Cutdown week got loud in Charlotte. On Tuesday, September 1, the Carolina Panthers put four voices at the podium — GM Dan Morgan, head coach Dave Canales, new linebacker Bobby Okereke, and tight end Tommy Tremble — and between them they explained a 72-hour stretch that reshaped two position groups and sent a 2024 third-round pick to the New York Jets. Two Growls One Roar breaks down every answer, every quote, and what we think it all really means with 12 days to go before the Chicago Bears come to Bank of America Stadium. We start with the Trevin Wallace decision. Canales called the Wallace–Claudin Cherelus competition "neck and neck" and said Cherelus "had an edge" on special teams. Morgan, who watched tape with Wallace in his office "multiple times," said the call was difficult but pointed to the Okereke signing, Tyrel Dodson on the practice squad, and rookie Jackson Kuwatch as the reasons he feels good about the room. Then, unprompted, Morgan went further: "You're not going to hit every pick... that's on me to go back and look at our processes." We talk about what that self-critique signals in year three of his tenure.Bobby Okereke's first day in the building was a masterclass in saying the right things. The eight-year vet explained why he waited until September to sign, how Pete Hansen and the Stanford connection sealed it, and why he's already told Devin Lloyd "it's his show" — no green dot expectations. He also revealed he talked to Thomas Davis about wearing No. 58 and is "working something out" on the price. Then there's the tight end room. Morgan and Canales both defended keeping five, but Morgan added "not to say that something couldn't change," and Canales admitted they still need to see how Darren Waller "handles a full volume of a week." Waller worked with a trainer on the side Tuesday. Tommy Tremble, meanwhile, is out here lobbying for "05 personnel" and calling Felipe Franks "a dog."Haynes King is on the 53, and Canales answered the package question with two words: "Anything's possible." He called King "a true 4.47 guy" and "a 25-year-old grown man," and Morgan said flatly they won't expose him to waivers. We read between the lines. We also cover the offensive line reshuffle — Chandler Zavala out for waiver claim Corey Bullock, then back on the practice squad, with both starting tackles on IR — the TeRah Edwards trade, the 13-personnel arms race Canales tied directly to adding coverage linebackers, Chuba Hubbard and Xavier Legette returning to practice, Derrick Brown and Bobby Brown III finishing practice after early exits, and the full practice squad list. Finally, our Hot Topics: eight takes ranked hot, warm, and watch, each backed by a quote from today's pressers. Was the Wallace cut a football decision or a message? Is the King package real? Is Tyrel Dodson one injury away from starting? Let us know where we're wrong in the comments.Subscribe for daily Panthers coverage through Bears week, plus Hornets and Gamecocks all season long. Full written breakdown at twogrowlsoneroar.com.

The 53-man roster didn't even last 24 hours before Carolina started tinkering again. On this episode of Two Growls One Roar, we're breaking down every move the Panthers made the day after final cuts — and there's more here than you'd think for a Monday in late August. We start with the practice squad, where 12 players cleared waivers and walked right back into the building. Four of them actually matter for this roster: David Moore, cut for John Metchie III just a day earlier, lands back with the team on the strength of his relationship with Dave Canales going back to Seattle and Tampa Bay. Isaiah Simmons, the former eighth-overall pick, is back for a third season as one of the most versatile chess pieces on the roster. Jake Curhan adds more offensive line depth at a position that's already thin behind the injuries to Ikem Ekwonu and Taylor Moton. And Cam Gill returns for special-teams and pass-rush depth. We also touch on the eight rookies and young players filling out the rest of the 16-man squad, plus the international pathway exemption that let Carolina add linebacker Maz Mwansa without it counting against that number — something we explained in detail in our last episode's rules primer. From there, Bobby Okereke's deal is officially signed, and we get into why that's a real add: four of his last five seasons have topped 130 tackles, and he immediately becomes the second-most accomplished linebacker on the roster next to Devin Lloyd. But that signing wasn't free — Carolina had to place backup guard Brady Christensen, still working back from last October's torn Achilles, on injured reserve to make room. Then we walk through the Panthers' first waiver claim of the season: center Corey Bullock off Baltimore's roster, in exchange for waiving Chandler Zavala, Carolina's own 2023 fourth-round pick. It's a full-circle moment on the rules we broke down last episode — Bullock going through the actual waiver process instead of being released outright. We also flag that two of Carolina's own cuts from Sunday didn't sit on the wire long: Nick Samac was claimed by the Vikings and Trevin Wallace was claimed by the Jets, both landing directly on new 53-man rosters. We close with the names you'll see floating around on unofficial trackers that the team itself hasn't confirmed — linebacker Tyrel Dodson, defensive tackle Anthony Goodlow, and offensive lineman Torricelli Simpkins III, a Charlotte native with local ties. We give you the stats and context on all three, but we're clear about the caveat: until Panthers.com actually announces it, this is smoke, not fire.If you want to actually understand how a roster gets built in the days after cutdown — not just who made it, but who's quietly cycling through behind the scenes — this is the episode. Subscribe for more Panthers, Hornets, and Gamecocks coverage, and drop a comment if you think any of those unconfirmed names actually stick.

The Panthers are down to 53, and this one didn't go quietly. On this episode of Two Growls One Roar, we're breaking down every move Carolina made across the two-day cutdown — from Saturday's first wave all the way through Sunday night's final trim to the regular season roster limit. Before we even get into who made the team, we slow down and explain the mechanics that actually govern this week in the NFL, because half the confusion fans have on cutdown day comes from not knowing the rules. We walk through the real difference between a player being waived versus released — it comes down to accrued seasons, and it's why guys like Kyle Trask and David Moore hit free agency immediately while Trevin Wallace and Ja'seem Reed had to clear waivers first. From there we get into how the 16-man practice squad actually works, including the rule that lets teams carry up to six true veterans with no cap on their NFL experience. And we close the rules segment with the gameday elevation rule — the one that trips people up the most — where a practice squad player can be activated for a game up to three times per season without ever touching the 53, but a fourth activation means he has to be signed outright.Once the ground rules are set, we get into the actual football. Carolina swung a deadline-day trade, sending a 2028 sixth-round pick to the Chargers for defensive tackle TeRah Edwards, which tells you everything about how thin that D-line got once Tershawn Wharton landed on reserve/PUP. We go position by position through the full 53 — quarterback, running back, wide receiver, tight end, and a very well-stocked offensive line on offense; defensive line, outside linebacker, linebacker, cornerback, and safety on defense; plus the specialists rounding things out.We spend extra time on the two calls that generated the most buzz: Trevin Wallace getting waived at linebacker with Bobby Okereke's addition squeezing the room, and John Metchie III beating out veteran David Moore at receiver, largely on the strength of his chemistry with Bryce Young from their Alabama days. We also talk through why keeping both tackles' insurance policies — Rasheed Walker and rookie Monroe Freeling — matters so much with Ikem Ekwonu and Taylor Moton both starting the year on reserve lists, and who's actually in the mix to handle return duties with Trevor Etienne opening the season on IR.Then we run the full transaction log in order — every waive, every release, every reserve list move from both cutdown days — so you've got the complete paper trail in one place. If you're trying to actually understand this roster heading into Week 1, not just see a list of names, this is the episode. Subscribe for more Panthers, Hornets, and Gamecocks coverage all season long, and drop your own 53-man predictions in the comments — let's see who called it.

Tune in here to this Monday's edition of the Brett Winterble Show! Brett kicks off the program by talking about the political battles surrounding figures like Abdul El-Sayed and the Democratic Socialists of America, while explaining why he feels increasingly optimistic about the direction of the country. Brett looks back at the historic events of 1989, when movements across Eastern Europe challenged communist governments and helped bring down the Berlin Wall and the Iron Curtain. He highlights the roles played by ordinary citizens, Ronald Reagan, Margaret Thatcher, Pope John Paul II, and others in a broader movement for freedom and self-determination. Bo Thompson from Good Morning BT is also here for this Wednesday episode of Crossing the Streams. Brett and Bo talk about the crowded South Carolina Senate race, including the potential for a runoff between Darlene Graham and Ralph Norman and what could happen in the final weeks of the campaign. Bo also shares his thoughts on the upcoming NBA schedule, including the Hornets’ continued absence from the Christmas Day lineup and LaMelo Ball potentially playing on Christmas after being traded from Charlotte. Brett and Bo discuss whether the Hornets could eventually become an attractive destination for Steph Curry as he considers the later stages of his career. Bo also shares what he and Beth Troutman have coming up tomorrow on Good Morning BT, including coverage of the South Carolina Senate race, the potential runoff, campaign reactions, and the latest developments following election night. Bryce Young is entering Year 4 with his ceiling still officially "unknown" — and both Dave Canales and Brandt Tillis made that clear in back-to-back pressers at training camp. Canales broke down exactly why Bryce is playing faster this camp: eliminating reads before the snap, throwing with real anticipation, and building the kind of chemistry with Tommy Tremble that's produced explosive plays on vertical concepts multiple practices in a row. Then Tillis stepped up and doubled down — "he ascended last year, and there's still room for him to ascend" — while shutting down any real details on where extension talks stand, saying those conversations stay internal between the organization and Bryce's camp. That wasn't the only storyline from camp. Canales gave the clearest injury update yet, confirming Mitchell Evans, Tommy Tremble, Bobby Brown, and Robert Hunt are all back on the field, and laid out the plan for Thursday's preseason opener — no starters, including Monroe Freeling, with Kenny Pickett getting the start. Tillis also opened up about how analytics shape roster construction, why Carolina's roster skews so young, and where things stand with Jaycee Horn and Mike Jackson heading into contract-relevant seasons.Rounding it out, Princely Umanmielen delivered one of the most personal interviews of camp — crediting a renewed faith and full lifestyle overhaul for his growth, explaining why he's logged off social media until he makes a Pro Bowl, and sharing how he comforted Nic Scourton in the moment his teammate went down with a season-ending injury. We're covering every angle of Panthers training camp all summer — practice reports, injury tracking, roster battles, and the road to Thursday's opener.
