Radio Presenting is one of the best ways to break into the industry.
Vox pops is Latin vox populi, meaning "voice of the people". A vox pops is a short interviews made up with members of the public where random questions are asked to give their views on a particular topic. This can be used for both radio and TV.
I regularly get calls from presenters who are frustrated with their career, they tell me they have done everything to get work and when I ask them if they have done this…..they usually haven’t!
If you're doing this as a TV Presenter you will get work!
In this episode, we made the hard work easy! How to get started in the industry, creating a brand and your showreel to get experience. Your show reel is one of the most important marketing tools you will have as a presenter, make sure you get it right!
Standing by for title roll in 10,9,8......3,2,1!! Working in a Live studio you really have to hit the ground running and work to time.
Working in a Live studio is one of the best experiences as a TV Presenter, the energy is electric. But you have to know how to work with talk-back. I've been in so many screen tests when I ask the presenter if they would like 'open' or 'closed' talk back and they have looked quite blankly to me. You need to know your tools of the trade and the industry jargon. It's one thing to understand what talk-back is, but it is essential to master the technique with the correct practice and direction before going to that all important screen tests.
Brian explains why listening is so important for a TV Presenter when interviewing!
In this episode, I explain how to use your interview questions to control your agenda.
Being able to write your own scripts or PTC's (Piece to camera) is so important for a TV Presenter. Sometimes on a TV channel, the researchers or producer may have already written this for you however, I know a lot of TV Presenters who are on prime time channels who still have to write their own PTC's and often at short notice. This is especially the case if you are the TV Expert. When I was presenting a documentary in The Barossa Valley in Australia, which is one of the most beautiful places I've ever been, when driving along with the crew the producer asked our driver to make an unscheduled stop and for me to write a PTC on The Barossa Valley while they set up the camera equipment. I had around 10 minutes to research from my travel guidebook and write my PTC. It's another skill that the more you do it, the easier it gets.
In this episode, I explain how to read the autocue (teleprompter) without making it look like you're reading. Also some of the apps you can use to practice at home.
In this episode, I explain how to talk to the camera and how to feel comfortable in front of it.
Where do I look is one of the most common questions I get asked from new presenters.
In this episode, Brian explains how to have good movement & posture in front of the camera.
Vocal delivery and tonality are so important as a presenter or speaker. The key is to become aware of how you use your voice when you speak. In this episode, Brian explains how to use your voice to make you more engaging and your audience can understand you easily.
In this episode, Brian explains how 'Charm & Charisma' is important as a TV Presenter / Vlogger and how to gain that all-important confidence.
Brian explains what sort of 'Performance' is required from a presenter, why it's different from acting and how to be yourself.
In this episode, Brian explains the principles of communication and what makes an engaging presenter.
