"I was never going to be a nice little white girl" she says. Instead, she became an underground star, had hit records with the 2-Tone band The Selector, became a style-icon, an actor, a TV Presenter - and author. Whilst Margaret Thatcher was reshaping Britain and promoting her very own particular vision of what it meant to be British, in the urban jungle of Coventry, a young woman whose image couldn't be more different than Maggie's, was presenting a radically different vision of what it meant to be British Belinda Magnus, born on 23 October 1953 was given away as the baby of a white unmarried mother and an unknown black father. She was adopted by a white family and re-named Pauline Vickers. Growing up in a completely white neighbourhood as the only person of colour, she experienced first-hand the often racist attitudes of the time. Today we are revisiting one of my favourite chats with Giaan Rooney. According to Giaan, ‘raising kids’ is the answer to the title question. Apart from being a World Champion, Olympic Gold Medallist, TV Presenter, Sports Commentator, Author, Corporate Speaker, Fashion Entrepreneur, Philanthropist, Macadamia Farmer, Mum of Two and Wife of one, Giaan Rooney hasn’t really done much. Nonetheless, we had a good chat. Seriously, this conversation was a fascinating insight into (her) life before, during and after, an Olympic career. Hi Team, I'm tied up with PhD commitments today, so we're revisiting one of my favourite episodes with Farmer Dave (David Graham). See you tomorrow with a new ep. *I wasn't sure what to expect going in to this chat because unlike a lot of people, I knew virtually zero about farmer Dave (my bad) but what ensued, was an hour of captivating conversation with a bloke who's had (and continues to have) a fascinating life. After years navigating all kinds of darkness and eventually finding his way into the light of happiness, purpose, love and connection, he's now helping others do the same. A movie could literally be made about Dave's journey. Here are a few snippets. He was in charge of feeding, cleaning and caring for twenty farm dogs when he was 3. He is the youngest of 11. Was an international model at 19. Grew up on 100,000 acre farm. ‘Came out' on national television (Big Brother). Has travelled to more than 80 countries. Was crippled with depression and anxiety as a teenager. Is a father of five. Currently lives on his farm in the country with twenty-something dogs, guinea pigs, rabbits, dwarf goats, alpacas, ducks, goose and a horse. Created RuffTRACK: a farm-based youth charity that protects kids, keeping them out of prison and up skilling them for a secure future (the story he shares around this is amazing), is an animal behaviourist, TV Presenter, speaker and good bloke doing good things. Enjoy. rufftrack.com@rufftrackSee omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Jeannette is joined by TV presenter and adventurer, Alice Morrison, who shares her remarkable journey from a conventional career as a chief executive to embarking on thrilling adventures, including cycling across Africa and exploring the hidden histories of the Nabataean civilisation in her new TV series, "Arabian Adventures." Jeannette and Alice explore the catalysts for change in Alice's life, her experiences with self-discovery, and the importance of living authentically KEY TAKEAWAYS Life can take unexpected turns, and it's essential to adapt and find new paths. The journey from a conventional career to adventurous pursuits can lead to personal growth and fulfilment. Engaging in physically challenging activities can help reset your mindset, allowing you to focus on the present moment rather than getting lost in worries about the future. It's crucial to understand that your identity is not defined by societal expectations or roles. Embracing your true self and making choices that align with your values is more important than seeking external validation. Negative feedback is a part of life, but it's essential to not let it deter you. Understanding that others' opinions are often reflections of their own experiences can help you maintain your confidence and focus on your goals. BEST MOMENTS "I think really the physical side of it, in a way, is a servant to the exploration side of it." "It's a really interesting time for you to be doing this because of... creating a diverse, equitable part of the world, which is coming from quite a dark place." "What someone else thinks of you is none of your business." "If you keep walking, you'll get to your destination. And it's the same in life." This is the perfect time to get focused on what YOU want to really achieve in your business, career, and life. It's never too late to be BRAVE and BOLD and unlock your inner BRILLIANT. For this episode, David provides you with some excerpts of an interview he has done with the British broadcast journalist and TV presenter Rob Bell. Rob is best known for his programmes about engineering, industrial history and pursuing outdoor adventure. Recently, Rob has started exploring how society and organisations can encourage male friendships and positive male communities. That is what they discuss today. To explore how to get unstuck on your mission, put your purpose into practice and convert your ideas into impact book a discovery call with David here https://calendly.com/david-peoplewithpurpose/30min KEY TAKEAWAYS A lot of business leaders present themselves as unrelenting decision-makers who are always driving forward, as being alphas. Most of the world´s biggest business leaders are not naturally extroverted or charismatic. Great leaders don´t have to posture, they use their words and actions to motivate and lead. Being authentic and vulnerable resonates with others. If you never say sorry, admit someone else´s idea is better than yours or show empathy, you end up isolating others. Maintaining a persona burns a lot of energy, you really do need to be yourself. BEST MOMENTS “I´m not alpha at all.” “People know that they (authentic leaders) mean it because of the way they behave.” “You have to be you to be the best you can.” “How genuine they are gives me goosebumps…it´s important to encourage people to be real.” “Friendship is not needing to worry about who you are and how you come across.” “Radical candour is where you care personally and challenge directly… you are more likely to find that in friendship groups.” EPISODE RESOURCES Do you want free coaching with David?
