In this episode of Business Coaching Secrets, host Karl Bryan flies solo while Rode Dog is away, answering listener questions on where to find the best coaching clients, impressing business owners at networking events, and mastering the art of consistency to drive business coaching success. Karl packs the episode with actionable insights, practical frameworks (like the 10/10 frame), and real-world examples any coach can use to grow their practice and deliver more value to clients. Key Topics Covered The Power of Frame Control in Coaching Relationships Karl explains the importance of spending 10% of your meeting time in an "upper frame," 10% in a "lower frame," and the majority—80%—in an "equal frame" when interacting with potential clients. This dynamic helps build respect and trust, especially when dealing with more successful business owners. Best Sources for New Coaching Clients He breaks down multiple lead generation avenues, emphasizing that your "best client is you five years ago"—target businesses where you can deeply relate to their challenges. Karl lists practical places to find prospects, including businesses advertising locally, new business registries, joint venture partners, and business networking groups. How to Impress at Networking Events Karl shares tactics for being memorable: always have three "bombs" (unique, value-driven statements) to drop in conversation, use storytelling with conflict and a clear outcome, and focus on effort and process over just touting your success. Consistency as the Ultimate Key to Success He doubles down on the idea that consistency and discipline—not luck—attract ideal clients. Demonstrating reliability in your marketing, networking, and delivery helps draw high-caliber, growth-minded clients who value the same traits. Diagnosing and Fixing High Revenue, Low Profit Businesses Finally, Karl walks through a blueprint for helping businesses with strong top-line sales but weak profit margins. He advocates for a methodical review of all expenses, process improvements, pricing strategies, and creating recurring revenue models. Notable Quotes "Your best client is always going to be you five years ago." "To be valuable, you have to be memorable." "Success does not belong to the lucky; it belongs to the focused." "Consistency and discipline—if you want those clients, you have to demonstrate those traits first." "If you want to influence business owners, make them envious of who you are, not what you have." Actionable Takeaways Identify Your Ideal Client: Start with the person you were five years ago—target those business owners, as you'll understand their pain points and can speak their language. Expand Your Lead Generation: Look beyond social media—search for businesses advertising locally, check new business registries, join networking organizations like BNI or the Chamber of Commerce, and build joint venture partnerships. Impress Through Value and Storytelling: Come prepared to every networking event with three impactful concepts or stories that make people say, "Wow, I've never heard it explained like that before." Practice Relentless Consistency: Show up with discipline—whether it's weekly live events, ongoing content, or daily outreach. Your consistency will become your magnet for disciplined, high-value clients. When Solving Low Profit Margins: Go through each expense line to determine if it helps win or keep a client—if not, cut it. Review pricing, renegotiate with vendors, and design a recurring revenue model. Homework for Coaches: Pick a niche and list 50 ways you can help that type of business. This will boost your focus, readiness, and enthusiasm when prospecting. Democratic state Sen. Mimi Stewart has been trying for years to codify climate goals set by Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham back in 2017. Stewart tells correspondent Gwyneth Doland why this year's bill, the Clear Horizons Act, might finally make its way to the governor's desk.Among the changes in this year's Clear Horizons bill is a requirement for the Environment Department to consult with potentially effected tribal governments before enacting new policies. Ahtza Dawn Chavez, executive director of NM Native Vote, spoke with Gwyneth about that addition, how it protects tribal sovereignty while still moving the state forward toward reducing emissions.Capital and Main reporter Jerry Redfern returns to the studio to talk with Executive Producer Jeff Proctor about a seismology equipment funding bill that has more to do with the oil and gas industry than meets the eye. Capital and Main reporter Jerry Redfern speaks with Missi Currier, president and CEO of the New Mexico Oil and Gas Association. Currier tells Jerry which bills she's keeping an eye on this year. Also, following years of ill-fated bills that sought tougher regulations on her industry, Jerry asks why during last year's session she said the oil and gas industry was "out of favor" in New Mexico.Podcast Host: Lou DiVizioCorrespondent: Jerry Redfern, Capital & MainGuest: Missi Currier, President & CEO, NM Oil & Gas Association
Oil and gas stocks have largely been ignored by Wall Street for years now as the prices of oil and natural gas have largely remained weak. But the world still runs on fossil fuels. And global demand keeps rising each year. And in this industry, the cure for low prices tends to be low prices. So, when will this sector, famous for its boom and bust cyclical nature, rotate out of bust and back into boom? Are today's low stock prices presenting a good opportunity to start dollar cost averaging into a sector that is poised for substantial future gains, while paying attractive income in the meantime? For answers, we're fortunate to be joined by Rick Rule, one of the world's greatest living natural resource investors, and a heck of a gentleman, to boot.WORRIED ABOUT THE MARKET? It has been a busy start of the year for commodities markets. In oil, market attention has shifted from Venezuela to Iran and the risk of more than 3 mbd of supply disruptions. Meanwhile, European TTF gas prices are up by about 25% year-to-date already as colder weather has swept through Europe. Not to be outdone, metals markets remain extremely volatile too with this week's Section 232 conclusion on critical minerals stopping short of any immediate tariffs, raising risk of a correction after silver's recent scorching rally. California is about to lose 22% of its gasoline production when Valero Benicia shuts down—on top of the 20% already gone from Marathon and ConocoPhillips closures. Let that sink in. We sat down with Mike Araiza, former Valero controller and petroleum expert, who breaks down exactly why California's refinery death spiral is creating a national security crisis. We're talking 40%+ of fuel coming from overseas (hello, Singapore, India, and countries buying Russian crude), maxed-out ports, military bases at risk, and gas prices heading to $8-12 per gallon by summer 2026. Meanwhile, Newsom's "solution"? Begging someone to buy refineries after 25 years of regulatory warfare, and throwing out 2,000 oil wells that'll have zero impact. The math doesn't math, folks. When you constrict supply while demand stays constant at 37-38 million gallons per day, what happens next? Arizona and Nevada get 50-88% of their fuel from California. The entire West Coast is one shipping disruption away from absolute chaos. Are we really going to virtue signal our way into fuel shortages and $10 gas while importing from countries with zero emission standards? This isn't speculation—it's basic economics meeting California's green agenda head-on. What's your breaking point?Drop a comment and let us know if you think this summer is going to be the wake-up call California desperately needs. Motors are the quiet workhorses of industry. They drive pumps, fans, compressors, and heaters, and they consume more than sixty percent of the power in most industrial operations. When operators need to control motor speed, they historically relied on mechanical adjustments or trial-and-error testing to keep processes stable and safe. As motors get larger and drive trains more complex, traditional testing approaches no longer work. Bringing every component together for a full string test adds months of delay and millions of dollars in logistics. The industry is conservative and reference driven, which makes it hard for operators to trust new configurations without seeing them proven first. This is where simulations shine. In this episode, I speak with Anand Jha, Vice President of Global Sales for ABB System Drive – Process Industries, about simulation twins that let operators model the entire system before it's built. These "virtual plants" replicate the grid, the drives, the motors, and the compressor. With software-in-loop and hardware-in-loop tools, operators can validate performance, tune configurations, and eliminate expensive string tests. The result is faster execution, lower cost, deeper system insight, better training, and continuous improvement across the plant lifecycle.

In today's deep-dive episode of Holyrood Sources, we break down one of the most contentious and politically charged budgets in years — Rachel Reeves' first full Labour Budget. On today's episode, Dr. Mark Costes is joined once again by Troy Eckard, CEO of Eckard Enterprises, for a deep dive into how dentists can strategically manage the proceeds from selling their dental practices. With over $1.1 billion in assets under management and nearly four decades of experience in domestic oil and gas, Troy brings unmatched expertise in alternative asset investing. This episode focuses on what to do when a large liquidity event—like a DSO buyout—leaves you with millions to allocate and big tax consequences to consider. Mark and Troy break down a hypothetical case study, walking through how to protect, grow, and optimize that capital with working interests, mineral rights, and class-A real estate. They also explore the dangers of common investment traps, like ATMs and conservation easements, and why tax strategy should start with worst-case scenarios. Whether you're looking to offset W-2 income, replace previous EBITDA, or simply avoid bad deals, this episode is packed with practical, no-nonsense advice for high-net-worth dental professionals. Kerry Lutz and Michael discussed the recent volatility in oil markets, where a sharp drop in crude oil from $65.77 to $55.96 per barrel has given way to a bullish turnaround. Michael explained how technical analysis often provides earlier signals than fundamentals and highlighted the impact of heating oil and unleaded gasoline on crude prices. He pointed to bullish reversals in RBOB gasoline and Brent crude after breaking above $61.50, while also noting a shift in natural gas from a bearish trend to a bullish correction with a target of $365.80. The conversation expanded to include a bearish setup in the S&P 500 amid a possible bullish pullback and how AI-driven energy demand could boost natural gas markets. Michael wrapped up by emphasizing the value of watching market formations and gaps, offering his analytical expertise for deeper insights. California is losing oil and gas firms — refineries are closing, and companies are relocating due to strict regulations and high costs. To counter this, Gov. Gavin Newsom has signed a law to fast-track 2,000 new wells per year in Kern County for the next decade.Supporters say this will stabilize the state's petroleum supply and help prevent more price spikes at the pump. Critics warn it could clash with California's climate goals and face major legal challenges.
California lawmakers struck a sweeping last-minute climate and energy deal with Gov. Gavin Newsom — extending the state's cap-and-trade program to 2045, reauthorizing an $18 billion wildfire liability fund, and paving the way for a regional clean energy market. But the package also includes controversial concessions to oil and gas, including new drilling permits and a revived pipeline, sparking backlash from environmental justice advocates who decried the closed-door negotiations.

State Environment Secretary James Kenney made a rare appearance at last month's meeting of the Water Quality Control Commission. Kenney advocated for the board to adopt a proposal that would expand the state's use of “produced water” — oil and gas wastewater that's loaded with questionable chemicals. Previous pushes to pass a similar proposal have died in the Legislature, as well as with the water commission. This latest proposal, however, has moved forward, and the board will consider it in November. Jerry Redfern, an oil and gas reporter with Capital and Main, recently stopped by our studio to ask Kenney about his department's sudden embrace of expanded uses for wastewater.Host: Lou DiVizioCorrespondent: Jerry RedfernGuest: James Kenney, Secretary, New Mexico Environment Department
