In 2021, Sister Monica Clare went viral on TikTok. From the account @nunsenseforthepeople, her video about a wild turkey that was menacing the grounds of the convent struck a chord and unexpectedly launched a following more than 200k people eager to learn more about the practical and spiritual lives of contemporary nuns. #NunTok was born, spurring both sincere conversations about prayer and a relentless, tongue-in-cheek campaign for Sister Monica Clare to unveil her skincare routine.Today, Sister Monica Clare is an Episcopal nun and the sister Superior at the Community of St. John the Baptist in Mendham, New Jersey; but as she relates in her forthcoming memoir, A CHANGE OF HABIT: Leaving Behind My Husband, Career, and Everything I Owned to Become a Nun (Crown & Sugar23; April 29, 2025), her path to the spiritual life was long, winding, and entirely relatable.Growing up in a chaotic and impoverished home in Georgia, Claudette Powell's (Sister Monica's lay name) childhood was spent escaping bill collectors and her unreliable father's abuse. As a little girl, she saw Audrey Hepburn in A Nun's Story and thought, that's me. She found herself drawn to the beauty and ritual of the church, wishing that her life could be filled with such orderliness and belonging.Yet for most of her life, Claudette pushed this spiritual calling away. Instead, she poured her energy into her many talents, trying to become someone worthy of the acceptance she longed for deeply: from acting school at NYU, to performing comedy with The Groundlings Sunday Company and a Hollywood career in film advertising, to her marriage. And yet, she never could seem to find someplace she felt she belonged. In the wake of a devastating divorce, Claudette found herself seriously considering a life in the church. After a decade of therapy, discernment, and paying off her debts, Sister Monica Clare finally stood nervously straightening her habit as she walked into an Episcopal convent, preparing to live alongside eleven other sisters who'd taken the same vow of poverty and celibacy. But joining the community was only the first step, thriving in monastic life would be another challenge altogether. Whether it was getting lost in the maze-like convent, speaking at the wrong time, or messing up the intricate rituals in service, Sister Monica Clare couldn't shake the anxiety and imposter syndrome that had dogged her whole life. In fact, she discovered that the learning curve can be extra steep when doing something you love. Yet through faith and patience, Sister Monica began to feel at home at the convent, first clumsily and then more easily, finding family within her fellow sisters and eventually rising to the head role of Sister Superior.Equally funny and inspiring, A CHANGE OF HABIT reveals how much better life can be when we stop trying to prove our worth to ourselves and others, and instead embrace ourselves for who truly are. A meditation on hope and belonging, A CHANGE OF HABIT is a beautiful encapsulation of faith in the modern world and the tangible ways in which we can embrace spirituality and connection in our lives.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/arroe-collins-like-it-s-live--4113802/support.

Could New Jersey go red in 2024? 4:05pm- During cross-examination in the Donald Trump “hush money” trial, witness Michael Cohen conceded that he once stole $30,000 from his former employer, the Trump Organization. CNN senior legal analyst Elie Honig noted that larceny is “more serious of a crime than falsifying business records.” 4:15pm- Reporting from inside the courthouse, New York Times journalist Jonah Bromwich writes: “[Judge Juan Merchan orders that the courtroom be cleared after scolding [former Michael Cohen attorney Robert] Costello.” Several minutes later, journalists and the jury returned to the courtroom. You can read updates, as they occur, here: https://www.nytimes.com/live/2024/05/20/nyregion/trump-trial-hush-money?smid=url-share#11174b7d-d09d-59f9-9c55-99e379a28dab 4:30pm- David Gelman—Criminal Defense Attorney & Surrogate for Donald Trump's Legal Team—joins The Rich Zeoli Show to discuss former Trump attorney Michael Cohen's disastrous testimony during cross-examination. Gelman explains that Cohen's credibility has been completely destroyed, especially after admitting to stealing tens-of-thousands of dollars from the Trump Organization. So, what happens next? Any element of reasonable doubt mandates the jury rule “not guilty”—and clearly there is a lot of doubt. 4:50pm- Ben Affleck and Jennifer Lopez are getting divorced…again!? 5:05pm- After court concluded on Monday, former President Donald Trump told members of the press that the “hush money” trial is a disaster for the country and called on Judge Juan Merchan to dismiss the case immediately. 5:10pm- During cross-examination in the Donald Trump “hush money” trial, witness Michael Cohen conceded that he once stole $30,000 from his former employer, the Trump Organization. CNN senior legal analyst Elie Honig noted that larceny is “more serious of a crime than falsifying business records.” How could any member of the jury view Cohen as a credible witness? 5:20pm- Reporting from inside the courthouse, New York Times journalist Jonah Bromwich writes: “The judge says he will reserve his decision on whether to dismiss the case for tomorrow. We are done with another long day of court. The prosecution rested its case against Trump today, and the defense got through a significant portion of its own. If things go according to schedule, the defense will rest tomorrow, and the jury will be excused for the rest of the week, returning after the holiday weekend to hear closing arguments.” You can read more updates here: https://www.nytimes.com/live/2024/05/20/nyregion/trump-trial-hush-money?smid=url-share#ee4f4407-bdd5-55d9-b1cc-8b49e99df75a 5:40pm- Steven Bucci—Visiting Fellow at the Heritage Foundation's Phillip N. Truluck Center for Leadership Development—joins The Rich Zeoli Show to discuss news that Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi was killed in a helicopter crash on Sunday. Earlier today, Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin explicitly stated: “the United States had no part to play in that crash.” Bucci notes that Iran may try to blame America or Israel—though, it seems pretty clear this was the result of aged equipment and poor flying conditions. Could this death lead to revolution? Or will Ayatollah Ali Khamenei successfully stifle dissent? Bucci served America for three decades as an Army Special Forces officer and top Pentagon official. 6:05pm- Kansas City Chiefs kicker Harrison Butker has received outsized media attention after delivering the commencement address at Benedictine College—where he argued the importance of having both parents in the home. Musician and Bandleader, Alex Mendham of the illustrious Alex Mendham and His Orchestra graces the show to talk about the struggles of getting a niche group together, the successes, his musical inspirations, and what's next for this group which has become a mainstay on the BBC radio, and stages worldwide.Mesmerised from a young age by the music of a forgotten time, Essex-born musician, singer, and lyricist Alex Mendham made a name for himself, having burst onto the scene by forming his own orchestra at the tender age of just 20 (and refusing to slow down ever since!). Alex Mendham spent his youth studying the saxophone and meeting the last surviving dance band musicians from the golden era, living links to the past, including the virtuoso Al Gallodoro, a star of 1920s Paul Whiteman fame. He also spent several years as protégé to Bob Wilber, himself a student of Sidney Bechet. After the initial performances with his Orchestra, Alex soon realised what was needed was an authentic vocalist and frontman. He exchanged the saxophone for a conductor's baton and the rest as they say - is history. Roar with Shari. . . All Things Justice for Women & Survivors
I'm talking to Attorney Greg Gianforcaro who is a fierce fighter against the Catholic Church and the priests that sexually abused Greg's childhood friends. Greg goes against the Catholic Church who Karney calls, "perpetrators by proxy".Attorney and former altar boy as a child, Gianforcaro decided to represent many of his friends after they came forward as adults with allegations of sexual abuse by a priest at the St. James Parish in Mendham. It turned out to be not just a few cases, but dozens of his friends alleging abuse by Father James Hanley during his 10 years as a priest from 1973 to 1982. Hanley was never charged because the criminal statute of limitations had expired in all of the cases. “Priests do not become pedophiles, pedophiles become priests. In their role as priests for centuries, they had unfettered access to children,” says Gianforcaro. Listen to Greg and Shari Karney talk legal shop and dig into the details on the law for adult survivors of child sexual abuse and pedophilia within a religious context and the Catholic Church. Shari Karney is a victims' rights attorney who represents victims of child sexual abuse, sexual assault, rape, and sexual harassment. Currently, Karney and the nonprofit, Roar As One™ are working on educating Congress on the need to eliminate all statutes of limitations for survivors of child sexual abuse. There should be no time limits for justice for survivors of child sexual abuse. Children so preyed on, exploited, and cruelly harmed should have human and civil rights. Those who use power under a religious cloak should not be able to use their power to sexually abuse young helpless children. Karney believes that every victim deserves to have their voice heard. Through empowering victims of child sexual abuse, we stop the vicious generational cycle.

"Time rolls by the clock don't stop / I wish I had a few more drops of the good stuff, the good times / Oh, but they just keep on flying right on by like it ain't nothing / Wish I had me a pause button / Moments like those, Lord knows I'd hit it and give myself five more minutes." Found myself singing this song a lot this week as summer faded into fall and the kids went back to school. Time is going by so fast - I wish I could just pause it or at least slow it down. How about you? One day, my kids were young - and now, they are almost grown and gone! This week at Mendham Hills - how to buy yourself five more minutes (and how to spend them!).
How would you rate your sense of direction? When you're driving, do you always seem to know where to go? Or do you get lost going one town over? Remember the days of before GPS, when you would have to stop and ask for directions? Those were the worst. Now, thanks to my iPhone, I'm never lost. I might not know where I am, but with a few words ("Siri get directions for...") I'll be all set and back on course. For many of us, we wish we had a GPS for life. At times, we find our lives heading in a completely different direction then what we thought. We find ourselves asking the question, "How did I get here and where I am going?" Join us this Sunday at MHCC as we look to a God who is always directing and guiding, even when we are lost and unsure of the path to take.
Host Anthony Desiato returns to It'z Vintage in Mendham, NJ, for a deep dive into the fascinating world of custom toys with store owner and action figure customizer Allen Baus. (Encore presentation. Originally aired as an episode of Flat Squirrel Tales on 7/26/17.)
Almost everyone makes New Year's resolutions. As resolution, as commonly defined, is a firm decision to stop or start doing something. The problem is, for most of us, that decision turns out to not be all that firm. What if this year, we replace resolutions with a revolution - a literal overthrow and replacement of the "old you." Is that even possible? This New Year's Sunday at Mendham Hills, we will present to you the tools and an incredible new free gift to prepare you for the battle. Too much is at stake for all of us to simply roll into 2018 without a plan for change - come this Sunday and discover yours.

"X" resembles the unexpected and the anomalous. It is the unknown, the winner of the losers bracket, and the outcast of the incrowd. It is the variable that seems as if it has no vitality. But when the true meaning is discovered, it is, in fact, extremely powerful, leaving a person oblivious of what to expect. "Phaze" signifies the phases encountered throughout life that fuse together with the inability to be fazed. http://YouTube.com/XPhazeTV http://SoundCloud.com/XPhaze
