Many Christians talk earnestly about ‘the Christian roots of America,' but never say what they were. Equally the MAGA movement aims to ‘make America great again,' but never stops to say what made America great in first place.Dr. Os Guinness, foreign admirer of the US, will join us for a continuation of his Friday Forum from June 13, 2025 “2026: Recovering What Made America Great in the First Place,” and further dive into what it was that gave the American republic a freedom like no other – which needs to be recovered today.Support the show

Send a textIf you read the book of Galatians, about the time you get to the middle of it, you may think, considering what Paul has just said, that it is a very logical question. Paul begins to talk about the law, but he does so in a way that almost puts it down. And after you hear that, you can't help but wonder, well, then why did God give the law? He continues his seeming tirade against the law. It cannot justify. You cannot receive the Holy Spirit by it, nor can you be matured in your faith by it. But it gets worse, remember yesterday in Chapter 3, verse 10. For as many as are of the works of the law are under the curse of the law. For it is written, cursed is everyone who does not continue in all things which are written in the book of the law to do them”. Not only can the law not perform, if you're under the law system, but you are actually under a curse. And he goes on to say, in verse 13, that only Christ can redeem you from this curse of the law. Now, you can't read this without asking, well, then why did God give the law? That is a very logical and natural question. proceeding out of all that he has had to say up until this point. Let's see what he has to say…..Support the showFollow and support me on Patreon. Society is collapsing all around us and 4 out of 5 dentists say it's because people don't have "Third Places" anymore. Everyone has home, the "First Place." Everyone has work, the "Second Place." But so few of us have the mythic "Third Place" that allows us to hang out, unwind and exist without spending an exorbitant amount of energy. Well, in hopes of saving society, we're turning to video games to find our next leisure space. Andrew has biplanes. Matt has buckets. Todd has battle games. Florida basketball put on a clinic of how to embarrass an overmatched (supposedly “equal”) opponent this week, and the In All Kinds of Weather Forecast team is back to break it all down.Neil Shulman and Adrian Perez discuss Florida's belting of Texas A&M, a game that was over almost as soon as it began. The Gators overwhelmed the Aggies, 86-67, thus taking over first place in the SEC. And at the end of the game, the #Gators made sure to let the world know about it.
Alicia Menendez is in for Nicolle Wallace. Alicia covers the presence of DNI Director Tulsi Gabbard at the Elections Office in Fulton County, GA, where the Trump administration seized numerous ballots from the 2020 election. Even though it has been disproven that the 2020 election was ‘stolen,' Fulton County continues to be accused of ‘suspected voter fraud' by Donald Trump.Later, Alicia covers the exasperated admission from a federal prosecutor, who told a judge in court that trying to get ICE and the Justice Dept. to comply with court orders is like “pulling teeth.”For more, follow us on Instagram @deadlinewhTo listen to this show and other MS NOW podcasts without ads, sign up for MS NOW Premium on Apple Podcasts. In this short devotional-style episode, I reflect on how good, meaningful responsibilities can quietly compete for our attention — and how God gently calls us back when our priorities drift. Drawing from Exodus 20:3, this episode explores what it means to put God first in full seasons of life: post-holiday busyness, work and ministry commitments, family rhythms, early-year goals, and the subtle habits that pull us away from presence and rest. Through a personal story and Scripture-centered reflection, I am inviting you to pause, examine what has taken first place, and consider how obedience, wisdom, and faith shape everyday choices — even the small ones. This episode is part of a growing series of shorter devotional reflections designed to create space for Scripture, prayer, and real-life application in the middle of ordinary days. Praying this meets you where you need.

Every investor eventually encounters a deal that doesn't go as planned. In this episode, we break down “The Anatomy of an Unfortunate Investment” and explore why most bad outcomes aren't caused by bad assets, but by poor preparation, misaligned capital, and the wrong partners. We discuss why a great deal only works when it's matched with the right investor, the right risk profile, and the right structure. From understanding deal control and capitalization to assessing market dynamics and regulatory risk, we walk through the questions sophisticated capital actually asks.We also dive deep into partnerships—how incentives shift, why complementary skill sets matter, and how integrity and grit are revealed under pressure. Along the way, we share hard-earned lessons about mentorship, learning through experience, and why ego often gets in the way of better decisions. The takeaway is simple: fortunate investments start with clarity, humility, and the courage to slow down before saying yes.We talk about:[00:00] What Makes an Investment “Unfortunate” in the First Place?[01:57] Is a Great Deal Really Enough to Attract Capital?[04:23] Who Is a Deal Actually Great For?[06:46] How Do Sophisticated Investors Really Think About Risk?[9:50] Is Experience More Valuable Than Immediate Profit?[18:54] What Do Investors Actually Need to Say Yes to a Deal?[26:13] How Do Funds Decide Which Deals Make the Cut?[30:20] Where Should New Investors Go to Find Capital?[34:0] How Do Bad Partnerships Turn Good Deals Into Disasters?[42:53]How Do You Stay on the Fortunate Side of Investing?Resources:Learn more at The Color of MoneyBecome a real estate agent HEREConnect with Our HostsEmerick Peace:Instagram: @theemerickpeaceFacebook: facebook.com/emerickpeaceDaniel Dixon:Instagram: @dixonsolditFacebook: facebook.com/realdanieldixonLinkedIn: linkedin.com/in/dixonsolditYouTube: @dixongroupcompaniesJulia Lashay:Instagram: @iamjulialashayFacebook: facebook.com/growwithjuliaLinkedIn: linkedin.com/in/julialashay/YouTube: @JuliaLashayBo MenkitiInstagram: @bomenkitiFacebook: facebook.com/obiora.menkitiLinkedIn: linkedin.com/in/bomenkiti/Produced by NOVAThis podcast is for general informational purposes only. My guest today on the Online for Authors podcast is SM Stevens, author of the book Beautiful and Terrible Things. S.M. Stevens began writing fiction during back-to-back health crises: a shattered pelvis and ovarian cancer. She writes contemporary novels designed to make readers laugh, cry, and think. Her most recent novel, Beautiful and Terrible Things, has won seven awards including Indies Today's Best Literary Book of 2024, and an Honorable Mention in the Social Issues category of the 2024 Readers' Favorite International Book Award Contest. Her novella The Wallace House of Pain won the 2023 American Fiction Award for Best Novelette, and First Place in the Short Fiction category of the Chanticleer International Book Awards. A lifelong New Englander other than stints in England and Italy, she lives in Washington, N.H. In my book review, I stated Beautiful and Terrible Things is a contemporary fiction by SM Stevens. We start by meeting Charley, a 29-year-old who believes she is cursed to lose everyone she loves. To combat this, she lives a very rigid and lonely life - until she meets Xander. He invites her to meet his band of diverse race, gender, and sexually oriented friends Terrance, Sunny, Jessica, and Buwan. Charley is a social misfit, but from the beginning, I was cheering her on. Her rigid schedule and self-harm made me want to wrap my arms around her and help her see it was going to be okay - when I wasn't stamping my feet because she was being ridiculous! Of course, I felt the same way about each of the friends. At times, they seemed to have their heads on straight - at others? Not so much. And isn't that just like me, you, and everyone we know? SM doesn't hold back. She brings in social components of our time including race and sexual orientation, but also mental health issues and green initiatives. With characters all along each of these spectrums, we are given the opportunity to see these topics from all sides - from those who live them to those who wonder if they really exist. We also get a glimpse into what we might do when we see something that isn't to our liking - and learn that there isn't just one way that is the right way. This is a wonderful story about friends and what that can look like despite different life experiences. I really enjoyed this book. Happy New Year's everyone!New Year is the time of year when we build unrealistic expectations about what the huge celebration we should be part of, and what big changes we are going to make in the form of our resolutions. It is a lot to live up to, and can create a lot of pressure. All of which is why I don't like New Year's. To be honest, I feel like our run of holidays go steadily downhill starting with Labor Day and ending with New Year's Day in terms of the pressure that they create. We can get fixated on the types of experiences we should be having, and measuring what happens to often unrealistic expectations. The good news is that the only way to go is up! However your holidays went, I hope things are looking up for you.Experiencing a lot of pressure, going down, and going back up are all great themes for this week's guest on Experience by Design. I first learned of Henry Rausch when I found his book “Submerged: Life on a Fast Attack Submarine in the Last Days of the Cold War.” For long-time listeners, you will be familiar with my fascination with US naval history as well as the working environments of submarines. His book is a great first-person account of being deployed on a submarine, including the “ups and downs” associated with submarine life. “Submerged” is currently the #1 Best Seller on Amazon in the Biographies of the Military Navy, as well as a winner of other book awards, including First Place in Published Nonfiction at WriterCon 2025. Hank's second book is “How to Hotwire an Airplane: A Novel of Regret and Redemption,” and weaves together his father's experience being a medic in the Vietnam War along with his own experiences being a pilot. The book places this in the context of US border policy its impact on those who cross the border seeking a better life. Taken together, Hank's work explores personal transformation under stressful and sometimes dire circumstances. We discuss his experiences in the US Navy, and what he learned about leadership as a naval officer. He describes the months submerged while on patrol, along with the good times of being back in port. He talks about his subsequent work as an IT consultant working in satellite operation centers, and how lessons from his submarine tours informed his management style in civilian life. Finally we talk about the lessons that learning to fly has on life. As Hank describes, when you are teaching someone to fly, you have to let them fail up to the point that they might die. He emphasizes the need to enforce high standards, and how performance and recognition will predict how much satisfaction is felt in their work.
