Rise Up Mentoring Podcast: Advice to Help You Succeed

In this first episode of season 2, I thought it would be good to have a conversation with my former colleague Tawanda Kelly and co-host Kacia Kyle about mentoring. We talk about how you should go about finding a mentor and how mentors add value. Our conversation ranges from different types of mentors, creating a list of topics to cover with a mentor, and also how to break up with a mentor.

In this episode, I had the opportunity to speak with Eric Veltz. Eric Veltz is a multi millionaire in the making that is taking full advantage of his income and investing it in real estate. He has taken some time out of his busy schedule to speak to you today. Eric will explain how his way of thinking has been influenced by his network of mentors and what he did with their advice.

This week, I had the opportunity to speak with Ramon Ray of Smart Hustle Magazine. Ramon is a four time entrepreneur and has established himself as an expert on personal branding. Joining Ramon for this interview is Kacia Kyle and Amber Diehl. Kacia Kyle is a senior at the University of Houston planning to become a Human Resources Specialist. Amber Diehl is a junior finance major at Prairie View A&M University. Welcome to the New Year! In this episode I share with our network of listeners three basics areas to focus on when it is time to make a first impression in the world of business. For the month of January, I'm adding a shorter, 10 min format to the lineup of podcasts. I will be alternating between the 30 minutes interviews with my mentoring associates and my 10 minutes individual advice to our network of listeners. In this episode, I sat down with Texas Railroad Commissioner Ryan Sitton and Chloe Lins, a senior from the University of South Carolina to get Ryan's advice on how to overcome failure and achieve success. Ryan is a graduate of Texas A&M University and as I mentioned earlier..... he currently serves as the Texas Railroad Commissioner helping to regulate the energy industry in Texas. But in between graduating college just a "few" years ago and now serving as the Texas Railroad Commissioner, Ryan worked for several Oil & Gas companies and even started a multi-million dollar company along the way.

I'm trying something new this week after taking a break for Thanksgiving. You get to hear the answers we provided for a panel discussion that I hosted two weeks ago with approximately 50 students from the Texas A&M Engineering Academy Program based at the Spring Branch location of Houston Community College. This week's co-hosts are William Minter, VP of Implementation Services for PinnacleART and Prince Gammage from LyondellBasell is returning alongside William. In this episode, we address the topics of how to balance schoolwork with jobs and extracurricular activities, why GPA is important, how to avoid procrastination, and whether or not introverts can be successful in corporate america.

Mr. Nigel Brown and Ms. Kacia Kyle talk shop about the frustrations of working on teams with the wrong individuals and how they now choose their teams for school projects and side businesses. My mentee co-host today is Kacia Kyle, a senior at the University of Houston planning to become an Human Resources Specialist. She shares a few of the struggles she's had working with teams and shares what she has learned over the past few years. My mentor co-hose today is Nigel Brown of Prosper, TX. He currently works as a Management Consultant at Accenture but has also worked for companies such as Air Products, Donaldson, and Kraft Foods. She is an accomplished engineer that graduated from Prairie View A&M University and attended on a full ride scholarship. As an engineer, she has many years of experience being the only woman in the room and somehow getting everyone to love her.

Ms. Hope Young and Carrington Johnson give students tips on how to navigate college resources, explain why GPA matters, and the advantages of creating a 5 year plan for your life.
