What happens when your body suddenly decides to stop making the exact hormone that keeps you alive? Meet Sarah, a badass who trains in Muay Thai, manages ADHD and C-PTSD, and spent months wondering why climbing a single flight of stairs felt like summiting Everest. Before a life-threatening crash landed her in the hospital with a cortisol level of "less than one," Sarah was taking straight shots of soy sauce out of the fridge, dumping salt into her morning water, and getting told by urgent care doctors that her slurred words and sudden vomiting were probably just a "depressive episode." Sarah sits down with the fellas to break down the reality of living with Addison's Disease and how an autoimmune diagnosis forced her into her "Year of Ease"—learning to drop the hustle culture, stop feeling guilty about relaxing on the couch, and give herself permission to slow down. It's raw, messy, deeply relatable, and a vital reminder to advocate fiercely for your own health. In this special 9-week series, listeners will hear from three different groups—GenX paired with Millennials, Gen Z, and Boomers with a mix of the Silent Generation. Their conversations cover a variety of topics including technology, unity in the Church, racism, and parenting. Grouped by similar ages, these 12 individuals share their unique views, opinions, and convictions based on their generational upbringing and views of the world. Ranging from ages 16 to 81, we're covering 5 different generations with 16 different guests. In this episode, Boomers and Silent Generation group share their views on parenting, spanking, the necessity of a college education, what motivates them to determine a career, and whether our society has an unhealthy disposition toward safety. Our guests also have a little fun with music—can they identify the artists of popular songs from the other generations? Susan ChapmanSusan Chapman has been a part of Seacoast's Mount Pleasant Campus for ten years, where she and her husband Roy serve as table leaders at Next Steps and volunteer in the bookstore. Susan's passion is intercessory prayer — a calling that has shaped much of her life and the lives of those around her. Susan was born and raised in Atlanta, Georgia, where she met Roy in high school. They married in 1965 and have built a rich life together over the past 60 years, rooted in faith, family, and friendship. They have two children — a son and a daughter — and warmly claim their son-in-law Joey as their own. Their two grandchildren are a delight: their grandson recently graduated from North Greenville University, and their granddaughter just graduated from middle school. It was in Decatur, Georgia, in the early 1970s that Susan's spiritual journey began to take deep root. Her time in Bible study and God's word brought about changes that were visible to everyone around her — including Roy, who began searching for what was behind them. Looking back, Susan can clearly see God's hand at work throughout her life. In 1977, the family relocated to the Philadelphia area, and once again God's provision was evident. Susan found a wonderful community of people there who remain among her closest and dearest friends to this day. After 28 years, she and Roy moved to Summerville in 2005, where they have been putting down roots ever since. One of Susan's great joys at Next Steps has been discovering just how small the world really is — the unexpected connections, the familiar faces from years past, the strangers who turn out to be anything but. She also treasures staying in touch with lifelong friends now scattered across seven states. In her free time, Susan enjoys reading, jigsaw puzzles, and time with family and friends. She and Roy are devoted University of Georgia football fans, and one of their favorite traditions is spending time at Litchfield Beach, a place they have returned to for over 50 years. When it comes to food, Susan's Southern spread says everything you need to know about her: summer squash, butter beans, tomatoes, iced tea, and optional fried chicken. She still remembers when her aunt's phone number was simply 2524 — before area codes existed — and when ten rolls of toilet paper cost a dollar. Susan Chapman is someone who remembers where she came from, holds tightly to the people she loves, and keeps showing up — in prayer, in service, and in life.Brian LewisBrian Lewis has been a pastor at Seacoast's Mount Pleasant campus for 11 years, leading Men's Ministry and Seniors Ministry. Could one of the biggest solutions to America's housing shortage already be sitting on the market? In this solo episode, inspired by a Patreon community member, Victoria reflects on what it means to be a "lazy hard worker"—someone who swings between periods of doing "nothing" and burning the candle at both ends. Through personal reflections, she explores the difference between moving slowly and being truly stuck, the fears that can fuel procrastination and perfectionism, and how understanding our own temperament, rhythms, and needs can help us find a more sustainable middle path. Jared Pickard traded on the floor of the New York Stock Exchange until his soul, in his words, started screaming for something the city couldn't give him — real connection with nature. He walked off the floor for an unpaid farming apprenticeship, spent a decade building Be Here Farm & Nature into a world-class hospitality dream on 300 acres of Napa-Sonoma mountaintop, and watched it burn to the ground in the 2020 wildfires two days after it finally penciled. What he found in the ashes is the heart of this conversation: that biodynamic farming is less a technique than a practice occurring inside the person — rhythm over force, presence over striving, a life tended the way you'd tend living soil. He mistook the vehicle for the dream once. The first Education Review Office reports with colour-coded tables to depict schools' performance has done little to allay principals' fears. The tables use green, orange and red boxes to signify excellence, doing well, working toward or needing improvement in fourteen areas including reading and writing, and teaching. Some principals have been worried the tables are too simplistic. Education correspondent John Gerritsen reports.

A new survey has found that more than 90 per cent of over-50s would move from larger family homes into a cohousing community if one were available. Cohousing Communities Ireland says a lack of suitable housing is preventing many older people from rightsizing. Cohousing Communities Ireland Chair and Co-founder, Anne Connolly discuss this issue further with Anton.
Want to give up drinking but have no idea where to start? You're in the right place!Everyone tells you sobriety starts on day one. It doesn't. It actually starts before that, in the boring, unglamorous groundwork nobody really talks about. The stuff that happens quietly in the weeks before you ever have a proper "sober day."In this episode, I sit down with Jean McCarthy to talk about that exact groundwork, starting with the big one: choosing your why. It sounds simple. It isn't. Because a why like "I'm doing this for the kids," as noble and understandable as it sounds, can actually be one of the shakiest foundations you can build a sobriety on. It's a why that lives outside you, and when things get hard (and they will), a why that isn't fully your own can be the first thing to crack. We talk about what a sturdier why can look like instead, and the small, practical, almost boring shifts that quietly build a foundation strong enough to hold you when the cravings hit. Things like rearranging your furniture so the sofa doesn't automatically mean "wine o'clock." Creating yourself a proper sober nook, somewhere in the house that's just yours, with nothing to do with a bottle. Taking the wine glasses out of the house completely, so the decision isn't sitting there waiting to be made every single evening. And maybe the hardest shift of all, starting to like yourself again before you feel like you've "earned" it.Jean also gets really honest about her own fears going into this. Including the very real, very human worry that her husband might not want a sober wife. She talks about the moment that fear finally lifted, when she realised that a sober wife is so much better than a dead wife, because if she's honest, that's genuinely the direction things were heading.Oh, and they talk about how their mutual stumpy fingers actually represent their drinking stories quite well!!!So, get comfy and let's get prepared for sober life. Note - We chatted for way too long, so this is Part 1. (Part 2 in-coming with loads more juicy prep tips)

It's hard to believe, but the back-to-school season is almost here. For many families, that means new schedules, new supplies, new clothes, and plenty of new expenses. But the start of a school year doesn't have to bring financial stress or household chaos. With a little planning, wise budgeting, and prayerful preparation, families can begin the year with greater peace and purpose. Crystal Paine, Creator of MoneySavingMom.com and the author of The Time-Saving Mom: How to Juggle a Lot, Enjoy Your Life, and Accomplish What Matters Most. As families prepare for another school year, she offers practical advice for saving money, involving your children, creating better routines, and staying spiritually grounded amid the busyness. Start With the Essentials Back-to-school shopping can get expensive quickly. Between clothes, shoes, backpacks, lunch boxes, crayons, uniforms, and technology, it's easy to feel like everything needs to be purchased at once. There will always be more you could buy, but the better question is, “What do we actually need?” Before heading to the store or filling an online cart, take inventory of what you already have. Then compare that with the school supply list and your family's budget. For families with older children, this can also become a valuable teaching opportunity. Crystal recommends involving teens in the process by giving them a specific back-to-school budget for clothing or supplies. Then they are responsible for deciding what they need, what they want, and how to stay within that amount. Sometimes, they may decide to use some of their own money to buy an extra item. That can be a good thing. It helps them learn that money is limited, that choices have trade-offs, and that budgeting requires wisdom. Look for Package Deals and School Supply Discounts Another way to save time and money is to find out whether your school offers a pre-packaged supply option. Some schools or parent organizations offer supply kits that include everything your child needs for the year. While it may not always be the least expensive option, it's worth comparing. In some cases, buying the package can save money and certainly save time. Instead of driving from store to store searching for specific folders, notebooks, and pencils, you can purchase one package and be done. Crystal also recommends watching for back-to-school deals on supplies, clothing, uniforms, backpacks, lunch boxes, and even laptops. Her site, MoneySavingMom.com, regularly shares deals that can help families stretch their dollars further. Make the Most of Tax-Free Weekends Many states offer tax-free weekends before the school year begins. These can be a helpful way to save on items you were already planning to buy. The key is to prepare before the weekend arrives. Start by checking whether your state offers a tax-free weekend, when it takes place, and which items are included. Every state has different rules. Some include clothing and school supplies, while others may include electronics, computers, or even certain household items. Once you know what qualifies, review your budget. Then decide which purchases make sense for your family. Tax-free weekends can be useful, but they are only a good deal if you are buying things you actually need. The goal is not to spend more simply because something is tax-free. The goal is to steward your resources wisely by saving on planned purchases. Teach Children Financial Wisdom Early Back-to-school shopping can also be a training ground for children. Should you take your kids shopping with you? Crystal says it depends. If your children are still learning self-control and are likely to ask for everything they see, it may be better to shop without them. But that doesn't mean you should avoid the lesson altogether. Instead, begin teaching them in smaller, more manageable ways. Crystal and her family started when their children were very young. Around ages three or four, they gave their kids opportunities to earn money by doing extra chores. Then the children could take that money to the store and choose what they wanted to buy. That simple practice helped them begin learning the value of money. They saw that the money ran out. They learned that choosing one thing often means saying no to something else. And they began to understand that spending decisions matter. Those lessons may seem small, but they can form a foundation for wisdom later in life. Teaching children how to handle a few dollars faithfully can help prepare them to handle larger financial decisions with maturity. Build School-Year Routines Before School Starts One of the biggest mistakes families make is waiting until the night before school begins to establish a new routine. That can lead to stress, rushed mornings, tired kids, and frustrated parents. Crystal recommends beginning a few weeks early. Talk through what the school-year routine will look like. Think realistically about each person in your home. What time does everyone need to wake up? What time do you need to leave? What needs to happen before breakfast? Who needs help getting ready? Then start practicing. Begin waking up closer to the school-year schedule. Practice getting out the door by the time you'll need to leave. Ease your family back into the rhythm before the first day arrives. That transition can make the first week of school much smoother. Prepare the Night Before Anything you can do the night before will help reduce stress the next day. Lay out clothes. Pack lunches. Make sure backpacks are ready. Plan breakfast. Sign forms. Place shoes, jackets, and bags where they need to be. These simple habits can give your family a head start and help mornings feel less frantic. Preparation is not about controlling every detail. It's about creating room for peace, patience, and faithfulness in the ordinary moments of family life. Stay Spiritually Grounded Before the rush begins, remember that God has everything you need for everything He has called you to do. You do not have to carry every worry in your own strength. You can bring your anxieties, responsibilities, and decisions before Him. Back-to-school season can feel busy, but it can also become a fresh opportunity to trust the Lord, serve your family, and steward your resources well. A wise start to the school year is not only about spending less or getting organized. It's about remembering who provides, who sustains, and who gives us wisdom for each day. On Today's Program, Rob Answers Listener Questions: I own several paid-off rental homes in Arkansas that provide good income, but my children live in San Diego and don't plan to move here. I'm concerned that after I'm gone, the properties could be sold quickly for less than they're worth. I'd like their value to benefit my grandchildren for college, starting a business, or buying a home. Should I sell the homes now and place the proceeds in a trust, or is there a better way to plan? I'm 47 and recently started my career after years as a stay-at-home mom. I have no retirement savings, and my employer offers a 403(b) with both pre-tax and Roth options, plus a 3% match after one year. Since we're still working to get out of debt, should I start contributing now or wait for the match? And how much should I contribute? My income is under $1,000 a month, and I'm living paycheck to paycheck. How can I practically build giving, saving, and spending into a budget when money is this tight? And how do I include a small amount for personal enjoyment without derailing the plan? When we get stuck in overthinking, it's easy to believe we need to think our way out of it. But often, what we really need is to slow down and reconnect with ourselves. This somatic meditation for overthinking is a gentle invitation to step out of your busy mind and into your body. Somatic practices help regulate the nervous system by bringing awareness to what's happening inside, helping you feel more grounded, calm, and connected. This meditation is inspired by Inner Relationship Focusing, a practice that encourages you to meet your thoughts, feelings, and sensations with kindness instead of trying to change or fix them. I first discovered it while studying for my Somatic Attachment Therapy course, and I loved how simple, compassionate, and effective it felt. It's become an important part of my own practice and the way I support others. If you're feeling overwhelmed, anxious, or caught in a spiral of overthinking, I hope this meditation offers you a moment to pause, breathe, and come back to yourself. When you're ready, get comfortable, press play, and let me guide you.Work with Carly AnnJoin NewsletterFollow on InstagramMusic:I Don't See the Branches, I See the Leaves by Chris Zabriskie is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 license. https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/Source: http://chriszabriskie.com/dtv/Artist: http://chriszabriskie.com/

My Child Died and the Missing Never Stops: One Truth To Ease The Pain My child died — and the missing never stops. Nobody warns you about that kind of missing. It doesn't soften with a good night's sleep, and it doesn't wait for a good time. It rises up in the cereal aisle, in the quiet of the house, in the middle of the night — and some days "I miss my child so much" is the only sentence you've got. This Saturday, we sit in that missing together — and then turn to one verse that has held grieving mothers through the lowest places they've ever known. It's the same verse a remarkable woman built her whole life around, long before Teresa ever understood what it would one day mean to her. In this episode, you'll discover:
