The podcast episode features Jesse Rifkin, the owner of Walk on the Wildside Tours NYC, a music history walking tour company in New York City, and the author of the book 'This Must Be the Place: Music, Community, and Vanishing Spaces in New York City.' Rifkin shares his background, including his consultancy roles as a pop music historian and his 12 years as a touring musician. They discuss his first concert experience, watching Bob Dylan with Ani DiFranco as the opening act at the Filene Center in Vienna, Virginia, and the interesting intersections his life has had with notable music historians like Alan Lomax.Rifkin recounts his experience attending a unique U2 concert at the Apollo Theater in Harlem, highlighting how seeing a globally famous band in an intimate venue was a surreal and memorable experience. He emphasizes the different dimensions of enjoying massive arena shows versus small, underground music scenes. He talks about his favorite bands, particularly Akron Family and other experimental groups, often performing at DIY venues like Silent Barn and emphasizing how these experiences felt more personal and impactful. The conversation shifts to Jesse's walking tours, which often focus on the punk and post-punk scenes in NYC, featuring iconic sites like CBGB. He discusses the importance of understanding the human and local context behind legendary music and bands, offering a more tangible and relatable connection to this history. His tours aim to demystify the grandiosity of famous musicians by highlighting their humble beginnings in intimate settings. Finally, Jesse talks about his book and its evolution from his extensive tours and Instagram presence, which caught the attention of his editor in 2019. He details the content of the book, which spans 60 years of music history, categorizing different NYC music scenes, and offers practical insights into creating community-driven music venues. Jesse's mission is to show that music and performance spaces can be accessible and transformative, urging people to see the possibility within DIY approaches to music and community building.BANDS: Akron Family, Bad Brains, Beastie Boys, Blondie, Bob Dylan, Castanets, The Cure, Elephant 6 Recording Company, Grateful Dead, Lynyrd Skynard, Neutral Milk Hotel, New York Dolls, Olivia Tremor Control, Patti Smith, Ramones, Sonic Youth, Talking Heads, U2, Velvet Underground, Wooden Wand and the Vanishing Voice, Woods.VENUES: 171A, Apollo Theater, Bowery Ballroom, CBGB, Death by Audio, Jelly NYC, Silent Barn, Tonic, Uncle Paulie's, Wolf Trap. Elf Power is an indie rock band from Athens, Georgia, known for its blend of psychedelic, folk, and dreamy rock sounds. They got started in the mid-90s and quickly became part of the “Elephant 6 Collective,” a group of bands like Neutral Milk Hotel and The Apples in Stereo who created unique, experimental music.I had sold a lot of Elf Power's music in the record stores I worked. I had not listened to them in quite some time. I had forgotten how their music is often dreamy and mysterious, full of quirky lyrics and catchy tunes. Seeing them several times now since I began this podcast has opened up a new and more educated listening for me. Their songs explore themes like nature, dreams, and the surreal, and their albums are like journeys into different worlds. With frontman Andrew Rieger's distinct voice and poetic lyrics, Elf Power has a sound that's both gentle and powerful. Being able to talk to Andrew of Elf Power was not only a history lesson beginning with Andrew's recording solo 4 track cassettes, to recording in studios with some of the top producers in the industry. This resulted in their discography capturing a mix of haunting melodies, thought-provoking lyrics, and a musical style that's earthy yet otherworldly. I was so happy to see them live, and I am still rekindling my love of this band. This talk with Andrew was perfect as I listened to some of Andrew's thoughts that creeped into the side of quirky meets surreal. I hope you have a great auditory experience listening to Andrew Rieger.Show AthCastMusic (©): The Music of Athens Georgia, Now and Then.SEASON: 3 Episode 34Length: 39:23PUBLISHED:Updated Weekly on ThursdayEngineer: Kayla DoverIntern: Kati Putman (UGA Music School)Recorded at Tweed Recording Audio Production Schoolhttps://tweedrecording.comCONTACT FOR ATHCASTMUSIC:marlene@athcastmusic.cominstagram: AthCastMusicFaceBook: https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=61550294283019INSTAGRAM: ELFPOWERBANDFACEBOOK: https:/facebook.com/elfpowerWebsite: elfpower.comBAND CAMP: bit.ly/4flHImAOR https://elfpower,bandcamp.com

What a beautiful face we have found in this place.. it's the face of a tambourine! We're entering the Year Of Discovery on a strong note and talking about In The Aeroplane Over The Sea, the second and final album by the mysterious and eclectic Neutral Milk Hotel. This cult classic record is a sonic journey through Jeff Mangum's haunted carnival of lucid dreams and WWII imagery, with a little bit (lotta bit?) of Anne Frank sprinkled throughout. We'll explore goopy, disjointed lyrics, innovative distortion techniques, singing saws, and more as we head back to Holland, 1945. The Mixtaper is teaching us about donkey cheese and expensive chess in another installment of Foxtrot Oscar Sierra! From those red lips to the Two-Headed Boy, we hit it all this week! "A Master Class In Songwriting" Jad Fair is probably best known as one half of Half Japanese. Formed with his brother David in 1974, the Maryland by way of Michigan outift remain one of the more curious entires into the pantheon of rock and roll. Their songs are jagged and battered mini-anthems about broken hearts, monsters and...broken hearts and monsters. As Jad Fair once said, their songs are either love songs or monster songs. And there are a lot of songs. For example: the band's sophomore effort was a triple album, some records have 45 songs all under two minutes. Some of the tracks are barely one...Half Japanese have quite a discography, including classics like Music To Strip By, Charmed Life and The Band Who Would Be King. Over the course of their idiosyncratic, non-traditional career, they've counted the Velvet Underground's Moe Tucker as a member, put out albums on Penn Jillette's record label, opened for NIrvana, and collaborated with Daniel Johnston, Kramer, Steve Fisk, Thurston Moore, Fred Frith Teenage Fanclub, Yo La Tengo, The Pastels, Jason Willett and John Zorn, and were chosen by Neutral Milk Hotel's Jeff Magnum to play the All Tomorrow's Parties festival that he was curating. Half Japanese are underground heroes, who broke every rule of modern music and then broke the rules they broke. They remain a dynamic, artistic and powerful creative endeavor. As for Jad Fair, he's done anything but slow down. Aside from putting out a handful of solo albums, as a visual artist Fair's artwork has yielded several books and museum shows across the world. His papercut style is singular and charming, but also rife with a simple complexity. It's really staggering stuff. Also staggering: his new album 100 Songs (A Master Class In Songwriting). It consists of, you guessed it: 100 songs. Impressed? Well, his other new album Film Music has 150. Filled with swerving low-fi bliss, there's not a false note to be found on these records. But of course there isn't: it's Jad Fair. And Jad Fair operates from a cosmos of creative impulse. And that impulse is as pure and driving as it gets. www.jadfair.net (http://www.jadfair.net) www.bombshellradio.com (http://www.bombshellradio.com) www.stereoembersmagazine.com (http://www.stereoembersmagazine.com) www.alexgreenbooks.com (http://www.alexgreenbooks.com) Twitter: @emberseditor IG: @emberspodcast Email: editor@stereoembersmagazine.com (mailto:editor@stereoembersmagazine.com)

Then, things go off with the Jason Molina's crushing music, Neutral Milk Hotel's being too ubiquitous, music that's so vapid it rocks, Peter Gabriel's wild romantic lines, the brutality and awesomeness of “Cop Killer,” Willie Nelson bringing a sadness to someone else's song that is devastating, the undeniable nature of Dead Prez, our mutual Roman Empire, and more!Listen to all of Lee's picks HEREDis Fig & The Body “Orchards of a Futile Heaven”The Body on InstagramSongs of Our Lives is a podcast series hosted by Brad Rose of Foxy Digitalis that explores the music that's made us and left a certain mark. Zach Condon, AKA Beirut, Blondie's Debbie Harry and Chris Stein, and Stephin Merritt of the Magnetic Fields discuss the myth of self-expression as an artist, the influence your location, and particularly New York, has on songwriting, and what unexpected genres we might get musical influences from.Zach Condon, AKA Beirut, grew up in the city of Santa Fe, New Mexico, and from a young age absorbed a vast array of musical influences. When he was 14 his older brother moved to New York and left behind a strict musical education of minimal German electronica, hip hop and mix tapes of Neutral Milk Hotel. From ther,e he began recording little tunes with a trumpet, a drum machine, a synthesizer and his father's acoustic guitar. He was finally convinced to try playing a few concerts when he was around 17, and has since gone on to release eight studio albums and tour all over the world. His new album Hadsel came out this year and is named after a northern Norwegian island where he spent time in 2020. Singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Stephin Merritt is best known for fronting The Magnetic Fields, one of the most important indie rock bands of the last 30 years. He is renowned for his beautiful melodies and rich lyrics, meticulously crafting soundscapes using a variety of acoustic, electronic and improvised instruments. Debbie Harry and Chris Stein are members of one of punk and pop's most influential bands, Blondie. They formed in 1974 in New York and were pioneers of the city's new wave scene, going on to top the charts around the world with hits such as Atomic, Heart of Glass and Hanging on the Telephone. They've gone through many line-up changes over the years, but been held together by the two amazing musicians we have with us today.
It's a quarter of a century since Neutral Milk Hotel effectively stopped. Here's a celebration plus some bands who owe a debt to their unique sound.

North Carolina-based label Merge Records, inarguably one of America's most influential and prolific purveyors of indie-rock, is on the cusp of turning 35 -- a landmark that co-founders Laura Ballance and Mac McCaughan likely couldn't fathom when they started the label in 1989. Then, Merge was simply a DIY avenue to release tunes by their scrappy quartet Superchunk. But along the way, as the band's jangly but caffeinated power-pop caught on with an international audience, Merge evolved from a modest method of putting out music by Mac and Laura's friends into the beloved home of cult acts like Neutral Milk Hotel, Spoon, The Magnetic Fields and countless others, eventually becoming the first indie label to garner an Album of the Year Grammy, for Arcade Fire's 'The Suburbs' in 2011. On this week's show, Mac reflects on Merge's early years, the label's new vinyl-centric web series Digging For Something, as well as Superchunk's latest compilation of singles, demos and other oddities dropping this week, titled 'Misfits & Mistakes.' Toronto-London based experimental group, The Flowers of Hell, founded by Greg Jarvis release their latest album called "Keshakhtaran" via Space Age Recordings. "The Flowers of Hell" is rooted in an old blues idea about how music transforms the misery and toil of musicians into the joy of listeners, as well as Baudelaire's poetry book called, "Les Fleurs Du Mal." "Keshakhtaran," meaning "seeking nirvana through meditation to sound, especially when you're stoned," is suitably named. The album presents a 42-minute instrumental psilocybin meditation piece in two parts, rooted in sax, flugel horn, chimes, harp, sitar and opera soprano vocals, augmented with tremolos, flutters, horns, woodwinds, strings and percussion. The album was mastered by Grammy recipient Peter J. Moore (Bob Dylan, Joni Mitchell, Neil Young, Joe Strummer). For the past 18 years, The Flowers Of Hell have traversed the experimental edges of indie, classical and jazz, with music often rooted in the audio-visual synesthesia of Jarvis. Despite relative obscurity, they have been championed by music legends such as Lou Reed, Sonic Boom, Kevin Shields and members of The Legendary Pink Dots, Death In Vegas, The Wedding Present, The Fugs and The Plastic People Of The Universe, not to mention support from NASA's Mission Control team and the Tate Gallery. THE FLOWERS OF HELL also released their deluxe first vinyl pressing of Lou Reed-endorsed "Odes" album for Record Store Day UK. "Odes," pays tribute to The Joy Division, Bob Dylan, Fleetwood Mac, Stereolab, Laurie Anderson, The Velvet Underground, Siouxsie & the Banshees and Neutral Milk Hotel, among others. http://www.flowersofhell.comhttps://flowersofhell.bandcamp.comPlaylist and podcast: https://djnocturna.com YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/c/DJNocturnaListen : http://modsnapradio.comQUEEN OF WANDS with DJ Nocturna Every Saturday on ModSnap RadioKMOD: San Antonio2pm (HST), 5pm (PST), 6pm (MST), 7pm (CST), 8pm (EST)

Consider this a little preview into some long awaited stories from some pretty reclusive musicians (from Neutral Milk Hotel, The Olivia Tremor Control, The Apples in Stereo, and more!) that you'll find in The Elephant 6 Recording Company, IN SELECT THEATRES RIGHT NOW (see if it's playing near you here: https://www.elephant6movie.com/) AND STREAMING TO APPLE AND AMAZON PRIME SEPTEMBER 2nd!!!!!!Links:The Elephant 6 Recording Company trailer: https://youtu.be/PCzXf5ZiE3k?si=WWRJZNmSyBt3jKwT"In the Aeroplane Over the Sea" clip: https://youtu.be/cWElzqll2Ls?si=fBU-Mjq3bDZ3-9sfgroup outside LA screening singing "In the Aeroplane Over the Sea together: https://www.instagram.com/reel/Cv1d8mOx5sG/?utm_source=ig_web_button_share_sheet&igshid=MzRlODBiNWFlZA==Expert explains Green Typewriter section of album: https://www.reddit.com/r/OliviaTremorControl/comments/f151x8/green_typewriters_meaning/OUR DISCORD: https://discord.gg/2stA2P7pTC Flyover State Hotline - 1 608 HIT-NERD (608-448-6373)https://www.youtube.com/flyoverstatepark EVERYTHING ELSE: https://linktr.ee/FlyoverStatePark --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/albumconcepthour/support
Kids, 90s emo ain't your geriatric millennials' emo. This is Gen X giving the world its greatest contribution to popular culture this side of The Simpsons. The 90s were the golden age for guitar-based bands made up of (mostly) dudes that were in touch with their feelings, and had an undeniable urge to scream about it or at least put their unique spin on songs about love and youthful exuberance. The ever-knowledgeable Ryan Stockstad helps ATTT wrap up our conversation about this particular place, time, genre and subgenre that spawned massive successes in the following decade. TOP TEN 90s EMO BANDS Part 2 features the kind of heart-on-sleeve rock that can and will endure in any age.If you missed Part 1, listen to picks 10-6 here:https://www.podomatic.com/podcasts/alltimetopten/episodes/2023-08-14T04_00_00-07_00If you liked the music in this episode you MUST hear the songs in their entirety! We attend the premiere of The Elephant 6 Recording Co. Documentary and end up singing Neutral Milk Hotel under the stars in Barnsdale Art Park.It inspires a chat about scenes, the indie rock dream, getting freaky with friends and the relief of selling your cryptocurrency.Out everywhere August 25https://www.elephant6movie.com/ Hosted on Acast. Today's episode is about "The Elephant 6 Recording Co." (C.B. Stockfleth, 2023), about the titular record label's roster of wild outsider indie artists such as Neutral Milk Hotel, the Olivia Tremor Control, the Apples In Stereo, Elf Power, the Music Tapes, the Minders, the Gerbils, of Montreal, Beulah, Dressy Bessy, Great Lakes & more. Our Very Special Guest is the legendary Lance Bangs, whose credits are too long to list here, but he's worked with most of your favorite musical artists and all of your favorite Jackasses. The movie is a true audiovisual treat, and Lance was there at the time with these musicians (he was roommates with Jeff Mangum of Neutral Milk Hotel) and provided much of the film and still photography seen in the movie. So he's the perfect person to shed light on the 90's underground music and art scene in Athens, GA and the making of the movie itself. Plus we discuss the origin of Jackass, his films about Pavement and Slint, and the long and tantalizing list of musicians who Lance has filmed over the years for documentaries we hope to see one day. The Elephant 6 Recording Co. is in US theaters August 25th, 2023 and on VOD September 1 (Amazon & Apple TV) from Greenwich Entertainment. In Canadian Theaters August 25th and VOD September 26th from levelFILM. On today's episode, I talk to musician Heather Trost. Originally from Albuquerque, NM, Heather really started taking music seriously in college, often touring whenever she wasn't in class. In the early 2000s, she met her now husband, Neutral Milk Hotel drummer Jeremy Barnes and joined his fledgling project A Hawk and A Hacksaw, making it a duo. Since that time, they have released six albums, the latest of which is Forest Bathing in 2018. As a solo musician, Heather has released four albums, and her latest Desert Flowers, was released late last year on Ba Da Bing Records, and it's great! In 1998, an indie band from Louisiana released their second full length album, expecting it to sell only 8,000 copies. The album was a strange and psychedelic journey into the dreams of frontman Jeff Magnum, no attempts to prettily explain anything, every piece of imagery sang as is. Keep in mind the album was released in '98, at the same time an internet site name 4chan became popular. And with that, this indie folk rock with only 8,000 manufactured copies became an overnight internet sensation. Let's talk Neutral Milk Hotel's "In The Aeroplane Over The Sea"!
On April 14, 2018, at Jackpot! Recording Studio, I interviewed Robert Schneider in front of a live audience. Afterwards, he did a short solo set, and then The Minders played – a band both of us had recorded albums for and are friends with. Robert and I first met in 1996, when I interviewed him and The Apples In Stereo for Tape Op #2. Alongside some classic Apples and The Minders albums and other projects he's in, he recorded and produced records for Neutral Milk Hotel [#11] and The Olivia Tremor Control [#17] and co-founded The Elephant 6 Recording Co. (See the wonderful The Elephant 6 Recording Co. documentary that we are both in). Now, with his recently attained Doctorate in mathematics, we sat down in front of a live audience to chat again! Check out the podcast of this conversation as well!
Happy Good Friday, if that's something I'm supposed to say. For our Easter special we've got Jennifer's friend, author Christian Chiakulas talking to us about the Jesus guy everyone's talking about right now. I'd offer a synopsis of his book, but the title The Carpenter's Son: A Proletarian Reconstruction of Jesus of Nazareth, seems to cover the basics. Needless to say, Brandon was very excited and had a ton of questions involving dialectics, materialism, and other terms I only barely comprehend. That said, it's a fairly easy read, largely focusing on existing research about the man, Jesus Christ, and attempting to place biblical events and writings in a historical context that doesn't line up great with the American christian right. I had no trouble following it and I'm a fucking idiot. Just gotta skip over some of the big words. You'll get it. Next week we'll toss up the last half hour of our conversation in which we mostly talk about food. Apparently there's a type of Chicago-style pizza other than deep dish. I've never had either of them, but they all swear by all of them. Opening track came up when I searched for Neutral Milk Hotel's "I love you Jesus Christ" song in Google. It barely has any listens and it's only a minute long, but it made me laugh. Good SEO skills, deadcowboy. Happy to double your 29 listens with this episode.
This is magical. July 17, 2014 Royal Oak MI. Neutral Milk Hotel puts on an incredible performance of tracks from The Aeroplane Over The Sea and the Ferris Wheel On Fire EP. We hear incredibly intimate performances of Two Headed Boy, King of Carrot Flowers Pt 1, Holland 1945, & In The Aeroplane Over The Sea. Genius.

We kick off our Shore Series with 90s classic Neutral Milk Hotel. April Ludgate isn't the only person who adores this band but Neutral Milk certainly created some controversy between the boys as they try to decide what beer is Neutral Milk Hotel.

As part of our 25th anniversary album series, Silver Liner Notes, we look at the legacy of Neutral Milk Hotel's seminal indie rock album, In the Aeroplane Over the Sea. To discuss its legacy, we're joined by Lance Bangs and Rob Hatch-Miller, producer and executive producer of the documentary "The Elephant 6 Recording Co." about the collective from which the band emerged. Bangs was also a friend of the band and recorded a live album for them in 1997, which is included in the new box set, The Collected Works of Neutral Milk Hotel, out February 24.

There is no sensible reason for us to do this episode other than masochism. Most people will not enjoy this, or us by extension, and we should probably look into life insurance for the death threats coming. However, we stand by these picks as getting way more praise than they deserve. Mike and Alex fight and agree at various points here, so clearly no one is on the same page.Patreonhttps://www.patreon.com/everyalbumeverMerchhttps://pandermonkey.creator-spring.com/Mike's EP:Pander Monkey on Bandcamp, Spotify, Apple,Instagram:Mike @pandermonkeyAlex @everyalbumalexHistory Tom's stuff:Debut album on Bandcamp, Spotify, AppleSubstackWebsiteMike's Picks:5. The holidays are here, meaning it's not only time to tune out holiday music in every store but it's also time to chill out, lay on your couch, and binge watch movies. This week on Indiecast, hosts Steven Hyden and Ian Cohen share their recommendations for the best music documentaries to check out (or to put on in the background while decorating your Christmas tree). Plus, they look back on iconic record label The Elephant 6, which was a home for bands like Neutral Milk Hotel and The Olivia Tremor Control. In terms of banter this week, Indiecast talks Twitter's still-uncertain future and how difficult it would be to hash out trends if the platform shut down completely. They also imagine kind of music they'd play if they had a college radio show (hint: it'd be pretty similar to Indiecast). The Recommendation Corner this week has Ian shouting out Drowse's Wane Into It, which is a mix of slowcore-country combined with Mount Eerie. Steven shouts out Weyes Blood's latest album And In The Darkness Hearts Aglow.New episodes of Indiecast drop every Friday. Earlier this year, a major pop culture prediction was made: 2022 is the year indie sleaze returns. Think smudged makeup, disco pants, an odd obsession with cheap beer, and, of course, Meet Me In The Bathroom-era indie rock. So, it's only right that the period's most respectable band, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, are also making their comeback. On this week's Indiecast episode, hosts Steven Hyden and Ian Cohen review the band's comeback album Cool It Down (44:41). Plus, they share their thoughts on Wilco's absolutely massive box set (32:36) and plug Steven's just-released book, Long Road: Pearl Jam And The Soundtrack Of A Generation (20:06).The most talked-about music news story this week was fueled by Pitchfork's massive listicle where they rounded up the 250 best songs of the '90s (1:37). Like any major retrospective music list, the choices outraged some, particularly those who noted that Céline Dion made an appearance over Neutral Milk Hotel. In this week's Recommendation Corner (54:53), Ian notes the return of screamo legends City Of Caterpillar. Meanwhile, Steven tells listeners to check out 2nd Grade's new album, Easy Listening.New episodes of Indiecast drop every Friday. Grab your banjo and put on your seatbelts because today Rob Lowe and Alan Yang are watching S3E14 of Parks and Recreation! In "Road Trip" Chris sends Leslie and Ben on a trip to the capital while Tom's new game creates tension between April and Andy. In this episode you'll hear why the rare bonding moment between Ann and April was important, Mike Schur's love of Neutral Milk Hotel and hate for hot fruit, how RoLo's Banjo improv came to be, and why creating a mix CD is a true artform. All of this and a subtle lesson in mainland Mandarin! Got a question for the Pawnee Town Hall or do you eat Cheez-its with raisins? Send us an email: ParksandRecollectionTownHall@gmail.com Or leave a 30-Second voicemail at: (310) 893-6992 Leslie still harbors strong romantic feelings for Ben, but cannot date him due to Chris Traeger's strict policy against workplace dating. Just as Ann suggests to Leslie that she should avoid being alone with Ben, Chris asks Leslie and Ben to drive to Indianapolis to pitch Pawnee as the next host of the Indiana Little League Baseball tournament. Leslie and Ann devise numerous boring conversation topics for the trip to prevent it from becoming romantic. After an awkward drive to Indianapolis, Leslie and Ben speak before the Little League Commission, which seems reluctant to choose Pawnee for the tournament. Ben delivers a heartfelt speech about the town, but also appears to be secretly speaking about his feelings for Leslie. Meanwhile, Tom asks Andy, April, Jerry and Donna to participate in a new game show called Know Ya Boo, that he is hoping to pitch to networks; he admits that it is a rip-off of The Newlywed Game. It quickly becomes clear that Jerry and Donna know much more about each other than the recently married Andy and April. When April reveals her favorite band is Neutral Milk Hotel and not Andy's band Mouse Rat, Andy angrily leaves the game. April and Andy have a big fight which causes him to quit his music. April seeks advice from Ann because, although she dislikes her, Ann previously dated Andy for several years. Ann tells April she has to be supportive of Andy no matter how she feels. The next day, April brings the other members of Mouse Rat to city hall and surprises Andy by singing one of his songs. A thrilled Andy reconciles with April. In a separate C Story, a young girl named Lauren (Alyssa Shafer) asks to interview Ron for her school's field trip assignment to city hall. Ron initially resists, but soon espouses his libertarian beliefs to her. He illustrates the concept of taxes by eating 40 percent of Lauren's lunch, to compare his actions to those of the government. She eagerly accepts his anti-government views. The next day, Lauren's furious mother reveals her daughter's assignment was "Why Government Matters", and that Lauren simply wrote "It doesn't". Ron apologizes, and later tells Lauren she should keep her views on government to herself until she gets older. Ben's speech clearly impresses both the judges and Leslie, and Pawnee is ultimately selected for the tournament. Leslie reluctantly accepts Ben's invitation to a celebratory dinner that night, where Ben brings up his feelings for her. She slips away to call Ann for advice, and Ann urges Leslie to act on her feelings. Just as Leslie decides to do so, she is surprised to find Chris has arrived at the dinner to congratulate the two personally. He insists they sleep at his home in Indianapolis, ruining their night. The next day, Leslie and Ben run into each other alone and Ben reveals Chris is out for the day. Ben then immediately kisses her, to which Leslie reciprocates, leaving her simultaneously delighted and nervous about their future.
