Guest post by Ger Corbett, CEO of Sandyford Business District, discusses optimising sustainable initiatives in the area, through local and European decarbonisation projects When I assumed the role of CEO of Sandyford Business District (SBD) in 2022, I recognised the immense opportunity to implement impactful sustainability and decarbonisation initiatives within Ireland's largest business improvement district. With over 1,000 businesses and 26,000 workers within the district, it became clear that our actions here could serve as a positive model for change for businesses and communities nationwide. Core to my ambitions is that as a key influencer in the area, SBD would not only address climate challenges, and enhance mobility but that we also ensure that SBD thrived as both a workplace and a residential area, during my tenure and beyond. Why we need more sustainability and decarbonisation Putting flesh on the bones of this commitment, the team at Sandyford launched a Project Green initiative and Green Charter for businesses several years ago. Since then, we have doubled down on our work and cultivated partnerships with local authorities and we have worked hard to secure support from various EU funding streams to enact positive change across the many facets that make up our district. We are also actively seeking businesses within the District to sign up the Green Charter and commit to some positive changes. Transitioning to a circular economy Last year, SBD was chosen to participate in the procurement buyers group for the EU-funded CircularPSP project. This project aims to support businesses in implementing innovative circular economy solutions across Europe. With a total investment of €5.64 million in research and development, our involvement in this initiative marks a significant achievement for us. We are currently receiving submissions from suppliers, who offer solutions to the complex challenges of transitioning to a circular economy. The candidate business will utilise AI, taxonomies, missions, workflows, and upskilling technologies to help to effect change. This project epitomises our commitment to bringing sustainable change to Sandyford, as we aim to establish the district as a resource-efficient hub for economic activity and residential living. SBD Project Manager, Fernanda Pinto Godoy, and I are proud to collaborate with experienced public procurers from five EU member states, the UK, and Turkey, who share our vision for a green circular transition in their respective cities and local areas. Delivering a climate resilient business park for the area Through the EU-led IB-Green project, SBD is collaborating with eleven partners from six countries in Northwest Europe, where we are focusing on facilitating climate adaptation measures specifically within industrial and business parks. With a total budget of €8.9 million, the project aims to reduce heat stress in these areas through the development of green and blue infrastructure. Our work on this project is best understood through the manifestation of the Sandyford Green Infrastructure Project, a collaboration between the district and Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council. This project aims to transfer 0.8 hectares of land into a new Civic Park, which will be strategically located at the junction of Corrig Road and Carmanhall Road. Once completed, the Park will provide a place for residents, employees and visitors to linger and dwell in a biodiverse area which will serve as a beacon of sustainability, promoting healthier living and working conditions in the area. Fostering shared modes of transportation While life as a resident or employee in the district is being continuously enhanced, we are also keen to facilitate ease of mobility around the area. SBD recently announced a partnership with Trinity College Dublin which will trial a new smart mobility hub project over the next 18 months. The TRACT (TRAnsport Behaviour Change Trials) Project will include a TRACT Mobility...

Join us this Sunday at 10:00 AM in Civic Park for Week 7 of "The Flourishing Trees," our fall series from the Sermon on the Mount. In Matthew 5:38-48, Jesus utters some of his most famous words. When he says, "turn the other cheek," can he possibly mean "turn the other cheek?" And if he does, how could this command possibly lead to our flourishing? You'll have to come to the park to find out. Friends, the service is going to be rich and the weather's going to be beautiful. Best of all, there will be baptisms! Don't deny your church family the joy of your presence! See you Sunday and say a prayer for Hillside before you arrive. God is moving but we need his power and protection more than ever! This week's guest is Andrés Andujar, CEO of the Hemisfair Park Area Redevelopment Corporation, commonly known as HPARC, a position he has held since 2011. Andujar, an architectural engineer, is the driving force behind the community vision for the redevelopment of the nearly 100-acre downtown space that was home 55 years ago to HemisFair ‘68, the city's world's fair staged over six months in 1968. The park was underutilized for decades until the City of San Antonio under Mayor Julian Castro created HPARC. The district's incremental development was guided by a Vision and Guiding Principles developed during Mayor Phil Hardberger's term, and used by Mayor Julín Castro when he came into office in 2009 and declared the next 10 years the Decade of Downtown. Development of the park has been slow and incremental, but a major milestone will be realized on Sept. 30 when Andujar, Mayor Ron Nirenberger and City Manager Erik Walsh and others cut the ribbon on the long-awaited Civic Park, which will open by hosting the 40th annual Jazz'SAlive festival.

Spiegeltent Newcastle has thrown open the doors in Civic Park for their new show, The Party. And we're here to tell you, it's the wildest ride we've been on in a long time. From the opening (reverse) strip tease to the naughty shower scene and a sock act that would even make the Red Hot Chili Peppers blush, the creators of the show, Strut and Fret, have taken the risqué to new levels here. We're joined by director Scott Maidment and show-stopping aerialist & foot juggler Emma Philips from The Party.

A beautiful summer evening on the patio last night. Today I mused about how beauty - the concept of paradise - uplifts us and is an antidote to the aspects of life that can be crushing. I talk about the architectural control in Santa Fe making it a beautiful city and how the Capitol building and Civic Park in Denver follow the same principles. I also talk about marketing and advertising, and how those influence the subconscious, too. Support the show (http://paypal.me/jeffekennedy)
View Transcript Youth Sunday Imagine a group of middle schoolers walking around Civic Park, carrying granola bars, water, and crackers to hand out to people who spend their days there. Claire, Roxy Freeman, Olivia Hill, and I were those middle schoolers, and we were in the midst of enjoying our first Denver Dive. While walking around, we spotted a fountain to rest and put our feet into so we could cool off from the extraordinary heat. Before we could even take off our shoes, we saw a man and woman who appeared to be homeless, dancing in the fountain. They saw us, four confused-looking middle schoolers, and approached. It turns out that the woman was a cancer survivor, and because of all of the medical bills, she and her husband no longer had a place to live. But they didn’t seem to be worried—they even seemed confident that everything would work out in the end. They chose to enjoy life despite their situation. Their energy inspired the four of us and our three leaders. Soon we were all dancing care-free in the fountain together. It’s times like these when I think of how the smallest of gestures can help change someone’s entire perspective. Even though we barely knew these people, they completely changed our outlook on homelessness as wide-eyed sixth graders, and now we think of the awesome things God gives us: great people who will dance in fountains with us, our health, and even just our day-to-day lives. We have the opportunity to make the best out of God’s greatest gift: life.
