Hit My Music is an interview podcast that looks at the world of wrestling through the lens of music. Every two weeks, David Kincannon (Podvocacy, Everlasting Minute) sits down with someone from the world of wrestling to get insights into their taste in music, their favorite wrestling entrance themes, and the entrance themes they’ve used throughout their careers.
Hey, there! Welcome back to Hit My Music. I know it's been a while, but I'm back with a brand new episode featuring my conversation with the strongest man in all the land, one half of the AIW Tag Team Champions, none other than Arthur McArthur. Listen in, as we talk about dad's cruisin', the music that moms and sisters made him listen to, and how one goes about finding music that will fit for an old timey strong man. Check out the Patreon. Follow Arthur on Social Media: Twitter Instagram And tweet at Jerry to try and get Arthur's name fixed on IWTV. #StandUpForArthur
Welcome back to Hit My Music. I want to apologize up front for the fact that I sound like Clint from Hershey, PA...I was diagnosed with Covid this week, but I wanted to get the episode out while it was still somewhat topical. This episode represents a bit of a shift in the podcast. There's no guest this week, just me, talking about some different patriotic songs to open wrestling shows. I hope everyone enjoys it.
Thank you for downloading Hit My Music! This week, my guest is El Numero Uno, Ichiban, Number One...Jaden Newman. This young man from Tennesse has experience beyond his years, and we talk about how he started, specifically first theme songs, and how they fit with his initial gimmick. We talk about how a public version of a personal life can influence character, and by extension entrance music. I find that Jaden and I have some common ground in terms of concert going experiences. And we talk about an exciting musical development for Jaden's career. This is a fun episode. Enjoy! Links: Twitter Instagram TeePublic ProWrestlingTees
We're back! This week's episode features my conversation with former Ring of Honor staple, and one of the longest tenured members of the Embassy, Ernie Osiris. This is a fun conversation, and features talk of a lot of different artists, but it's clear that Ernie has his foots firmly planted in hip hop and rap. In addition to being a fun conversation, we talk about some real issues. Specifically, those of Ernie's struggles with addiction, and how music can be a trigger for that. Thanks to Ernie for coming on the show, and thank you for downloading! Links: Ernie Osiris on Twitter
Thanks for downloading episode 14 of Hit My Music. This week's guest is Kevin "The Man" Graham, who I got to know when we were opponents during the Tournament of Champions on The A Show, on CKCC Radio. Kevin was a staple in east coast independents throughout the 2010s, and can now be found on Brain Wreck TV on YouTube. In our conversation, Kevin and I discuss his DJ father's vinyl collection, finding new genres/artists through a sort of reverse engineering, and learning to get past initial impressions of certain types of music. We also discuss trying to find the right theme for your first wrestling match, and the journey Kevin took in that regard, as well as discussions with friends and tag team partners about when it's right to change your music. If you'd like to receive these episodes early, check out my Patreon. Check Kevin out on Twitter. Brain Wreck TV on YouTube
Thanks for downloading Hit My Music! This week's episode is a special episode, as I've gathered four additional wrestling content creators to talk about one of our favorite genres of music, ska. Ed from Pod Van Dam, Chris and Matt from The A Show, and Peter DeLonge from Peter DeLonge Talks on YouTube (links below) have joined me for a really fun discussion. We discuss our favorite ska bands, favorite ska albums, how Christian ska kept the genre alive, what bands are not necessarily our cups of tea, and a whole bunch of other nonsense. We even find out that Ed, unsurprisingly, has never heard of Serpico. There are a handful of really fun and interesting stories centered around ska scenes, and it's just a generally good time. Thank you for listening to Hit My Music! This week, I have the pleasure of speaking with “The Weirdster” Evan Ambrose. He has some interesting taste in music that starts with Don McLean and winds through ska, folk punk, and Italo Disco. As always, we talk about entrance themes, but not just Evan's. We go down a weird rabbit hole dissecting the lyrics to Billy Kidman's theme, “You Can Run”, and Evan name drops Johnny Gargano, who had to break it to Evan that DMX did not do that song. This was a very fun discussion, and you can listen to the end of the episode to hear Evan's new theme song in full. If you'd like to get these episodes early, check out Patreon.com/Jinglemeister Check Evan out at AIW, and on Twitter.
Thank you for downloading Hit My Music! You may have seen this week's guest on AEW programming, or all over promotions that have been affiliated with IWTV during his career. He is the champion of the 1%, Logan Easton Laroux. In my discussion with Logan, we talk about trying to play the drums, uncles with massive cd collections, and Soundcloud rappers. We also discuss the theme songs that he's used throughout multiple phases of his career, including one that sounds suspiciously like a WWF theme from the early 90s. If you'd like to get these episodes early, along with an exclusive curated playlist for each episode, check out my Patreon. Follow Logan on social media: Logan on Twitter Blank on Twitter
Thanks so much for downloading this episode of Hit My Music. My guest this week is none other than the Broadsword of Nazmaldun himself, Hallowicked. He graciously allowed me, the one known as Swinetooth, to interview him about all things music. In our conversation, we talk about the magical properties of music, and those who make it. We talk about music that makes the best soundtrack for chasing down campers, and the post-chase relaxation. We talk about boom boxes being left in the woods of Sleepy Hollow, and the bonus uses of D batteries. We also talk about heavy nonsense, and authoritarian garbage. In the second half of the show, we go through the entrance themes that Hallowicked has used throughout the years, which leads to discussions of theme songs that Eddie Kingston hates, wrestlers who buy a lot of movie soundtracks, and Hallowicked gives his thoughts on the late Larry Sweeney. If you'd like to get these episodes early, along with an exclusive curated playlist for each episode, check out my Patreon. Follow Hallowicked on social media: Twitter YouTube
As always, thanks for listening to Hit My Music. This week, my guest is former ROH wrestler and manager, Shane Hagadorn. Listen in, as we chat about his varied musical history, and discover that we have a lot in common musically. Later, we talk about finding the right song for a character after using a "wrong" song, checking off a bucket list item in the world of wrestling, finding himself and his character, and we trace the entrance themes that Shane has used throughout his career, including a theme that would be created in part by a future colleague of his. Episode 7 was a wild one. In a completely different way, episode 8 is just as wild. My guest this week is The Wrestling Genius, Daniel Makabe. He doesn't have the manic energy of Wes Barkley, but he does have an eclectic taste, and quite a musical journey. Whether it's starting out listening to Aerosmith, starting a Neutral Milk Hotel cover band, or making his own original music in multiple projects, Daniel certainly covers a lot of ground, musically. In this conversation, we talk about a variety of topics, including the CanCon law in Canada, getting bands to play covers they weren't planning to play, and ill fated co-headlining tours...when you were really only there to see the opening act. You can find Daniel all over the internet. Check him and his music out in the following places: Twitter Bandcamp - Griefwalker Bandcamp - Taxa IWTV - The Life Of Daniel Makabe To support the show, and get early access to every episode, please visit my Patreon at http://patreon.com/Jinglemeister
Y'all...you're not ready for this week's episode. If you have a tendency to listen to podcasts at an increased speed, you're probably going to want to fix that this week. My guest this week is Wes Barkley, and if you're familiar with him from the world of independent wrestling, then you know that he is one of the best talkers in the game today. He's also an interesting fan of music. In this conversation, we talk about being introduced to music and...ahem...ways to get music for free by babysitters, and how those babysitters would breakdance to Vanilla Ice. We also go into tangents about bedroom posters, learning to play guitar, Tiger Woods' dad, and a career playing bocce. We also talk about playing mind games, and getting blocked by Dylan Postl. Thanks for downloading! If you'd like to get these episodes early, along with the curated companion playlist, check out my Patreon. Wes Barkley on Twitter Note: We recorded this episode in August, and a lot of things have happened in the lives of the Rip City Shooters since then. Just something to keep in mind.
Welcome back to Hit My Music. This week, my guest is an academic. A man of learning. A man of high standards. Welcome to the show, Dr. Ethan Wilde, Ph.D. Dr. Wilde is primarily associated with the goings on at Camp Leapfrog, where he is currently the Camp Athletic Commissioner. Despite his reputation from Camp Leapfrog, I found that Dr. Wilde was a delight to talk to. He has an extensive personal history with music, and we delve into such topics as where his love of vinyl records comes from, which character from A Song of Ice and Fire Mick Mars reminds him of, poison pills in a road trip playlist, and bench press PR songs. We also talk about his use of a harpsichord concerto as entrance music, but we also talk about his dalliance with Yacht Rock. Thank you for listening, and if you'd like to get these episodes early, as well as a companion playlist, consider signing up for my Patreon. Find Dr. Ethan Wilde on Twitter Camp Leapfrog on IWTV
It's time again for another episode of Hit My Music. This week, my guest is from my neck of the woods. Danger Dean grew up in Colorado, and started his wrestling career here. He recently moved to Washington State, and has been starting to make his name there as well, in addition to occasionally returning to the Denver area to compete. In addition to being a professional wrestler, Danger Dean has a career as a radio personality. He spent a lot of years working for 98.9 FM in Colorado Springs, so I thought he would be a fun guest to have on to talk about music, both in and out of wrestling. And I wasn't wrong. This was a very fun conversation, and we talk about everything from ICP to the golden oldies. We talk about how radio led to his entry into professional wrestling, and how excited he was for his first match to be for a championship. His entrance themes have run a bit of a gamut that leads from Powerman 5000 to Kenny Loggins (sort of), and we even hear some stock music, and there's a very special appearance by a dream guest of this show...or, his guitar, at least. If you'd like to get these episodes early, as well as a companion playlist, consider signing up for my Patreon. This week on Hit My Music, my guest is Sue Jackson. We start off talking about the two cassettes that his mother kept in her car, which formed his musical base. From there we talk about growing up in the early 90s, discovering grunge and hip hop, finding bands with instrumenting instrumentation choices, and the stigma of being a late 90s teen boy who liked boy bands, which evolves into a discussion of favorite *NSync members. In the second half of the show, we talk about the effectiveness of the Ultimate Warrior in bringing kids to wrestling, his different entrance themes, and his dream entrance theme. Along the way we talk about the un-suitability of "A Boy Named Sue" for an entrance, no matter how "obvious" it may seem, using one's trainer's theme in representing them, and double stomps to the back of the head...ouch. Thanks for listening! If you'd like to get these episodes early, you can check out my Patreon. Links: Follow Sue on Twitter. Follow Dr. Magnanimous on Twitter. Check out the Stream of Inspiration
This week on Hit My Music, I am joined by Travis Huckabee. The Golden Grappler takes us through his musical life, from listening to Dr. Demento tapes with his dad to what music had been playing at the Crossfit gym he coaches at the week we recorded this show. Along the way, we talk about Orange Cassidy wanting to see 3OH!3, walking around the 2018 Warped Tour in wrestling trunks, Cowboy Thursday, and learning to flamenco strum the guitar. In the second half of the show, we concentrate on wrestling in music. There's discussion of favorite entrance themes, and what wrestling themes are on his gym playlists. We talk about what makes a good entrance theme. And we also dive into Travis' wrestling entrance themes. We start with the early struggles with his theme songs (if you're familiar with the early portion of his career, you know what I'm talking about). From there, we talk about trying to get a theme song for the Rumblebees, in an effort to ditch the first theme, the trouble with trying to communicate with sound people, and commissioning a custom theme...now with 100% more Nicolas Cage. Thank you for subscribing to the Patreon. I really appreciate your support! Links: Follow Travis on Twitter Follow Travis on Instagram Search Huckabee on IWTV
Thanks for downloading the second episode of Hit My Music. On this week's episode, I sit down with Dan Champion. If you follow Dan on Twitter, than you are probably aware of his deep abiding fandom of Bruce Springsteen, which we definitely talk about. We discuss how he got there, and which of the Boss's songs are his favorites (spoiler...there are a lot.) We also talk about why the nu metal songs of the early 2000s might not work as entrance themes. We follow up on some themes from episode 1. And this podcast, along with his performance at BasketBrawl 2021, may have helped him find his entrance theme song going forward. Links: Follow Dan on Twitter. Welcome to the first official episode of Hit My Music. This episode's guest is none other than Pig Daddy Cool, himself, The Boar. Listen as we chat about growing up listening to pop music, transitioning to a life of listening to no secular music, and then discovering the glory of early Britney Spears. We also discuss the various entrance themes he's used throughout his career, and why Demi Lovato has the perfect song for two large wrestlers to enter to. Links: Follow The Boar on Twitter. Thank you for downloading from the Hit My Music Feed. Tomorrow, the first regular episode of Hit My Music will be released. But first, as an introduction to me as a podcaster, I present an out of context episode of a Movies by Minutes podcast, episode 88 of Everlasting Minute, which was a deep dive into Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory. From the original release: "In minute 88, Mike Teevee is interrupting Willy Wonka, and explains television poorly. Wonka explains how he created Wonkavision…poorly. Also, we realize how much of this scene is lost in translation with today's television technology. Jason explains his version of 4K to David. We briefly discuss video formats, and why formats end up being adopted. Jason makes a Star Trek reference that completely goes over David's head. Wonka gives us another literary quote, and we talk Lewis Carroll's gifts to the literary canon.
