On this week's episode, we're joined by Don McLean, legendary singer songwriter, master storyteller, and the voice behind some of the most enduring songs ever written. Growing up in New York listening to old 78 RPM records, Don developed a love of music that would shape his life. After teaching himself guitar and finding his place in the folk scene, he followed his creative instincts with determination and conviction. Inspired by artists like Buddy Holly and mentored by folk icon Pete Seeger, he built a remarkable career spanning more than six decades. We explore the making of American Pie, the cultural phenomenon that introduced the immortal phrase “the day the music died.” More than fifty years later, the song remains one of popular music's most celebrated works and has been recognised by the Library of Congress, which selected it for preservation in the National Recording Registry for its lasting cultural and historical significance. Don also reflects on protecting his artistic vision, the inspiration behind classics such as “Vincent,” and why he has always prioritised authenticity over commercial success. Along the way, we discuss his admiration for Buddy Holly, the story behind “Killing Me Softly,” his perspective on the changing music industry, and the passion that still draws him back to the stage. The result is an honest and insightful conversation with a songwriter whose music has become part of the soundtrack of generations.Let Christy Take It are proud to bring you Don McLean. If you like our show please Like and subscribe wherever you listen to your podcasts. In this episode, Sandy Kaye sits down with legendary singer-songwriter Don McLean, the voice behind one of the most iconic songs in music history—American Pie.Best known for that timeless anthem, Don's career spans more than five decades, with a remarkable catalogue that includes Vincent, And I Love You So, and many more. But as you'll hear, there's so much more to his story than a single hit.Don takes us back to the turbulent late '60s, where his early career unfolded against a backdrop of political unrest, riots, and social upheaval. Recording his debut album Tapestry in Berkeley during this volatile time, he shares how chaos, uncertainty, and personal struggle shaped his songwriting and his determination to succeed. With no “Plan B,” Don reveals the fierce focus that drove him forward—despite financial hardship, industry setbacks, and the pressures of carving out a life in music. He also reflects on the deep influence of his family, particularly his mother, whose belief in him helped fuel his dreams.Of course, we dive into American Pie—the song that changed everything. Don shares the personal and historical influences behind its unforgettable lyrics, explaining how the energy and turmoil of the era found their way into the song. While he knew it was special, nothing could have prepared him for the global phenomenon it became. But success came at a cost. Don opens up about the challenges of life after American Pie, including the intense pressure to replicate that success and the personal toll it took. In a refreshingly honest moment, he discusses his breakdown in the mid-'70s and how stepping back from the spotlight helped him regain control of his life and career.Rather than chasing fame, Don chose independence—continuing to tour, record, and create music on his own terms. That decision has sustained a long and enduring career, allowing him to remain authentic and creatively fulfilled. Now at 80, Don is still as passionate as ever. He talks about his latest album American Boys, ongoing creative projects, and the secret to maintaining his voice and energy after all these years. This is a fascinating and deeply personal conversation with one of music's true storytellers—a man who has lived through extraordinary times and turned those experiences into songs that continue to resonate across generations. In This Episode, You'll Hear:The story behind Don McLean's early career and debut album TapestryHow the chaos of the '60s influenced his songwritingThe inspiration and meaning behind American PieLife after global success—and the pressure that followedDon's personal struggles and how he rebuilt his careerWhy he chose independence over fameHis latest album American Boys and current projectsHow he's maintained his voice and creativity for over 50 years. This podcast explores the life and legacy of Tupac Shakur as presented in Jeff Pearlman's biography, "Only God Can Judge Me: The Many Lives of Tupac Shakur."The episode centers on biographer Jeff Pearlman, a white sportswriter who spent three years conducting over 650 interviews to piece together a "definitive historic record" of Tupac. Pearlman acknowledges his status as an outsider to Hip-Hop culture, describing his approach as a "blank slate" intended to listen rather than project an agenda. A pivotal moment in his reporting occurred during an interview with Tupac's sister, Sekyiwa, who "checked" his privilege by correcting his use of the word "moved" to "relocated" when describing the family's transition from Baltimore to California—a distinction that highlighted the systemic forces at play in their lives.A major portion of the discussion focuses on the "profoundly sad" reality of Tupac's childhood. While his mother, Afeni Shakur, was a revolutionary icon of the Panther 21, the book reveals the devastating impact of her crack addiction on a young Tupac. The "Thug Life" persona was, in part, a carefully constructed mask. Before his rap fame, Tupac was a sensitive ballet and theater student who loved Kate Bush and Don McLean. The narrative suggests that as "gangsta rap" became the dominant commercial force, Tupac adapted his image to fit the industry, leading to a "saga of the mask gradually eating the face" as he became increasingly reckless to maintain his street credibility.

DON McLEAN MARKS THE 55TH ANNIVERSARY OF “AMERICAN PIE” AS THE SURF BALLROOM ANNOUNCES A 2027 LIFE SIZE BRONZE STATUE HONORING THE ICONIC SINGER SONGWRITERStatue will be installed at the legendary venue where Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens and J.P. “The Big Bopper” Richardson played their final showCLEAR LAKE, Ia. (February 3, 2026) — Fifty five years after its release, Don McLean's “American Pie” remains one of the most enduring anthems in American music — a sweeping, eight minute epic that captured a nation in transition and immortalized the phrase “the day the music died.” Today, as “American Pie” turns 55 (1971–2026), McLean is celebrating the milestone on tour while also helping propel a new chapter of preservation at the Surf Ballroom & Museum in Clear Lake, Iowa. The Surf Ballroom — the National Historic Landmark where Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens and J.P. “The Big Bopper” Richardson performed on February 2, 1959 as part of the Winter Dance Party tour — announced that a life size bronze statue honoring McLean will be erected on-site in 2027. The statue will stand as a permanent tribute to the songwriter whose work helped carry the story of that night into global cultural memory, bridging generations of listeners, historians and music fans. The new statue is inspired from an existing life size bronze portrait created by acclaimed sculptor Zenos Frudakis (Philadelphia). Originally completed in 1989, the portrait was featured on the cover of McLean's album ‘Classics'. Frudakis, an acclaimed portrait sculptor and lifelong friend of McLean, is known the world over for his statues of Muhammad Ali, Nina Simone, President Dwight D. Eisenhower, and many more. He is creating an entirely new statue for public display at the Surf, adding a new landmark for visitors to the historic ballroom and its adjacent museum experiences. The announcement comes on February 3 on the heels of the 2026 Winter Dance Party at the Surf — the anniversary of the 1959 plane crash that claimed the lives of Holly, Valens and Richardson — a date forever intertwined with McLean's songwriting.“The Buddy Holly Educational Foundation is thrilled that one of our most iconic ambassadors is being honored with a statue at The Surf Ballroom, the site of Buddy Holly's final performance,” said Rick French, chairman of The Buddy Holly Educational Foundation and a national trustee of the famed Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. “While American Pie was famously inspired by the plane crash that claimed the lives of Buddy, Ritchie Valens and J.P. Richardson on February 3, 1959 , it has stood for more than half a century as an anthem to the cultural shifts of our country and is as relevant today as it has ever been.”The Buddy Holly Educational Foundation (TBHEF) works to extend musical education — including songwriting, production, arranging, orchestration and performance — to new generations regardless of income or learning levels. The Foundation also supports emerging artists through mentoring and songwriting retreats, and its Ambassadors receive a replica of Buddy Holly's own Gibson J 45 to encourage new music in his memory.“To this day Don remains one of Maria Elena Holly's closest friends and she was overjoyed to learn a statue is being cast in his honor,” added Peter Bradley, Jr., vice chairman of The Buddy Holly Educational Foundation, who is working closely with McLean, his management team and Jeff Nichols at the Surf Ballroom to plan a blockbuster unveiling of the statue upon completion.First opened in 1933 (and rebuilt in 1948 after a fire), the Surf Ballroom continues to host concerts and special events year round and welcomes visitors to explore the site's museum offerings. In recent years, the Surf expanded its educational mission with new immersive experiences honoring the artists and cultural moments that shaped early rock 'n' roll — ensuring that the ‘Winter Dance Party' story is preserved not only as history, but as a living, visitable place.DON McLEAN 2026 TOUR DATES (SUBJECT TO CHANGE):Fri, Feb 06 — Lobero Theatre — Santa Barbara, Calif.Sat, Feb 07 — Saban Theatre — Beverly Hills, Calif.Fri, Mar 20 — Seminole Casino Hotel Immokalee — Immokalee, Fla.Sat, Mar 21 — Maxwell C. Until tonight. He was worth waiting for. What a fun edutainment! We talked about his heroes, Chuck Berry to Jerry Lee Lewis, Rob's famous photographer father, who, like Rob's later boss, Bob Dylan, used art to change our thinking, to his own early days playing with Pete Seeger and Tim Hardin. From high school bands playing keyboards, guitar, and then bass, great story there as to why he picked it up, to his first session with Pete Seeger, another important mind-shaper, to Tim Hardin, and Don Mclean, with his first ill-fated named first album, Tapestry, to his second album and the session which bore his first #1 hit, American Pie. Rob tells the tale, from soup to platinum single. The session with Robert Gordon and Link Wray, recording a not-yet-wildly famous Bruce Springsteen's first recording of his soon-to-be monster hit, Fire. Where a young Rob Stoner came up with the iconic bass line that Bruce would soon “borrow.” Rob had his own record deal in '73, meeting Dylan a year later, Bob telling Rob he'd come to call, and how Rob's band became the backup band for Dylan's album Desire when he finally did call about a decade later. Rolling Thunder, Rob, the musical director, for Dylan's long-held dream to put together a traveling carnival show. How it worked, all the moving parts, and the one erratic member. Dylan. Rob told us about their relationship, never knowing if this gig would be his last, and how, thanks to Robert Gordon (and Link Wray), whom Rob would play with for over 40 years, helped Rob to end it on his terms. We talked the pandemic and how Zoom changed the game for Rob (and me, and many of us), who grew his teaching practice and extended his reach globally. His daily Facebook videos, doing what he loves, playing music that he loves, which receive millions of views. A massive Dylan fan since the 60s and enthusiast of most of the artists Rob has played with, it was a thrill to get his take on the Complete Unknown, what it was like for Baez to play with Dylan, why Robert Gordon and Link Wray eventually split up… and so much more. Rob's been there, done that, and charmingly shares the tales. Loved every moment! Welcome back to AthCastMusic. My name is Marlene Sokol Stewart, and this is my Podcast.Today's Episode is about one of those stories that feels like the ghost of Athens past. The people. The places, the timing, and the music that couldn't have happened anywhere else. Our guest Bob Hay grew up right in the middle of the musical explosion of the ‘60's, learning guitar after the Beatles changed everything. Like so many of that generations, it started with Bob listening to bands and musicians like the Animals, Simon and Garfunkel, Donovan, Don McLean, Rick Derringer and then slowly realizing that writing your own songs was actually easier than trying to perfectly play someone else's.High school bands, college years, teaching for a bit, working whatever jobs paid the bills, even time spent at a lobster restaurant in Maine, started Bob down the long and winding road. By the late ‘70's, Athens was funky, cheap and wide open. Empty buildings, a brand new mall pulling business away from downtown, and just enough creative chaos for something special to grow. A conversation with Ken Starratt in the fall of '77, and one January in Athens was all it took to know this was home. Bob worked at the Eldorado vegetarian restaurant among other odd jobs. Listening to bands on Athens WEOG, and concerts at the 40 Watt, created a perfect storm for Bon and what was rambling in his mind. After hitchhiking across the country, stopping at the Grateful Dead's 15thAnniversary, and coming back to Athens, the songs poured out; dozens of them written not just for one person, but for a band that didn't exist yet. After talking with his friend Ken Starratt and a few other musicians, The Squalls became the band those songs were waiting for. Over 60 shows at the 40 Watt, a music scene taking shape, Jim Hawkins (yes, the same Jim Hawkins who played with the Embers and backed Otis Redding) producing the first record cemented Bob Hay and the Squalls as a vital part of Athens' music explosion in the ‘70's and ‘80's. Not to mention their songs being featured in the infamous film “Inside/Out which was a pretty big deal, too. .This episode, like all of the other AthCastMusic's 50 episodes isn't just about one band or one songwriter. It's about the people who were there before Athens was famous for being Athens and the ones who helped build the foundation that everything else stands on. So, settle in! This is going to be a good one! Here is my conversation with Bob Hay.

The show covered a developing investigation into suspicious items found in Glendale, as well as a motorcycle officer involved in an accident with injuries in Garden Grove. A “WHIP” segment touched on Elon Musk’s net worth. Mark Thompson talked about doing voiceover work for an NFL commercial. Tim shared the story of one of his framed newspaper articles that had been auctioned off years ago and unexpectedly made its way back. Mark also mentioned a Huell Howser photo displayed on his nightstand. Conway recalled giving Jay Leno his headshot to hang in Leno’s garage, along with a funny story from a Comedy & Magic Club show in Hermosa Beach. The conversation drifted to another humorous anecdote involving the song “American Pie.” The hour wrapped up with discussion about whether “American Pie” has ever been covered by other artists, noting that Don McLean often performed the song twice during his concerts. The segment ended with talk about an Adam Carolla vlog in which Carolla humorously tells people at Home Depot that their project ideas aren’t going to work. The 2013 SciShow video where she first learned this false fact has since been edited to remove any reference to this hypothesis but points to this article that explains the hypothesis. This Hank Green video first brought the debunking of this hypothesis to Abigail's attention. We first sampled Barn Town on our season 4 episode Barntown (Phish and Barn Town Brewery).Abigail called Why Worry an “adult lullaby,” similar to Calm Down by Cory Chisel and the Wandering Sons. She then entered Why Worry into the Abigail Hummel School of Speaking Smartly About Music with a comparison to Little April Shower from Bambi (1942). She also brought up Baby Genius by Eels as having instrumental similarities. Barry mentioned Rain by Hans Zimmer from Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron (2002). The “vibes” in the personnel list likely refers to the vibraphone, which could very well have produced the rain sounds in Why Worry.Abigail asked if Mischievous Grin would count as a “cream tangerine” (we have officially gone zero episodes without mentioning the White Album!).Barry had heard that the three war songs on this album were inspired by the Falklands War between Argentina and the United Kingdom that lasted for a little over two months in 1982. Abigail had always pictured the Vietnam War, partly because of the imagery in Ride Across the River, and partly because Abigail's consumption of war media was heavily influenced by The Things They Carried by Tim O'Brien, a novel about the Vietnam War.While discussing The Man's Too Strong, Abigail referenced an in-character speech by comedian and professional Dungeon Master Brennan Lee Mulligan.Up next… Version 2.0 by Garbage, Abigail's annual Phone-a-Friend submission, this time with Carlo “from Canada” Sgro, the namesake of Carlo's Corner!Jingles are by our friend Pete Coe.Visit Anosmia Awareness for more information on Barry's condition.Follow Barry or Abigail on Untappd to see what we're drinking when we're not on mic!Leave us a rating or a review on Apple Podcasts or Spotify!Facebook | Instagram | Bluesky | YouTube | Substack | Website | Email us | Virtual Jukebox | Beer Media Group

In this episode of The Bandwich Tapes, I had the pleasure of talking with Ray Herndon, a musician whose story stretches from Scottsdale's legendary Handlebar J to the road with Lyle Lovett and the harmonies of McBride & The Ride.Ray and I start by digging into his family's club, Handlebar J, which has been a Scottsdale institution for 50 years. We talk about the balance of being both a musician and a restaurant owner, and what it means to carry on the legacy of a place that has hosted countless nights of music. From there, our conversation winds through his other passions, like competitive poker, and the surprising similarities he finds between playing cards and improvising on the guitar. Ray also reflects on his lifelong love of learning, including his in-depth exploration of Barry Harris's concepts, his admiration for Pat Martino, and what he learned from lessons with greats like Joe Pass and Ted Greene. We spend time swapping stories about the incredible steel guitar community, remembering players like Buck Reid, Paul Franklin, Gary Morse, Bruce Bouton, Joe Rogers, and Johnny Cox. And of course, we trace Ray's path from nights at Mr. Lucky's with J. David Sloan and the Rogues, to that fateful Luxembourg trip where his band first connected with Lyle Lovett, and how those relationships eventually led to McBride & The Ride.Ray also discusses finding his own voice as a singer and songwriter, including the enduring impact of “Me and You,” a song that has remained a staple in weddings and playlists worldwide. We close by talking about what it's like to reunite with McBride & The Ride these days and how the music has only gotten better, the pressure is gone, and the laughter comes easy, as well as his recent work with Don McLean's band.It was such a joy to hear Ray reflect on the twists and turns of his career, the people who shaped it, and the music that continues to inspire him.Music from the Episode:Amarillo Sky (McBride & the Ride)Lovin' Her Was Easier (Ray Herndon)Me and You (Ray Herndon)Thank you for listening! As a teen, and until my wreck at 18 years old, I played the guitar, keyboards, drum, kena, electric guitar and bass, xylophone, and sang at a professional level with my band “Incarauteca”. Although at the time I only had the very minimum of formal musical education, only a few years of classical guitar, I was able to play just about any instrument that was handed to me - except for the piano. The piano thing is a story for another day. Although my band mainly played cover songs for Inti-Illimani, Los Jaivas, Violeta Parra, Victor Jara, Clara Solovera and some popular latin songs, lyrics also flowed out of me non-stop. I didn't do anything with those lyrics, mind you.I was a bit of a virtuoso and also obsessed with music. At age 17 I had an experience on stage that I misconstrued as negative: an entire audience of 2000 people cried as I sang my song… “Luchin” by Victor Jara. And, after that day, I stopped singing. In fact, I even developed asthma and was not able to use my breath well enough to sing properly after that. Not understanding human emotions well, I thought I was bringing suffering to the world. So, I just focused on playing musical instruments. That was until age 18 when my decisions caused me to get seriously injured in a motorbike accident in which I died for a few minutes. Thank you brother for insisting and buying me a top of the line full head motorcycle helmet. It saved my life. When I returned to life, it was with brain damage, and damaged arms and broken back. I was not able to hold a guitar or any other instruments anymore. And even if I did manage it, music and numbers were gone from my brain matrix. I was no longer able to access them. That's the day music died for me.I took it in my stride and didn't often think about it very much. But the life I had grown up with, surrounded by instruments, tunes, lyrics and musicians, was over.Have you heard Don McLean's "American Pie"? Better known as “the day the music died.” It was a song released on October 24, 1971, as the opening track on Don McLean's album of the same name. McLean wrote the song about the date February 3, 1959, when an airplane crash resulted in the deaths of American musicians Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens, and the Big Bopper (J.P. Richardson).Although I was born seven years after the death of these musicians, and five years before the release of the song, whenever I heard it, it triggered something major in me. A lot of people have that feeling when they hear that song, even if they don't know what it is about or why it was written.Very soon after I had heard the song for the first time, I realized that it had to do with the dark side of the light/dark reality co-opting (hijacking) the mass-market music industry. It felt to me that no matter how good a singer or band was, eventually they would fall for the “sell their soul to the devil to become famous” offer or be removed from public view. Like most folk, I shook my fist at them and carried on with my life.I loved music, listening, singing along, and playing it. But every time I would buy a single or listen to music on the radio, it was littered with negative messages. Messages that disempowered, that made people addicted to drama, degradation, and just nasty stuff.Mostly, I stopped listening to music. At some point, I received the guidance to learn the violin and the French language. I started doing that and my brain damage started to repair, albeit very slowly.A few years later, I discovered the “Aquacure”, which I used and quickly realized after using it for a few months that it had completely cured my asthma, and the brain damage had started to dissolve. Suddenly, I was able to count and recall numbers and hear notes again… and make sense of them.During our December 2024 live call, when I looked at 2025, one of the items I saw was “the music returns”. I didn't at the time realize the personal nature of that seeing, just the effect this would have on the world at large. For me, it has been a very personal experience. And my personal experience opens the gates for all high-frequency musicians to touch our souls and reach the stars in the way we know is true and real. Music that is divine, empowering, and uplifting while keeping the styles we love, like rock, classical, urban Latin reggaeton, pop, country… There are literally no limits. What exactly happened to me, to bring this about? On July 14th, 2025, I was reviewing an article by the WE awareness. Often I have to work on those to translate them into “human”. A fellow writer had told me that using an AI to proofread things was fast and very helpful. So, I ran the article through an AI. There were a few grammatical items to work on as well as some helpful feedback. Then our cat Brad jumped on my desk, including my keyboard, and brought the whole thing to a standstill. About the same time, Larry was on Facebook and saw an ad about making music with AI. As I complained about the “work” that Brad was doing to my essay, he made a song called “Cat-astrophy” about a cat helping write an essay. We listened to it together and laughed our heads off.At this point, as I was working within the WE awareness, the idea came to run their articles through the AI to get lyrics out of it and then to run the lyrics through the AI that made music. My idea was to create a band that would go into my future book series Daisy Chain and be a part of the world creation and lore of those novels. The band “Glass Daisy” was born. The first lyrics came out of the WE article. As WE looked at them, we saw they needed some heavy editing. So, we did that. I then ran it through the music AI to generate the instruments and a specific synthesized voice. I realized that getting the sound just right was a bit of a challenge. But, after a few hours of tuning and editing the ‘playing of the AI instrument', we (I) managed to do it. You can hear this first song on our podcast “Driving To The Rez,” and the album it will be on is released in September 2025 on ineliarecords.com.Soon after that, the WE showed me that breaking through the communication barrier they had been experiencing when talking to people would be enormously facilitated by the use of our lyrics combined with different styles of music. That is how the various other “artists” were born. Now, the WE speak and sing through: Glass Daisy - Dream Pop, Roxy Vale - Soul Rock, Iron Cedar - Native American Rock, Alicia Avila - Nueva Canción Chilena Rock, Luc Lake - Tech House, Leo Mar - Urban Latin Reggaeton, and Jazzy Stevens - Retro Pop. We also plan to recruit a rap artist, a country singer and jazz/blues singer. On Friday the 12th of September at 1 PM Pacific, I will hold a live event to explain my process, the tools I use, how to use them, and the pitfalls to avoid. Yes, you can click on these AI tools twice and get a song. But if you want a high-frequency song, it is a little more involved. If you want to express your life and experience, it takes some more work. We will also listen to unreleased tracks. Be there or be square! It is also the day I release “Breaking Through The Glass Daisy”, the album that includes that first song and is an integral world-building part of the “Daisy Chain” novels. The discussion doesn't stop here - listen to the full podcast episode for unfiltered insights from Inelia and our panelists. This SPECIAL EPISODE introduces my new single “THE CUT OF THE KNIFE”. It's the last of the four new singles that I've released monthly beginning in March. The first was “Rough Rider”, the second was “Moon Shot”, and the third was “Day At The Races”.I wrote “The Cut Of The Knife as a kind of homage to Dave Brubeck, the revered American jazz pianist. His saxophonist, Paul Desmond, wrote a song called “Take Five”, and the Brubeck band recorded it in 1959 on their album “Time Out”. That tune has become the biggest selling jazz song of all time. It even became a big crossover hit on the radio. One of the things that made “Take Five” so cool was that it was written in an odd time signature, 5/4 time. So the song's title was a play on words about its time signature and it was also an inside musician's phrase telling the band to relax for five minutes before the next set.“The Cut Of The Knife” features an incredible Guest Artist on guitar solo - Kerry Marx, the Musical Director of the Grand Ole Opry band who has been a guest on this podcast. His credits include touring with Johnny Mathis, Olivia Newton-John and Don McLean, recordings with Bob Dylan and Johnny Cash, movie albums like “Finding Nemo”, and music awards shows like Billboard, CMA and the American Music Awards. And a shout out goes to two of my longtime Project Grand Slam band mates - Baden Goyo on keys and Joel E. Mateo on drums. Both play terrific solos on the new single. And Joel's drum solo is particularly meaningful because Joe Morello, Brubeck's drummer, played a memorable drum solo on “Take Five”.“The Cut Of The Knife” has been called “Elegant”, “Beautiful” and “A Wonder”!CLICK HERE FOR ALL LINKSCLICK HERE FOR THE OFFICIAL VIDEO ---------------------------------------------The Follow Your Dream Podcast:Top 1% of all podcasts with Listeners in 200 countries!Click here for All Episodes Click here for Guest List Click here for Guest Groupings Click here for Guest TestimonialsClick here to Subscribe Click here to receive our Email UpdatesClick here to Rate and Review the podcast—----------------------------------------ROBERT'S RECENT SINGLES:“DAY AT THE RACES” is Robert's single that captures the thrills, chills and pageantry of horse racing's Triple Crown. What a Creep“The Day the Music Died” Season 27, Episode 10"The Day the Music Died" is a phrase coined by singer-songwriter Don McLean in 1971 in his 8-and-a-half-minute song “American Pie.” The tragic deaths of Buddy Holly, The Big Bopper, and Ritchie Valens on February 3, 1959, shocked the world and have been the subject of study for decades. In this episode, I will discuss the lives of the men who lost their lives that night and the harsh realities of life on tour during the early days of rock and roll.Sources for this episode:Britannica Video KCCI-TV “This Day in History”The Day in Weather Fox NewsAll Things CruisingBuddy Holly: A Life from Beginning to End (Biographies of Musicians)  Wisconsin Life.orgTrigger warning: Plane crashBe sure to follow us on social media.
