#938 What does it take to transform a small-town photography business into a multi-six-figure brand and coaching empire? In this episode hosted by Kirsten Tyrrel, Brooklyn Grotte shares her journey from hustling $200 photo shoots to building a luxury portrait studio and thriving coaching business. She opens up about going $20K into debt to launch her studio just before the pandemic hit, how she shifted to premium packages with full-service experiences, and why Meta ads became the game-changer that scaled both her photography and coaching programs. Brooklyn also dives into her approach to branding, client experience, and building offers that actually sell — whether you're a creative or a coach, this conversation will show you how to simplify, uplevel, and grow! (Original Air Date - 10/6/25) What we discuss with Brooklyn: + Starting out in photography + Going $20K into debt + Pandemic studio shutdown + Transition to luxury portraiture + Raising prices and packaging + Adding client closet + styling + Using Meta ads for growth + Scaling to six figures + Coaching other photographers + Building a brand + personal identity Thank you, Brooklyn! Hello Hillside! Yes, it's Saturday which means our day to gather as the family of God is just around the corner. Tomorrow's 10:00 AM service will be special (but aren't they all?). Looking forward to being together for musical praise, church updates, a one verse sermon from James (though don't let that fool ya, 'cuz there's a lot to that one verse), and more besides. Why not call someone you've haven't seen for a while and invite them to join you for the service? Then why not take them out to coffee and blueberry muffins afterwards? After all, we're a family, and families drink coffee and eat muffins together. Can't wait to see you!Come worship with Hillside Covenant Church LIVE at 10:00 AM both online and in person as Dan Seitz teaches from James 1:18.This week's sermon notes are available at: https://u.pcloud.link/publink/show?code=XZ6UVA5Zwys8JUmhR7BzcB5EwPbA9jmNqAnyIf you are new to Hillside and are looking for ways to get connected and build community, visit our website: https://www.hillsidecovenant.org/ We welcome you to Hillside and are so glad you joined us today! To give in support of Hillside Covenant and its ministries follow this link: https://hillsidecovenant.churchcenter.com/givingThe full service from Hillside Covenant Church, Sunday, June 7, 2026.

When we are born we are born into a race that whether we like it or not we are running. As we grow older we realize that the race is not as easy as we thought it would be. The apostle Paul encouraged us to run in such a way that we would win. Yes, we know there can only be one winner but run as if we are that winner. If we don't we will give up and coast through life and miss out on a life that God wanted us to have that would not only be amazing but life changing for others.
Dear Hillside: Recently, I was reading about the thousands of pioneers who crossed the United States in wagon trains during the mid-nineteenth century. Think about what they endured: blizzards, grizzly bears, and hostility from locals unhappy with the intrusion. And think of how few Peets Coffees there were along the way. This puts everything in perspective for me.Of course, they made that harrowing journey to reach a better homeland. That is a perfect picture of the Christian life. As followers of Jesus, we too are overlanders. But instead of traveling west, we are journeying toward the new creation--this earth renewed and restored, with the grizzlies so tame we can scratch their bellies.Did you know that many pioneers refused to travel on Sundays? Some wagon trains even split over the issue; the hasty pressed ahead, while the Sabbath-keepers stopped for worship and rest. Interestingly, historical accounts show that the overlanders who rested on Sunday routinely caught up with those who pushed through without a break. In addition to being a command from our loving God, resting and worshiping on Sundays refreshes us for the tasks ahead. So, fellow pioneers--those 'seeking a homeland' in the new creation (Hebrews 11:14)--I invite you to park your wagons, unhitch your horses, and celebrate the Sabbath by coming to church. All your fellow overlanders will be there to greet you, shake your hand, and share stories of the trail (blizzards and bears) from the week before. Dear Hillside: Here's a quick quiz. I'm going to name a famous forest, and you reply with the story it's from. Warning: They get more challenging as they go. Ready? No Googling. 1. Sherwood Forest 2. James 1:22 says, “Be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves.”But what does that actually mean for Christians today? In this sermon, Kian Ameli challenges the modern church to confront the danger of a domesticated faith: a faith that hears God's Word but does not act on it. Using the story of the Great Blondin and the image of the mirror in James 1, this message explores the gap between believing in Jesus and actually following Him.This sermon also looks at Titus 2 and the truth that grace does not produce passivity. Grace trains us to live self-controlled, upright, and godly lives, and Christ redeems a people who are zealous for good deeds. This is a message about Christian discipleship, obedience, faith and works, spiritual formation, and what it means to let the Word of God become embodied in everyday life. The question is not just: Do you believe? The question is: Do you believe enough to act?Come worship with Hillside Covenant Church LIVE at 10:00 AM both online and in person as Kian Ameli teaches from James 1:22-25.This week's sermon notes are available at: https://u.pcloud.link/publink/show?code=XZ0H2U5ZHFmVzh7vCympMJoFK5LYz5H050xXIf you are new to Hillside and are looking for ways to get connected and build community, visit our website: https://www.hillsidecovenant.org/ We welcome you to Hillside and are so glad you joined us today! To give in support of Hillside Covenant and its ministries follow this link: https://hillsidecovenant.churchcenter.com/givingThe full service from Hillside Covenant Church, Sunday, May 17, 2026.

Rex is a fourth-generation Celina native whose great-grandfather homesteaded 160 acres in 1887. Over the last four decades he's brokered billions in DFW land deals - including the $130M public-private partnership that brought the Cowboys to Frisco - while quietly running a 4-broker shop out of his hometown. The heart of man is desperately wicked and who can save it? Only God can. When God gives us a new heart everything about us should change. Our behavior, our speech, our attitudes, the list is endless. Why does everything change? Because out of our heart flows the issues of life. If we want to lead a life that is successful and pleasing to God then we must deal with the issues of our heart. When we do that we begin to walk in the peace, hope, and love that He said we could.

Dear Hillside: I invite you to join your church family (new members and old) for the worship service tomorrow at 10:00 AM. Remember, tomorrow we have one 10:00 AM service (We're now in one service mode until fall when we'll kick it back to two). Friends, let's never forget the priority of worship in our lives as children of God and individual “stones” of his new “temple.” If we've come to view the worship service as mainly about us, let's remind ourselves and our kids that the living God is the audience. Let's remember as well that he's also an “actor” in the event who “acts” upon us through every element (singing, considering the announcements, giving, listening to the word). Every worship service is an opportunity to celebrate him and be changed by him. Looking forward to seeing you for church and the Second Sunday celebration immediately afterwards.Come worship with Hillside Covenant Church LIVE at 10:00 AM both online and in person as Dan Seitz teaches from James 1:19-21.This week's sermon notes are available at: https://u.pcloud.link/publink/show?code=XZneEO5ZqvTO2Gj1elXUMybq0zbBUzSJygI7If you are new to Hillside and are looking for ways to get connected and build community, visit our website: https://www.hillsidecovenant.org/ We welcome you to Hillside and are so glad you joined us today! To give in support of Hillside Covenant and its ministries follow this link: https://hillsidecovenant.churchcenter.com/givingThe full service from Hillside Covenant Church, Sunday, May 10, 2026.

Matt and Jordan see if Netflix’s massive rom-com hit People We Meet on Vacation (starring "generational talent" Emily Bader) lives up to its 50-million-stream hype. Does the film successfully invert the When Harry Met Sally formula, or is it just a beautiful travelogue hampered by a "charisma vacuum"? Later, Jordan recommends an under-seen 2023 indie mafia drama, and Matt invites us to fall in love with a 1963 French New Wave short. We cannot live a life that is pleasing to God without the fear of the Lord. We cannot walk and live in wisdom without walking in the fear of the Lord. The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom. Fear, meaning honor, respect, reverence, not afraid that you cannot please Him and therefore you will receive His wrath. It is fear of the Lord in the fact that His awesomeness and majesty are so amazing and powerful that the only response is to fall down on your face in humility and worship Him. Everything in this world or any other pale in comparison to Him!

God's mercy, kindness, love, and holiness are attributes that the world around us is shocked by. They want it but cannot receive it because it too hard for them to belief that He is who He really says He is. In a world of dishonesty, selfishness, and pride, God comes in and turns all that on it's head and for most of the world it's too hard to grasp. But when we were lost and undone without Him He came and loved us into an intimate and powerful relationship with Him. God is the one who does all that and more!
Hillside, it's Friday at 2:00 PM and I just hit “Send” on an email with my message attached to Jeriah and Laura, two of my highly esteemed staff teammates, without whom, Sunday at Hillside wouldn't be what it is. I'm breathing a sign of relief to be done and enjoying a cup of coffee to celebrate. What a thrill to simmer in James 1:12-15, study it in the original language, research what others have said about it, consider how it fits into the larger picture of James, and then into the larger panorama of the Bible. I learned something significant in my study, prayer, and wrestling this week, and I think when you come to church tomorrow at either 9:00 or 10:45, you'll learn something significant too. It will be something fundamental about life. Something we really can't not know and still move forward into the wholeness Pastor James is so eager for us to move into as we “Just Do The Word.” As excited as I am to share this sermon, I'm more excited to see you and to have everyone else see you. That's because you matter to Hillside: your gifts, your history, your experiences, your wisdom, your voice, and the love God has uniquely shaped YOU to give to your church family. Have a great Saturday and see you tomorrow for our gathering in the presence of the Lord. Who knows who will visit, what will happen, or what new work our loving God will do among us? But it's pretty exciting to think about the possibilities. Come worship with Hillside Covenant Church LIVE at 9:00 & 10:45 AM both online and in person as Dan Seitz teaches from James 1:12-15. The Holy Spirit is part of the Trinity. The power of the Godhead. When the Holy Spirit came over 2000 years ago on the day a Pentecost, He came to empower us to be the followers of Jesus that live with power and strength in the world, impacting and changing the world in the process. He is still moving in the world today. Amidst all the chaos and craziness He still moves. Today we talk about the power of the Holy Spirit to convict us of sin and of righteousness.

Join us as we celebrate 10 Years of God's faithfulness to our church. From humble beginnings to a decade of ministry, God has been faithful every step of the way. In Acts 1, we see how the early church gathered, prayed, stepped forward in faith, and how we are called to do the same today. His voice brought clarity, comfort, and new life. Jesus is personal—He calls you by name in your uncertainty. His trusted voice brings hope and steadies racing hearts. This Easter at Willow, encounter the personal love of Jesus Christ calling you by name.
