Every year, Morris Sussex Sports publishes it’s postseason football awards as a way to honor all of the players and memorialize the season that just was. Early on, we would affectionately call this team the “All Unruly Team” and some people still refer to these awards as that. Officially the All Morris Sussex Team, this is our way to tip our cap to the players, coaches, cheerleaders, fans, parents, marching band members and families that have dedicated themselves to this year. The writers at Morris Sussex Sports have poured over video, talked to coaches, compared statistics and read all of our game notes to come up with who we felt deserved recognition. And although we are distinguishing certain athletes with different honors, we recognize that every football deserves a nod. We know that there are players that stuck it out for four years and because their number was wasn’t called, they never stepped onto the varsity field. And although they may not be recognized by in the All Morris Sussex Sports Team, they are just as much of a gladiator as the leading scorer on their team. With that said, we hope every Morris-Sussex football player takes pride in their fellow teammates that are recognized in the 2019 All Morris Sussex Sports Team.

Morris Sussex Sports recently interviewed 19-year-old Millburn local, and inventor of a fascinating new technology that could be on the brink of revolutionizing the baseball world, Elijah Taitel. Elijah is the founder of Extra Base Sports and brain child of the ProVelocity™ Bat [FULL DISCLOSURE: Morris Sussex Sports is a compensated affiliate for ProVelocity Bat and Extra Base Sports). A year ago, Elijah was a high school baseball player for Golda Och Academy in West Orange who also played for the North Jersey Cardinals club team. Throughout his high school years, he was like every other high school athlete trying to improve his craft at being better at his sport. He tried every tool and trick to try to help improve his bat speed but just felt like there had to be a better way to improve his hitting. Being engineer minded (he's a current engineering major at UCONN), he started to whiteboard and sketch some ideas that could help him train to greatly improve the rate of velocity that he swung a bat. He solicited the help of his father, Andrew Taitel and Greg Savettiere, both of whom happen to be engineers and founders of Landice Treadmills in Randolph. Landice is one of the most highly engineered treadmills on the market and the favorite of running enthusiasts and rated #1 by Consumer Reports for fourteen straight years. Elijah, Andrew and Greg started to build prototypes while Elijah would bring it into practical use in his training routine. Over about a year they refined what would become the ProVelocity™ Bat which Elijah would train with at home and in the batting cages. The result was Elijah went from an occasional infield single hit batter to a reliable guy in the line up that hit hard driven doubles, triples, and home runs. From there, the trio would incorporate and get the ProVelocity™ Bat in the hands of leading professional and NCAA batting coaches, pro ball players and high level trainers who are validating Elijah's invention as a reliable training tool to help batters be more effective at the plate. Listen to our podcast interview with Elijah Taitel as he tells his story of inventing the ProVelocity™ Bat and starting his company Extra Base Sports as a college kid and what it's like to be on the ground floor of such an exciting company.

Eleven years ago, we published our first postseason football awards special to honor the top local players. At the time, we affectionately called it the "All Unruly Awards" for no other reason than to differentiate these postseason honors from the All County and All State Awards. We take pride in providing thorough coverage of football for the 37 teams we report on, so we always felt that if a deserving player got snubbed by other postseason awards, then we wanted them to know that the All Unruly Awards would have their back. This is the first year we are naming our postseason football awards the All Morris Sussex Sports Team instead of the All Unruly Team. We feel the "All Unruly Team" is kind of a inside reference that only our long time followers get. In fact, I know there are people reading this that have no idea what I'm talking about. So for now on, our postseason football awards will be now known as the All Morris Sussex Sports Team. We hope you've enjoyed Morris Sussex Sports' coverage of high school sports this season. Every season we try to make our coverage better than the previous year. Our goals is to literally make coverage of high school sports in our area the envy of the state. Our live broadcasts and audio postcasts have been a few of the things that have been big steps in expanding our coverage over the past year. In the spirit of not getting too off track, let's get focused on what we are here for - the All Morris Sussex Sports Football Team. Over the past month, we have poured over all of our notes, watched hours and hours of game footage, reviewed statistics and spoke to coaches, players and fans to try to make sure we could memorialize the 2018 football season as best we could. And before we share with you our top honors, it's important for every football player to know something. Football is like no other sport. It is truly a team sport and every single kid on the roster is important. The best players don't win championships, the best teams do. So we hope if there are players that are not named in our awards, that they can take pride in the teammates that got honored that they had something to do with their success. With that said, it is time that we unveil the 2018 All Morris Sussex Sports Football Team, sponsored by the Orthopedic Institute of New Jersey.
