The mailbag delivers. Listener emails this week include a baseball honeymoon, a Jeopardy-funded wedding (not a typo), and a fan who shipped over APBA game materials and a stack of 1972 Topps cards. That last one matters by the end of the episode. In BP, Jeff and Mark work through the week's oddities: batters watching their own strikeout replays in real time, the phrase "circuit clout" making a comeback, Elmo showing up in the Phillies booth alongside John Kruk, Jazz Chisholm wearing Giancarlo Stanton's pants to break a slump, and a genuinely strange roster trivia note involving the Marlins, Cardinals, and Twins. The main segment is 1988. Specifically, what happens when a pitcher gets so locked in that the league starts to feel likeit's 1968 all over again. Orel Hershiser threw 59 consecutive scoreless innings that year — breaking Don Drysdale's record — and won the Cy Young while doing it. Jeff puts it in context against Bob Gibson's 1968, the last time people seriously asked whether pitchers had broken the sport. The episode closes with Wax Pack Heroes, using the 1972 Topps cards the listener sent in. 00:00 Cold Open and Welcome 00:18 On Location and Mariners Talk 01:31 Mailbag Honeymoon Baseball Stories 04:15 APBA Surprise and Wax Packs 07:19 BP Big Screens and Circuit Clouts 09:11 Elmo in the Broadcast Booth 10:52 Jazz Chisholm Wears Stantons Pants 13:22 Weird MLB Three Team Trivia 15:01 NCIS New Orleans Baseball Cameos 16:54 Year of the Pitcher Part Deux 44:35 Wax PackHeroes 01:07:10 Thanks Plugs Signoff Connect With Us YouTube: www.youtube.com/@twostrikenoise Twitch: https://www.twitch.tv/twostrikenoise BlueSky: @twostrikenoise.bsky.social Email: twostrikenoise@gmail.com Support a Great Cause: Don't let your common cards collect dust! One of the biggest clouds hanging over the 2026 Major League Baseball season is the soon-to-be-expiring collective bargaining agreement between the MLB Players Association and the 30 team owners. The animosity between both sides, after comments were reported in the media, has many fans wondering whether a possible work stoppage could begin on December 1st when the deal expires. On this episode of the Baseball Bar-B-Cast, Jake Mintz and Jordan Shusterman discuss the first proposals exchanged this week between the owners and the players, most notably the owners' desire to implement a salary cap. While it is an encouraging sign that both sides are negotiating earlier than expected, are the differences between the two sides too large to overcome? Later, Jake and Jordan discuss the incredible month of May from Philadelphia Phillies starter Cristopher Sánchez, who is currently riding a historic scoreless innings streak. They also highlight the other outstanding starters in the Senior Circuit who are putting together great seasons and could make NL Cy Young voting extremely difficult. Griffin Warner talk betting for Friday. Griffin Warner is back on the What I Bet podcast with one of the most loaded Friday cards of the season, covering a Champions League final preview, a potential series-ending Game 5 in the NHL Eastern Conference Finals, and a full fourteen-game Major League Baseball slate from first pitch to the night's marquee showdown in Los Angeles. Warner opens with a quick look at Arsenal and PSG preparing to meet in Hungary on Saturday, noting that both clubs play a possession-dominant style that would make the final an exercise in control and patience. The hockey segment takes center stage early as Warner dissects the situation facing the Montreal Canadiens, who arrived in Carolina as a plus 199 money line underdog trying to avoid elimination after a dominant Game 1 gave way to three straight losses. He walks through the series odds, the compressed total of 5.5 at nearly even juice, and the possession dynamics that have kept Montreal trapped in their own zone, comparing Carolina's shot-volume approach to the ball-control philosophy of the two Champions League finalists. His clearest hockey lean is the under, supported by a secondary interest in Montreal's puck line at plus 1.5. The baseball analysis begins with Atlanta and Grant Holmes visiting Cincinnati and Chris Paddock, where Warner leans over, before working through Lucas Giolito's road start for San Diego against Washington and the potential value in the Nationals as a home underdog given their surprising offensive output. Pittsburgh and the long-awaited return of Jared Jones from internal brace surgery draws a careful look against Taj Bradley and Minnesota, with Warner favoring the under given Jones's extended absence and bullpen volatility on both sides. The Miami Marlins and Max Meyer visiting Freddy Peralta and the Mets produce an under lean consistent with a matchup Warner faded successfully the previous week. He moves through Walbert Ureña and Los Angeles at Tampa, Boston's minor league call-up visiting Cleveland and Slade Cecconi, Shōta Imanaga and the Cubs visiting St. Louis, Troy Melton and a struggling Detroit team road-favored against the White Sox and Erick Fedde, Stephen Kolek on a post-complete-game fade against MacKenzie Gore in Texas, Coleman Crow on the road for Milwaukee in Houston against Kai-Wei Teng, Logan Webb and the Giants visiting Colorado where Warner leans over and toward the Rockies, Carlos Rodón and the Yankees at the Sacramento Athletics and Luis Severino, Zac Gallen and Arizona at Seattle in a stay-away situation, and finally Zach Wheeler and the Phillies arriving in Los Angeles as plus 103 road underdogs against Justin Wrobleski, where Warner leans to Philadelphia as a coin-flip spot with positive expected value. The What I Bet Best Bet lands on the Cleveland Guardians and Slade Cecconi at minus 115, a number that climbed from minus 113 during the recording session as confirmation of the direction. The Mets are officially back to being consistent again… unfortunately it's the bad kind of consistency. After winning 5 of 6 and giving fans a tiny little taste of hope, the Mets responded by immediately losing 5 of 6, including getting swept in Miami by the Marlins — which should honestly qualify as emotional terrorism at this point — and then dropping 2 of 3 at HOME to the Reds because apparently Citi Field is now a charity organization for mediocre baseball teams. So this week, Farace, Rodriguez, and Producer Joe try to figure out whether this team actually has another turnaround in them… or if Mets fans are just being dragged through another 162-game trust exercise. This weekend also brings one of the weirdest and most Mets celebrations imaginable: Bobby Valentine Day. Yes, fans will receive disguises in honor of Bobby V's legendary fake mustache dugout return, proving once again that no franchise in sports celebrates chaos quite like the Mets. On top of that, the Mets Hall of Fame ceremony honors Carlos Beltran, Lee Mazzilli, and Bobby Valentine himself on Saturday at Citi Field. We'll also dive into Jose Reyes naming his Top 5 Mets nemesis list and give our own. Braves? Phillies? Chipper Jones? The entire state of Florida? We're opening old wounds tonight.Meanwhile, Juan Soto has basically become the entire offense by himself, smashing 8 home runs over his last 12 games while the rest of the lineup occasionally shows up like substitute teachers. If Soto cools off for even 48 hours, somebody may need to legally classify this offense as missing persons. On the pitching side, McLean has hit a rough patch, and the Mets continue struggling with consistency from both the rotation and bullpen. Yet somehow… despite all the frustration, this team currently has the SAME record as the 2024 Mets team that finished with 89 wins. So now the question becomes: does this roster actually have another run in them or are we all just coping? We'll also get into early trade deadline chatter after Jon Heyman said he wouldn't be shocked if the Mets eventually consider moving Francisco Lindor. Mets Twitter handled that news very calmly and rationally of course. Definitely no overreactions there.Plus:* Opening Day Mets baseball card set opening* Grading the Opening Day roster* Producer Joe preparing emotionally for ANOTHER west coast trip because apparently MLB thinks the Mets live in California now* And the show's long-standing goal remains the same: get this team back to .500 by the All-Star break… even if fans have every right to still be furious watching this team lose to bad baseball clubs.Next up: 3 against the Marlins at Citi Field before heading to Seattle and San Diego for what feels like the 800th west coast trip of the season.Baseball. Chaos. Sarcasm. Soundboard abuse. Mets pain.Just another episode of The Put it in the Books Show.LGM.#PiitB #Mets
