Welcome back to the Daily Metal Breakdown. In today's episode, we break down a serious new civil lawsuit hitting Tool, Puscifer, and A Perfect Circle frontman Maynard James Keenan in Arizona, where a former management partner alleges a retaliatory corporate freeze-out over their craft gin venture. Plus, legendary bass icon Rudy Sarzo (Ozzy, Quiet Riot, Whitesnake, DIO) drops a massive curveball by announcing independent solo material heavily inspired by the pristine engineering of the late-1970s Yacht Rock movement. Finally, we look at Machine Gun Kelly powering through a grueling two-hour set after a violent, failed after-party roof jump left him with a severe back injury. What You'll Hear in This Episode: Boardroom Battles: The full operational breakdown of the civil complaint filed against Maynard James Keenan in Maricopa County over Potions LLC and Thirteen Moons Gin. Whistleblower Retaliation Allegations: Why plaintiff Dave Sanclemente claims he was locked out of the company books just one month after reporting alleged misconduct at Keenan's outside business operations. Rudy Sarzo Goes Independent: The legendary timekeeper details his new studio tracking approach, bypassing record labels to honor his early Miami roots with clean, bass-forward arrangements. The Show Must Go On: How MGK sustained a brutal spinal injury during a theatrical crowd-dive mishap in Connecticut and why he refused to cancel his active "Lost Americana" tour dates. In 1979, Sister Sledge changed the sound of wedding receptions forever with “We Are Family.” Believe it or not, the Chic-penned banger never made it to No. 1. Steely Dan helped invent Yacht Rock with 1977's jazzy bop “Peg.” (They would have loved it better if it had cracked the Top 10.) And in 1972, Elton John told a timeless tale of a blue-jean baby, a “Tiny Dancer.” Casey Kasem never counted it down.Today on Hit Parade: Chris Molanphy celebrates “near misses”—now-ubiquitous hits that missed the mark on the pop charts, stalling out at No. 2, No. 11, or No. 41. Dale has been sitting on a $500 loan for almost a year, has seen the guy in person, and still hasn't said a word. Rachel and Amy Lundy — creator of MOABs, the Mother of All Baby Showers, and today's in-studio guest — talk him into sending a Venmo request like a normal person. He won't. Meanwhile, Rachel's daughter crashes the call-in line, reports on the missing hair dryer, eats fruity pebbles, and gives the room a masterclass on throwing it in a circle. Amy survives all of it for her very first podcast appearance.Rachel's best friend Marni calls in from her Uber mom afternoon to settle the funniest-friend debate once and for all (she loses), bond with Dale over Friends trivia, and pitch everyone on scoring media passes to Bruno Mars. Summer concert season comes up — Usher, Chris Brown, Lionel Richie, Yacht Rock at a Marlins game — and somehow it all connects back to white people and Teslas. The episode closes on a sinus infection waiting room rant, a teaser about e-bikes that's going to get heated next week, and a Two Live Jews sponsorship read that nobody saw coming.Episode Sponsor:Presented by 1-800 Call Lee — South Florida's trusted personal injury team. Chris and Jay from The Strike jump on the mic for a fun, honest conversation about how a group of California friends turned a college project in Utah into a globally touring band with one of the most loyal fanbases in indie pop. We get into the early days, the LA roommate era, and how that brotherhood shaped their sound, plus what life looks like now balancing music with teaching careers, family, and everything in between. They also open up about their evolving creative process—writing and recording across different cities, collaborating with top-tier producers, and building their next chapter piece by piece. Of course, we talk about their reputation for electric live shows and what fans can expect from the No Time To Waste Tour this summer. And we wrap with their latest single “Famous”—a smooth, nostalgic track with a message that cuts deeper than its feel-good vibe, asking what we really want to be known for.

It is difficult for me to characterize what Scott, Elizabeth, and myself discussed on the latest LGM podcast, better known as “the tightest 117 minutes in the history of podcasting.” Our writ was to discuss the latest Paranoid Style album, “Known Associates,” as well as to talk about Elizabeth’s contribution of liner notes to The Replacements’ Let it Be: Deluxe Edition and we did indeed discuss these things, but there were digressions. Some questions that emerged and re-emerged over the course of the pod: What is your theory of album sequencing, in terms of where you put the best song and where you put the hardest song? Is this album the Paranoid Style’s entry into the Yacht Rock genre? Does the presence of a saxophone necessarily imply Yacht Rock, or is some sort of boat reference also required? Is Van Halen Yacht Rock? Let’s phone a friend. Do you have strong feelings about the remastering of Tim? Elizabeth would like to hear from you. Are you offended by aspersions against Soul Asylum? Did Rod Stewart sell out? Is selling out even bad? How does Donald Trump feel about Kiss? What’s the deal with authenticity? What would say to Prince if he were using the urinal next to you? What would you say to Jon Langford? Would you like to hear a funny story about Keith Richards and drugs? Or one about Wussy? Did SEK go on a bender with Keith Richards? Did RFK Jr.? What will it be like the day that Sir Paul McCartney leaves us? A bunch of songs about Canadian songwriters, where Gordon Lightfoot is asked to be ranked by some metric? Is Gordon Lightfoot Yacht Rock? Is any expression of admiration for the Drive By Truckers excessive? The answer is no. Are the DBTs Yacht Rock? What is the demographic profile of an LGM podcast listener? Would we mind more of Elizabeth’s review of rock n’ roll books? Could Elizabeth be lured to Lexington for the Keeneland Spring Meet? Could this podcast have been more effectively edited for content and coherence? Possibly. Transcript is here.
