. These numbers show just an astonishing future for Oracle, and I think it's fair to say too that these results from Oracle — and the indication of its future success — have definitely, completely rattled — turned upside down — the balance of power in the Cloud Wars. Oracle is the hottest hyperscaler in the world now, by far and often. Visit Cloud Wars for more.

1. Kingmaker: Pamela Harriman's Astonishing Life of Power, Seduction, and Intrigue by Sonia Purnell chronicles the extraordinary life of Pamela Digby, later Pamela Harriman, a woman who masterfully leveraged her personal connections and keen intellect to become a significant, albeit often behind-the-scenes, figure in 20th-century politics. Born into an aristocratic but cash-strapped family in rural Dorset in 1920, Pamela Digby received a limited education but possessed a sharp mind. Her desire to escape her constrained upbringing led her to an impetuous marriage with Randolph Churchill, Winston Churchill's son, in September 1939. Despite warnings about Randolph's philandering and abusive nature, she saw the marriage as a doorway to an exciting lifestyle and a way to avoid returning to Dorset. During World War II, as her marriage to Randolph deteriorated, Pamela forged a close bond with Winston Churchill. She quickly became Churchill's secret weapon, joining his inner circle, "Padlock," and gathering crucial intelligence from influential Americans. Her most notable liaison was with Averell Harriman, the 49-year-old in charge of Lend-Lease, whom she successfully "enlisted to the British cause" and "bewitched" with her charm and strategic "mating dance". She also influenced figures like CBS star Ed Murrow, feeding him information to bolster British support in American broadcasts. Her wartime experiences, including giving birth during a Blitz air raid, deeply shaped her perspective. After the war, Pamela continued to cultivate influential relationships, including with Gianni Agnelli of Fiat, whom she helped gain acceptance in Washington. She later moved to America, marrying producer Leland Hayward in the late 1950s. While in the US, she was a close friend of President John F. Kennedy, whose assassination deeply affected her. Following Leland Hayward's death, which left her financially depleted, Pamela re-encountered and married Averell Harriman. This marriage marked her full immersion into American politics. She transformed their Washington D.C. home into a hub for Democrats, making Harriman feel like a king and advancing her own influence. She was an early advocate for women's political involvement, pushing beyond the traditional role of a political hostess to focus on policy and candidates. Pamela became a crucial mentor to Bill Clinton after his 1980 gubernatorial loss, restoring his self-belief and providing strategic guidance, including advice on television appearances. Her efforts were instrumental in shaping the Democratic party and contributing to its successes, including Clinton's 1992 presidential victory. As a reward, President Clinton appointed her Ambassador to Paris, a role she embraced despite her lack of formal diplomatic training. In this position, she played a decisive role in strengthening Franco-American relations and bringing a "moral compass" to the Bosnia crisis, drawing on her own wartime experiences to urge intervention. Pamela Harrimandied in 1997 from a brain hemorrhage, with Bill Clinton delivering an emotional eulogy, acknowledging her indispensable role in his political journey and her significant contributions to the 20th century. 1827 FOREIGN OFFICE AND DOWNING STREET

One of the best-liked MPs in Westminster, Chris Bryant has led an incident-packed life as the title of his new autobiography A Life And A Half proves. In a frank, astonishing, sometimes dark but also very funny interview he explains how he went from a painful childhood to becoming an Anglican priest to winning a very traditional South Wales seat as an out gay man. From early encounters with Boris Johnson to bizarre stories in Brussels, it's one of the most remarkable interviews we've done. “My mum looked after Shirley Bassey's wigs, which may explain my sexuality,” he tells Seth Thévoz and Marie le Conte. • Don't forget you can watch full video on Spotify.
