Jeffrey Donaldson took the stand in Newry Crown Court on Thursday at his trial on charges of historical child sex abuse. It was the 13th day of the trial, and he was questioned by the defence barrister about the specific allegations made by the two complainants. The former DUP leader told the jury that he does not accept any allegations that he sexually abused two women while they were children. He did admit infidelity; that he had had an affair with a woman in London nearly 20 years ago. That was in the morning. Then in the afternoon the prosecution began its cross-examination, and that will continue on Friday and perhaps into next week.So what did he say when the 18 charges were put to him? And what next for this trial?Irish Times Northern eEditor Freya McClements was in court for Donaldson's testimony.Presented by Bernice Harrison. North and South by Elizabeth Gaskell chapter 21 "The Dark Night", narrated by Isaac BirchallSubscribe on YT or Join the Book Club on Patreon and support me as an independent creator :Dhttps://ko-fi.com/theessentialreadshttps://www.youtube.com/channel/UCfOFfvo05ElM96CmfsGsu3g/joinSummary:Margaret and her father walk home from the Thornton residence, feeling very happy. They talk together a little about the strike and Mr. Hale suggests that Thornton is anxious about the situation. When they get home, all joy they were feeling is ripped away from them by a look of horror on Dixon's face. They enter and find Dr. Donaldson taking care of Mrs. Hale. She has had a fit and is very, very unwell, and has been administered a sedative. Mr. Hale is finally informed of the state of his wife's health and is distraught by the terrifying news. He initially upset with Margaret for keeping it from him, but the Doctor tells him that it is he that is to blame, and not Margaret. The doctor tells Mr Hale to go to bed and leave the family alone. Everyone refuses to go to bed, so Dixon, Margaret, and her father watch over Mrs. Hale. Dixon eventually nods off, but Margaret watches carefully over her mother and responds to her father's questions. After her father goes to sleep too, Margaret reflects on Harley Street and Helstone, two places that she wishes she could go back to, to get away from the tragedies of the North. In the morning, it seems like the previous night was all but a dream. Mrs. Hale doesn't know how ill she was and is shocked to see Dr. Donaldson so early. After a few days, she gets permission to return to the drawing room, but that night, she becomes feverish again. Dr. Donaldson says that it is a reaction to the medicine that he has used and recommends that they try to find a waterbed for Mrs. Hale, stating that Mrs. Thornton has one she could maybe lend and asks Margaret if she could make the trip to Marlborough street to ask for it. In the afternoon, Margaret starts walking to the Thornton's, her head full of thoughts about her mother's health. She doesn't notice anything different about the streets, but around her, many people are heaving, and talking, and listening, while she moves through the streets. When she gets to Marlborough street however, she starts to feel the oppressive atmosphere, and as she gets to the Thornton's, the crowd starts to make its way towards the Factory. She is cautiously let in by the porter and is rushed into the house.SEO stuff I don't want to do. Elizabeth Gaskell's classic, "North and South" sees Margaret Hale's live uprooted as her family moves to the north of England. Initially disgusted by the ugliness of the industrial town of Milton, Margaret develops a strong sense of social justice after seeing the poverty and suffering of local mill workers.
Greg Donaldson, senior vertical market manager, market intelligence, LexisNexis Risk Solutions, discusses evolving auto insurance shopping trends, consumer behavior, affordability pressures and shifting retention dynamics.

"I don't hate THESE rhymes!" It's a return to New Zealand today with a local classic that has long eluded our particular podcast. Will the little black terrier with the catchy name capture the hearts and minds of these Yankee sisters, or will his charms elude them entirely? On this episode we discuss books that you have to practice reading aloud, why people give their dogs last names, and whether these specific doggy butts in this book were sanitized for American audiences. I love people. Especially the loveable ones. I think I love people well until I come across a difficult person. Maybe you also keep a private list of those who-best-not-be-named, and pray you never see again. Even worse: you work alongside of them. Or much, much worse: you're related to them. The funny thing is none of our secrets are secret to God. The other funny thing is He's got a plan for how we deal with our difficult people. What can we do? Pretend they don't bother us? Change locations? Speak the truth in love and the truth is: we don't like them and we would love it if they left us alone? It's not convenient to move to Australia to join Alexander on his no-good-very-bad day caused by a no-good, not-so-pleasant, irritating person. But it doesn't stop us wishing we could be on the next plane. Today we talk about WHAT MAKES A DIFFICULT PERSON DIFFICULT? DEGREES OF DIFFICULTY—DO THEY MATTER? SIMPLE PRACTICES TO HELP US WITH OUR DIFFICULT PEOPLE Keeping my mouth shut is usually a good idea. Some thoughts: You've heard the expression, “Hurt people hurt people.” I forget that fact when I'm the object of that hurt. When difficult people lash out, I want to listen with my heart, not just my ears, and think: I wonder what's going on to make her act that way? Was there something in his past that's causing this behavior? Cultivating a grown-up relationship with your most beloved may include painstaking prayers for wisdom and love, timing and tone. Degrees of difficulty do matter. On the one hand, we need to exercise patience and kind words. On the other end of the spectrum, extreme behavior warrants firm and healthy boundaries. Ask for the help you need. Some conversations don't need to take place, especially when we begin with prayer. Forbearance is putting up with more than you are due (or that you THINK you are due!) The thing is we want everyone to forbear with us, but forget to forbear with everyone else. _____ Check out my new book HERE:
