Hello Hillside! Yes, it's Saturday which means our day to gather as the family of God is just around the corner. Tomorrow's 10:00 AM service will be special (but aren't they all?). Looking forward to being together for musical praise, church updates, a one verse sermon from James (though don't let that fool ya, 'cuz there's a lot to that one verse), and more besides. Why not call someone you've haven't seen for a while and invite them to join you for the service? Then why not take them out to coffee and blueberry muffins afterwards? After all, we're a family, and families drink coffee and eat muffins together. Can't wait to see you!Come worship with Hillside Covenant Church LIVE at 10:00 AM both online and in person as Dan Seitz teaches from James 1:18.This week's sermon notes are available at: https://u.pcloud.link/publink/show?code=XZ6UVA5Zwys8JUmhR7BzcB5EwPbA9jmNqAnyIf you are new to Hillside and are looking for ways to get connected and build community, visit our website: https://www.hillsidecovenant.org/ We welcome you to Hillside and are so glad you joined us today! To give in support of Hillside Covenant and its ministries follow this link: https://hillsidecovenant.churchcenter.com/givingThe sermon from Hillside Covenant Church, Sunday, June 7, 2026.

Dear Hillside: Recently, I was reading about the thousands of pioneers who crossed the United States in wagon trains during the mid-nineteenth century. Think about what they endured: blizzards, grizzly bears, and hostility from locals unhappy with the intrusion. And think of how few Peets Coffees there were along the way. This puts everything in perspective for me.Of course, they made that harrowing journey to reach a better homeland. That is a perfect picture of the Christian life. As followers of Jesus, we too are overlanders. But instead of traveling west, we are journeying toward the new creation--this earth renewed and restored, with the grizzlies so tame we can scratch their bellies.Did you know that many pioneers refused to travel on Sundays? Some wagon trains even split over the issue; the hasty pressed ahead, while the Sabbath-keepers stopped for worship and rest. Interestingly, historical accounts show that the overlanders who rested on Sunday routinely caught up with those who pushed through without a break. In addition to being a command from our loving God, resting and worshiping on Sundays refreshes us for the tasks ahead. So, fellow pioneers--those 'seeking a homeland' in the new creation (Hebrews 11:14)--I invite you to park your wagons, unhitch your horses, and celebrate the Sabbath by coming to church. All your fellow overlanders will be there to greet you, shake your hand, and share stories of the trail (blizzards and bears) from the week before. Dear Hillside: Here's a quick quiz. I'm going to name a famous forest, and you reply with the story it's from. Warning: They get more challenging as they go. Ready? No Googling. 1. Sherwood Forest 2. Mirkwood Forest 3. The Enchanted Forest 4. The Forest of Arden. Did you get any right? If you got number four, I'm impressed. I'm doubly impressed if you got number four and you weren't an English major. What's this “forest talk” have to do with James 1:26-27. James 1:22 says, “Be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves.”But what does that actually mean for Christians today? In this sermon, Kian Ameli challenges the modern church to confront the danger of a domesticated faith: a faith that hears God's Word but does not act on it. Using the story of the Great Blondin and the image of the mirror in James 1, this message explores the gap between believing in Jesus and actually following Him.This sermon also looks at Titus 2 and the truth that grace does not produce passivity. Grace trains us to live self-controlled, upright, and godly lives, and Christ redeems a people who are zealous for good deeds. This is a message about Christian discipleship, obedience, faith and works, spiritual formation, and what it means to let the Word of God become embodied in everyday life. The question is not just: Do you believe? The question is: Do you believe enough to act?Come worship with Hillside Covenant Church LIVE at 10:00 AM both online and in person as Kian Ameli teaches from James 1:22-25.This week's sermon notes are available at: https://u.pcloud.link/publink/show?code=XZ0H2U5ZHFmVzh7vCympMJoFK5LYz5H050xXIf you are new to Hillside and are looking for ways to get connected and build community, visit our website: https://www.hillsidecovenant.org/ We welcome you to Hillside and are so glad you joined us today! To give in support of Hillside Covenant and its ministries follow this link: https://hillsidecovenant.churchcenter.com/givingThe sermon from Hillside Covenant Church, Sunday, May 17, 2026.

Dear Hillside: I invite you to join your church family (new members and old) for the worship service tomorrow at 10:00 AM. Remember, tomorrow we have one 10:00 AM service (We're now in one service mode until fall when we'll kick it back to two). Friends, let's never forget the priority of worship in our lives as children of God and individual “stones” of his new “temple.” If we've come to view the worship service as mainly about us, let's remind ourselves and our kids that the living God is the audience. Let's remember as well that he's also an “actor” in the event who “acts” upon us through every element (singing, considering the announcements, giving, listening to the word). Every worship service is an opportunity to celebrate him and be changed by him. Looking forward to seeing you for church and the Second Sunday celebration immediately afterwards.Come worship with Hillside Covenant Church LIVE at 10:00 AM both online and in person as Dan Seitz teaches from James 1:19-21.This week's sermon notes are available at: https://u.pcloud.link/publink/show?code=XZneEO5ZqvTO2Gj1elXUMybq0zbBUzSJygI7If you are new to Hillside and are looking for ways to get connected and build community, visit our website: https://www.hillsidecovenant.org/ We welcome you to Hillside and are so glad you joined us today! To give in support of Hillside Covenant and its ministries follow this link: https://hillsidecovenant.churchcenter.com/givingThe sermon from Hillside Covenant Church, Sunday, May 10, 2026.

Hillside, it's Friday at 2:00 PM and I just hit “Send” on an email with my message attached to Jeriah and Laura, two of my highly esteemed staff teammates, without whom, Sunday at Hillside wouldn't be what it is. I'm breathing a sign of relief to be done and enjoying a cup of coffee to celebrate. What a thrill to simmer in James 1:12-15, study it in the original language, research what others have said about it, consider how it fits into the larger picture of James, and then into the larger panorama of the Bible. I learned something significant in my study, prayer, and wrestling this week, and I think when you come to church tomorrow at either 9:00 or 10:45, you'll learn something significant too. It will be something fundamental about life. Something we really can't not know and still move forward into the wholeness Pastor James is so eager for us to move into as we “Just Do The Word.” As excited as I am to share this sermon, I'm more excited to see you and to have everyone else see you. That's because you matter to Hillside: your gifts, your history, your experiences, your wisdom, your voice, and the love God has uniquely shaped YOU to give to your church family. Have a great Saturday and see you tomorrow for our gathering in the presence of the Lord. Who knows who will visit, what will happen, or what new work our loving God will do among us? But it's pretty exciting to think about the possibilities. Come worship with Hillside Covenant Church LIVE at 9:00 & 10:45 AM both online and in person as Dan Seitz teaches from James 1:12-15. Dear Hillside: It's a rainy spring Saturday which means we all have an excuse to forget washing the car and mowing the lawn. Instead, we can brew a cup of coffee, curl up under a weighted blanket, and crack open that spy thriller that's been calling out to us. After some escapist reading, we can shuffle to the kitchen and make cheese sandwiches and tomato soup for the household. Why not eat in front of the T.V.? What's better than enjoying an out of town baseball game over a grilled sandwich with the cheese spilling over the crust? Here's another great rainy day activity: reading the Letter of James. Speaking of James, we're launching a new message series from that “spark plug” of a book that will take us through the summer. If the Book of James were a high school teacher, it would be your beloved track coach. The one who sometimes hollered at you to run faster but only because he loved you and saw your extraordinary athletic potential.Speaking of running, the series name plays on the slogan of a famous company that made a bundle telling us to get out there and “just do it.” James wants us to “just do” something too but you'll have to come to church to find out just what it is. God's Spirit is blowing fresh wind at Hillside. I can feel the “swoosh” of that brisk air now.So, join us tomorrow at either 9:00 or 10:45 and be part of this new chapter in the story God continues to write at Hillside, this church we all love and have given of ourselves for. And don't forget the Sundae party that will be happening after the second service--our first, “Second Sunday” as we're calling these monthly shindigs! Can't wait to see you and any friend you think to bring with you.Come worship with Hillside Covenant Church LIVE at 9:00 & 10:45 AM both online and in person as Dan Seitz teaches from James 1:1-4.This week's sermon notes are available at: https://u.pcloud.link/publink/show?code=XZNyP65ZOufbPMlBYFkEUjnSXte715ALrE1kIf you are new to Hillside and are looking for ways to get connected and build community, visit our website: https://www.hillsidecovenant.org/ We welcome you to Hillside and are so glad you joined us today! To give in support of Hillside Covenant and its ministries follow this link: https://hillsidecovenant.churchcenter.com/givingThe sermon from Hillside Covenant Church, Sunday, April 12, 2026.

Dear Hillside: Tomorrow is Easter, the biggest day of our year as followers of King Jesus. Without a doubt, we will have new people among us, maybe a lot of new people. These guests will be present because they're hungry for something. Connection with others? Spiritual grounding? Hope for the future? Some combination of three? Who knows? But they will have come because they're aware of a need. Let's decide now that we will join in the Easter celebration tomorrow with eyes wide open for new people who've come to our house. Let's greet anyone we don't know, learn names, and invite the person or family back the next week.Last Sunday during Nick B's baptism, he shared how God used the love and hospitality of Hillsiders to convince him of the gospel. Think about it. One reason Nick is a baptized and Spirit-filled agent of King Jesus today is that Jeriah and Andi invited him to lunches and dinners. Yes, Jeriah and Andi's invitation was just one of many acts of Hillside love, but God used it powerfully and now look at the result. So, let's be who we are tomorrow and introduce ourselves to everyone God sends our way for the celebration. Finally, don't forget about Michele's epic Easter breakfast between 8:00 and 11:00. I'm gonna be there at 8:00 and I (Dan) hope to see you other early birds. Obviously, if you plan to attend the 10:45 service, you'll have to go to breakfast beforehand as the kitchen closes at 11:00. Happy Saturday Hillside! What do you dream for Hillside? I'm driven by the dream that someday Hillside will truly come into its own as THE CHURCH in the county to join if you want: (1) deep, enduring friendships across the age spectrum, (2) expert biblical teaching and other instruction that equips you to bring a smile to God and make his world more God-like, (3) Children and youth ministries that help you shape your children into strong, joyful, Jesus-loving contributors to the world, ready for the rigors of intimate relationship and professional responsibility, and (4) many opportunities to do the kind of good in the world that pictures Jesus the King and invites others to give their lives to him.Although sometimes the Hillside journey feels like “three steps forward, two steps back”, I know that we're on the way. The reason for my confidence is we're committed to what the King, whom we're celebrating tomorrow on Palm Sunday, has called us to do. And what he's called us to do is to “Make disciples” as we go about our full, complex, and often challenging lives. Simply by joining in the Palm Sunday gathering tomorrow at either 9:00 or 10:45, you will help realize Hillside's fantastic future, this church that the King loves, died for, and leads.Hillside's mission is “Making mature and equipped disciples who shareChrist and serve the world.” Tomorrow's message which I'm excited to share falls along the “Equipped” side of the spectrum, so please come ready to listen, think, and learn! And parents, please wrangle your kids sixth grade and up into the service as the King desires to meet with and shape them as much as the rest of us. God bless you, Hillside, and see you tomorrow!Come worship with Hillside Covenant Church LIVE at 9:00 & 10:45 AM both online and in person as Dan Seitz teaches from John 1:1; John 13:1; John 12:31 & John 20:21-22.This week's sermon notes are available at: https://u.pcloud.link/publink/show?code=XZfMTt5Z9cSE764lVu7MzYy4MC5CRmqT8AuVIf you are new to Hillside and are looking for ways to get connected and build community, visit our website: https://www.hillsidecovenant.org/ We welcome you to Hillside and are so glad you joined us today! To give in support of Hillside Covenant and its ministries follow this link: https://hillsidecovenant.churchcenter.com/givingThe sermon from Hillside Covenant Church, Sunday, March 29, 2026.

Hello My Fellow Hillside Disciples: It's Saturday morning! Did you sleep in? Make pour over coffee? Complete the crossword? Bake scones? I hope the day has been full of activities that refresh you. As you know, we gather as a church family tomorrow morning. For Allison and me, Sunday is the best day of the week 'cuz we get to meet with the King and meet with you, our extended family whom we love. My sermon tomorrow zeroes in on the fifth of Jesus' seven personal conversations recorded in the Gospel of John. I'm looking forward to sharing with you what I believe God shared with me in this tense but fascinating encounter. Two quick reminders: First, we have Dinner of Seven coming up in two weeks on Sunday, March 22 (Thanks Kirsten Stracke for organizing). Please sign-up on the Hillside website today under “Events.” This event is fun and important for our continued church bonding. One reason Hillsiders Steve and Jacqueline Osborn are my special friends today is that we connected at a previous Hillside Dinner for Seven. Second, please consider signing up to join the team putting on the upcoming Mini Bike Fest on Saturday, March 21 (again, under “Events”). This is an important initiative for showing love to our neighbors. Hillside, we have such a great future together. Last Thursday night's youth gathering was buzzing with lots of students, lots of leaders, and lots of love. Earlier in the week our staff returned from a 48 hour planning retreat during which God gave us fresh direction for accomplishing our mission. Bottom line: We have every reason to believe Hillside's future as a School of Christ and Forward Operating Base for ministry is as bright as the sun. Thanks for all you do to make this a church family that makes God smile. Dear Hillside Family: I'm excited about the sermon I've got to share with you tomorrow from John 11. It zeroes in on the fourth of seven personal conversations Jesus, the most interesting man in the world, has with ordinary individuals. We're reliving these private conversations here at the “Hillside School of Discipleship” because they reveal something about Jesus' personal interest in each of us. What I learned this week from Jesus' conversation with Mary shot adrenaline right into my veins. I've prayed God's Spirit would do the same for you as we explore this story together. Hillside, I'm grateful to be on the “mature and equipped” journey with you.
