Now certified as a physician coach, she specializes in helping doctors navigate burnout, perfectionism, imposter syndrome, and the communication challenges that often lead to peer review situations. Dr. Hirsch shares practical strategies for achieving work-life harmony, the critical importance of communication skills in preventing patient safety issues, and how physicians can rediscover meaning in their careers. She also discusses her additional role as medical director for "Healthy Practices," showing how retired physicians can leverage their expertise in new ways while maintaining professional fulfillment. New Zealand's unemployment rate has risen to 5.2 percent - the highest level since 2020 - which means it is pretty grim out there for job seekers. We ask the CEO and founder of Integrity recruitment Ingrid Osborne to share her advice.
Prime Minister Mark Carney says it's time for Canada to recognize a Palestinian state, and will do so officially in September. And: The Trump administration has slapped a new tariff on copper. In the past few weeks, he has made deals with a few countries. The Bank of Canada says that has reduced the risk of a "severe and escalating" global trade war. But none of those deals include an agreement to remove existing sectoral tariffs — a fact that is worrying Canadian steel and aluminum producers. Also: Generation Z is struggling to find work. But that struggle is also driving many to become more financially savvy. New data suggests the group is better at investing and planning for the future than some older generations.Plus: Breathalyzer tests aren't easy for everyone, millions put on tsunami alert after an earthquake off Russia's coast, Conservative leader Pierre Poilievre's fight to get back into the House of Commons, and more.

Microsoft is criticized for allowing China-based engineers to maintain Department of Defense cloud systems. Youth Male Unemployment Rises Amid AI Disruption New data shows young men, including those with college degrees, are increasingly unemployed at rates equal to those without degrees. New Zealand's unemployment rate is up to 5.1 percent and the number of people on the job seeker benefit is also up 11.5 percent since last year with more than 210,000 people on it. But while the government has made no secret it wants people off the job seeker benefit and into work - some commentators say the benefit's settings make it harder for people to move into employment - or earn more money when they do. Money correspondent Susan Edmunds spoke to Lisa Owen.

Hey, mama! You know that whole idea of "work-life balance" that feels just as elusive as the perfect pair of jeans? Well, we're diving into it today with my amazing guest, life coach Rebecca Olson! If you've ever felt like you're drowning in all the hats you wear: career woman, rockstar mom, partner, friend: this one's for you. Rebecca is all about helping ambitious women redefine success, create balance, and actually feel enough in their lives. And let's be real: for so many of us, the pressure to be amazing at everything never seems to let up. Whether it's at work, at home, or just in our own heads, the bar is constantly moving. Sound familiar? Well, good news, babe: there's a better way.In this episode, we're breaking down why balance isn't about doing everything perfectly (because, spoiler alert, that's impossible). Instead, it's about defining success on your terms, creating boundaries that feel good, and finally ditching that sneaky little voice telling you you're not doing enough. Hit play to hear: - Why work-life balance feels impossible: and how to actually create it - The three enough beliefs that will change the way you see your life - How to stop moving the goalpost on yourself and finally feel satisfied - The sneaky ways culture sets us up for burnout: and how to break free - Why redefining success is the key to creating a life you actually love And babe, if you're ready to stop the hustle, feel enough, and actually enjoy the life you're building, this episode is your permission slip. You don't have to do more to be worthy: you're already enough, just as you are. P.S. There's belief the job market is tougher for teens without any experience than ever before. Hawke's Bay local Kaitlin Elsworth has spent two years searching for her first paid job. The 18-year-old says rejection letters usually blame it on a lack of experience. Swivel Careers founder Kate Ross says that's always the hardest aspect for teens - but they shouldn't give up. "I encourage people of that young age to actually walk in and present themselves, because it's far better to be seen in person than it is on paper." Young people on the job seeker benefit say they're barely surviving as they struggle to find work while dealing with threat of losing their only source of income. In August, the government introduced a traffic light system which sanctions those who are not meeting certain obligations. It's managed through a phone call system - but one job seeker says he missed a call from MSD because his phone had been disconnected. Others have told Checkpoint, they are desperately searching for work but there are simply not enough jobs, Bella Craig reports. Minister for Social Development Louise Upston spoke to Lisa Owen.
Stop being the pick me person. You know, the one who tries way to hard but still doesn't get the payoff. In this episode, you'll get the downlow on how to focus on what you want to be known for. There are no accidents. Your fear of success is the only thing blocking you from opportunities. Focusing on what you want to be known for is way different than ambition. It's your differentiator, your personal brand, how you are inspired to make a difference. Once you understand your brand, you can easily determine whether to say yes to an opportunity (even if it feels terrifyingly risky) or whether it's not the best use of your valuable time, talent and energy. When you communicate your brand, others start to bring you opportunities for things you actually want to do. Be clear about what you want, but open to the fact that it can look different that the way you thought it would. You will evolve as a person and your life circumstances will change, but your why will keep you consistently moving toward a life and job you love. Nothing is ever wasted. Every aligned action is helping to build the foundation of the success you want. Since 2017, the Vancouver nonprofit Share has been operating a program that removes roughly 20 tons of trash each month from homeless encampments, parks and other sites in the city. As reported by The Columbian, the Talkin’ Trash program recently received a grant to purchase three large containers and a donated dump truck to improve efficiency and safety for its work crew. But perhaps the biggest impact the program is having is in the lives of the workers it hires, all of whom are either currently experiencing homelessness or transitioning out of it. They receive case management from a social worker to help them secure stable housing while receiving benefits, a salary, work experience and coaching for job interviews - along with other professional skills. Tony Colin is the manager of Talkin’ Trash. He joins us, along with Cassandra Buck, an employee who is currently experiencing homelessness, to share their perspectives about the program, and the challenges facing people who are unhoused.
Back to school time has me thinking about work/life balance. It is always such a crazy time getting the kids back in gear for school, making lunches, taking them to all of their after school activities all while you are trying to run a business! As a new empty nester, I am wishing those days were back, but remember all too well the hustle it took getting everyone out the door in the mornings! Balancing work and family life can be challenging for working moms. Here are five tips to help get you through the school year: 1. Prioritize and Set Boundaries: Clearly define your priorities, both at work and home. Set boundaries to protect your time. When you are home and it's family time, you are not on your phone or computer. 2. Delegate and Ask for Help: Don't hesitate to delegate tasks at work and home. Whether it's asking your partner, hiring help, or getting assistance from coworkers, sharing responsibilities can lighten your load. 3. Use a Flexible Schedule: If possible, arrange a flexible work schedule that accommodates your family's needs. Flexibility, like working from home or adjusting hours, can provide the necessary balance between work and family time. 4. Make Time for Self-Care: Prioritizing your own well-being is crucial. Carve out time for activities that rejuvenate you, whether it's exercise, hobbies, or just relaxing. Taking care of yourself helps you manage stress and be more present in all areas of your life. 5. Stay Organized and Plan Ahead: Use calendars, to-do lists, or apps to keep track of work deadlines, family activities, and personal time. Planning meals, preparing for the next day the night before, and setting routines can help you manage your time more effectively and reduce daily stress. I don't have all of the answers, but once I started to protect my family time and not answer emails or work during that time, my life got easier! Check out the latest episode of the DO IT MY WAY Podcast on how to find work/life balance!

The country's student nurses, too, are nervous about their prospects with one in four recent graduates unable to land a job, Gill Bonnet reports.
