For VIP, it's back to Portland for Prestige Wrestling's Roseland 8 and Bullet Club War Dogs in a street fight against C4 and Sonico with Sonico's fabled Roseland streak on the line, plus Smiley Kylie Rae vs. Miyu Yamashita.

This week on the Grainmaker Wrestling Podcast, I am joined by Derrick Shaw! A graduate of Fale's Dojo in New Zealand, Derrick has been absolutely crushing it in the PNW. Coming off a huge match with Daniel Makabe, Derrick goes in depth talking about the match, his thoughts on it and more. He also talks about being a part of two intakes training at Fale's Dojo, being stuck there during the pandemic, being Fale's cook, and so much more! There are some audio glitches during this as the connection up in the PNW wasn't the best as Derrick was en route to a show, but still a great show!

Independent music and independent pro wrestling may seem like disparate art forms, but that's until you dig deeper into their histories. Many of the subcultures in both worlds have held events in the same places, shared the same personnel, and have held the same ideas of community. KEXP's Martin Douglas talks with Jim Perry, Daniel Makabe, and Damien Abraham about how the art, ethos, and business of professional wrestling and music have always walked hand-in-hand.Support the show: https://www.kexp.org/sound/See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

The wrestling genius Daniel Makabe returns to talk about the epic war between Akira Hokuto and Shinobu Kandori from AJW Dreamslam 4/2/93. We talk about the variety of styles in Joshi wrestling, the beauty of big emotive wrestling and fantasy book a Daniel Makabe version of this match.
Episode 7 was a wild one. In a completely different way, episode 8 is just as wild. My guest this week is The Wrestling Genius, Daniel Makabe. He doesn't have the manic energy of Wes Barkley, but he does have an eclectic taste, and quite a musical journey. Whether it's starting out listening to Aerosmith, starting a Neutral Milk Hotel cover band, or making his own original music in multiple projects, Daniel certainly covers a lot of ground, musically. In this conversation, we talk about a variety of topics, including the CanCon law in Canada, getting bands to play covers they weren't planning to play, and ill fated co-headlining tours...when you were really only there to see the opening act. You can find Daniel all over the internet. Mania Weekend review with special guest Daniel Makabe
Another week another Bigfoot Pro Wrestling Podcast. This week I start the show with a couple great friends to chat...
Kris & David are joined by Daniel Makabe (@danielmakabe) to discuss the week that was January 20-26, 2003. We talk about Hulk Hogan making yet another return to WWE, this time to heat up his angle with Vince McMahon for WrestleMania XIX in Seattle, which Dan attended. We also talk about all of the other WWE news, such as the dependance on big names and part-timers for WrestleMania that still goes on today, The Rock speaking with "Jake T. Icon" about his future in pro wrestling, John Hennigan & Matt Cappotelli winning contracts in the finale of Tough Enough season 3, and a set of house shows in Japan & South Korea, which included Triple H, Stephanie McMahon, Ric Flair, Satoshi Kojima, & Keiji Mutoh all hanging out together in a fantastic story. Speaking of Japan, we go over basically all of the promotions—of which there are many—and we were all watching as much of it as we could at the time, so we have some interesting and detailed takes on what was going on. We also talk about the ECCW Pacific Cup in British Columbia that Dan also attended, plenty of lucha libre goodness that was marred by CMLL going into reruns in the U.S., a lawsuit over Ray Gonzalez in Puerto Rico, IWA Mid-South's 300th show and the shockingly big crowd it drew, and much more. Finally, in TNA, we talk about the weekly PPV featuring Dusty Rhodes beefing with Nikita Koloff, SPORTS ENTERTAINMENT XTREME, & the TNA debut of Raven, among other things. This was a tremendous show, one that features some old friends talking about the shit they loved and hated some 18 years ago. In the first of what will hopefully be a long-running series of interviews with luminaries of the grappling scene, mat maestro Daniel Makabe, in a chat recorded just before this year's Wrestlemania weekend, takes us through a hand-picked mixtape of his favourite puro matches, and tells us how they influenced his career and his thinking. With a diverse array of wrestling styles covered, it's a wide-ranging discussion that was an absolute blast to record, and the tangents on punk and football are very much in keeping with the PPP ethos. We learned a lot, and are sure you will too. Daniel Makabe is one of the best damn wrestlers today. And as it turns out, he’s also a huge music nerd too. I caught up with Makabe this past week and we discussed everything from his recent trip to WXW, isolating for 14 days after the trip, wrestling documentaries, rock documentaries, his bands, his favorite albums, bands that made a major impact on him and a match suggestion in case you’re bored while you stay home. If you’re wondering who the hell this Daniel Makabe guy is go ahead and listen to this episode of Migs vs. The World of Wrestling right here. Then come back to this one.
Hey everybody! Join me here as I talk to “The Wrestling Genius” Daniel Makabe. In something a little different from my other recent interviews Daniel and I only talk about his recent trip to Germany for wXw. We talk about him teaming up with Chris Ridgeway to face BattlArts legends Yuki Ishikawa and Daisuke Ikeda at Inner Circle 9. We then move on to talk about his matches at 16 Carat Gold 2020 and his run for AMBITION 12. This is a fun and unique interview to hear a wrestler talk about some of the most important few days of his career and Daniel tells us how each match felt before, during, and after the bell. This is an interview I will always hold special. So please give this a listen as you won’t be disappointed. --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/aloneinthebasement/message

The boys team up with the Wrestling Genius, 2019 SCI winner Daniel Makabe, to pay tribute to one of the greatest professional wrestlers ever, Dick Beyer, aka The Destroyer!!! The crew cover the remarkable story of The Destroyer, from LA to Portland to Texas to the AWA as Dr. X, and then to Japan for a legendary run where he crossed over to the mainstream. They cover screwjobs, head shavings, riots, crazy angles, blood feuds and rivalries, and everything in between. They look at matches featuring Hiro Matsuda, Dick Slater and Killer Karl Kox, Abdullah the Butcher, Verne Gagne, the freakin' WOLFMAN, and of course a legendary match with long-time rival, Mil Mascaras. We welcome @DanielMakabe on to talk about the enlightenment of modern wrestling fans, calling it in the ring with a legend who doesn't speak English, and what it feels like to touch Timothy Thatcher's body. Check him out in the Scenic City Invitational this weekend, and basically everywhere else in the world in the coming months. This week Ben welcomes Daniel Makabe, one of the top independent wrestlers in the world, to Row 1, Seat 1. Dan discusses the 582 concerts he's been to over his lifetime, and he and Ben discuss bands both known and unknown, as well as his rise as an independent wrestler, and finally his love of soccer. Ben also welcomes @ConfirmedShoot Matt to gloat about his Raptors. A varied show!
Kris & David are joined by Daniel Makabe (@danielmakabe) to discuss the week that was March 6-12, 1998. We talk about the huge power struggle in WCW between Hulk Hogan and the Wolfpac which indirectly caused the firing of Sean Waltman and how that is affecting the promotion as a whole. We also look at about two very “WCW” TV shows as well as New Japan wanting to kill the two promotions' working agreement. We then talk about other New Japan news, the end of the WAR promotion, WCW's issues with Promo Azteca, the Pit Bulls getting arrested, wrestling coming back to Memphis TV, Jim Ross interviewing Mike Tyson on RAW, plus lots and lots more. Tremendous show, so definitely give it a listen!!!!!
